Gogi Nori has only been open for about a month, so we expected they were still working through some growing pains. We were unexpectedly surprised by how good everything was. Both the sushi and the BBQ meats were top notch and everything was fresh and flavorful. The service was also great. It's always interesting to me that this location went from being an island burger to a Korean Bbq joint then to a new Korean Bbq joint! With that said, me and my cousin decided to finally check this place out! We went on a Sunday around 2pm and was sat immediately. Definitely call ahead to accommodate parties over 8 but this place has a huge setting and will definitely work with you. Onder prepared our table and we explained to him it was our first time here and he was probably one of the best waiters I've had in a long while. He explained everything that was different between the two tier system they have here and also showed us the ramen bar and how that worked. Thanks Onder! You were awesome. The top tier menu price is 74.99 while the premium menu price is 57.99 and all were very fair prices considering all they offered. I mean all you can eat sushi and kbbq what more can you ask for?! We opted to go with the premium. You order through your phone, 5 options at a time for both the sushi and kbbq. First came out the beef tongue, beef belly, pork jowl, and ribeye. All were delicious especially the beef tongue here! The sushi order consisted of their seared items which were all awesome as well. Everything we pretty much ordered here was delicious and I had nothing to complain about. Onder made the experience even better by letting us know that they had ice cream in the end. AWESOME! I was really excited to try the Supreme buffet. I love lobster. I also enjoy crispy rice. I didn't like having to use my phone to order food. The last place here gave you a tablet. Other places give you a tablet too i couldn't believe how small the lobster tail was. I thought Fish and Game required lobster to be larger. Gogi Nori is a new AYCE KBBQ and sushi restaurant that opened in Irvine. Its selling point is that you can eat both KBBQ and sushi and don't need to settle for just one or the other. We made reservations on Yelp but you can also put your name on the waitlist. They have two options: premium ($57.99) and supreme ($74.99). We got the former which included a good variety of meat, sushi, and appetizer options. They also have a ramen bar where you can make instant ramen but we stuck with the KBBQ and sushi. There is a 90 minute time limit where you can order 10 items per order. You have a 4 minute gap between orders when you can order again. We used our phone to pick our food and it came out pretty quickly for us. Out of all the KBBQ options my favorites were the LA galbi, beef bulgogi, and wagyu ribeye. Out of all the sushi options my favorites were the yuzu yellowtail, crispy rice spicy tuna, and eel. Even though you can get the best of both worlds, it did feel a little weird eating salty hot meat followed by the more subtle cold fish. One thing I liked to do was to eat the sushi while the meat was cooking to give myself a break. The supreme option had things like lobster tail and blue crab but the premium option was sufficient for our needs. Our first time here with hubby and our sis and our bro. Enjoyed it! Love it, everything so delicious. Our main waiter Johnoson great service, well all the waiters were all great too and Ondre also awesome and he is in one of the pictures. Gogi Nori is one of the better all you can eat spots I've been to. The quality really stands out compared to typical AYCE places. The sushi tasted fresh and they actually serve real wasabi, which is a huge plus and not something you see often. The meats were just as impressive. You can tell they use premium cuts, and the wagyu had great marbling and flavor. Everything cooked well and didn't feel overly greasy or low quality like some other KBBQ spots. What also made a difference is that it's family owned, and you can feel that there's real care put into the restaurant. Service was attentive and the overall experience felt more elevated than your usual all you can eat. We came on a Thursday at 4pm and it was really empty, there was probably only two other customers there. Tiffany was one of the managers who helped us order and get to know the menu. She was so sweet and gave a small tour of the place since it just opened 3 weeks ago. My favorite part was the ramen bar!! Such a nice touch and definitely unique for a KBBQ. I'm a pretty simple eater so I didn't order any of the marinated meats (I also have trust issues of them being too sweet). The side dishes were really good and felt fresh (not old). We ordered the beef tongue, beef belly, brisket, and pork jowl. We also got some sushi and carpaccio which were pretty good quality. We got the basic dinner menu AYCE and it was still really good. Gogi Nori in Irvine is a solid, middle of the road spot that gets the job done if you're craving Korean BBQ without too many frills. The quality of the meat was decent, the beef belly was our favorite. It hit that baseline of what you'd expect and the sushi was good, (seared salmon and tuna) however for the crispy rice the rice its self was not very crispy at all. Service was also pretty average. The staff was attentive enough to keep things moving, but there wasn't anything especially memorable about the experience. The Beef Quality is absolutely sensational! But the key is you gotta order from the supreme tier menu to get the best cuts of BEEF! It's all about the beef. The pork and chicken choices are like other places. But the Beef Quality, the marbling of the prime wood age