Amazing interior design, incredible pastries, unmatched vibe. However, my cappuccino had probably the most disappointing foamed milk of all time for the expectation set by the aesthetics of the place. It was significantly too hot and poorly foamed. The espresso is better than okay, but not great. Overall a wonderful place and I'm glad to have spent my money there (even though it was pretty pricey) but I hope that in the future their baristas could be a little more experienced and their roasting or sourcing could level up. When I stumbled across Gold Coast Cafe, one of the high tables was filled with four older women catching up over a cup of coffee. They told me they have been meeting at this little neighborhood cafe for years. That captures the essence of Gold Coast Cafe. To the tourist, it's a simple bodega in 16th Street Heights with every staple you want from fine wine and cheese to ziplock bags. However, to the local, it's a gathering place serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and a decent cup of coffee at that. There are a few small tables and window seating with plugs so you can bring your computer! Pro-tip: If you love a good red velvet cake, Gold Coast Cafe makes a good one for $4 per slice. read more

Super cute corner store that delivers a taste of anything you might seek in a neighborhood market. Really, all I ever want is an almond milk latte, and they serve it up beautifully here. For now, they don't even charge an arm and a leg for it! Good selection of sandwiches and salads made to order by awesome people who own and work at this store. There is a nice selection of pastries and cake slices, too, as well as bakery cookies. Note: there is vegan carrot cake. As for everything else, I am impressed by the intelligent choices they have for food, staples, beverages and snacks. By that, I mean there are some of my favorite tortilla chips, gluten free flours, almond milk, chocolate, raw nuts and other miscellaneous edible items available for purchase. They also sell wine, milk, grab n go beverages, granola bars, fruit pieces, smoothies, etc. Really though- I just want almond milk lattes from this place... I like the window seating! read more

It's cold and it's pouring; the smell of coffee and pastries combined is heavenly and I had a very pleasant experience. Super cute corner store. Nothing fancy, but great for what it is. They have a good selection of sandwiches, coffee, and baked goods (including yummy looking cakes!) I got a Cajun chicken panini and it was good. It also came with a small bag of chips which was a pleasant surprise. It is not "gourmet" but definitely a good little neighborhood deli. Plus, the service is great and friendly. They even recognize their usual customers, which is one of the best parts of any local deli/cafe. They also have a pretty good selection of wines. I adore my neighborhood market. As a matter of fact this is the second one in my neighbor. The reason I adore this so much is that they can make you specialized coffee and you can get a nice pastry. What a great little addition to the neighborhood! Variety of snacks, bakery cakes, sandwiches, wine, and sundries. You could totally grab something for the holiday office party (baklava and Italian cookies!) or just hole up with a dirty chai latte, a smoothie, or a sandwich to get some work done on your laptop. I like the multipurpose-ness of it all. And... The commuter options are grand: 2 hour free parking, near bus stop, and DC bikes! Service was attentive, warm, and gracious. A treasure in our neighborhood, 16th St Heights. Easy to call them a convenience store, and they fill that function, but such a fine selection! They go far beyond what you'd normally find. Virgil's cream soda, Tate's chocolate chip cookies, local beers...I'm always amazed at what I find. I always leave with more than I planned to buy. Comfortable for lunch, with good food. I'm dog-sitting for a friend in this neighborhood. It's thanksgiving so I went on yelp to see what is open and I stumbled on this cafe. I'm waiting for my food now.. it looks delicious on the pics and the food is very decently priced. However, what I wanted to comment on was the fact that this small market is extra tidy, coffee is delicious, and the staff was extremely friendly, which is a hard find in dc nowadays.. while I'm not from this neighborhood, I felt right at home. It's so amazing to have such a well-stocked store and hangout right in our neighborhood- it's kept us sane during the Covid shutdown. They're great about stocking a wider range of staples than one might expect - from oat milk to baking supplies to a broad array of wines to, yes, hand sanitizer. Stopped into the new Gold Coast Deli for lunch today. (Full disclosure: It's formerly the site of Gold Corner, whose owner was tragically killed in a robbery in 2014.) The new owners have turned this corner bodega into a beautiful and inviting space. They have breakfast and lunch sandwiches made-to-order, and a diverse beer selection (wine also). The groceries are really well stocked - a ton of options, several in the hipster/artisanal category. I got a turkey sandwich and had about eight different cheese options to choose from; it came with a small bag of chips (also, I had a selection from about four brands). Delcious - although I don't think the avocado was ripe enough for serving. That's my only minor complaint. The staff was so exceedingly nice; and again, the space is truly welcoming, with a long table for seating, as well as chairs along the floor-to-ceiling windows. And they have free wifi! I wish them well, and hope they find success in the neighborhood. read more

I want to like this place as I want to support the few businesses in my neighborhood but I don't plan on going back after today. I've been here a few times as they have a nice selection of beer and snacks but today was very eye opening. I went in for dog bones and realized that all of the bags on the bottom shelves in this section had been bitten into ( by rodents or another animal...either way, something that should not be at a grocery store). When I showed this bag to who I assumed was the manager, she dismissed me rudely and told a younger cashier to find another bag. He went back to the same spot and we looked through each bag to find that not only were they all bitten into but all were also expired. If I can't trust this place for dog bones, I certainly can't trust buying food here anymore. read more

Great selection of standard and especially high end groceries (if you want fancy snacks or potato chips or organic milk, this is the place to go). Impressive beer selection for a corner store (Goose Island, DC Brau, etc.). And they stock some of the key day-to-day fresh produce like bananas. I also enjoyed my coffee and panini. And great for people watching with all the seating and their huge windows My only wish is that they'd remove a few of the stickers from the (new, beautiful) windows. Came in search of Pampelonne and they had both the Rose and the Sangria. When I originally couldn't find it, a store attendant was very helpful in grabbing the two 6-packs for me. Will definitely be back to try their food and other speciality bevs. read more

This is my second time here. As a tourist I'm still not impressed with the cashier. Customer service is important but she doesn't seem to realize that. The lady that was here the other day was busy helping an elderly customer and she yelled for her like the store was on fire....but this Lady just turned and smiled and said one minute I'm coming. So sweet so polite. I wish her customer service would rub off on the cashier. She took my order and served it to me all with a smile. She is great....if I heard correctly her name is Tee.
