The last time I took this bus was 2019, so I wasn't 100% sure what to expect. The bus and ride were surprisingly pleasant. The things I noticed/encountered: -The seats were a little smaller, but fairly comfy. -There were seat belts available -Depending on the seat, outlets were in the bottom/front of the 2 seats or side of the window seats. -There were large, panoramic tinted windows, which made the ride better. -Large garbage bags were placed throughout the bus, which helped keep the bus cleaner (assuming people used them). -The bathroom was small, but decent and clean...at least at the start of the ride. -There were foot rests, but they weren't very useful. I took the 5:30 pm bus on a Wednesday, so it wasn't as packed as a weekend bus may have been. The driver was friendly, check-in process was seamless...we just gave our names. I didn't have any large luggage, so I didn't have to use that extra compartment on the outside/bottom of the bus, but it was available for self-loading/unloading. There was additional storage available above the seats (similar to an airplane) and below the front seats. Even though there was traffic and heavy rain, we made it to our stop (stop #2 out of 3) in perfect time. They used to be so great! I took them every time from Boston-NYC... now I'd rather spend more to take Amtrak. This week I decided to do it because the train fare was so high for the holiday weekend. Driver went thru upstate NY for some reason, then NJ which added a bunch of time to the trip, was on the phone most of the time and yelling at passengers. Total trip time was about 6.5hrs. read more

For our pickup in Tysons Corner, VA the bus arrived 25 minutes late and departed 40 minutes late. I was traveling with my wife, but when we boarded there were only single seats next to other passengers available. The woman I sat next to had a large blanket covering her entire body and spilling into my space. She had pungent body odor. My wife's seat partner also had terrible body odor. I connected to the bus Wi-Fi, but that Wi-Fi wasn't connected to the Internet! So it was useless. There were 110V AC receptacles under the seat - you must look to find them. The driver blasted rap music with lots of distortion because the volume exceeded the capabilities of his device. In between songs, the DJs talked about horribly inappropriate topics. Then there was a problem with the bus. Around Baltimore, the driver pulled over and fiddled with something. It might have been the luggage compartment clasp? I don't know what the problem was because he didn't inform the passengers. I thought he fixed the problem because we continued the trip, but then the problem must have resurfaced. About halfway through the drive, we picked up another driver. After the driver boarded one passenger asked why we weren't going anywhere. We were just sitting. The driver said that we were waiting for a mechanic to fix a problem. The other passenger complained about how late we were going to arrive at our destination. The driver had no skills for how to deal with passengers. Instead he asked the passenger, "Are you a bus driver?" All this driver needed to do was apologize for the lateness and keep the passengers informed. For example, when he said that we're waiting for a mechanic there was no timeframe provided - where is the mechanic coming from? Is it likely to be 20 minutes or 2 hours? After the new driver took over, the old driver sat in the front row blasting TikTok reels on his phone. He had no self-awareness or curtesy for the surrounding passengers. We were supposed to arrive at 11:30am but ended up arriving around 1:15pm. I booked my return trip on Amtrak. read more

