What a great little place! Clean, quaint, really friendly and informative staff, great heater in room, easy check in/check out, comfortable bed, fridge/microwave, fast WiFi option, and more. Merrill is a very small town with limited restaurants/food options, but Mark shared options with candor, we took his advice, and enjoyed ourselves. He also gave great directions to enjoy Tule Lake bird watching and Lava Beds National Monument. This turned out to be the perfect resting point to enjoy a day driving through the Oregon Outback and then a day at Lava Beds exploring the lava tubes, with easy access to Klamath Falls museums. I loved this place. The price is very reasonable. I can't remember the last time I got a clean and cozy room for this price. It has everything I needed for my stay. The management has a clever little switch in the room that you can flip. It tells them when you check in and check out. That turned out to be very handy because I left an item in the room. The owner called me within several minutes of checkout, before I even left town. I was able to swing by and claim the item without the hassle of having it mailed to me. I will definitely stay there again when I'm in the area. read more

Stayed here as a halfway point during a road trip. What a great little find. Easy check-in, check-out, clean room, and a great staff. We most certainly will do it again. The town of Merrill is small. 820 people. Things closed down pretty early. Keep that in mind if you want to go out to grab dinner. The Polar Bear burger joint was pretty cool though. Wasn't sure what to expect as I'd made this reservation over the phone with little research as I am on my "Annual West Coast Motorcycle Migration" from Florida, and the location was convenient for my next planned stop. What a surprise as I rolled up and saw this quaint establishment. Definitely gives nod to the simpler years in our nation. The rooms are as one would expect for a roadside lodge. Nothing fancy yet very functional. Excellent bed (I like firm beds), with simple room heater to keep the Oregon cold out. Easy walking to drug store or convenience as well as ice cream shop! No need for fancy when one is putting miles on during a cross country trip. But I definitely would stay here again! read more

This is an adorable little place with a cute atmosphere and the kind of place you'd want to come back to you every summer on vacation. The owners are friendly and committed to giving you a memorable experience. I love places that are not cookie cutter and this fills the bill. We stayed here during the fair as we were setting up, as often happens in life - the best-laid plans fell to the wayside, we were hours behind schedule on our arrival date - they accommodated us with a smile and then on day 2 we unexpectedly needed to stay over, again they graciously helped us out of our jam. We've already booked for the teardown and look forward to being back next year! Hopefully, we can stay longer to see the lava beds and other local sites. My lady and I stayed at Wild Goose Lodge Motel back in August 2019. This place is great for staying near Lava Beds National Monument (love that place), although it's still a bit of a drive to get in, but it's probably as close as you could get without camping inside. The room was good. Clean. Nice little notes here and there. Charming feeling. The microwave worked and shower was at a good temp. The place was comfortable enough and had enough space. We didn't have maid service. One thing I didn't like is that some huge biker group came after we had checked in and some of those folks parked in front of our room, and left little space for us to park one day after coming back from the caves. That was really annoying. I wanted to tell the Lodge managers and went to the front desk and tried to get someone to talk to, but no one came. That was lame. I also didn't like that there was a poster on the side of the lodge against Governor Brown. I like her. I know southern OR is crimson and all, but not everyone who travels is. I think it's best for businesses to be politically neutral. read more

My second time staying here, and am still very impressed with this place. Folks this is a boutique hotel, not a giant Hilton, as I suspect Georgia A was expecting. I have traveled all over the world, staying in places that are magnificent to down right pathetic, but I love the vibe this lodge brings. I specifically went out of my way on a trip to Seattle to stay here a second time. It did not disappoint me. The room was so clean, and quite frankly the Pine-Sol smell told me the room had been cleaned thoroughly, so I knew it was good and, here is a concept, I appreciated it. The owners have spent a pantload of $$$$ upgrading each room and it shows(All new bathroom fixtures, and ductless heat/A/C, trust me on this it is quiet and very efficient, no more blasting noise of a local 70's A/C, next to your bed), yet they retain the feel of a really cool hotel from yesterday when life was much simpler. Again as a VP of Silicon Valley Technical Support and traveled all over the world, I love this lodge and the way it presents itself. Truly has been one of the best places I have ever stayed in. read more