Galbi, prime short ribs and boneless short rib is truly perfection. Plus the grill plates that are used, makes the meat extra tasty. You can be distracted with all the sides and appetizers like sushi nachos, gyoza, corn cheese, steamed egg but nothing beats the beef selection. The perfect pairing is the ramen bar or the kimchi fried rice. Btw, the table side brisket sauce is sooooo good and picked onions and radishes inside, sooo delicious. There is also this one time order of sushi omakase. If you eat that, you will not return to the regular sushi menu. The quality of the nigiri will absolutely melt in your mouth that filled with freshness and deliciousness. It's soooo good. A fun new spot for kbbq and sushi. We happened to go during their soft opening. There are claw machines at the entryway which is a good way to stay entertained if you're waiting for a table. The staff are really friendly and we were able to be seated within a couple of minutes. Onder was the main person who was helping us and he frequently came to our table to make sure we had everything that we needed. We looked up the menu ahead of time to decide which tier we wanted and there is a QR code on each table that's used to order from. The food comes out fairly quickly upon order submission. Since it was a soft opening, the staff were still working on the table numbers and we received some things that we didn't order, but we were able to have it sent to the correct table. The quality of the meat is good and I really enjoyed everything that we ordered. The crispy rice had a very generous amount of fish, but the rice itself was more chewy than crispy. Visited during their soft opening, so I cannot review their logistics on a typical busy day/night, but starting with service? Top notch. Every time someone passed by, they checked on me. Food came out promptly and used plates were removed almost immediately. Inside seems to be a small step up from the previous JBBQ establishment. Still clean. Same lay out. The essence and spirit of Islands still comes through with their benches. Ventilation is a huge step up though. The Japanese style claw games outside are a nice touch should this place get busy...the Squid Game Soju statues are also hilariously amazing. Order from your phone after the server has entered a PIN. I kind of like this over a standard tablet at the table. Though some may not enjoy this. What happens if my phone's battery is dying? Something I hope they've thought about. Food wise is pretty standard at the lunch special, with a lot of pros, and a few cons. The cuts were all really good except the Wagyu Brisket. Something about the cut just made it tougher than normal, almost like they were cut with the grain, but it wasn't. Beef Belly was the best item, with some of the best marbling; amazing quality. It's also nice to have pork jowl with the lower tier. Sushi was pretty good. I don't think its amazing quality, but it also wasn't the worst I've had. I think the 3 pieces per order is kind of a let down, but I can see why they did it for logistics. I will say, they need to figure out the Crispy Rice situation. Mine had stale rice, like they fried the rice yesterday, then offered it today after being in the fridge. If that's the case (for logistics) they probably need to scrap the item. it was NOT good. Kizumi available at the middle "premium" tier and above, but at a charge for the lunch special. Appetizers/sides across the board were pretty good. Although, when I think of Korean Fried Chicken, I don't think of Soy Garlic Karaage. So it's boneless, but its still pretty good and fresh. Jalapeno poppers were a surprise. Japchae and steamed egg were decent. Banchan offering was also just mid. Sprinkle some of that salt and pepper on the Mac Salad; you'll thank me. They have Ramyun bar, but I was told that it was only with the premium.... which makes sense given I DON'T WANT RAMYUN if I'm dropping $60+. All in all this place has a lot of potential and I wish them luck. I would honestly love to give them a chance at the Supreme Tier to compare and contrast with their competitors (both JBBQ and KBBQ), but we'll have to see if I can find someone to go with. I was a little bummed I never got to try the previous restaurant here especially for comparison, but Gogi Nori is quite a special spot. In one word: wow. Top-tier AYCE Korean BBQ and sushi is a tough combo to execute, but Gogi Nori pulls it off. A few of the side dishes fell flat for us, but honestly, they were completely overshadowed by the main attractions. The quality of the meats and sushi alone makes this place worth the visit. My wife and I usually hesitate to spend this much on AYCE, but if you love KBBQ and sushi, you owe it to yourself to try it at least once. The space is massive for a KBBQ spot, service was stellar, and the menu is loaded with options. Don't forget your Thanksgiving pants! We had an unforgettable experience at Gogi Nori thanks to our server, Onder. Super friendly and helpful throughout the night. Since they're still in soft opening, there were no physical menus yet for the table. Ordering was done via QR code on your phone. Some items didn't have pictures yet, but that'll likely improve over time. We started with the premium menu, but after Onder shared some background on the restaurant, we decided to go all-in on the supreme menu, and we're very glad we did. The supreme tier adds on: Lamb steak Lobster tail (grill-it-yourself or lobster roll) Prime wood-aged galbi (hands down my favorite) Prime hand-cut short rib Prime boneless short rib Wagyu rib cap Omakase I never bother with marinated meats. You gotta go with fresh cuts + dipping sauces, and they had all