We walked in and were greeted with a smile. For some reason, I decided to speak to the cashier completely in Armenian. Poor guy looked so lost and confused, but he tried his best to hold back his laughter and just went along with it like he understood everything I was saying! We ended up getting a chocolate chip cookie and a crispy toffee cookie, and both were phenomenal. After paying, I suddenly switched to perfect English and said, "Thank you so much for all your help! I really appreciate it. Have a great day!" The look of shock and confusion on his face was priceless. That was exactly the reaction I was hoping for, so mission accomplished! He was such a good sport and clearly had a great sense of humor. We had a good laugh, the cookies were delicious, and we'll definitely be back to try more desserts! read more

I want to start by saying the people and the pastries are delightful they really are. Ambiance is average. The issue is the breakfast... is not great. The shakshuka tastes like tomato soup. The bread is over buttered etc.. etc.. Come for pastries and coffee! But not breakfast unless they fix it. read more

Goat Tree is one of those Santa Barbara spots we've been coming back to for years. It's consistently great--good food, great drinks, and wonderful service. We especially enjoy sitting outside. It has a really nice, relaxed atmosphere where you can hang out, enjoy your meal, and not feel rushed. It's a great spot for breakfast or lunch, whether you're a local or just visiting Lower State Street. We've had many good experiences here over the years, and it continues to be a place we enjoy coming back to. Definitely recommend Goat Tree if you get the chance! read more

Great location to grab a bite on the way to our from the train station. Menu offers a good variety of protein meals, salads and pastries. You can order to go at the counter or sit down inside or on their patio. The hostess and wait staff are friendly and the place is clean. 4/5 stars because no one came to take my order until the hostess noticed and alerted the waiter, he brought me a latte instead of the OJ I ordered, never offered water and I had to ask the hostess to get my check and a to go box as the waiter never came back to check on me. This time I got the protein fritatta which I recommend (see pic) with a side of bacon. read more

They have healthy and delicious options here for vegetarians like the vegetarian spaghetti and hummus plate . The spaghetti is really flavorful and doesn't need any add ons . They also have cute alcoholic drink options for a group of friends . They served water immediately without asking which seems rare nowadays at many restaurants . They have outdoor and indoor seating . If the weather is good the outside option is great . They also sell desserts and coffee which is a great option at the end of the meal . read more

Came here for my friend's birthday and it did NOT disappoint. The croissant? 10/10. Flaky, buttery, melts in your mouth... like wow. We took a couple shots to celebrate and the whole vibe just felt right. Super cute spot, great energy, and the service was on point. Perfect for a chill celebration or cute catch-up. After a retreatful Sunday in Santa Barbara, we stopped by Goat Tree. The vibe was peaceful, clean, quiet, and perfect for conversation.service was great helped us get our order to-go and tried both the club sandwich and the ahi tuna sandwich. The club was fantastic thick bacon, ripe tomatoes, and creamy avocado on sourdough. The tuna sandwich was equally delicious seared ahi, fresh avocado, and a flavorful aioli. We topped it off with a jumbo chocolate chip cookie from their tempting pastry case. Next time, we'll definitely return for brunch read more

This maybe a first. A review of a place we didn't eat at. We were doing a wine tasting at the Society in the Hotel Californian and ordered a charcuterie board. At one point the hostess at the winery said she was going to check on our board order. I didn't see where she went but a few moments later saw her crossing the street with our board order. When asked where she went she told us that Goat Tree makes their boards for them. Had to be one of the best boards we've ordered at a winery. It had a little of everything and was freshly put together on order. If you're at the Society order one of the Goats boards. You won't be sorry. read more

Stopped in for coffee and a cookie. I think it's part of Hotel California which is nice. There's a cafe on one side where it offers the hot drinks and baked goods. And then you have the restaurant where both inside and outside patio seating. Beautifully decorated which enhances the whole place. Open vibe, perfect beachy experience. Didn't have a meal on site but have had numerous plates delivered to the tasting room across the street. Coffee, basic but good. They did have a good selections on the baked goods and pastries. Don't know if it's made on site or delivered from Somewhere else but the cookie was excellent. White chocolate with blueberry. Nice and chunky and perfect. read more

