Our family went there for dinner one evening. There were a few other patrons in the restaurant but not many. We had to wait for 20-30 minutes for them to push together 2-3 tables for us. After finally being seated, we waited another 30 minutes to order because nobody wanted to wait on us. It took a very long time for our food to arrive, the food was terrible quality and most of it was cold, and afterwards several of us felt ill. This is not the first time that we've felt sick after eating there, but we hoped that it would be better. The whole place had a very depressing feeling, the ambiance was not goo. It was a horrible experience and we will never go back! It was expensive so please don't waste your money! I usually try to support small businesses locally but this was really bad! read more

Not very good. Used to love this place but not so much anymore. The won tons were 15 bucks and they had virtually no meat! They were just fried won ton wrappers. The pot stickers were terrible! We were out for a ride because we are staying just South of here at Stoneridge resort and this place was mentioned on their list of places to eat nearby. Newport is around 2500 people on the border of Idaho and I really did not expect much and I was right. There was nobody in the place when we walked in bit it did get fairly busy after about 20-30 min. The place was super clean and the waitress was really nice and had good knowledge of how things were prepared for the most part. The ( owners) were an elderly Chinese lady and I assume who was her husband speaking what sounded like Mandarin so I hoped we had set foot into a place with great food. Anyways, on to the food. We ordered the Egg Foo Young which was actually amazing with the small exception that it had too much gravy which took away from it. The next two dishes were Combo Noodles and Crispy Chicken. As soon as she delivered the noodles I could tell by looking at them that something was wrong, the noodles looked really weird, kind of like noodles from a cup. What was worse though was the chicken was pure white with the worst texture and zero flavor it was definitely from a can. The beef looked as if it had been precooked. It was dried out looking and like the chicken also w/o flavor. All of the meat had never touched the wok while raw as far as I could tell. The Crispy Chicken was mostly breading and a ton of corn starch thickened gravy with no flavor either. The chicken noodle dish at Costco in the meat department is 1000x better. I was pleasantly surprised by the food here. I had the Szechuan chicken over fried rice with almond chicken. I've had my fair share of almond chicken and I would rate it a 4/5. My wife had the dinner combo (they do allow substitutions) which included sweet n sour chicken, prawns (these were great), and special chow mein, which we both loved. The oolong tea was decent. The waiters were very nice and helpful and the wait was not to long. However, do NOT get the almond chicken! It was tiny pieces of chicken with a really thick batter that was extremely greasy. I've had the best luck in eating out while on vacation. Golden China in Newport has really good combo plates. Great for one person for dinner. Almond Chicken, Sweet and Sour Pork, Pork Fried Rice and Pork Chow Mein. I love the chow mein that has lots of veggies and the crispy noodles. Terrible. We ordered for pickup and when we got home we found that they gave us the wrong food. When we called and let them know, they told us that we had to drive back and return the food in order to get a refund. It was getting late and I have an infant, I didn't have time to drive all the way back out there just to prove a point. She told us that we were lying and just wanted free food. Wtf? I tried to be nice but she was just so rude. I guess we'll just have to take the loss and never eat there again. To add insult to injury (we ate it since we paid for it and didn't have time to make anything else) and it was terrible. We ate here on a Friday night around 7 and while the parking lot was busy, there were plenty of tables. The service was friendly and prompt. The food was reasonable and my food was tasty but my wife complained they took shortcuts like using shaved lunch meat in the fried rice. read more

We have been coming here for close to 25 years and while some meals have been better than others, we've always appreciated their prompt and friendly service. We've also narrowed down our favorites - Hot and Sour soup and Beef and Broccoli. Recently, we ordered a pick up order and their safety measures were outstanding! My sister and I (visiting from Seattle) stopped here for dinner 6/8/2019. I ordered one of the combination plates with pork fried rice (not fried - colored with something to give it a brown color) then sprinkled with a tiny bit of bbq pork, Pork chow mein - hard and tasteless "noodles" that I KNOW are from a can. On top of the hard/tasteless noodles - some kind of congealed green vegetable slop - (unfortunately I kid you not) - again sprinkled with tiny bits of bbq pork. The deep fried shrimp tasted old. It is amazing that this place stays in business! HORRIBLE!!! First time here for me. We got seated quickly, however, there was some trash in the bench seat and the hostess didn't bother to clean it up. The waitress came quickly. We had questions and she nicely answered all of them. The food came quickly, as well. I ordered the Ma Po Tofu. It was not what I was used to but it was fairly tasty. The downfall was the sauce had too much cornstarch in it and quickly coagulated. My husband ordered the Szechwan beef. It was not at all like what we are used to and I did not like the sauce at all but my husband liked it. He said the beef and the veggies were cooked fine. Don't be confused like we were! There is only ONE Golden China Restaurant in Newport, WA, whether it is on Hwy. 2 or 7th St. I hate giving negative reviews, but sometimes it is unavoidable. I was reminded of a traditional "Greasy Spoon" Highway restaurant that decided to serve something resembling Chinese food. My wife and I split one lunch special, and we got plenty of food, fast. First time/Birthday meal/Foot-in-mouth situation! We ordered combination fried rice, chicken chow mein, shrimp with garlic sauce, sweet and sour chicken, and hot and sour soup. When we sat down to eat, we thought we had brought home the wrong meal. Fried rice was there, some sort of chicken vegetable dish, vegetables in sauce, a container of brown sauce, a container of fried chicken, soup, and a bag of crispy noodles. ‍ I called back saying I had gotten the wrong order. BTW, it's my daughter's birthday and we live a ways out of town. I could have, maybe, probably, most definitely had a "huffy Karen tone." Like a professional, handling misunderstandings with grace for 25 years, Jennifer kindly explained I had infact gotten the correct order. The chicken with vegetables and the crunchy noodles was the chicken chow mein. We had expected soft noodles, which they offer and it is called Special Chow Mein. The fried chicken and sauce was the sweet and sour chicken. For takeout they package separately so the fried chicken doesn't get soggy. And the vegetables in sauce was actually the shrimp with garlic sauce. Yeah, really. I just hadn't dug in and once I did, I found plenty of shrimp. Oh, and the sweet and sour sauce isn't that phony pink goopy stuff. Super yummy! Jennifer also let me know that dishes are made to order so next time we can customize and substitute if needed.