the essentials: a spicy sauce, a soy-based "brisket sauce," and salt/pepper (with sesame oil). I was especially excited to see ggot sal available - absolute top-tier, unmarinated beef. Every cut we tried was beautifully marbled and melt-in-your-mouth tender. Not a single miss. The sushi held its own too. At this quality level, the higher price point makes sense. I did notice the rice portions were a bit heavier than usual, but they offer no-rice options as well. Our favorite was the truffle salmon blue crab. Definitely a must-order if you enjoy blue crab. We actually hit a wall before we could try everything we wanted. There were still plenty of items left for us to try. Too bad this place wasn't around before when I could eat twice as much. One unique touch: they have a self-serve ramen and coffee station. I've never seen ramen offered like that in a restaurant before, which was pretty cool. There's a decent variety to choose from. No dessert options yet (hopefully coming later), so yes... we ended up having ramen for dessert. Everyone was very attentive, but no one really explained how anything worked so we sorta just figured it out on our own. Scan the QR code, we guessed the password, and order from your phone. I visited Gogi Nori today, a fairly new sushi and BBQ restaurant, today around 12:30 PM on Thursday for lunch. They offer three different options, including Premium and Lunch. I chose the Lunch option. The sushi was okay, but each order was limited to about five pieces at a time. In my opinion, it was decent, but compared with a true dedicated sushi restaurant, the quality was a bit lower. As for the Korean BBQ meats, they were average as well. When I was there, the restaurant was not very crowded, with only around eight tables occupied. The interior itself was fine, mainly because the restaurant seems to have taken over the space from a sushi restaurant that had recently closed. However, I would rate the overall dining environment lower because I kept seeing employees walking in and out of the front entrance to smoke. Since many customers could clearly see that from inside, it did not feel very pleasant or polished. After tax and an 18% tip, the total came to about $44 for lunch. For that price, I think the value is only average. Overall, I would give it 3 stars. read more

I'm definitely not a KBBQ expert but I know when something tastes good, and this place delivered. The location is what lured me in as it's right in my backyard. The wait wasn't hours long which is rare because if you've ever tried to get KBBQ in Irvine you know it can be a competitive sport, and that is usually what deters me from even going, but the staff were attentive and had things in check. The meats were fresh and marinated, but the sushi was what stole the show for me. The salmon and albacore melted in my mouth. Talk about best of both worlds. By accident we tried this place in their grand opening. When you walk in you are met with a fun looking lobby with a few game machines and a mirrored chair shaped like a hand, however when you walk past and through the restaurant it has a totally different vibe which is very traditional with a big sushi bar. Not sure the contrast works very well. It was very crowded and the place bustling. We had reservations and were sat almost right away. The system of ordering is via QR code, but the first waiter said we can order through him or the code. We had multiple waiters come by our table to check on us and we were not sure who our waiter was. At one point we had two waiters ask us the same set of questions within a minute of one another. In fact they nearly collided when one was walking away and one was approaching. At one point one of the waiters approached and asked if we needed anything and we asked for another round and were told to do it using the QR code. Not sure what the point of asking us if we needed anything if we were going to be told to do it ourselves. It is an All You Can Eat place. There were no options for regular menu ordering. We were unaware of this when we made our reservation. I typically don't like the AYCE because I always over eat and feel bad after. Nevertheless, we were there so we went for it. The food came out quickly once we ordered except for the sushi. Which frankly was not very good and was very slow. We were told they were backed up in sushi. The KBBQ was ok, not bad, just ok. Same with the Bon Chon, just ok. This place has some work to do. If this was an established place I probably wouldn't go back as there are so many similar better options around, but given they are new I might give it another try to see if they worked out the issues. read more

Went for the grand opening on Saturday and it was a bittersweet experience. As a former server sometimes I know I can be a harsh critic so do with that what you will - I felt that for all the promotions via social media the execution the day of fell a little flat and as a result left people a bit disappointed with their experience. I feel people should know that on the weekends they ONLY offer two options: 1 at $58 per person and the other at $75 per person. Not sure if it's Friday - Sunday or just Saturday and Sunday but I feel people should be made aware. Felt like a bit of a bait and switch to come in and find out those are the only two options - a little steep in general but especially for the quality of the meat - I mirror the sentiment of other reviewers who've mentioned the meat quality and thinness (it really stuck to / melted into the grill). Sushi was good and the yellow tail crispy rice was good but other varieties of the crispy rice that came out were ice cold making it not taste very good. I feel