Motel Room in Fresno, CA

Myself and 2 adults and 2 babies spent two nights here in the summer of 2020. The room had two king sized beds for us, the air conditioner kept us cool and tv service was nice. However, I did find a couple of small cockroaches in the room, the soda machine there worked but the sodas from the machine tasted sort of flat. Outdated maybe? The last thing I have to say is in regards to the customer service. The lady that worked there was nice and very pleasant. But the man was another story. I needed to go to the office for something and I rang the bell for a long time. No one came to the window so I began to walk away. Then I heard a loud knocking from the window and it was the man gesturing for me to come back to the window, so I did. If I remember correctly I simply needed a roll of toilet paper for the room. That man was extremely rude and glared at me as if he wanted to choke me. Maybe he was having a bad day. But I don't care if he was. I'm the one that paid for two nights at the place. It was also his job to be nice to the customers, not just the lady but his as well. So for that reason, I'm only going to give the place a 3 star rating.

I found this place while looking for lodging during my trip to Lava Beds National Monument. There are very few options in this rural area. I was a little hesitant to go with a mom-and-pop place in such a small town (I secretly thought of those movies where out-of-towners get ax murdered at small town motel . . . ), but I'm glad I chose Golden Eagle Motel. I would definitely stay here again if I were in the area and I would recommend this place to a friend. Pros: The room was decently big. It felt neat and clean, despite its aged look. I'm a bit picky when it comes to lodging, but I felt very comfortable here. The bathroom was spotless. The toilet even had this paper seal on it saying it had been sanitized. Free high speed internet. I don't remember if they had wireless, but they do have ports in every room for ethernet connection. I only paid $64/night (including tax and fees) for two queen beds. Great deal, in my opinion. Given the small size of this establishment, I was surprised the room was as well-equipped as the chain hotels. The room came with a microwave, refrigerator, blow dryer, TV, table and two comfortable chairs. Cons: Continental breakfast was a little lacking. The individually packaged pastries did not look very appetizing nor did the instant oatmeal. The rooms do not - I repeat, do NOT - have air conditioning. It was very surprising since according to weather.com, Dorris gets pretty hot in the summers. Every room is equipped with a ceiling fan, which helped me out a bit. Located on the corner the main road that runs through town, we kept hearing trucks slow down at the corner and gun it down the street. An occasional train or two can also be heard on the railroad several blocks away. The noise wasn't bothersome for me but for those who are extra sensitive, it's something for you to consider.

Free chunks provided.

Pros: Within stones throw of freeway Free parking close to room Free incense scented cold cereal and artificial OJ for breakfast Cons: Within stones throw of freeway Free parking close to room Excessive incense at front counter/check in Door opens inward & difficult due to carpet Brown flakes crusted on blanket Filthy spatter and chunks in microwave Colder inside room than outside, 3+ hours to acheive 68F

We called ahead to let them know that we would be arriving late at night (please call them if you plan to check in after 8 pm) and the owner was nice enough to keep the motel room open for us. Our beds were very comfortable and the blankets were warm. The toilets are clean with hot water. There is wifi but we didn't have the password. There are a few picnic tables outside. The main lodge where the office is located has a dining area where you have access to a continental breakfast (toast, bagels, muffins, cereal, etc), and a community room which has a TV, pool table and the friendly family dogs. The whole set up is a family run business, which brings a sense of groundedness and kindness. Lava Beds is just a 15 min drive. Tule Lake wildlife refuge is just across the road. We booked this lodge because it was the only option but after having stayed here, I definitely recommend choosing them if you plan to spend a night or two in Tulelake.

Needless to say it will continue to be our place to stay for opening weekend for the years to come. Loyal and his wife were very friendly and there are all kinds of amenities the lodge has to offer including, but not limited to a large lounge room with pool table, large TV, couches, as well as ice machine, and breakfast and dinnner meals. All for only $90/night. Highly recommend to anyone passing through the area.

We arrived at just before 4 on a relatively warm Tuesday after battling the large trucks on I-5. Staff was competent and welcoming, and gave us detailed instructions on how to access our room. After situating ourselves, we took full advantage of the pool and subsequently, the hot tub. Feeling fully refreshed, we would have dinner in the separately reviewed on-site eatery, then go into town to enjoy our show. Sleep was effective, and we were refreshed for our next big drive. If the pool isn't sufficient for your needs, there is also tennis, and easy access to a pizza pub and coffee cart. Need a reason to return! Only regret is not taking any photos, which will be undone on that next visit.

We were put at the back of the property in a VERY tired room. I will attach pictures. The room looks like all of the furniture came overly used from a thrift store. The layout of the room doesn't make sense. The "kitchen" is very poor, no dishes, pots or pans, no dish soap. The bathroom is very poor, the shower didn't have much water pressure, it felt icky! The towels are thin and small. All of this and in the small print on a piece of paper in the room tells you they don't clean the room unless you stay for 3 days AND request they clean it. We made reservations for this hotel 1 1/2 months before we planned to stay there. We were going to go to plays at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. After we saw how poor the room was, we asked to move. There were not any other rooms available for the time we were there. We had stayed in another building at this hotel 4-5 years ago and it was nice. This is the reason we booked here again and we thought a "suite" would be great. It wasn't. We will never stay here again, so disappointing.

There is a train track nearby, but don't let that deter you from staying here! The hotel does an excellent job insulating the rooms from the sound, and I had no trouble getting a great night's sleep. The beds are super comfortable, too. What really impressed me, though, was the customer service. In my haste to catch my flight--I had to drive all the way back to Medford, Oregon--I accidentally left a couple of items behind. Christine and Ari went above and beyond to make sure my belongings were mailed back to me. I really appreciated the care and effort they put into helping me. This is a hotel that genuinely cares about its guests, and if I'm ever back in the Mount Shasta area, I will absolutely stay here again. It is a little pricier than some of the other hotels in the area, but it's worth it for the cleanliness, comfort, quiet rooms, and excellent service. The location is also really convenient. There's a large grocery store within walking distance, and the movie theater is right across the way. Highly recommended!
