Loyal readers know that I'm a sucker for Americanized Chinese food in small Midwestern towns. Golden Inn checks all the boxes and, like many other in the area, features Cantonese dishes that are rapidly going extinct in the US. Golden Inn is a large space with a near-constant stream of dine-in and take-out customers. The service is friendly and fast, and the prices are low for huge quantities of food. We got the vegetable roll ($3) which tasted okay, though the interior is mushy and wet. The curry tofu with vegetable ($9) is tasty and same goes for the vegetable chow fun ($9). No complaints there. The kung pao tofu ($9), however, was too salty and the carton was at least 60% celery (see my photos). I hate celery and it's not listed as an ingredient on the menu (the menu says the dish has green pepper and Chinese vegetables). Overall, Golden Inn is pretty good and I'd return if I happened to be in Superior again. read more

I ordered food for carry out. Fried rice, spring rolls, and wings. Place was very busy but the food was ready within about fifteen minutes and the lady at the register was friendly. I got back to the hotel and tried the spring rolls first. They were decent. Next were the wings, which were undercooked and kind of soggy. Not good. Lastly I opened up the ham fried rice. Also not good. Had a burnt flavor like maybe the wok was dirty. Anyway, four stars for the service and one star for the food. read more

I used to love this place but the last 2 times I've gone I've had horrible experiences. The last time my rice tasted burnt and it was almost black. Today I ordered chicken fried rice and beef with broccoli and when my food came it was beef with broccoli and sweet and sour chicken then when it came out again it was chicken fried rice and sweet and sour chicken it took 3 TIMES to finally get it right! Picked up food here after a late night wedding. 1 order is large enough to feed 2-3 people. Lots of reviews complained about the burnt flavor of the fried rice. That was actually my favorite part of the meal. It's a flavor you can't get without a wok over high heat. So good! Little bit to get served but we had a huge plate of amazing crab cream cheese wontons, followed by the Szechuan combo with Kong Pao Shrimp and fried rice. The egg roll and cream cheese wontons that came with were hot and fresh and the entrees almost fell over the side of the plate. Hubby's General Tsao's chicken was fresh, hot and plentiful! We ordered delivery during a stop over through Superior. They delivered to our hotel. The service on the phone was good. I can't say much about the ambulance of the restaurant because of take out, but they included all of the utensils and supplies for our dinner. The food was tasty. The portions are pretty big. The egg roll that came with the dinner was also very good. They said delivery may take up to an hour, but it came in about 30 minutes. Waste of money! The food had very little flavor. I ordered General Tso's chicken and there was only chicken, no vegetables of any kind including the peppers that are part of the dish. The breading was so thick that you could barely tell there was chicken in it and it was chewy not crisp. The little bit of sauce was almost flavorless. I ordered medium heat but it wasn't even mild. It was awful! The rest of my order was meh as well. I will never go back and was sorry I spent so much on three dishes and egg rolls. We have tons of leftovers that I don't want to eat. read more

I try to come here every year while fishing Lake Superior. I'm from Minneapolis area. I got a lunch special for $11. Plenty for leftovers. The veggies were bright and tasty as well as the protein of shrimp, beef, chicken, and pork were great. The fried rice is the same as I remember. It my favorite but good enough. I brought my family to the Golden Inn Chinese Restaurant and we were all very pleased. On the lunch menu, I had the chicken fried rice, egg foo young, egg roll and hot tea FOR LESS THAN $7! The waitress even came by and asked me if I would like some more gravy. The food was hot, delicious with minimal wait and the staff were very friendly. How have I not known about this place before? I was chatting with someone the other day about chinese food and what a coincidence, she turned out to be Jade, the hostess. She recommended the place and I'm glad she did. Great food and fantastic price. My mother ordered rice and egg foo young as well and they even prepared it all vegetarian for her, for no extra cost. I am looking forward to trying the dinner menu and I will certainly update with photos once I do. We have been going here for years. We went today for lunch and it was very quiet. The food portion was so much smaller and served on smaller plates. The slices of chicken were very tiny. They now charge extra for tea at lunch. We took my Dad and he was very disappointed. The prices have increased again also. read more