I've only ridden Go Buses twice and both times have been so horrible, never going to book through them again. The drivers are actually so so nice. But the ride and bus experience is unbelievably terrible. My first trip was from NYC to VA. The bus was packed so I had to sit in the back. The restroom door didn't close shut, and it was a sliding one. So anytime the driver made any turn, the door would slide open super fast and slam. Not to mention the smell...Additionally, the driver made like 3 stops, adding 30 minutes to the "direct" route. My second trip was from VA to NYC. Halfway through, we made a stop and the driver said there was an oil leak??? So we had to wait 30 minutes for a new bus to pick us up. This new bus is so old and dirty, I'm currently writing this review from it. I've reached out to the company through their online form as well as their email, but no response. I am writing this to complaint about an extrememly unprofessional, inhumane and rude bus driver. My elderly Mother and Father took the bus today 5/23/2024 from Manhattan to Vienna/Fairfax (6846 Ny to Vienna/Fairfax 4:30pm bus). They missed their 3:30pm bus and requested the 4:30pm bus driver to please accomadate them in his bus. The driver behaved in a very unprofessional way and told them if he has space he would take them and made them wait until the bus departure time before letting them in. His behavior was also extremely rude stating "if you miss your bus then you have to wait and I dont have to take you if I dont want to". I have completely lost faith in this compney. I've been a loyal GoBuses customer for over 5 years. I first started using this company as a college student to travel home because of the low-cost tickets, and have stuck with them ever since. From my experience, the buses are clean, the drivers are on time, and it gets me from point A to point B. I particularly like their rewards system, which has allowed me to cut down on cost as well, and once you reach a certain tier, you can even cancel tickets with no fee and get your money in points for future travel. They used to have flash sales as well. However, lately, I feel like quality of service has gone down. They no longer provide free water bottles. The in-bus WiFi doesn't work. They only have two trips between stops, one in the morning and one in the evening (they used to have multiple trips during the day). They've increased their prices so much that sometimes I can get an Amtrak ticket for cheaper. For example, I just looked at a trip and they now charge a $4.99 fee for booking online, so even if the ticket costs $29, it comes out to $34 with the fee. Instead, I bought an Amtrak ticket for $31. I understand that as time goes on, prices may reflect the state of the economy, but I find it unacceptable that the train is cheaper than the bus. Even at their cheapest price, which lately is $29 ($24 + booking fee), it's only $2 difference for a train ticket. I've been slowly transitioning out of using GoBuses for this reason, unless I'm in a pinch. It's unfortunate but I hope GoBuses takes this feedback and actions on it. Removing the booking fee, which didn't exist before, would in my opinion be a step forward. read more

Unfortunately the curb side pick up here does not have any shelter so you're completely exposed to the elements! (This is more like 3.5 stars, but I'm rounding up.) It's a small price to pay though for a cheaper fare than the Bus Lines paying a fee for a Port Authority parking spot. I'm always conflicted whether we should get there within 30 mins of bus departure and wait outside OR hang out until 10 minutes while risking not sitting next to your travel companion(s). With the exception of one instance, the bus departures have been on time and arrived at the destination a bit earlier than the estimated time. After several instances of subpar service and bad experiences on bus rides with Greyhound, I switched to Gobus and I'm never going back! Reasons why I like GoBus: 1) They give passengers a complimentary bottle of water. Over the winter, the Riverside location gave us free hot chocolate or cider (too kind!!) 2) They have numerous pickup/drop up locations in Boston, which makes my life sooo much easier since I no longer have to go to South Station. 3) Their reward system brings you more bank for your buck. I feel like I am consistently redeeming points to partially or completely pay off ticket purchases thanks to their point system. With Greyhound, I felt like i was racking up points for rewards that were unsatisfactory or weren't actually redeemable :(  4) You don't need to physically print out your ticket to board and Go Bus will notify you about delays via email.  5) Great customer service! Have called Greyhound and GoBus about refunds and what took Greyhound 1 month to do (& only happened because of my constant nagging) took only GoBus 1-2 days to complete! I admit I had some doubts booking this bus due to the mixed reviews here. I decided to take the chance since they go from Manhattan to Cambridge, MA (Alewife Station) instead of South Station. It's just more convenient to me. Location: Very easy to find, bus stops are clearly marked with big banner (see pic). W 30th St, between 9th & 10th. Google Map: search for Go Bus. Process: I arrived at 3pm for my 3:30pm bus. The bus was already there (Boston College themed bus). I was greeted by the friendly driver, grab my free bottle of water and got on board. If your plans change you can cancel your trip up to 24 from departure. I use this really to change my times...there is never enough time in the big apple! Please do not take this bus. No matter how broke you are don't do it. I saw this bus and a Peter Pan, and I thought, all buses suck what's the difference? Save ten dollars. I just spent 7 hours on this bus going from Boston to NYC. After 6 hours and we were in Nyack NY passengers started asking the driver why in the world we were going north from Nyack. we had traffic the whole way, not his fault of course but what we found out is he went really out of the way to avoid traffic and it didn't work and he doesn't use gps. People were pleading w him, please turn around u are going no possible way to NY. To his credit he listened to the mutiny and changed direction. But he still didn't use gps and we told him to take the bridge. He refused so we spent another 1.5 hours in major traffic to take the Lincoln tunnel. We all called the number nobody answered of course, I emailed, somebody actually got back to me right away but would not give me a refund. It was totally crazy read more

