The selection is beautiful and they have a wide assortment of different furniture, lighting, and art. The prices to the value are very reasonable, especially compared to other secondhand stores in the area. Each time I visit, there is always newness. It didn't have a price tag but I figured heck, why not support small business! Service was a bit of a miss that day and the lady let me know that because those ornaments are sold all year, they weren't included in the sale. I still bought it hopeful to support local and could not believe my total was $26. Full of regret, I'll hang it every year and share the story with grandkids to come LOL. Also, service was a bit of a miss as mentioned because the other associate looked at me asking if I was ready to purchase, even though she wasn't prepared to ring me up. Their scale showed my bracelet at only 17.26 grams, and they tested it as 18K gold, even though I know for a fact that it is 21K gold. Based on their results, they offered me only $2,200. I then went to another pawn shop in Arlington Heights, where my bracelet weighed 25.7 grams and I was offered $2,600. The large difference in both the weight and offer raised serious concerns for me. I will say they do have an impressive amount of jewelry and their art selection was beautiful. However, our experiences were completely soured by the owner. We were by the corner near the register looking at their COSTUME jewelry. The cabinet did not happen to be locked and there was no sign on the door explicitly asking customers not to go in. A guy who I now realize was her husband kept poking his head in between our shoulders. At that point I thought it was just a guy with no concept of personal space. I now understand he was checking to see what we were doing as if we could steal with all the cameras around. He did not say anything to us immediately and I think at that point he told his wife to say something so she proceeds to very loudly scold us in front of her staff and the other customer in the store. She did apologize to my sister, however, there was no reason to behave the way she did especially when you depend on other people to make a living. I hope they can at least put signs to ensure there are no miscommunications in the future.

The people who make the goods here are from all over -- from Chili to Ghana. When I purchase gifts, they often include brief information about the artist as well as the shop. Friends and family -- including my super cool teenage nieces and my mom -- who have received gifts from this store before are always excited when they see the familiar box. In fact, this Christmas I did the majority of my shopping here. They carry an amazing array of jewelry. From beautiful beaded necklaces to metal cuffs to swingy earrings. They also carry clothing (sweaters were a huge item this winter), colored scarves (I can't get enough!), wooden bowls, purses, blankets, rugs, wall decor, children's items and frames. During the holidays they even carry ornaments. I've posted a pic of a couple of them. The people who volunteer here are extremely nice and dedicated to helping the artists they show -- often women trying to support their families. But when buying here be prepared for a slow process. Because they are volunteers it's not like walking into a well oiled retail shop. But who really cares? It feels great to help out people who are trying to help themselves (hint -- it's the artist) and give gifts that have meaning to me and the recipient. It's been an amazing teaching tool for my nieces while giving them things they love. Hmmm. I think it's time for a new fashion scarf. Can't stay away too long!

Also, I brought in a watch for battery replacement. They were going to hold my watch for the owner, Lisa, to replace the battery but luckily, she came in while I was still there and quickly made the repair. Also, I sold them my broken gold chain. So I still came out ahead. The owner and her staff were very nice, the jewelry cases have some gorgeous pieces, and I think it says a lot about a person if they have their dog at their establishment.

I must have…read morementioned when getting ready one day that I could use more casual bracelets and my husband took that has a hint (even though it wasn't intentional) to get me one for my bday. He found Glenview Jewelers (thanks Yelp) and purchased a lovely bracelet that can be worn and all times- day and night. When I first tried it on it was huge so I went back to the jeweler to get it fitted. The very sweet woman who was in the store seemed excited to meet me after mentioning she had helped my husband pick out the bracelet. They said it would take about a week to fix and would call me when it was ready. I did a little browsing of my own while in there and they have such beautiful jewelry that I can imagine it was difficult to choose one thing. When my bracelet was ready I went to pick it up twice and both times the store was closed, even though it was during their typical opening hours. It was a little annoying since it's at least a 20 minute drive to my house. I stopped by a third time when in the area and the third time was the charm because it was ready for me. It fit perfectly and I've enjoyed wearing it ever since!