I ordered dinner for my family tonight, 3 of the 4 meals I ordered were were medium spice or hotter, with mine being extra spicy. The 3 of them that should have been spicy(ish) were not. In fact, they were very mild at best. Needless to say, we're all pretty disappointed in our meal, except my 3 and 4 year old. I messeged golden inn on Facebook and am even more disappointed in their response to that. This place doesn't even care about customer satisfaction. They made no effort to make it right and correct my order. I'd have gladly traded them meals, because when I order food, I expect it to be what I paid for. We've had good meals here in the past but our most recent meal was not good at all. The servings were enormous and the prices reasonable, but I'd go for about half the portion size and quadruple the flavor. I had orange chicken - barely any sauce, it was bland, and no veg included in it at all. The highlight was the shrimp fried rice and only because there were lots of tasty, well-cooked shrimp. My companion had the sweet and sour which when he's had it there in the past came with onions, tomatoes, and bell pepper. This time it was just sauce and chicken nuggets. For both dishes also the chicken is nice quality, well fried but just lacked flavor. read more

If you want Chinese good in Superior this is the place to go! We usually order the Chicken Almond ding, or Chicken Lo Mein and both are very good with huge portions. Others we have had and loved are the Lemon Chicken and Mo Goo Guy Pan. Prices are very reasonable and you will have enough for lunch the next day. read more

Finally check this place out and what was I waiting for? Hands down the best Chinese food in the twin ports. Fried Rice was absolutely delicious. Best rice I think I have tasted. My WWII Book Club had our monthly meeting June 14th at the Golden Inn Restaurant and the members were appalled at the treatment the manager gave our book club President. Our book club President made reservations for 15 people, as that is how many people are in the book club. For some reason the manager thought there would be 25. When we got there the manager proceeded to publicly humiliate and disparage our book club President. She was very unprofessional, and her attitude reflected on the quality of food we got. The Chinese food was cold, the fried rice had, and the sauces were salty. The American food which were burgers and club sandwiches were like "hockey pucks" and loaded with Mayonnaise. Of which one of our members is allergic and told them no Mayo! We will not be back as a book club or as patrons! read more

I would give 0 stars if this were an option. I am guessing they are cooking for nursing home guests now because everything was bland and soggy. I will never spend a dime in that place ever again after the rudeness we encountered today. We let them know they messed up an order and they told us we didnt know what we were talking about and refused to apologize or make it right. The owners need to get better cooks that understand how seasonings work and teach the rest of the staff simple manners. read more

I love this place! The restaurant is bright and cheerful, the staff is friendly and very helpful, and the food is delicious. I've had the food here many times, both in-house and to go. I usually order the Happy Season meal as I absolutely love Szechuan but anything I've tried has been very good. One of my favorite things about the Golden Inn is that the vegetables are cooked to a nice and crunchy texture, not soggy and overcooked as they are at some restaurants. Ordered Szechuan Chicken, Chicken sub gum & 2 orders of shrimp fried rice. The shrimp in the fried rice was so small and very few in the fried rice. Orders were never like that, shrimp were big and a lot. Both the subgum & the Szechuan chicken were dry, not a lot of sauce. I don't know what they've done lately, new cooks that are cooks wanna be? Food was great my only complaint in mine was it had one piece of shrimp. I got the happy seasons it's pork, chicken and shrimp veggies and beef fried rice. It was very good. With the meal you also got a great egg role and chicken wings or cream cheese wontons, I got the wontons they too where good. I was mildly impressed with the broccoli chicken dish. It contained a whole broccoli. It was done in a white sauce clear and it tasted very good. The bowl of rice that came with it was over cooked. I also ordered a pork fried rice. It was OK. I am waiting to see how the leftovers taste.