I was ok with passing this for burger week bc 3rd window has the best smash burger, but since their burger week burger was delicious last year, we decided to try it again (diff burger this year). The angus beef patty had a nice meaty flavor and it had a really nice cheese pull. The caramelized onion and bread and butter pickle added a little sweetness to it. This burger is as good as 3rd window and I highly recommend trying it out! read more

Like many diners have said, service is the biggest issue here. The staffing could be improved because why are there three hostesses but we could barely get our order taken or water filled. Food was ok, skip the frittata, you could make a better one at home. I came here before and had a great experience so if they worked on staffing the restaurant properly it could be turned around in no time. read more

Today we decided to head to the zoo and wanted to get a bite to eat before we went. The Goat Tree is a must visit! We were seated outside and enjoyed people watching while eating our meal. Thank you GOAT Tree! We will be back. read more

Food came out cold after a long wait. My egg sandwich was ice cold, and the fries were cold as well. The waitress never checked on our table to see if we needed anything or if the food was okay. Our burgers and fries were served without ketchup, and even after asking for it, it was never brought to us. We mentioned our concerns to another waiter, who told us to bring it up to the manager, but no manager ever came by to address the issue or try to make things right. Ironically, the only time anyone checked on our table was to ask if we wanted another round of drinks. It felt like selling more drinks was a bigger priority than customer service or making sure the food was served properly. Overall, the food quality and service were very disappointing, and the experience did not meet expectations. read more

The Goat Tree, in Santa Barbara, is one of my favorite places to start, or finish my train ride to or from the San Fernando Valley. They have spectacular desserts and generally, before I catch the train back, I try to stop here after having lunch somewhere else, for a pastry to sweeten my tooth and go back home. But sometimes, if I have more time, I stop here for a sweet breakfast, which would also be a pastry or fruit, maybe a croissant. This place is amazing, every time I come here the selections are different. How can that be? The pastry chef has to be brilliant. As you know, the Goat Tree, is attached to, The Californian, a very high end hotel on State Street in Santa Barbara. Wish I had the bucks to stay here sometime, savor the in house dining . Oh well, hopefully on another day, or more realistically, in another life. read more

Have been here quite a few times and love the beautiful patio setting and the food. It was disappointing this time on my birthday to sit for quite a while no menus or water and we finally grabbed our own menus. When the server did arrive she was nice and got everything right. I got the chia parfait with fresh fruit that I have loved here before but this time instead of being in a ceramic bowl it was in a clear plastic to go cup like at a take out counter at Starbucks. What? Not very birthday lunch vibes. My cappuccino was very good though and did arrive in a ceramic cup with saucer. Thank goodness that wasn't in a to go cup! Strongly recommend going back to regular bowls for the chia parfait and up level the service a bit. Otherwise great spot and have always been happy with it. read more

Visited this place with some friends during my bachelorette. Their restaurant is beautifully designed and very picture worthy . Their food on the other hand was very average in my opinion and service needed work as it was a bit slow. I got the pancakes and it was too sweet so I was unable to eat it. We also were frustrated towards the end as the bill could only be split into two instead of four which was odd as well. read more

Another Good pick for brunch place in SB. My hubby ordered smoked Salmon toast which is loaded with smoke salmon. I ordered frittata and it was the winner among the 4 orders, not salty and on the healthy side( mushroom and cheese). My sister ordered Avocado toast, with over easy eggs and thick slices of bacon. My bro - in -law( doc Jp) ordered iconic breakfast comes with drip coffee, thick bacon slices , potatoes and sourdough bread. Love the potatoes , it's creamy. Hector was one of our servers. They are fast. our meal was served with 4 different servers at one time, so our food came together. We ordered all different food to be able to try everything. The bacon as usual was on the salty side but crunchy and meaty. Nice sitting inside and outside the restaurant, we were given a choice of with sun or no sun, as filipinos we choose no sun( under the umbrella. This place is a nice hangout place to people watch. We arrived on time before the crowd started.. read more