Decided to try this company in an effort to "upgrade" from my usual Peter Pan experience. Took the bus from Boston to NYC. Advertised as "Express" with only one stop in Newton, MA. Supposed to leave at 10 am and arrive at 2:15 pm. It's 3:09 pm and we are still about 40 minutes away by Google Maps' estimate. We are also in Secaucus, New Jersey. Sure, traffic can be unpredictable. But i'm also sure that 20 minute stop in Hartford, CT didn't help matters. (Hartford is a stop on their non-express route) No power outlets either. Not happy that they have added the awful Greenbelt stop way out in the suburbs to the NY to DC ride. This add an extra 45 minutes- don't believe the website - so now it will take at least 4 3/4 hours. Why did they decide to ruin a good thing? They will certainly lose a lot of business from this. Although they had a few express buses, who wants to take one at 5:30AM??? For the first three years I lived in New York, Go Bus was my go-to way to get home to Providence or Boston. I'd spread the love to fellow travelers, and talk it up to anyone who would listen! It's with a heavy heart that I rescind this recommendation. I used to travel on Go Bus because traveling the 95 corridor is terrible in peak season, but Go was the only service that made it tolerable. They'd give us updates on traffic over the loudspeaker, and they would even alter routes to avoid accidents! Best of all was the point system--for whatever reason it was easy to cash in and earn points for frequent ridership. Somewhere along the line they changed their points system, and I guess they changed their policy for going off-route, too, because nowadays the trips are just as long as Peter Pan with less leg room... and my points "lost value" or whatever. On top of this, waiting for a bus in Manhattan requires you stand out in the cold. I guess I'm also bitter because one time on a long drive from Providence to Manhattan in bumper-to-bumper traffic, there was a group of Japanese tourists sitting in the first row anxious that they were going to miss a flight home, and they probably would have made it just in time, but the driver decided to take an unscheduled 20 minute stop so he could smoke a cigarette, thus ensuring that the tourists would not make it. It was highly upsetting to watch a nice man politely plead with he driver, who pretended he could not understand while blowing smoke rings in the man's face. read more

If I could give this service 0 stars, I would. I booked a round trip bus ride between Washington DC and Westampton, NJ. I am currently writing this review from the bus stop in NJ in 40 degree rainy weather. A bus was supposed to pick me up at 11:30 AM but no one showed up. I called them at 11:42 AM to check on the status of my bus and was put on hold for 10 minutes. The customer rep told me that the bus was scheduled to stop there but it did not and there is nothing they could do and that they couldn't re-route the bus. Now, here I am, in the middle of nowhere, freezing and all they have to tell me is that they will refund my $9 ride and book me on the next bus at 6 pm. Between now and 6 pm I have absolutely no where to go. For SIX HOURS. I was on the phone with customer service and did not hear one single apology from anyone until I pointed out how incredibly insensitive they were being. I cannot emphasize how UNSAFE I feel at this moment. Also very cold. This time it was an able bodied adult. It could have been a young girl traveling alone or an older person who doesn't know how to use uber and get to a different location. It could have been someone who couldn't afford to make different arrangements. Go buses really needs to train their drivers better and also their customer service representatives to make sure they know how to handle these situations which most definitely SHOULD NOT be happening. I would highly recommend NEVER using this service. The level of unprofessionalism is something I have never experienced and I hope no one else has to. read more

Took the bus up and back to NYC from Virginia. Not sure if this is the norm, but had service related issues with the buses in both directions. When leaving from VA, there was some issue with the door on the bus, so we had to wait in Tysons for over an hour for a replacement bus. Arrived in NYC over two hours late. On the return trip from NYC, the bus broke down on the NJ Turnpike and again had to wait over 1.5 hours on the side of the road for a replacement bus. Posted arrival times can not be relied upon. This is my first time use GoBuses. It is crazy. The bus start it's journey from DC at 2:45. After 3 hours of driving, the driver stoped in Maryland for 30 minutes as rest. Then at 7:55 we stoped again at the station in NJ to switch driver but the replacing driver was not there and we had to wait an hour for the replacing driver. And did not start driving until 8:45 considering the trip supposed to end at 7:00 o'clock. We did not make it to Manhattan, NY until 11:00 o'clock. I will never ever take this service again. My Dad had to wait on my arrival all that time. It is insane. read more

