The donuts were good; very fresh and tasty. However, the service was not very good. We had never been before and there are no labels on the donuts so we asked about them and the girl behind the counter was not happy about that. She sort of sighed and just said well they aren't filled with anything and this is a maple donut. She clearly did not want to be helping us and was annoyed we asked what was what. Poor donuts and even worst Service. It seems like I'm not the only one that agrees that a 24 hour donut shop should make donuts more than one a day. I am not a regular at this establishment. I had recently been given donuts that was bought at 6:30 am. Those donuts seemed to be the best I had had in Anchorage. So I thought I would go by and get some for the house. I showed up at 6:30pm and asked for a couple of standard donuts. Chocolate glazed, fruit filled, eclair. To my surprise they had none. Since I was I the drive thru I asked the lady what was available. Her answer was to step away from the window so I could look at the donut display. The problem was the display was 15 feet away and facing the opposite direction. So I gave up. I asked the lady what time they cooked donuts so I would know what a better time to return for a better variety. Her answer was around 2am or anytime throughout the day after that. Since I was there anytime after 2am I'm gonna assume that 2 am is the only time they cook throughout the day. read more

We've been here, are at least tried to go there a few times over the past couple of years, and their donuts were ok, and the service was consistently bad. The last time we went, their simple glazed donut was literally half the size it used to be. I don't know if the batch was just accidentally made smaller or what. Too many times have we attempted to go here and they have been closed either to no donuts, or due to the fact that they're on vacation. Really? You make donuts for a living, and you can't keep them instock? And you can't hire people to run the business while you're gone? How could anyone give this 3.5 stars or less? We get these for my workplace once a month. They have one cruller? that's not in a doughnut shape, but just a twisty straight piece covered with cinnamon sugar that just melts in your mouth when fresh. I found this place visiting Alaska. I love the lady who owns it... I came late at night and her kindness to me was appreciated. She made me a special tea and gave me a free donut with it. I went the second night and she went out of her way to make sure I had a great donut and tea. There donuts are delish and the people are nice. Best donuts in town! Doesn't smell and taste of grease. Not dense. I typically get an apple fritter or regular glazed donuts. They are so light and fluffy! Prices aren't jacked up so high unlike dipper donuts. read more

So, I've been on this donut kick for a bit, and I'm not sure why, but I've been coming here a couple of times a week since I've realized this place is really open 24 hours. If you come around 7 there are less donuts. I think it's because the joint bakes once a day around 9PM for the next day. Anyways, I've been digging the maple donuts and the chocolate glazed old fashioned. I like the glazed bizmarks with raspberry, but the glaze is incredibly flaky and gets everywhere. You need a baby bib to eat it. Some of the donuts aren't great to look at, but it's going in my gut so it doesn't need to look pretty. I'd rather have a tasty donut from here than a pretty donut from Fred Meyers. Staff has been nice, and reasonable, even at 12AM. Because there is a late night option and since I've had decent service I've decided to up it a star. There are punch card options for the people that like to order a dozen for the office or for personal consumption. Will come again. read more

I don't come here a lot but the last two times I came in to get a dozen for the office were really weird. Both times I walked in and (different) employees were engaged in a yelling fight with each other, the second time (today) with one straight up screaming in the back, telling the other employee how she works so f%#*ing hard and she isn't appreciated and on and on. And there were other customers in there, too! I almost walked right back out but she saw me and so I didn't want to make it anymore awkward. She was polite to me but seriously, wtf? And both times, while doughnuts were pretty good, their presentation was sloppy. Like some doughnuts looked smushed in the display case. I don't know. It is weird. It is tragic. This was, until this evening, my favorite donut shop...best tasting donuts in town and friendly service, particularly from the daughter who has kept the place together for so long. This evening we went there late to get fresh warm donuts. They had about 8-10 trays of fresh donuts in the back but told us they would not sell them until the donuts in the display cases were sold. At11:00 p.m. those are already day old donuts. And tomorrow morning, those same donuts will still be there and now a day and a half old! We walked out. Why would a business prefer to sell good customers, or any customers, day old donuts when they had fresh to serve? If the sense of service and high quality are gone, the taste of the product is sure to follow. read more

I have been craving donuts and coffee while freezing my butt here in Alaska. There is not really a good place to buy them in Eagle River, but Anchorage has quite a few options. One morning my brother in-law drove down to Golden Donuts and bought a dozen for us to eat. These are pretty good and I do not see why everyone else had complaints. It was warm, fresh, and a good variety of flavors. I fell in love with their coconut flakes covered donuts. It was such a nice balance of flavor and anything with coconut gets extra points with me. The glazed was pretty standard and so was the powdered. While it is nothing really amazing of a donut shop, it is good and pretty tasty to me. I would order from them again. read more

WHAT A JOKE! Just go and enjoy the best Alaska has to offer when it comes to donuts. I've never had a donut anywhere else in the world so afaik these are absolutely the best. (Whenever I got ahold of a krespy kreme it was slimy and just okay) Grocery store donuts are just slightly better than the day old heat lap food they sell. I usually get the large donuts at Golden which are a few cents more and it lasts me the whole day. Great coffee too. We go in there each payday as a treat and they always have a full stock of donuts. This is a good donut shop with a lot of variety. They are open 24 hours a day so they are pretty well stocked as opposed to when you walk into other donut shops later in the day (Dino's donuts). They were standard, nothing crazy or substantial. They have an old donut shop kind of feel. The staff wasn't overly friendly, but enough. I would come back again if I had another craving. read more

So coming to golden donuts is like a bad sexual experience. You look forward to it for days and get really excited about the worlds perfect donut then... You leave disappointed because they either are all out of the ones you were fantasizing about OR they are closed. I would give less if I could. They advertise that they are 24 hours yet at 6pm on a Saturday, my family and I went in for some donuts. However, a restaurant that only sells coffee and donuts does not have any donuts. Not just a poor selection but not one single donut...anywhere. The rude lady said they didn't have any and they were just a coffee shop right now. I asked when they would have some made and she said midnight. Why on earth would a donut place stay open if they have no donuts to sell?? This was my fourth visit to get donuts. 2 times they had donuts and they were good and 2 times they had zero donuts. So basically you have a 50/50 shit at being able to buy donuts at the donut shop.... Can't wait until we get Krispy Kreme up here. This place is going to be the first place to shut down.
