I heard about this place and decided to stop by since I was in the area. The cashier was patient as I figured out what I wanted. The food was prepared timely and they wait to make sure the togo order is correct. Wish the seating was fully open but they still block off every other table. The spring roll is basically a small egg roll. Not a fan of the eggroll but others liked it. The steak bowl and shrimp bowl were quite large for to go. The bowl is basically your meat choice over fried rice. The rice wasn't completely fried as there was still some white rice mixed in. The shrimp and steak is good and plentiful. The steak is large cuts of meat which isn't bad but it would be nice if cut a little smaller but still same portion. They have yum yum sauce that you can pump in portion cups by the soda fountain. It's nice that you can portion your own. I like it so far and will come back. Maybe to try the fried chicken next. read more

I've been going here for 10 years the food and service were always excellent...well today it changed...I have no idea if they have new owners or just cheap old ones, so they completely removed the yum sauce dispenser with no warning or notice, we bought $60 worth of food online and they asked how many sauces, I said 8 since we had 3 full sized entrees including 10 tenders and an additional 3 tenders, after laughing at me for asking for 8, real professional, they said you get 5, wow, sorry the 3 extra will break the bank, so I asked if I could buy the 3 extra, they said cash only because $10 minimum on card, and since I ordered online and have no cash, no yums for me, again there is no signage of the changed policy and no notice online or even option online for adding sauces! I should have know something was different when I walked in and this bitter angry looking worker was walking around and didn't acknowledge my existence, oh sorry I came here to spend money, my bad lady! I understand people take advantage of the free yum sauce, but you had it out since you first opened over 10 years ago, you want to remove it fine, but tell your customers, luckily Prince Frederick has more food choices, best of luck Golden Chicken hopefully your terrible service keeps you going! Absolutely the worse! Please take our warning... go somewhere else. The story... we wanted to try someplace new and I'm sorry we came here. The food was horrid- most of it went into the trash. The oysters were burnt to a crisp, the onion rings looked like they had just been cooked in a white flour coating and soggy, the fries were greasy and soggy, the chicken had absolutely no flavor, the slaw looked old and grossly mayonnaise-y, and the topper... chicken egg rolls were just that, egg roll wrappers with nothing else but disgusting minced-up chicken inside- absolutely NO vegetables. Golden Chicken and Japanese Grill has been around since the mid- '90s, their flagship store being this one. They have two other locations in Lusby and in Lexington Park. Their menu is pretty extensive, offering daily specials, various appetizers, fried chicken, seafood platters, Japanese grill items (teriyaki bowls, hibachi combos, etc.), soups, salads, sandwiches, sides, and desserts. Other locations offer Chinese and Thai as well. We ordered: the Broccoli Poppers (little misshapened fried triangles, filled with chopped-up broccoli and cheese; these came with a side of ranch sauce, which was not really needed; the poppers were crispy and yummy!); a 3-piece chicken combo (we opted for 1 wing and 2 thighs; these came fresh out-of-the-fryer and were super juicy and crispy! No need for hot sauce, either, although I wished they had Texas Pete! The only hot sauce that they had were Yi Pin packets of sweet & sour-like sauce that was 'spicy'); a side of mac and cheese (definitely cheesy, but could have been more thicker); a side of mashed potatoes and gravy (this was not good, as the gravy was just not tasty); a biscuit (buttery, soft, and flaky, this biscuit was delicious!); and, Hibachi Steak (served on top of fried rice and comes with a side of grilled zucchini, onions, and carrots; this was tasty! The steak chunks were super large, seasoned well, and the fried rice was stir-fried perfectly; there's unlimited yum yum sauce at the pump station (all 3 pumps offers the yum yum sauce) by the soda machine). Staff were friendly, and all items are made-to-order. Your food items are actually delivered to your table, so that was a nice added touch for a fast-casual eatery! Definitely a great local spot to get your fried chicken and your hibachi craving satisfied! It's not the best but it is good and it is the only hibachi to go at a fairly good price in town. It is my go to for hibachi and their orange chicken was pretty good just really skimpy on the veggies in that dish like really only one piece of broccoli in the dish lol read more