I took Go Bus from Virginia to New York and there are better buses as well as worse ones. The driver was friendly but he drove rather aggressively when traffic backed up. He would use off-ramp and on-ramp lanes to get around slow drivers and he tailgated other cars on a couple occasions. The Wi-Fi kept cutting out which bothered my traveling companion more than it bothered me. The seats were smaller and less comfortable than Mega Bus or Bolt Bus. read more

Few complains here. Very smooth ride from New York to metro DC during a weekday, the bus left promptly at 10A and arrived in DC about 2p sharp. There was no traffic and the bus had less than 50% capacity. The seats were roomy enough since there were not many passengers. There was complimentary bottled water. There was Wifi on the bus though it was not the most robust (didn't expect it would be), but adequate enough. There were charging outlets near the seats though I only came across three-pronged outlets. A good experience overall. read more

Great find! Was looking for an inexpensive bus from NYC to Washington DC and actually since this bus stops in Fairfax/Vienna, Virginia, that was a preferred destination. It also stops in 4 other locations throughout the DC metro area (Manassas, Eastern Market and two other locations). Its super convenient, though there isn't a building attached to where the buses pickup in Manhattan. So if its cold or raining, you have no protection if you are early and waiting for the bus. The driver for the bus that I took wasn't particularly pleasant, even somewhat grouchy barking orders about how we were supposed to behave on the bus. Most of it common sense. I kind of felt like I was on a school bus in Middle School in the way we were being talked to! I just took it with a grain of salt, figuring the driver was having a bad day and dozed off to sleep. We arrived early and the driver helped get the luggage out of the lower compartments and off we went. Great service, and I would easily use it again roundtrip, if feasible. read more

Prior to Covid service was excellent, on time, clean buses, and multiple scheduled departures and very polite drivers. Since Covid it's deteriorated and the service is awful and more expensive and only two daily departures. I took the bus roundtrip NYC to Cambridge. On the return, the bus was twenty minutes late in departure. (Prior to Covid, the bus would arrive 15 minutes early to begin boarding so as to ensure an on time departure). The driver then pulled over at a rest stop, left the passengers inside the bus unattended so that he and the backup driver could purchase food. That added another 10 minutes to the trip. Additionally, the driver would not allow anyone to sit in the two front row seats even though there was plexiglass separating the driver from the passengers. Those seats remained empty throughout the trip. This has happened on other trips as well. I've tried complaining but customer service never answers the phone and doesn't respond to online complaints. Only a matter of time before they go out of business. I am switching to Amtrak read more

I've used this bus for 3 years between NYC and Virginia. It has gone downhill in my opinion. Pros - Great selection of times. Great pick-up at Manassas. Usually clean. Cons - The toilet on the bus I'm on as I write this review has a seat that has come unattached. WiFi stinks - bring your own hotspot. Drivers are hit and miss. I've had great, smooth rides, and some that have made me so nauseous because the drivers are hurried and ride the brakes the whole way. Sick and tired of not being allowed to sit in the front seat because the drivers put the "free" waters there - I paid for a seat and am usually the first on the bus, therefore I should be permitted to sit in whichever seat I want, including the only seats with work surfaces for my laptop. To management: Please have some consistency. Fix the toilets; tell drivers that the waters need to be stored somewhere other than the front seat; and have some sort of quality control on the driving. read more

Absolutely a nightmare. Booked ticket for friend and the bus had a different logo so he missed the bus entirely. Went ahead and paid for second ticket, while my friend waited for over seven hours for the next another issue, as he stood outside to board the driver shut the door and began to drive away. My friend ran and yelled to no avail. The later bus was fully booked, we got the last ticket; I guess the driver just thought "hey looks full to me"..... needless to say less then stellar service. Oh and on that note, don't ever bother calling. They don't have a call center. All correspondence is done through impersonal email. Also, don't bother buying a flex ticket. By the time you abreast them of the issue they don't GIVE A F. It's just no and more no's. Hitchhike, walk, or take greyhound or Amtrak. DONT BOOK GO BUS. Finally, couldn't get a refund either on flex ticket. The trip that never happened. SO SAD...,,, need I say more? read more

