Most amazing, dynamic, diverse, and fun fitness class I've ever taken!!! And I've taken a lot - from spin class to yoga, to personal trainers to rock climbing guides. Everyday is unique, focusing on different muscles and techniques, while maintaing a common core set of exercises and activities in each class, so you can build upon previous sessions and track your progress. Plus, it's held in a completely relaxed, humble, inviting, and non-intimidating environment. The coaches and leaders are very knowledgeable and more than willing, and motivated, to help people out on an individual basis (this especially applies to me - someone who routinely needs some extra explaining). I'm also an avid rock climber, and there are a lot of similarities between boxing and rock climbing: balance, coordination, footwork, dynamic movements, etc. Ever since joing Cappy's, my rock climbing game has completely changed for the better! Not to mention, my wife loves my new 'boxer body!" 100% HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

After moving to Seattle, I'd been searching for a new go-to workout and I found it at Cappy's Boxing Gym! I love how simple and unpretentious everything is here: the sign-in sheet is literally a piece of paper, although yes, they are on ClassPass and they accept credit cards. The studio has a very scrappy feel to it and is just a big, open space with very few equipments around the perimeter. It's located in a semi-sketchy part of town. I don't feel unsafe, but I also wouldn't be roaming around here after dark. I was really intimidated the first time I went to the boxing fitness class and my hands were shaking for a good half hour after because my arms were so tired. First takeaway: the class is intense and punching things is not as intuitive as it sounds. I went again because Mike, the coach for my first class, was awesome and because this is probably the most I've enjoyed cardio. I hate cardio and I've long made peace with the fact that the only running I'll ever do is running away from my problems (which unfortunately doesn't burn calories). The boxing fitness classes at Cappy's are intense, super high energy, and they leave me breathless every single time without doing a single sprint, jog, or run. I LOVE IT. I wish they had a beginners workshop to get newbies up to speed but it doesn't look like it. After years of always being the last person in the room to grasp a new dance move, concept or technique of any sort, I knew I would feel more confident going into the regular boxing fitness classes after taking a couple of private coaching sessions to learn the fundamentals. I was lucky to get Ann as a coach, she's fantastic. She's tough, encouraging, and patient. She always has something genuinely positive to say and is just intimidating enough that I dare not slack off. The afternoon (5:30 and 6:30pm) classes are the busiest, so I try to go during lunch so I can embarrass myself in a smaller group. The people in the class are very friendly. Whenever they found out that I was new (which is usually within the first 5 minutes), they were eager to give me helpful pointers. The coaches also do a very good job of coordinating the movement around the class and making sure that I wasn't completely lost. The only downside is that even though it's a great full body workout, I think it works your legs the least. I used to go to a gym that would emphasize arms, abs, and legs on different days, so I kind of miss working out my legs a bit more. P.S. Bring your own water or bring cash to buy bottled water from the gym downstairs. P.P.S. They currently have a Groupon!

I asked for a side of shrimp with my nachos for protein and they had no trouble doing this for me! The nachos were definitely elevated and high quality, so I really appreciated my low class meal at a high class place! Their wine selection is lovely. I got a pinot noir and a glass of prosecco and both were very impressive. Also, I have to note that the bathrooms here are amazing. Super clean and spacious. I will probably come back to meet with my friends here, but don't see myself joining the club or coming back on my own.

I still remember my earliest days of swimming lessons and meeting friends I still have to this day. I remember the amazing annual father-daughter event, my teen years and even coming back after college and seeing the amazing staff who I had known for so long and was able to hear updates on their life as they asked me about mine. I can't say enough about this place. While there, I trained with guys who ended up in the NBA, and personal trainers who were beyond committed to their practice. It was a great place that I would spend time at studying while I waited for my father to wrap up work and then head home for the evening. As someone who's spent the last 10 years on the east coast, its far more rare that I'm able to come through, but when I do I definitely see that east coast club influence. As others have mentioned, the opportunities that the club provides far beyond its actual location should never be ignored. Whenever my parents come back east to visit me, we always try to stop through NYAC and often use the WAC to make all of our reservations, just as you can make theater and event reservations in Seattle and plenty of other cities.

I've been training at Wudang Kungfu for the past 3 years so far. If you are looking for a place…read morewhere you can train forms AND application, within the same gym, this is the best place in Seattle to do it. I have explored lots of different martial arts gyms in the greater Seattle area, and lots of them have different things to offer. However, it was difficult to find traditional Chinese gungfu that is rooted in the culture and practice of Chinese martial arts that also teaches real, effective, full contact application. This is the place to do it! Lu Laoshi and Chang Laoshi are both incredibly knowledgeable, but also down to earth and humble. They really know their stuff, through the historical lineage and practice. There are many amazing non-Chinese instructors of the Chinese martial arts, but I personally appreciate that both head instructors are ethnically and culturally Chinese while also being attuned to western culture and the norms of western students. This is not a school with Japanese style belt progression, or a very hierarchical student culture. Both Instructor Lu and Instructor Chang expect students to think critically for themselves, and for the instruction to make sense because it works, not just because "they say so." If you approach it with an open mind, there is much to learn at this school, no matter your training goals. Chang Laoshi has many years fighting in the ring, testing his application skills in ring fighting, to complement his deep understanding of the traditional forms, and Lu Laoshi has a rich knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine in addition to her martial arts practice. Whether you want to learn internal martial arts for demonstration, cultivate qigong, learn about the culture and history of Chinese martial arts, or spar and compete in sanda full contact ring fighting, this is a place where you can do some or all of those things. There are many places in Seattle where you can learn traditional Chinese gungfu, and internal martial arts. There are also many places that will teach you full contact grappling and striking, for muay thai/BJJ/MMA etc. However, if you are trying to learn both of these dimensions of the martial arts and not just one or the other, this is in my opinion the best place in Seattle for it. You can learn forms, qigong, application, open hand, and weapons, all under one roof and with two deeply qualified instructors. There are places that are probably more "affordable" if you are just looking for the cheapest place to train and get a workout, but in this case, I think the expertise and thoroughness of instruction is more than justified, especially considering the generosity of both instructors when it comes to time and answering questions after official class hours.

After attending Wudang academy for over a year I can confidently say that I was in the best shape…read moreof my life! My flexibility dramatically improved but also overall body connection/fitness. The chronic pain in my knee completely resolved. If you want to live a long, happy, and healthy life this is the secret! They have many different classes/styles of martial arts that can be practiced, and the masters are amazing at helping you choose the best style to fit your goals. If I had more time I would study as many styles as possible. During my time there I practiced Baguzahang (Circular Boxing), Taijiquan (Tai Chi), and Qigong. A memory that particularly stands out to me was a student who had come from New York just to study at the academy. He told me that he originally heard about it after climbing the Wudang mountain in China looking for a master to train him in the original Wudang Sword Style. He was able to find a master, but the man told him to come to Seattle, WA and study at Wudang academy. This demonstrates the authenticity to their teachings which draw direct lineage to the old masters of Chinese Kung Fu. I originally attended the academy several years ago, before my life became extremely busy and I moved to Chicago. I plan to move back to the area some day and Wudang academy is at the top of my list for activities to prioritize. If I have kids someday, I plan on taking them to the academy. I hope that in the future I will be able to make time to attend again. If my review piques your interest, please attend, and learn more in person. I am a humble student and am no doubt not fully representing the amazing nature of this academy so please go check it out for yourself! -Steven