We should have known when we pulled up. The front of the building has never been cleaned. It was dirty and cob webs everywhere. Went to the room and it was so small. the bedding looked like it was from the 60's. The room smelled strong of Pinesol. It was very small and was not inviting at all. We looked at it online and it looked different. We turned around and decided we could not stay there. We didn't get a refund at that point we wouldn't have stayed no matter what. read more

This is perhaps the best motel I've ever stayed at. I've never stayed at a motel that has so many perks (fire pit, picnic tables, gas grill, and a recreation room with a gym set, kitchen, sink, pool table and tv). The room was very nice and has a "cabin" feel to it. If you like glamping, this is definitely the place for you. The owner is very friendly and accommodating, as well as the house keeper. They were very welcoming and made us felt like we were at home. So much so that we even invited the owner to have s'mores with us. If I could give this place no stars, I would. This was the worst experience by far and a disgusting way to "represent" this town. This was my families first time in Merrill and it was for a wedding. My younger brother and I stayed as well as my grandparents. To start off, our mornings started quite earlier around there when they decided to start construction (with out disclosing this information) at 6 AM on our first night there followed by pouring concrete and not having a way out of our rooms and acted like it was a complete inconvenience to have us there as guest. When I complained about the noise, (as anyone would right?) the lady LAUGHED at me like this was a joke. This went on for two days. The second day we complained again, so the lady called and said it was best that we leave because they were going to close "due to construction" so we moved my grandparents that are in their 80's and my brother and I, only to find out that they continued to stay OPEN and lie to us about it. Completely rude and inconsiderate. Wounld NEVER recommend this place to anyone!! read more

So this is a nice, clean, and pleasant place to stay. I have been there twice, this time with my spouse. Room is comfortable, rather small, but does have a built in desk and good shower. No ice machine, so you need to go down a few blocks to the gas station. No hot water the morning we were leaving, I'm assuming that this was just a temporary problem. So, I would probably stay again. Not sure if my spouse would- she was uncomfortable with a political sign on the property, not just that doesn't support the particular individual, but rather it made her wonder if the owners took the Corona virus seriously and if they had adequately cleaned the rooms. I own a business and made a decision many years ago not to put such signs on my premises. All need to feel welcomed, not just members of a particular group or party. read more

I will never stop at this hotel again. It was 3:30 in the morning and I had been driving for several hours. I saw a lit open and vacancy sign, so I decided to stop. I entered the lobby and rang the bell for service. A few minutes later a woman came to the desk. I asked about a room,and she responded with a question. She asked if I had come from Burning Man. I said that I did, and she responded with, "I don't rent rooms to you people." I was super tired and just needed a place to get some rest. To be treated with such hatred and disrespect is something I will never forget. read more

Nice place close to the Lava beds. Cabin we've got (#15) had 1 queen + 2 twin beds arrangement. Plenty of space for family of 4. Not a luxurious place but really nice and cozy. Wireless internet was too weak as cabin was far away but wired internet did work - slow but useable. TVs are small CRTs but there is enough channels to keep kids occupied. Since it has a small kitchen with mini electric stove it would be good for longer stays too. As long as you remember to pluck your birds at a designated spot and not in your cabin. :) read more

If you are looking for a room for a duck hunter by the LK or Tule lake refuges this is the spot. This was an absolute gem in the middle of no where. The accommodations were priced very affordable for a couple of duck hunters that were trying to keep things on the cheap for 3 days. There were also cabins for a little more money that looked very nice as well. The property had a rec room with a giant HD TV for the game and also some cooking facilities. The game cleaning station was a great addition. Remember if your a CA hunter that your coming from Oregon and to leave a wing on because you will be checked at Dorris. We just left this incredible little lodge. The rooms were so clean and nice. Small, but perfect for two. The shower and bathroom was bigger than expected and the hot water was AMAZING. They have wifi and a communal kitchen and hang out space that was really nice to cook our own meals in since there aren't too many good food options around. (See my post for Polar diner though- cause that fast food was great). This place is very duck hunter friendly. Super nice staff and owners, always offering extras on things and making sure we were comfortable. We will definitely be returning! read more

