Female employee was very informative and easy to chat with about the baked goods. I inquired what are your most popular selling items. She mentioned cinnamon rolls, ham & cheese croissants, and snickerdoodles. We weren't near any microwaves to reheat the first two items so I opted for the third most popular item. And you will buy them over and over again because its comfort food on your way into/out of Girdwood or after you gas up on your way to Seward/Homer or back to Anchorage. We arrived about 25 minutes before the bakery closed. Before entering, a man sitting outside informed us that he was taking a 5-minute smoke break. We patiently waited outside until he finished smoking. Once he was done, he went inside and started serving us. However, I noticed that he didn't wear gloves or wash his hands after smoking. Normally, the service is quite good, so I hope this was an isolated incident. The gentleman seemed quite unprofessional and appeared annoyed to serve us and the people in front of us. read more

What a find right by Seward highway in Girdwood. Espresso and pastry. HUGE slab portions of brownie ane cinnamon roll. We had cheese danish, apple fritter, ham and cheese croissant ... all were easy to take go. Speedy coffee and efficient servers. Would hit this place again. I grabbed some amazing baked goods here this week while staying in Girdwood. My personal favorites were the maple bar which was very fluffy and light and the triple berry scone, which was absolutely enormous. Both times I visited, the staff members were very friendly and polite. The one reason I am not giving five stars is because the prices do feel steep, even from the perspective of someone coming from New York City. However, do not let that deter you from giving this place a try. read more

The young lady that works there is very nice. I bought a blueberry, strawberry muffin, only a few pieces of fruit on the top and nothing but dough on the rest of the muffin, plus very expensive for buying mostly dough, not recommended. I also bought an apple fritter, the same problem, a few pieces of apple on the top and the rest was dough. I bought 2 other items, very expensive for what they are selling, flour is cheap. So incredibly overpriced for mediocre pastry's. My ham and cheese savory had a single slice of hard ham that was 2x3 inches. Yes I pulled it out and measured because I couldn't take a bit of it because of how stiff it was. This is a Bakery in strip mall outside of Anchorage. It's quick service no seating. There is a wide range of offering from donuts, to cinnamon rolls and much more. I have gone back and read about the service. It was awesome with two friendly women ser ving and making conversation. The problem, perhaps, is that busloads of Cruisers seem to get off here at times. So, that's not the bakers problem. This is the first time i have gone to a place with 3 fritter flavors Apple blueberry and a third. Get the blueberry. It was great. Lots of variety, maybe some has been sitting for a bit.Ask what just came out of the oven. All prices in Alaska are crazy. This is no exception. 6-7 bucks for a baked good. GET THE CINNAMON ROLLS!!!! And anything else they have in the case. I am an avid lover of cake donuts and some places you must have coffee to wash them down, NOT Alpine. Delicious cake donuts that are so good coffee is just the bonus not a requirement. We arrived later in the day so the cupboards were kinda bare however Justin was kind enough to give us the fresh out of the oven cinnamon rolls. We had no idea how large they were so we ordered 3.....little did we know (refer to photo) even later they were so gooey and delicious we went back 3 more times in our 3 day stay. Busy, touristy intersection on way to Alyeska Resort. Open long hours in the summer. Gotta appreciate the effort that goes into this. When we were here, there was just one young lady doing it all. We recommend the Blueberry Fritter. Not much fruit at all in the Apple Fritter. Snickerdoodle was huge but not especially moist or flavorful. Good but not exceptional. Wish we had tried the Cheese and/or Apple Danish. Ham and Cheese Croissant was lots of flaky pastry but light on ham and cheese. Getting it heated is a must. Small, bustling place so try to have your method of payment ready. read more

The baked goods really aren't that good here, and they're pretty pricey. I've grabbed baked goods (cookies & brownies) twice from when we're craving something sweet, but not going into Girdwood. The nice part is that the portion sizes are fairly large, but considering they are priced pretty high for being just plain ol stuff that evens out. The baked goods taste just ok, and I'm left feeling like if really wasn't worth the extra calories. They will curb your sweet craving, but leave you oddly dissatisfied at the same time. I can't really speak to anything else they serve, but if you're looking for mediocre bakery items, didn't get anything in Anchorage, but can't wait until you get to your destination this is your spot. read more

