Love me some GoGo Empandas! I picked up Katy and Piper at Innerpeaks and they were hungry. This is their first time. I love that I can get a snack or a meal and either way I never leave hungry and the food is outstanding! Piper wasn't feeling adventurous so she went with ham & cheese and cheeseburger empandas. Katy got the chicken and potato and Italian calzone empandas. I decided to get a seafood for my wife which is her favorite and a Cuban. This review is overdue. I tried this spot for lunch on Friday, 12-23-22. I had a deal with Uber Eats where I needed to spend around $25. With each empanada being priced so low, this easily turned into a large order that I ended up sharing with others. I ordered Greek patty "wheat;" Columbian-style fried potatoes "papa criolla;" bacon, scamble eggs, & cheddar cheese patty "wheat;" spinach & cheese patty "wheat;" Italian sausage patty "wheat;" broccoli & cheese patty "corn;" salpicon; seafood patty "wheat;" guava & cheese; Italian calzone patty "wheat," and caramel & cheese. My favorites were Italian sausage, broccoli & cheese, seafood, guava, caramel, & salpicon. I love finding delicious food that is a great price! We load up on empanadas here at every visit. Some get eaten on site and the rest get taken home for a meal or snack for later. The variety of choices is really impressive. There are a ton of savory options--some with flour patties and some with corn. My favorites are the pork (pernil) and beef (carne molida). They've got a few dessert empanadas too! Sweet plantain and cheese...yum. They also offer arepas, which I LOVE, and I typically go with a custom combo of pork, cheese and plantains. I love this sweet and savory combo! And they really load these up so for me, one arepa is enough for a meal. You can get different sauces to go with your empanadas and they are all really yummy. The garlic sauce is my #1 fave but there's also something really good about the pink sauce, which I'm pretty sure is a mayo-ketchup combo. The service isn't always super fast but they are friendly and the food is truly worth the wait. Don't come here if you're in a hurry unless you've ordered ahead. Pro tip: grab a coffee at the Panadería a couple doors down so you can get a little energy boost while waiting. There are a few tables inside, but not a ton of room to sit, so if it's really busy, you may have to take your empanadas elsewhere or just chow down in the car. I was very impressed with the empanadas. We had several of the empanadas we tried different ones. The beans were really good seasoned well and to tostones were light and crispy. They give you several sauces to try my favorite is the pineapple one . We also tried 3 desert ones the apple an Nutella a peanut butter my favorite. I would have given them a 5+ but service was not good along with the language barrier. They labeled 1 wrong for us another one we didn't get. You are driving as part of the mania that is Independence Boulevard in Matthews. Gogo is one ship is a very long shopping strip full of similar shops and stores. You have to really watch for it and be ready to turn in. We found it and joined the mesh of cars parking and leaving the large lot. It is small and has a huge, somewhat crazy menu. Bright and colorful, the empanada selection is huge. How does one decide? The "pattys" are either wheat or corn. The stuffings are an amazing array and combinations. You really need to study the menu, but won't have a chance as you have to order. You place your order and wait. There are maybe 6 tables, so not a lot of indoor seating and there is no outdoor seating except for your car or walking around the parking lot while eating. The prices are excellent. Empanadas are priced from $1.60 - $1.80 each. So get a bunch and share yours with someone that ordered different versions than yours. They are not a meal in themselves, but a meal is at least two or more. We tried: Italian Calzone, Chili and Ground Beef, Mexican, Polish, Apple Delight and Guava and Cheese. And two cans of soda. They have so many empanadas on the menu including many meatless options. I called in my order of spinach/cheese and seafood(shrimp, crab, scallops) with the choice of 3 sauces and I think the green sauce was my favorite. The request was are the empanadas corn or flour? The return response, "the empanadas are 100% corn." Part of the menu is made of corn, the other flour. Make sure to ask if you have an allergy! I've been here 4 times during covid because it's amazing comfort food! My grandma and mom make empanadas so I have a high standard. They have wheat flour or corn flour empanadas. I believe the corn would be gluten free but not sure because the young woman I spoke with was not certain. They also offer other entrees but I've only had the empanadas. They gave a covid clear shield and everyone working is wearing gloves and masks. I've tried a lot of the options and recommend the beef, chicken, and spinach veggie ones. The other crazy flavors are good too but I love the classics. Be sure to order all the sauces to try, oh my gosh each one is different from the next yet somehow perfect. They have a green herb sauce that reminds me of chimmichurry, a red hot sauce that is medium heat, a white creamy garlic sauce, and a pink creamy sauce... All awesome! I drove over 30 miles to try this so called "Colombian" empanada spot and it was a total waste! If you're from North Carolina this is probably as good as it gets, but for those of us who are from real cities with diverse cultures this place will disappoint you. For starters a real Colombian empanada bakery won't have 60 different types of empanadas, that just ridiculous. A REAL Colombian bakery or restaurant will have REAL Café con Leche! This place tried to offer me potted American coffee with milk. LMAO!! So they didn't have REAL coffee, they didn't have Avena and they didn't have Manazana Postobon. And if that wasn't bad enough the empanada was horrible! Bland with no flavor to it! I'm glad I only ordered 2. I'm not sure why the Latinos of Charlotte refuse to invest in an espresso machine to make REAL coffee and instead try to offer American coffee with milk which is not the same. Gogo Empanadas is a place we kind of stumbled up on while we were actually meaning to go to Lucy's Bake & Deli. We had planned our trip and gotten in the car and realized Lucy's was closed. Where else could we go for empanadas? Enter, Gogo. A quick drive over to Matthews and we were in the little restaurant ordering pretty much any kind of empanada we could think of. They also had dessert empanadas and arepas. Our first trip there we tried to get as many different ones as possible and split them so we could try a variety! Most were really good, some were OK to good, some were great. The philly cheesesteak one was a big surprise that we both loved, as well as the Cuban. What really surprised us was the arepas. They are made to order and came out super fresh and stuffed with whatever you wanted (beef, chicken, cheese, a combination of things, etc.) We ordered in store and it was about a 15-20 min wait for everything fresh, so I would recommend calling ahead if you are in a hurry. Let me start off by saying I've came here in the past but today 03/20/2024 me and my boyfriend walked in to order they told us that it was going to be a 15-20 min wait we proceeded to wait an hour for our food when our food came out we grabbed it and left when I checked it in the car it was cold and really really salty .
