I accidentally stayed past closing time one night and triggered the alarm. I fully accept responsibility for that mistake. [[HIGHLIGHT]]What disappointed me was how management handled it. After multiple unanswered emails and discovering that my access code had already been deactivated, I had to call Chris myself.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]During the call, he came across as dismissive, interrupted me repeatedly, and seemed more interested in lecturing than having a conversation.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My access was revoked and my membership was canceled without any warning. I was also told I might be charged alarm-related fees, but no amount or documentation was provided. Rules should be enforced, but customers should also be treated with respect. I travel for work and have been to so many gyms. Urban Playground has definitely been a favorite of mine! It's small but has everything you need and then some. Feels spacious and it's never so crowded you have to wait around for machines. It's always super clean, even the bathrooms always smell good. And [[HIGHLIGHT]]the people that come here are respectful enough to actually re-rack their weights! It's keypad entry, let yourself in. They don't have much staff but the owner is there frequently and is very helpful. I've been a member since February and I'm a big fan of Urban Playground. I've been missing some workouts due to the hellish parking situation at the Seattle Bouldering Project and wanted somewhere close by to do weight training. Pros: (+) Very very clean gym with everyone wiping down equipment after use with a cleaning spray and the staff rotates out the rags used for wiping. -It's a small detail that makes a huge difference in contrast to a recent experience at a Portland 24 Hour Fitness where no one wiped down anything down and the benches were polished shiny and slick from the sweaty backs of everyone using it, so I greatly appreciate how clean the gym is. (+) Always a stack of sweat towels ready to use, another nice touch. (+) Price is very reasonable considering memberships like at SBP keeps going up and up. (+) Has the equipment I use most frequently: Bar bench, Lat Row/Pull, Hip abductors, squat racks with a platform, dips and pull up areas, dumbbell racks and benches. (+) Never too packed inside! (+) Walkable (+) Cafetal Quilombo next door serves up amazing food for afterwards. Cons: (-) Only a minor con, but it does get slightly toasty inside, especially when one is doing cardio on the treadmill or Stairmaster. I did cancel my membership temporarily due to getting into a new cycling hobby and cancelling was pretty easy. I'll be back in Fall! read more

Short review: this place is frustration free, clean, not crowded, new equipment and best off all: commitment free monthly dues & no imitation fees. All online, no annoying front desk to check into. Overview: recently moved to west Seattle and was appalled by the gym options. Anytime was extremely overpriced. LA Fitness was disgusting and WSHC was outdated. Saw that this was only a short drive (right on and off the bridge). Conveniently located and lots of parking either on the street or covered retail. Gym: was not crowded the first time I went. Maybe about 10 people. Fantastic rogue and matrix equipment. There are 3 power racks and all were free when I was there for over an hour. Nice bumper plates and everything was well organized. I can tell the patrons give a damn because they wiped things down and put equipment back where they found it. It's much bigger than it looks online and has a great layout. Lots of cardio machines, multiple spots to do free weights and 2 grassy functional fitness type area to do HIIT, stretch or CrossFit style movements. What blew me away was how clean this facility is. Even the bathrooms were spotless. Extremely happy with my new gym! read more

Wonderful local gym with all amenities. Only thing I may have liked was a rowing machine. I am new to gyms and got a trainer from the gym (Tybald) who I had six sessions with and was excellent and taught me the basics of strength training. This is a great gym. The equipment is practically new. It is always clean. It was never too full of people, and we would go during peak hours. My only complaint is the parking. We went to the Mount Baker location that does not have any reserved parking for the gym. I believe the south Seattle location has its own parking lot. The Mount baker location is not in the best area, with Rainier Ave. only a block away. We never had any problems, but it did worry me that we had to park our car on the street, mostly at night since that was when we were normally able to go to the gym. read more

I have absolutely no complaints about the gym itself. It does get busy sometimes right after work since it's not a large place and so I just try to go during off peak times. Urban Playground is a great, clean gym in the Beacon Hill neighborhood. There are towels & lockers available, plenty of free street parking, and pretty much all of the equipment you would need for a solid workout. It's rarely packed/too busy and other members are friendly & considerate. Would definitely recommend joining this gym if you're looking for one in the area. read more

Clean, modern, high-end gym. I was so excited to find a gym like this near Columbia City. Everything is super nice and the space is well-utilized. There is plenty of equipment including free weights, machines, and cardio. There is also a nice turf area for stretching, yoga, or floor exercises. I never have any issues with equipment availability. During COVID, the gym has done a wonderful job staying super clean and making sure members are following their guidelines. Urban playground is a great gym. The equipment is always clean and everything is always easy to find. Though the facility is small, they make great use of the space with a large variety of machines and two open turf areas. As an introvert, I appreciated the code access system and the politeness of the other gym goers. The urban playground team makes it simple and easy to both start and cancel a membership, which was a huge bonus for me as I like to workout in the gym during the winter season but prefer to get my exercise outside during the summer. Their monthly and 6 month memberships work great for this. Safe to say I will be back come winter! read more

Small private gym, very clean! There's towels and disinfectant bottles all over the gym. The gym also provides towels for members to use. It doesn't have a sauna or showers because it's a neighborhood gym, most people live in the area. I liked that this gym was never crowded, pretty quiet, everybody's in their zone. You can find almost (!) all gym equipment here except for the calf raise machine, leg extension, or hack squat. There's only one stairmaster When I do cardio on the stairmaster, I usually do so for about 25-30 minutes so this could be an issue if more than one person wants to use it. I do like that there are two squat racks with a platform for deadlifts. There are not enough 45lb plates however. There are only (4) 45lb plates for the leg press (2 for each side max). I had to take the two plates from the bench press and two more from one of the squat racks. This could be an issue as well if there is someone using the bench and squat rack at the same time. You wouldn't be able to do more on the leg press. So that brings me to who this gym might be a good fit for? This gym is good if you're just looking to stay healthy and want to tone at the gym. This gym might not be a good fit if you're wanting to lift heavier. Individual monthly membership is $70 - is it worth the price? Eh, I guess so. It's convenient. read more

Excellent neighborhood gym. I was in town for two months and I'm really pleased I stayed right around the corner. Always clean, hardly ever busy, towels provided (they were always plentiful) and sign-up was all done online after which, 30 mins later, I had a code emailed to me to start enjoying the facilities. Have been so desperate for a decent workout that I impulsively committed to this gym (conveniently super close to my house) and I can safely say it was a great decision. Amidst this difficult time, I'm so happy that this gym prioritizes cleanliness over anything. They are definitely adhering to social distancing guidelines and taking preventatives measures for everyone's safety. Paper towels and surface cleaner spray bottles are readily available after the usage of each machine and often I'll see the business owners come in to sanitize every surface. Aside from that, it is so refreshing to have access to such new equipment. It truly makes it feel like it's worth my money. (P.S. - I've never used a machine that can do both hip abductions AND adductions!!) Initially I thought the space would be too small for me, it's much smaller than what I'm used to, but having used it consistently it really hasn't been much of an issue, surprisingly. This is a very solid gym, though I wish they had a locker room :) read more