The fried chicken used to be the absolute best, but it was very disappointing the last time I ordered there. I ordered a bucket of mixed pieces, an order of tenders, and an order of livers. The mixed pieces were small and dry. The thigh had almost no meat on it whatsoever. The tenders were good, but a little on the small side. The livers were so bad I had to throw them out after eating only one. The liver was very dry and the amount of breading was grossly excessive. I've heard that the Fast Stop has good fried chicken, so I'll try that next time I'm in the mood. read more

You get exactly what you expect. Which is a good thing. Super greasy, super juicy and tasty chicken. I had the 2pc dark combo with coleslaw and a biscuit. Chicken was great and the coleslaw was tasty but too small. Biscuit was good but you could tell it had been sitting around a little too long. If you've been here before; they've renovated the eating area. Don't know if they got new ownership or not but the place looks great. Much more comforting. last night I went and ordered some food to go. I ordered dumplings, when I got home come to find out, no sauce to go with them. I ordered a the teppanyaki dinner with steak and shrimp. Family and friends have been going here since it has opened and it was undoubtedly the best fried chicken in Calvert county. Unfortunately this has come to an end. The flavor is still good but the size of the pieces are bordering that of quail or pigeon. As the price per pound of chicken make it an affordable protein for these types businesses. I told them sorry they must be on the wrong internet if they can't make changes in days and amounts or any words for that matter. It said 26.99 and that is what it should be. read more

It was okay. Order the 3 chicken tender and 3 fish combo. I thought the fish was going to be bigger but it was ok size. Actually the friend fish was way better than the chicken tenders so I'm happy I didn't just get chicken. The mac n cheese was way too cheesy as you can see in the pictures. I grew up in the area but never just recently realized I didn't appreciate this place enough while I used to live in Calvert County. Having lived in a few major cities in the Midwest and west coast, I've come back home on visits and must bow down before Golden Chicken. Figuratively speaking, that is! I've only ever eaten chicken from here, but honestly once you have that, it will be hard for you to go the restaurant and order anything different. My go to meal, is the 6pc Barbecue chicken tenders with a side of fries. That also comes with a biscuit. The chicken tenders, fries and biscuit will honestly make you never return to KFC or Popeyes. They are honestly just that good! I promise you. Been going here for years. Not the quality fried chicken that it once was, but still well worth it. My go-to is the fried fish and chicken tender basket with fries and a biscuit. It's a ton of food for the money and generally doesn't make you feel horrible like most fried foods. Fountain drinks are right on the money. Tables are pretty uncomfortable, but this is a quick in and out place to eat so they probably don't want you reclining and taking a nap. Overall good stuff... read more

This is an amazing little, hole-in-the-wall, chicken restaurant. Their chicken strips are the best I have ever tasted. The chicken strips are amazing, but the honey mustard sauce is out of this world. It's like crack - addictive, euphoric, and cheap. The best part is that they give you a huge amount of honey mustard (crack) sauce with each order of their chicken strips. I would recommend getting a 6-piece chicken strip combo. It comes with a side and a biscuit. The mashed potatoes and mac 'n cheese sides are delicious. I highly suggest getting a combo just so you can enjoy their buttery biscuits. I have been going to this restaurant for over 10 years and I have never once had bad service. We had a 16 piece chicken with mashed potatoes gravy, cole slaw and Mac n cheese. The chicken is always good and better than other fried chicken places around town. The sides are fair and nothing special. We have also had the fried livers and they are good also. The atmosphere is true take out Chinese and very plain. The kids love the yum yum sauce. The restaurant has a nice local restaurant feel. The fried food was amazing! It taste better than KFC and rivals Popeye's. However I did have a glance into the kitchen and noticed that their sides are not from scratch by from canned. Even they use the Gloria canned foods I feel like if they can put as much effort into their sides as they do with their chicken then this would be famous. I do love the fact that they also serve Japanese hibachi foods b/c I used their yum yum sauce with my friend liver and gizards.
