Have been here quite a few times and love the beautiful patio setting and the food. It was disappointing this time on my birthday to sit for quite a while no menus or water and we finally grabbed our own menus. When the server did arrive she was nice and got everything right. I got the chia parfait with fresh fruit that I have loved here before but this time instead of being in a ceramic bowl it was in a clear plastic to go cup like at a take out counter at Starbucks. What? Not very birthday lunch vibes. My cappuccino was very good though and did arrive in a ceramic cup with saucer. Thank goodness that wasn't in a to go cup! Strongly recommend going back to regular bowls for the chia parfait and up level the service a bit. Otherwise great spot and have always been happy with it. read more

This was honestly one of the strangest dining experiences I've had in a while. From the moment we sat down, the entire place seemed poorly managed. Service moved at an unbelievably slow pace. You could tell the problems weren't isolated to our table either. Plates were piling up in the kitchen window while customers sat waiting endlessly, and several diners eventually gave up and walked out. Servers would occasionally check in, but nothing ever followed through. We repeatedly asked for things, got reassured they'd handle it, and then never saw them again. The food was disappointing. Great location to grab a bite on the way to our from the train station. Menu offers a good variety of protein meals, salads and pastries. You can order to go at the counter or sit down inside or on their patio. The hostess and wait staff are friendly and the place is clean. 4/5 stars because no one came to take my order until the hostess noticed and alerted the waiter, he brought me a latte instead of the OJ I ordered, never offered water and I had to ask the hostess to get my check and a to go box as the waiter never came back to check on me. After a retreatful Sunday in Santa Barbara, we stopped by Goat Tree. The vibe was peaceful,clean, quiet, and perfect for conversation.service was great helped us get our order to-go and tried both the club sandwich and the ahi tuna sandwich. The club was fantastic thick bacon, ripe tomatoes, and creamy avocado on sourdough. The tuna sandwich was equally delicious seared ahi, fresh avocado, and a flavorful aioli. Food came out cold after a long wait. My egg sandwich was ice cold, and the fries were cold as well. The waitress never checked on our table to see if we needed anything or if the food was okay. Our burgers and fries were served without ketchup, and even after asking for it, it was never brought to us. We mentioned our concerns to another waiter, who told us to bring it up to the manager, but no manager ever came by to address the issue or try to make things right. Ironically, the only time anyone checked on our table was to ask if we wanted another round of drinks. It felt like selling more drinks was a bigger priority than customer service or making sure the food was served properly. This maybe a first. A review of a place we didn't eat at. We were doing a wine tasting at the Society in the Hotel Californian and ordered a charcuterie board. At one point the hostess at the winery said she was going to check on our board order. I didn't see where she went but a few moments later saw her crossing the street with our board order. When asked where she went she told us that Goat Tree makes their boards for them. Had to be one of the best boards we've ordered at a winery. It had a little of everything and was freshly put together on order. If you're at the Society order one of the Goats boards. You won't be sorry. read more

Stopped in for coffee and a cookie. I think it's part of Hotel California which is nice. There's a cafe on one side where it offers the hot drinks and baked goods. And then you have the restaurant where both inside and outside patio seating. Beautifully decorated which enhances the whole place. Open vibe, perfect beachy experience. Didn't have a meal on site but have had numerous plates delivered to the tasting room across the street. Coffee, basic but good. They did have a good selections on the baked goods and pastries. The Goat Tree, in Santa Barbara, is one of my favorite places to start, or finish my train ride to or from the San Fernando Valley. They have spectacular desserts and generally, before I catch the train back, I try to stop here after having lunch somewhere else, for a pastry to sweeten my tooth and go back home. But sometimes, if I have more time, I stop here for a sweet breakfast, which would also be a pastry or fruit, maybe a croissant. This place is amazing, every time I come here the selections are different. How can that be? The pastry chef has to be brilliant. As you know, the Goat Tree, is attached to, The Californian, a very high end hotel on State Street in Santa Barbara. Wish I had the bucks to stay here sometime, savor the in house dining . Walked up and asked to be added to the waitlist. They said 20 minutes. 40 minutes later we were 1st on the list and went to check in. They would not seat us because "the kitchen was backed up". Looking around outside not a single table had food. One table got up and left because they had been waiting so long and no server came to take their order. I heard someone say they'd been waiting for almost 2 hours to get seated/served. Meanwhile the hostess is still telling people the wait is 20 minutes. What really killed it is they had been telling people they can't sit if they're ordering takeaway, and then sat someone who just walked up while we've been standing there for an hour. We ended up deciding to leave because it took SO LONG, and we figured even if they did seat us we'd be waiting another hour for food, so we went to Finneys across the street and were immediately seated and served. Another Good pick for brunch place in SB. My hubby ordered smoked Salmon toast which is loaded with smoke salmon. I ordered frittata and it was the winner among the 4 orders, not salty and on the healthy side( mushroom and cheese). My sister ordered Avocado toast, with over easy eggs and thick slices of bacon. We originally planned to try Jeannine's Bakery on State Street, but with the long line (understandable during Fiesta weekend), we decided to walk over to Goat Tree - and we're so glad we did! There was no wait, and we were seated right away on the charming outdoor patio. The setting was adorable, and we lucked out with perfect weather - sunny with a light, cool breeze. Very quiet for dinner on a Thursday night. I had made a reservation but it turns out that was unnecessary- we had literally every table to choose from. Opted to sit outside by a heater just in case it got cold. The quiet atmosphere was appreciated by my date as well. We opted for a bottle of still water while we looked over the very small and very French inspired menu. She ordered the smashburger and I had the turkey sandwich with a side of fries. Be aware- the turkey sandwich is an enormous portion. This isn't a bad thing, just something to be aware of. I could only finish half. Service was okay. Servers seemed a little inexperienced but they smiled and were quite accommodating. No issues here. Overall happy with the food and dining experience. When in SB, Goat tree is always a must visit spot for me. Their coffee counter and pastry bar alone would be a fantastic reason to stop in while you walk around the beautiful state street. They also are only a few blocks from the ocean. They also have a full food menu and I personally love the vibe. They do get busy but well worth the wait. I will say, my expectations for a restaurant owned by a 5 start hotel are high (as they should be) and wow does this place disappoint! After giving up on of the breakfast, we just did some to go sandwiches and pastries today utilize our daily credit. Everything we got had to be from the day before. The avocado on my sandwich was brown, the sour cream bread was stale, the bread was dry. This was our second time staying at HC and we were hoping the food / coffee would have improved over the years, but no. It sucks to feel like you have to go here if you are staying at Hotel Californian - I don't think it's worth the price point. read more