they could've used one or two more servers as well. Our server would tell us about courses / options or other things and then immediately walk away to attend to something else before we could order or ask any clarifying questions. With one or two more servers it would've been a more seamless experience. Thankfully the other party I was dinning with had no issue speaking up and asking for promos /games that were advertised as a part of the grand opening celebration. Otherwise I don't think we wouldn't have received any of it. I think they should still offer the lunch special option on the weekends so that you're not paying $60-$75 for a lunch (before tip & tax). Don't know that I'll be back - too much prompting / follow up required by the customer to get what's promised. When it's one thing fine but when it's a handful things throughout your meal and then again at the end with the bill - it's frustrating to have to continually speak up to get something corrected. I visited during their soft opening to try the lunch special, and it seriously exceeded expectations. They offer three tiers--Lunch Special ($34.99), Premium ($57.99), and Supreme ($74.99)--and even at the base level, the quality was impressive. While the lunch menu has a more limited meat selection, everything I had was fresh, tender, and full of flavor. The real standout, though, was the sushi. Absolutely phenomenal. You can tell their sushi chef is highly skilled...every piece was beautifully prepared, incredibly fresh, and thoughtfully balanced. The squid was next-level fresh (honestly, chef's kiss), and the rice was perfectly seasoned with just the right amount in each bite. It's rare to find sushi this well-executed. This is truly an Asian-approved gem. There are a few minor kinks to work out, which is expected during a soft opening. Each round of orders took about 15 minutes even during a quieter lunch hour, and there were a couple of mix-ups with dishes being delivered to the wrong table. The floor was also slightly sticky in spots. That said, the food quality alone makes this place absolutely worth it. Can have" Korean BBQ and Sushi together? And all you can eat????-- what a great idea! We went there for lunch ($34.99 per person) because I was curious about trying both Korean BBQ and sushi in one place. The restaurant was in its soft opening stage, so it wasn't too busy. Our server, Ixhwa, did a great job promoting the restaurant and asked for our honest feedback when we paid the bill. We really enjoyed the Hangjeong Pork Jowl and Cajun Shrimp (the smaller-than-expected) -- both were tasty! That said, here's our honest opinion: 1. For lunch, the Korean BBQ meat selection felt a bit limited compared to other places. The Wagyu Brisket was inconsistent -- sometimes cut thick, sometimes thin, and the fat marbling varied a lot. 2. The sushi was sliced too thin, and even with the brown sauce on top, the fish itself was a bit dry. 3. Ordering food only through a QR code might not be convenient for everyone, especially older guests who aren't familiar with using smartphones at the table. 4. According to the menu I found online, Shrimp & Vegetable Tempura was listed as a lunch appetizer; however, when I actually visited, I was told that tempura is not available during lunch hours. Usually, people try a place for lunch and, if it's good, come back for dinner. For that reason, I wouldn't come back for dinner (Supreme- $74.99/person, Premium $57.99/person) unless they really serve foods stalely (like food photos on their online menu- look sooooo great!) for the quality of foods in the future. I really like the concept of having Korean BBQ and sushi together, but if the quality turns out lower than restaurants that focus only on ONE -- either all you can eat; BBQ, sushi, or Shabu Shabu -- then it's hard to see a real advantage in combining the two. Ramen station was cool but I am not sure if that was also included for the lunch as well. New future HOT spot! So many choices!!! My group arrived during their soft opening, was told their grand opening was next week, Sat 3/28. Well, I guess we couldn't wait! The ambiance is fun, casual, plays loud music and great for large parties, families and dates. It was my bf's brother's birthday at the time, and we ordered off the Premium tier. The Supreme tier will get you higher graded meat, lobster tails & they offer Omakase style of sushi. We actually had a really good meal off the premium menu, we had brisket, beef tongue, carpaccio sushi, steak, soju, etc. The menu had SO many choices, we couldn't go through all of them. We came in on a weekday night and the service was very prompt and friendly. The atmosphere is my would upbeat music. We chose the premium menu and there are so many meat options, sushi and appetizer items to choose from. We enjoyed the food and love the varieties, especially when they're all delicious. Gigi Nori is a 10 out of 10 and easily my new favorite Korean BBQ spot. Our favorite has always been brisket and beef belly but this time we tried a variety of new meats we've never had before and every single one was incredible. The quality is on another level, super tender, clean, and flavorful, and cooking it fresh on the grill just makes it better. My favorite move is wrapping the meat in rice paper and dunking it in their brisket sauce which is honestly perfect, and they keep the rice and rice paper coming nonstop. The sushi really stood out and took the whole experience up another level, super fresh. The kimchi rice was great, and the edamame was my favorite. The whole table was stacked with food including sushi, soups, and drinks, and the built in grill made everything feel smooth and premium.