I have to say ... at first I was nervous about taking the Go Bus lines because of the past reviews but I have to say that it was an enjoyable experience this past weekend. I took the Go Bus service to Providence, RI and the location choice was exactly where it said it would be, the check-in process was seamless and they even offered us a bottle of water each for our ride! The chairs reclined, they had a WORKING charging outlet, and it went very smooth, roundtrip! I had the same bus driver on my way back and she was just as nice and kept it clean. Thank you Go Bus! I do recommend that you change the receptionist at the main information line because she was the only 1 star I would give this company. She was rude, sucked her teeth when I inquired about a possible cancellation, and was talking back to me which was extremely unprofessional. Almost even hung up on me. read more

I took my first Go Bus this weekend (from NYC to Boston) and honestly, there was very little to complain about. The employees were friendly and organized, they left right on time and drove straight through without a stop, and the buses were comfortable and clean. The buses weren't overcrowded, either, despite my leaving during Friday rush hour and returning Sunday afternoon. I paid $52 RT for this trip, which seemed like a pretty good deal to me. An added bonus was the ability to stop at the Riverside T stop (Green Line) in Newton and the Alewife stop (Red Line) in Cambridge. This is potentially very useful for those who don't live anywhere near South Station. The only reason I gave four stars instead of five is because neither of my buses had Wifi or the 110V outlets that were advertised on the web site. I didn't need them, really, but companies should be truthful about what they are offering. Along those lines, be aware that your bus is likely to be a silver bus that says Academy on the side, so you might not immediately realize this was the Go Bus. read more

Love taking the GO bus from Newton/NYC and back. The drivers are courteous and aren't hard on the pedal so you can read, nap, work on your laptop, check emails on your phone, watch the bus movie, etc. Free WI - oh - and the price is right! Also saves time - shaves off about 20 minutes of non-rush hour by bypassing Boston. Always appreciate when the other passengers are respectful and there's no chatting on their phones. p.s. I always try to sit on the sunny side next to a window so I can cat nap when not working. You may also want to be sure any electronics are plugged in before the ride gets underway. The outlets are on the bottom next to the window and not always easy to maneuver in to the socket once the bus is underway, especially when you are in an aisle seat and need to ask your seat mate to assist. I had 3 experiences with gobus and it was fine until someone stole my luggage as soon as i got off the bus. Gobus did nothing about this situation as they said that passengers are liable in this position, but really? Gave me the wrong customer service number, No system in place to monitor the luggages, I lost my laptop and everything in that luggage and they said it might've been an "honest mistake". I will never take gobus again, or any bus companies in light of this situation. read more

Driver arrived in Alexandria, VA this morning (11/15/19) 30 minutes late. We stopped in Mount Holly, NJ across the street from the Academy bus offices to pick up a relief driver but there was not one available. This resulted in an additional 30 minute delay. There is no wifi on the bus and no explanation why. Bottled water? None. Opening the cup holders are scary - they are filthy and the driver has a bad attitude. The transportation is fine, but I'm leaving 3 stars for the excessive air conditioning. It's FREEZING Aaron this bus and the individual vents don't shut. Why is that okay? People aren't carrying jackets with them when it's 80 degree out. Why can't the air be on a low setting? There's absolutely no need for it to be like a refrigerator. I'm really upset about this, I don't want to be cold on a 4 hour commute. Go Bus, I hope you're reading this and will fix it. Stop blasting the AC, or at least give us vents that shut, or I dunno, give everyone complimentary blankets. This was the first time I used Go Bus, for my trip to Boston. To my surprise they were on point. The bus location was a little hard to find at first but granted it was 4am in the morning. However, the block they load their buses on was clearly labeled with banners based on destination and highly organized. The driver was a driver; he asked for you ticket, told you where to leave your luggage so it can be loaded and drove a smooth ride to Boston. Given that we left in the early morning the ride was quick ride. The seats weren't comfy at all but I've yet to see a discounted bus that travels across states that has been comfy. Great bus for the price. Arrived to DC 30 min early. Water was offered pre-boarding. Info on boarding could use help as the map is very generic on "the corner" which could be any of 4 corners. Seats weren't the most comfy but 100% recommended overall, especially for the price. Update to company reply: The printout I got said 31st and 8th for DC, but I had to call to find out which of the four potential corners that meant. Unless I just didn't read closet enough. read more