It's worth the stop for the apple fritters alone. They actually have apples in them! If you are a coffee snob, this might not be the place for you. If you are a chocolate chip cookie snob, this definitely isn't the place for you. I'm giving it 5 stars because I can stop here, get a warm apple fritter, and throw it in my backpack. 20 minutes later, I can eat it skiing down the slopes at Alyeska. Best fresh doughnuts south of Anchorage and north lol. Always fresh, big and the best. We've made it a tradition for 20 Yrs now to grab a doughnut and hit the road south. Definitely worth the stop. I recommend and a great place to take photos outside too read more

Oh my word!! Went here Friday while heading to Whittier so I thought I would get some items for breakfast.. the bakery case looked very yummy & my eyes went straight to the scones so I asked for three of them then saw that they had apple fritters so asked for one of them.. then a peanut butter chocolate chip cookie said buy me at this time I had five items on the counter. The young man rang up my purchase & I immediately thought I was in the lumberyard with the amount he told me the total came to $28.. needless to say I was totally shocked. 2 stars is price is way to high for five items & the scones didn't taste at all like a scone, which was so disappointing as I'm on our boat eating this piece of blueberry bread, just didn't have the scone texture or flavor. The apple fritter didn't have any pieces of apple in it which I've never had an apple fritter without apple. Now I will say the cookie was fantastic but I'm not quite sure how much it cost. I did ask for the recipe but there was no breakdown on prices which was disappointing. I can't afford this place therefore I will stick with Great Harvest & plan better before leaving Anchorage. read more

Well now.. Isn't this a cool location and shop... First off, be prepared to get your fill for sure... The deserts are about the size of your head... no, seriously, my cookie was at least 7" across... I picked up a brownie that must have been nearly a pound for my Pop. He was in Utah and other than having to threaten the salivating TSA Dudes at the Anchorage AP it traveled well and we arrived mostly fresh but certainly delicious. See, TSA got involved for two reasons... the density of the brownie triggered the secondary inspection of my carry on pack and when they saw that it was a delicious brownie and giant cookie the fight was nearly on... The swab of my belongings went predictably well and aside from threatening to wrassel over the goodies I was on my way. Outstanding you all... I will be back for some more Espresso and delightful tasty goodness... read more

This place has the absolute worst donuts I have ever tried. I have been wanting to try these donuts for three years. What a disappointment. I'm not a sweets person but the donuts had no glaze on it and were gummy. As if they weren't cooked at all. I must admit that the cashier was incredibly friendly. Although she did tell me I couldn't go wrong with my choice which was definitely not true. Such a huge waste of money. I got a wide variety of donuts and not one was edible. Today we stopped on our way out of town And this will be the last time we go there. The cookies were so soft they crumbled opening them. They have no flavor. I got the peanut butter and yup no peanut butter taste. The oatcakes tasted like raw dough and the chocolate chip was nasty. $3.50/$4.00 for cookies we had to throw away. If we had tasted them before we left i would have asked for my money back. Update- we also got a brownie and a cinnamon bun. When i asked for the brownie he had one already ready. I figured he had them ready so people don't wait. No it was old. When just opened it and it's hard as a rock. When touched the side and it was turning white. It was so hard you knew it wasn't fresh. The only thing that is half decent is the cinnamon bun. They were $5 each. So i wasted about $24 in this store and nothing was edible. The cashier was friendly, and when I asked for a recommendation between the chocolate chip and the Nutella she was quick to point me towards the Nutella. It's a giant cookie, which is fun, but it was also pretty disappointing. It honestly didn't taste like anything. So I waited until I got home and put more Nutella on it, and then it was better. read more

Really wanted to like this place as I'm a sucker for a good pastry shop. The positive: the 2 gals working there were friendly. The not-so-positives: the cinnamon roll was dry and just okay. Definitely heat it to try to salvage it. The multi-berry scone had a bread-like flavor/texture (not what you'd expect for a scone). To add even more disappointment, our total was $15 for just those two items! I'd say skip this place, which hurts me to say about a pastry shop. read more

Hungry and thirsty after quite a bit of driving, my girlfriend and I stopped into Alpine Cafe & Bakery in hopes of finding some local treats. We were disappointed. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? Alpine Cafe is a cute enough bakery and our server was very nice. She gave us some backstory around the goods and the coffee, which was helpful context given she let us know that Alpine's head baker had recently quite and it was thus up to the baristas to make the baked goods. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? Large cookies ran me $3.50 each, so we grabbed two and were on our way. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? These cookies were... not great. Maybe it's because they were baked by an inexperienced barista as opposed to a baker, but the ingredients seemed entirely off with poor flavor, lacking sweetness, and texture that was too firm.
