I will come back to this wonderful place anytime I am in downtown Norfolk. I love their food, I've never had a bad dish. The sesame pancakes are my absolute favorite to order, I always get an extra cup of sauce because it's so tasty. The fried dumplings are perfectly done and not too oily. The lumpia is also delicious and again while deep fried is not super oily. My mother favors their green beans which are crisp and always super fresh. I generally swap between the beef and broccoli and the chicken with Chinese veggies. Both pack so much flavor and always have perfectly cooked veggies that still have a bit of bite to them. And of course finish off your meal with the sugar coated fried donuts and a fortune cookie. You won't be disappointed, come check out one of the places Norfolk's finest even stop off to eat. I stopped in at the local Golden Fortune Chinese Restaurant and ordered the General Tso's Chicken dinner combo with fried rice and an egg role. Let me start off with the portion size was a little small. My General Tso's sauce was runny and did not give me that General Tso's flavor I came looking for. The sauce had a very strange taste and seemed like the used a lot of hot sauce. The fried rice was alright and it is not your standard Chinese restaurant fried rice. I have to say... hands down best food! Cleanest kitchen in Norfolk and the food is consistently delicious!! Today cold as a glacier, I stopped in for a simple egg drop soup and 2 egg rolls. Less than 5 minutes my fresh HOT soup and FRESH EGG-ROLLS WERE READY, package nicely to go with all condiments . Service was great! Can I say the food gets 5 stars all under 7.00 too! Too many places use "chunked and formed" chicken of some type in their dishes but Golden Fortune definitely does not in the Orange Chicken. Not your typical Chinese but I enjoyed it. It's a healthier version I think. I got the sesame chicken and it wasn't covered and soaked in the sauce. It was very light and not heavy. The rice is more of just a white rice that's fried a little. After mixing it with the chicken it was enjoyable. By far some of the best carry out in Norfolk, and as far as Hampton Roads in my opinion. Golden Fortune prides themselves on offering the healthiest Chinese food in the area, and I definitely agree. I've been coming here for years, especially during my college years. The food is always cooked hot, and fresh to order. I like how the food is never overly greasy, as can definitely be the case at some Chinese food establishments. The inside is a very meek dining room, that is constantly well-maintained. The owners have an open view to the kitchen, which any customer can directly see how clean it is always kept as well. Friendly, fast service will always meet you here. I'm a huge fan of their general tso's chicken. Definitely some of my favorite. I get it literally every time I come. I was in the area for a doctor's appointment at EVMS and Golden Fortune was right around the corner, so my mom and I decided to stop by for lunch. We were unsure of how large the lunch portions would be, so we each decided to order our own entrée and split an appetizer (we ended up having leftovers). I got the small orange beef and my mom got the chicken fried pan noodles, and we split an order of the steamed pork dumplings. We were there during the lunch rush, but managed to get a table and our food came quickly. For the price, we were very surprised by how large the portions were and by how fresh and delicious the ingredients were. This is not the greasy type of Chinese food that leaves you feeling gross afterwards, which was definitely a plus. They also have a large menu with a nice selection for those who may have dietary restrictions. Overall, Golden Fortune is a great lunch spot for the price. So the prices felt right but the food is not good at all. I felt like I was fed rat for $10. This is walking distance from my place of employment but I don't plan to ever return. The chicken didn't look like chicken at all. Buyer beware! The lumpia did not meet expectations at all and the egg rolls weren't an option on the pork. Great place for take out. Love the cleanliness of the restaurant, appears to be COVID-19 compliant. Excellent big screen TV above the counter, adequate counter space to maintain social distancing. May not be for everyone but it works for this customer. They pack plates, heavy duty plastic forks, napkins, pks of soy sauce. Two thumbs up for that. I haven't seen that at other places. Don't take my word for it in case your experience differs than mine own. Love the food, the friendly staff and the whole package deal. I will be coming back for more. After reading the reviews, I decided to try this place. I got the chicken with broccoli, shrimp with broccoli, shrimp lo mein, friend wings, & egg rolls. Everything was discussing. The entrees were made with water and were watery and bland instead of gravy. Everything with the shrimp tasted like an artificial type of fish. I wouldn't recommend anyone to eat here. The egg rolls were even disgusting. What a waste of 40 dollars. Also, they use Erica's white rice instead of the usual sticky rice. This place seems like they bargain shop and overcharge. read more

Shrimp egg foo young took me back to NY Chinese. The sweet and stout chicken was a little strange as the pieces were tiny. I did not like the cabbage and pork way too vinegary. Just when I got through bragging that they make their own sweet and sour pork i got some recently that was overcooked, a bit greasy and too many little "dough balls" with no pork inside....and too many small pieces.... probably because a man was cooking this time (ha ha). The Mongolian Beef=- also disappointing. Just had an off flavor from too many of those canned (and TASTED canned) waterchestnut (or some other water vegetable) "noodles" (they are not noodles but look like noodles.) There was a lot of them and did not add to the dish flavor. Not much flavor in this dish. How about more green onion? pea pods and onion and LESS of the canned water chestnut strips (noodles). FINALLY CHINESE FOOD I CAN EAT! I have an intolerance to Chinese food for whatever reason. I was so tired of only ordering steamed veggies with no sauce. I recently moved to Ghent and now I can order from a Chinese restaurant that doesn't bother my stomach. I ordered the vegetable pancit, white rice, lumpia and chicken wings. I'll try to keep this one short. Golden Fortune is a very good Chinese takeout place located near the Norfolk Arts District. The food here is good quality and unique from other Chinese takeout places in the area. They have a good amount of menu items that I haven't seen anywhere else such as their Hong Kong style soups and chicken turnovers. The biggest drawback I've had here is their $10 minimum for credit card purchases. I don't always exceed $10 when I get Chinese, so this has been a problem for me on some occasions. That said, I don't think they enforce it quite as strictly as they used to. All in all this is a good place to go for Chinese takeout if you're looking for something a little different than your average Chinese restaurant. read more

The place was quiet for a Friday night but I only came for their lumpia rolls on this day. This was my first time visiting as I've usually ate from here when my mom has bought it. I say they have some the best lumpia I've tasted and although they are more costly than some of other places in area, they are worth it and their big. Best quality Chinese takeout that I have had today after living in Ghent for 20 years. the sweet and sour pork is made from handmade cut pork on the premises and not those little generic commercially made perfect little tiny squares of pork that normally come with sweet and sour pork.The pork and sweet and sour pork you can actually taste the real pork. I would recommend that you open up your sweet and sour pork and let it breathe as soon as you pick it up though because the breading can get a little soggy with all that steam trapped in the package so open it up or even empty it out as soon as you get it to help keep the dough crisp.
