Merrill is a very small town with limited restaurants/food options, but Mark shared options with candor, we took his advice, and enjoyed ourselves. This turned out to be the perfect resting point to enjoy a day driving through the Oregon Outback and then a day at Lava Beds exploring the lava tubes, with easy access to Klamath Falls museums. We will go back!

The continental breakfast was a little more substantial than I would have thought for a small hotel/motel like this. The rooms are decently clean, but definitely aged. Normally, if I needed it, I'd ask for a late checkout, but I had to be somewhere at noon. I wasn't expecting to hop on a video conference right before the 11am check out but I figured I could use the WiFi and run a few minutes over. Apparently, one woman was so anal, she knocked on our door right at 11 and gave me a dirty look when I told her I needed a minute. When I realized the call was going to be much longer than expected, I left at maybe 11:07. Then around 11:30, I got another call asking when I'd be out of the room...after I already left. When I said I had left just a few minutes after she had come by, it was as if she didn't believe me. It was just an odd interaction to conclude a long drive from Washington on the way back to California after an already long week. I think I'll choose another hotel next time. This one just seemed convenient for my appointment. Again, the rest of the staff was very courteous, just not this woman.

Our king sized room has a somewhat separate area from the bed with a couch, table, fridge, sink, microwave. (Coffee maker too if that's your thing). The free breakfast is not good. Haven't used the pool but the smell of chlorine hits you when you walk into the hotel. Front desk is always pleasant. We will continue staying here twice a year every year.

I had grown up as a kid here in K-Falls 52 years ago and wanted to come back to see the area. They had bumped the pricing because of the demand, and I get that, but it wasn't worth half of what we paid. It was reasonable clean and the staff was polite, she said they bumped the prices, but I wouldn't recommend the Shilo Inn. The a/c unit was noisy, the TV was old and dim, the room overall was just okay at best. For those of you who like breakfast, all they had was cold cereal, pre-wrapped omelets, bagels, and muffins and a microwave to heat them. Only stay here as a last resort.

THIS was exactly what I got at The Maverick Motel, and couldn't be happier. Don't think you're coming to a Hilton or anything like it.. but great value and exceeded all expectations. The Dad at the front desk was really great and polite even at 11pm AND when we left early morning. The room was definitely.clean and comfortable, with a good soft bed and pillows, a microwave and fridge, and a decent comfortable space for a toilet and shower/tub even for a big guy like myself. The AC blew cold. The TV and cable worked great. Nothing more you can ask for. Thank you for this stay and good nights sleep!!! A couple notes: 1. There is no breakfast here... But they do have coffee. 2. There is a small convenience store in the office, and they've got a lot. 3. MIDGE FLYS - they are everywhere outside and the Dad at the front desk warns you about them. Get in and out of your door quickly to keep them out. THEY ARE HARMLESS. 4. Not sure about wheelchair access here. I didn't see a ramp from the lot to the rooms, but I could be wrong.

I left my AirPods at the hotel and called the night to ask if I could have them sent back to me…read more The manager said that he would call me back and never did. I then after watched the location of my headphones change to someone's personal home in Klamath falls. I called back to ask about this and he kept brushing me off and calling me back. Then after days of me calling him and and trying to allow him to make it right, he claims my headphones were not 'stolen' because stolen is when someone takes your personal property 'from' you and apparently when you forget something it's fair game. He then read me the fine print from my agreement that says they aren't responsible for the loss of property. He insists that nobody rented the room after me, and that his housekeeping did not steal them . So how did they change locations if the only person on the room is an employee of the motel? Is he suggesting someone from the street came to take them out of the room? Because that seems wildly unsafe that anyone but a hotel staff would have access to the room. After days of avoiding my call, no apologies or anything. After getting majorly frustrated of him talking over me I ended up dropping an f bomb, and then he told me I needed to clean up my language. Clean up your dumpy hotel dude. To whoever works here and took my headphones, I hope it costs you your job. Would have been cheaper to just buy your own Unless it was the motel manager himself, then I hope this actually costs you some business.

To be fair, this was one of the busiest weekends I've ever seen there. As a business owner myself, I understand that on extremely busy days things don't always go as planned, and because of that I was willing to overlook quite a bit. We stayed in Chipmunk Condo Cabin #3. The cabin had a musty smell and a very small bathroom. The beach area was great for families, and my daughter absolutely loved it. The biggest issue was the food and customer service. Around 2 PM on our first day, we stopped to get pizza for lunch while waiting for our cabin and found out they were already sold out. Since there aren't many nearby dining options, I stopped by the lodge around 6:45 PM to specifically ask when they stopped seating guests. The two younger employees seemed annoyed and unsure but eventually told me the last seating would be at 7:45 PM. I explained that I was traveling with my wife, a 2-year-old, and a 3-month-old, and that driving an hour to Ashland or Klamath Falls for dinner wasn't ideal. We hurried back to the cabin, got ready, and returned around 7:35 PM, only to be immediately told they couldn't seat us because they were too busy and had a large party. My question was simple: Why wasn't I told that when I specifically came in earlier to ask? Had they explained the situation, I would have gladly come sooner. After asking to speak with a manager, who never actually came out, we were suddenly able to be seated. Once inside, there were several empty tables available, which made the whole situation even more confusing. Our server seemed annoyed from the moment we sat down. We decided to order our food to go instead of dining in, and even that seemed to bother him. When I politely provided feedback about the miscommunication, his response was essentially, "Well, we got you seated, didn't we?" That completely missed the point. The issue wasn't whether we eventually got a table. The issue was being given incorrect information and then nearly being turned away despite arriving before the stated seating cutoff. The next morning, we discovered mice had chewed through snacks we had left on the kitchen counter overnight. There are no cabinets available to store food. When I reported it, the manager apologized and explained that even the cabin she lives in on-site has mice because they're in the forest. While that explanation makes sense, it didn't make my wife feel any better with a 3-month-old baby sleeping in the cabin. The second day, pizza was available for lunch and was actually very good. The older gentleman working there was friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, when we returned around 6 PM for dinner, pizza was sold out again. My wife then tried ordering dinner to go from the lodge and was given a completely different takeout menu that excluded many of the better dinner options, including items we had ordered to go the night before. When she asked if she could order from the regular dinner menu, she was told absolutely not. The inconsistency made no sense. At that point, we'd had enough. Between the restaurant issues, the mice, and the overall lack of customer service, we decided to cut our trip short and leave a day early. The lake and beach are beautiful and have the potential to make this a great family destination. Unfortunately, poor communication, inconsistent service, restaurant issues, and mice in the cabins overshadowed what could have been a wonderful stay. Mice may be part of being in the woods, but regular preventative pest control inside the cabins would go a long way toward making guests feel more comfortable.

It would have been nice to see more signs outside directing me to the appropriate parking lot, tho. I ended up walking a country mile to get into the venue. Also, I don't know where this was advertised, but I didn't hear about it until the morning of the event, from a friend who was already on their way. Maybe some more PR would be helpful. And, even tho I didn't expect better from Klamath Falls, it would have been nice to see at least a single item on the concession menu that a gluten-free vegan could eat. I guess you can't win em all. All I know is that I'm thrilled with the stones I was able to find, and I can't wait to go to another event like this!