This was honestly one of the strangest dining experiences I've had in a while. From the moment we sat down, the entire place seemed poorly managed. Service moved at an unbelievably slow pace. You could tell the problems weren't isolated to our table either. Plates were piling up in the kitchen window while customers sat waiting endlessly, and several diners eventually gave up and walked out. Servers would occasionally check in, but nothing ever followed through. We repeatedly asked for things, got reassured they'd handle it, and then never saw them again. The food was disappointing. I understand that menu prices are pricier due to you being so close to the beach but come on. Small menu means delicious fresh food not hospital food. read more

The servers are kind and helpful. The outdoor seating beside the palm trees is beautiful - like a Mediterranean plaza. Teas are ok, hot chocolate is good. The salmon toast is a winner with its pickled onions and alfalfa sprouts. The protein frittata was a bit plain and overcooked. The turkey sandwich was quite good, with a light honey mustard dressing. The desserts are beautiful, and their looks exceed their flavors. read more

After making reservation for a small birthday breakfast. We arrived and was seated. We sat for 20mins and watch as guest were seated and served and yet we were still not offered a glass of water. Frustrated by the display of horrible customer service, we stood up to leave and was finally approached by someone that wasn't even our server or host. As we vacated Goat Tree restaurant, we voiced our dissatisfaction to an unapologetic host. The restaurant wasn't even busy during this time. The service was inexcusable. read more

Walked up and asked to be added to the waitlist. They said 20 minutes. 40 minutes later we were 1st on the list and went to check in. They would not seat us because "the kitchen was backed up". Looking around outside not a single table had food. One table got up and left because they had been waiting so long and no server came to take their order. I heard someone say they'd been waiting for almost 2 hours to get seated/served. Meanwhile the hostess is still telling people the wait is 20 minutes. What really killed it is they had been telling people they can't sit if they're ordering takeaway, and then sat someone who just walked up while we've been standing there for an hour. We ended up deciding to leave because it took SO LONG, and we figured even if they did seat us we'd be waiting another hour for food, so we went to Finneys across the street and were immediately seated and served. This place was a disaster and kinda ruined our last day in Santa Barbara. read more

Ouch, didn't sit down for this, got there we were getting seated right away then this lady comes out asking for our name when there was no one else waiting, she put us on a list and pushed us out with her words. We originally planned to try Jeannine's Bakery on State Street, but with the long line (understandable during Fiesta weekend), we decided to walk over to Goat Tree - and we're so glad we did! There was no wait, and we were seated right away on the charming outdoor patio. The setting was adorable, and we lucked out with perfect weather - sunny with a light, cool breeze. The service was wonderful - special thanks to Juan for being so friendly and even offering to take our group photos! The classic breakfast plate was delicious. I swapped the potatoes for fresh fruit, and everything was just right - the sourdough toast was perfectly buttered and crisp, and the eggs and bacon were cooked to perfection. The lattes were excellent and hit the spot for all of us. Goat Tree turned out to be the perfect, relaxing brunch spot. We'd absolutely come back again! read more

Very quiet for dinner on a Thursday night. I had made a reservation but it turns out that was unnecessary- we had literally every table to choose from. Opted to sit outside by a heater just in case it got cold. The quiet atmosphere was appreciated by my date as well. We opted for a bottle of still water while we looked over the very small and very French inspired menu. She ordered the smashburger and I had the turkey sandwich with a side of fries. Be aware- the turkey sandwich is an enormous portion. This isn't a bad thing, just something to be aware of. I could only finish half. Service was okay. Servers seemed a little inexperienced but they smiled and were quite accommodating. No issues here. Overall happy with the food and dining experience. This was my first time here and it certainly won't be my last. Their brunch menu also looks intriguing- and I do love a good brunch. read more
