WAFU is this sweet little cafe on the second level of East End Market. As a creature of habit, I always order their matcha cream-filled waffle and carry on about my day. The matcha cream-filled waffle is always made fresh in-house for you. It is served warm and is just happiness in a little handheld pastry. Now, upon my most recent return, I learned they have a few rotational items on their menu as well as soft-serve ice cream options. While I did not get to try any of their newer items, I made a mental note to indulge in their pistachio soft-serve ice cream on my next visit. It truly made me happy to see how much bigger their menu has grown - which is always a GREAT sign. Since the shop itself is more of a order and go set-up, seating is located directly outside of the shop. Service has always been good for me, and the wait times are never more than 10-15 minutes pending the size of your order and how busy they happen to be. The staff is ALWAYS, and I mean, ALWAYS, so sweet. I have never had a bad experience here, and I am always very satisfied with my order(s). Pricing is good as well. I'm love with their rotating flavors. Cherry Blossom will always hold a special place in my heart, but the Ube is pretty spectacular too. The only thing that would help me a ton is flavor release calendar, since I'm on the opposite side of town. We love the friendliness of the safe and how great they are at explaining their items. First time here came right as they opened. I've had this sweet bean in Korea in Japan and I still forgot to get it here so that'll be for next time. We did end up getting the custard and Nutella for sweet as well as the tamago for savory. The box was funny cause it said CNT at least funny to me. The cream was delicious and not overly sweet but still obviously sweet warm fresh. Everything you think you would need, the Nutella was the favorite because it's freaking Nutella and with the warm fish dough Made it even better. I personally am more of a same person so I got the tamago egg and truthfully the only thing was missing was hot sauce, but that's just personal preference for me. It was fresh hot fluffy. It was a perfect breakfast meal. I think the only drawback to a place like this is the wait time. It did take around 12 to 15 minutes which they did let me know ahead of time however that is the only drawback because delicious food I understand takes time and I'm for it so no deductions from me . There were only two orders ahead of us (one being a soft serve with toppings), but it still took about 15-20 minutes to get our shakes. With three employees working (one focused on making the fish-shaped taiyakis and the others handling orders), the pace felt a bit slower than expected. They offer sweet and savory options as well as taiyaki cones you can fill with custard or Nutella. My ONLY complaint is that I wish there was more variety in their ice cream flavors. I feel like every time I try to go it's always cereal milk, and while it's always a fan favorite I would love to have more options if they ever were able to expand, or maybe change it out more frequently. 5 Star update for another trip with another nephew that left a smile on their face, and a red bean paste filling (anko) that has become a fave. It's been a few years and I am still consistently impressed with the offerings here. As mentioned in my previous review, they have sweet and savory options, but the service seemed more efficient the most recent times I've gone and the time you wait is spent looking over the patio of East End Market (which ain't a bad way to spend a couple of minutes). Note: The flavors of the ice creams rotate daily, but my current fave order is the Anko Taiyaki (Taiyaki is a filled waffle-type cake in the shape of a fish). Anko is a Japanese sweet red bean paste freshly made from organic azuki beans. It's a traditional filling used in many Japanese sweets, and I can see why! They're new-ish, so I will say they definitely need more staff as the person taking the orders had to make the dishes in between each order and it led to a really long wait time (I think a second person was in training at the time). You place your order and then wait outside (covered, thankfully!) for your name to be called and your little treat to be handed to you from the window. I recommend swapping spots with someone in your group so you can roam around The Neighbors, just inside on the second floor, adjacent to Wafu. They have a ton of awesome locally-made gifts and also cocktails. I had the chance to try the soft-serve in the fish cone (with pocky) and it was soooo good! It's not huge, but that's great for those of us who don't need half an ice cream carton in a cone (y'all know the places I'm talking about). Quality over quantity always wins out! Plus- my niece did a little photo shoot with it, so I am officially her favorite (right?). I also got to try one of the savory taiyaki and it was SO good! The slight sweet flavor of the waffle, along with the savory egg filling was perfection. A great snack to help accommodate your less sweet-inclined friends. Overall, Love it! I wanted to wait before writing this review because I don't like to write them while I'm angry. The Taiyaki was just insulting... that's the best word I can think of for it. We got 2 custard, 1 red bean, and one Ube as well as the "Dubai Chocolate Parfait" (you don't just sprinkle a few kataifi on some Hershey's syrup and call it Dubai Chocolate btw???). The ice cream here is absolutely phenomenal! While it is more of an icey texture than cream, it definitely still hits the spot on a hot day or any day in this Florida heat. While the cone was delicious and held the icecream well, I'd have preferred the cone to have more of a taiyaki waffle texture because it was rather thin. They have 2 main options of taiyaki waffles here. The one with soft serve and the traditional style ones with sweet or savory filling in them. I was less than impressed with the soft serve options. They have a nice varieties of flavors but the waffle itself was stale and chewy texture. Almost as if the waffle was a couple of days since made. The traditional ones I've enjoyed quite a bit. Since these are made fresh, these were much better option for me. They have a decent 3 for $13 special. The custard, the anko, and the kurobuta sausage were my picks. The last one was so good! Would be willing to come back for it. We were given a 15-20 minute wait which was unreasonable since there weren't too many people in the line.
