This centralized gathering hub brings me back to camps and baggy pants and looney tunes shirts, breakdancing, Massive Monkey and free food. Every time I walk by the big hall by the entrance I am engulfed with memories of parties and food. I can smell the lumpia and pancit, barbacoa, Ezell's, Costco pizza, and home made ribs bought from Viet Wa and smoked. The ever lasting smell of Red Apple sides and Delite bakery empanadas and pastries further add to the memories. I remember randomly being invited to a Nigerian celebration and ate fufu balls, fish, and stews. Delicious! I appreciate the multigenerational care at Jefferson. It's a center where no one goes hungry, community looks after one another, and preschoolers to the ARC programs are supported. Yesler is a close second in Seattle for CC and Chinatown is third. Each has a special place in my heart and I appreciate everyone at Parks.

They also have a lot of gear you can purchase on site which is always very convenient. If you haven't fenced before this is a great place to start and you get a lot of real fencing bouts. Everyone is nervous in the intro class and built confidence over time so if that's holding you back I'd consider ignoring that. My only gripe is that the classes themselves are somewhat short for me. Warm up, gearing up, taking equipment off, etc can eat up time so I would have liked to see 1.5 hrs classes to amortize the necessary overhead.

I can feel confident that after a Retrofit class I am stronger and less prone to injury in my normal life. There is no body shaming or pressure to look a certain way. The pricing is great, and there's no hidden fees or confusing contracts. No annual fee, processing fee, initiation fees, or equipment fees like big box gyms charge. Here you pay for the class, you take the class. The owner, Travis, gives great personal attention and feedback during classes, and keeps things entertaining so classes are fun instead of a chore. This is located 1 block west of Queen Anne Ave N on top of the hill and the building south of McClure Middle (Jr. High when I went) School and is easily mistaken as part of the school. I learned soccer at the play field, Little League Baseball, and basketball in the gym. I learned to swim next door at the QA Aquatic Center. There is an outdoor playground, 3 baseball diamonds, and playfields (soccer usually). Locals call the playfield "Big Howe" although there is a sign on QACC that says "West Queen Anne Field House." Anybody who lives on QA that hasn't used QACC didn't grow up here. Lots of activities for all ages from toddlers to seniors. They have art classes, exercise, dance, martial arts, serve meals, etc... My kid attends the Fresh Air Preschool here and the Director has a Montessori certificate. 1 teacher per eight students and it's very affordable. They have MWF or TuTh. If they had a hotel here the Village People would've made a song: "It's fun to play at the QACC!"