Let's state the facts: Went here for brunch on Memorial Day. They were busy but not THAT busy. We were told the wait was 20 mins - no problem - ended up being 45 mins until we hit #1 in the open table que. Still not upset. Then we see a table get up to leave and they let the waitress know after over 20 minutes of sitting no one came up to them to take their order or even bring them water so they're leaving. I looked around and no one at the restaurant had food. Everyone was just staring at each other waiting for their food looking pissed off. Let her know we were number 1 and can we sit at the table where the people had just left. We knew if we went somewhere else on Memorial Day. there would be another wait. She said the kitchen is backed up so I can't sit you yet - no idea what that means. Hire people who understand customer service. Then literally two minutes later this group of people goes up to the host and says we're ordering food to go. Can we sit at the open table while we wait - the answer should've been no - but she let them sit and I thought I was gonna lose my mind. I asked her to grab the manager so we could ask what was going on and figure out if we should leave. The manager goes over the table of to go orders thinking it was us lol My husband and I looked at each other just as another table gets up and walks out not having eaten anything and we're like let's get out of this dumpster fire. We went across the street which was not the type of food that we wanted, but we were so hungry at this point and there was no wait even though they were busy and they got us our food within 15 minutes. Note to this restaurant: Please stop putting 18 YOs at the host table who don't know what they are doing. They were actively handing out menus to people and telling them it was a 20 minute wait when they should have stopped adding people to the reservation list altogether because their kitchen was backed up and they couldn't even sit us after an hour. It was being poorly managed. Waiting for that long I think we saw 1 waiter walk through the entire time - egregious lack of know how and customer support - if I was the manager there everyone would be getting a new job or maybe they need a new manager. read more

Only got our waters after food came out, despite asking politely for it first. The cloth napkin smelled funny. Got the shakshuka (decent but not enough bread) and lemon ricotta pancakes (no lemon flavor and I'm pretty sure the bacon came from Costco). Bottom line: overall confusion and the prices are twice what they should be My wife and I came here for a late Valentine's Day dinner out, hoping for some good food and a little quiet romance. We arrived and stood at the kiosk for about 15 minutes with not a word from anyone working. It looks like there was only one girl working, and she was running back-and-forth doing what looked like mostly everything. Eventually, she came by and seated us and took our order. The first thing that popped out to me is that the prices are outrageous. I know this is the second block of State Street but $30 for a bowl of pasta is a lot even for Funk zone. The pasta was OK, but for that much money, there should be quite a lot more pork belly that was in there, there was very very little. We also ordered the burger, which was pretty good, but not for $20. The entire time we were having our dinner, people were walking in the door and standing at the kiosk and leaving. Or coming in the side door and just sitting down. So unsure this place is supposed to be a walk up restaurant, or sit down restaurant... The front door is periodically closed and then reopened, all the while the one girl is handling all of the tables, and I felt really badly for her. When I walked to the back to find the bathroom, the place was messy and appeared to be in disarray.