This is a great place. The price is incredibly reasonable and you get a lot for your money. The room we stayed in was very clean and had all the amenities we care for: an air conditioner, two fans (one ceiling), free bottled water, good hot water, a small refrigerator, small microwave and all for $62 ( take advantage of the cash discount). This included our dog, who they don't charge for! (Never seen that before!). I left my iPad there and they called me before I left town. This place will be our place to stay whenever we are in the area! read more

I am a fan, I really like small locally owned motels. Wild Goose was great, saved me money and time compared to Klamath falls since I was on the way over the mountain pass to Cedarville the next day. The owner (and dog) are lovely. It is a scenic area with a nice walk on a dead end street with mountain views. The room had wifi, coffee maker, nice fridge, clean wooden floors and nice bedding. I am allergic to mold and dust so I really appreciated the cleanlliness. Merrill has some good local cafes for meals as well. It is not for you Best Western addicts but it was a really great place for me. read more

This is a small motel that is well organized and clean rooms. Beds are comfy and the owner operator is very sweet and accomodating. Has a large building with a full kitchen that everyone can use. It has full couches and big screen tv. It has a wildlife/hunting theme that goes well with the wildlife preserve only minutes away. I cant really say enough about this place for such a small town like Merrill. I stayed here numerous times and they do everything they can to please. They don't have wifi but old fashioned ethernet for internet. Stay here on your way to Reno and you won't be dissapointed! read more

We stayed in Cabin #1 and loved it! The room was super clean and decorated so perfectly, all trimmed out in rustic wood and outdoorsy decor. We had a refrigerator, microwave and coffee pot in the room. The owner was very friendly and helpful. He even offered us a blanket for our dog, who was injured at the time. We will definitely be back, we have friends and family in Tulelake and this Lodge is the best one around the area! read more

The owners of this place take customer service and care to a whole new level. We parked there for three weeks and there was no concern or request that hasn't been addressed. We extremely enjoyed staying there and getting to know this cute tiny town, local people and the owners. Note: this is not an RV park per se, but a motel with a few RV hook ups so you won't have showers or laundry facilities. We easily managed though as we used our shower and took the laundry to the laundromat just a block away. There is a very cozy courtyard and a recreation room with full kitchen and lounge area, TV, DVDs and magazines and a bathroom attached. The sites are gravel and pretty level, the water pressure was awesome and the quality of water as well, we even used it for drinking (very unusual for us!) Very short walk to groceries, restaurants, post office, hardware store, library and a coffee booth. The place is extremely well managed and taken care of, clean, quiet and safe. Will definitely stay there again when in the area!!! read more

My wife and I LOVED it ....... we have 2 small dogs and they were made very welcome by the woman who runs the motel. The room we stayed in was VERY well designed for a motel room: a nice table for eating or using my laptop to download pictures, easy to charge phones & devices, great bathroom shower and setup, comfy bed, and the hardwood floors felt like home. We loved how close it is to Tule Lake and Lower Klamath Wildlife Refuges! We'll be back!!! read more

The rooms are very clean. The grounds are well maintained and the decor and place over all are very cute. The owners are so genuine and welcoming. They had a bbq and invited guests. They said they wanted to have a bonfire but it had just rained, that would have been fun. They addressed every guest by name. The rec room has everything you would need to make yourself a meal all you need to bring, is food. Its warm and cozy. I would highly recommend this place to anyone passing through. read more

This place is great. We stayed in the "cabin" (#14) for 2 nights during our visit to Lava Beds. It was clean and modern. Great for a family of four with two single beds (used as couches during waking hours) in the main living room, and a queen in the bedroom. WiFi connection was solid, so they must have updated since the older review below. Owners are friendly and they even let you pick anything from their garden in the courtyard. After driving around the area and seeing some of the other lodging options, The Wild Goose was definitely the best choice. We would stay there again! read more

Decent place though felt overpriced given the town it was in. Ok clean though not great as some sediment in the shower cabinet and the mattress protector underneath the sheets had hair that was not ours all over it. Owner was nice and friendly though. If you must stay in this town this seems like the best place. read more
