This was my first time having dinner at this new incarnation of the "old" Gnocchi, a staple in this neighborhood. I never ate at the old place, but it didn't matter. The meal I had tonight was one of the best meals I've had in memory. First, though, the setting: it's a small place with wonderful back-in-the-day touches, like stained glass windows and Tiffany-style lighting. Maria, the new owner, is planning on showcasing local artists on her walls, something I'd be interested in taking part in, as I'm a photographer. For couples who really wants a special table, there is one on its own riser, right up by the front streetside window--I want to sit there next time! In other words, this is a great place for a first date, an anniversary dinner, or just a table for one, as I did. The menu is light years away from their predecessor's and showcases the creations of Chef Ryan, who puts his experienced twist on the traditional in a way that has to be tasted AND seen, as his presentations are without peer. My wonderful server Ellen suggested I begin with the house salad and I tentatively agreed, expecting the usual lettuce, tomato and onion with a house dressing. What I got instead was a beautifully arranged medley of greens (loved the curled cukes, reminiscent of ribbon candy) with a wonderful tangy/sweet dressing but not overpowering dressing. I also let her suggest the entree, and without hesitation she said I needed to get the ravioli with lump crab and lobster. It came with a decadent sauce that clung to the seafood and the pasta without being thick. In fact, the sauce was so addicting, I asked for some focaccia to sop up the remaining drops. It went perfectly with the bottle of red I'd brought along. Maria, who by this time had come by to say hello, recommended Ryan's own sweet potato bread pudding, which needs a new name, because even if you don't go near sweet potatoes or bread pudding, you need to finish your meal with this amazing dessert. I don't eat ice cream these days, but how could I refuse? Finishing that left me perfectly sated--not too full, but completely satisified. Being Italian, I had to top off this meal with a caffe latte, which was done up just right. As a former freelance restaurant reviewer in suburban NY, I've had many good meals, but this one ranks right at the top, for many reasons: the intimate setting, the friendly yet professional service, the creative menu, and of course, the incredible energy of Maria, Ryan and everyone else there. I couldn't believe they've only been at this for 4 months; they obviously have their stuff together already. And I hear that I need to try the steaks that Chef Ryan prepares; can't wait! I was so excited about my meal that I'm inviting my neighbors to come back with me next week. I'm hoping word-of-mouth will kick in and bring in guests from all over the area. Extremely frustrating experience at Gnocchi with a party of 6 for a birthday celebration last night. I have dined at Gnocchi in the past and absolutely loved it, the atmosphere, the kind chef, the attentive service. That's why I booked it. This time, there were myriad problems from the jump. We were sat immediately, which was great, but then not greeted for over 20 minutes by our actual server. An assistant server attempted to open our wine but couldn't figure out how to, which is odd for a BYOB establishment but that's neither here nor there, but then did not get help from other staff or allow us to use the wine opener, so we sat without drinks or service for awhile. Fine, whatever. Then when we finally ordered, the food took approximately an hour to come out -- no check ins from our server (or the assistant server) to reassure us about the long wait time or even offer bread, as we were starving. Bare minimum service here. I saw the manager's Chat GPT-response to another guests's review from my party stating that "the food was consumed before any concerns were brought up" -- and yeah, we were starving.....and it was a birthday celebration, we're obviously going to eat when the food FINALLY arrives, it's food! And our server wasn't present to complain to, I had to walk up to the kitchen to even get a word in, and when I did, our server had excuse after excuse for why we waited so long, and absolutely no apologies or understanding of how frustrating this was. I'm a waitress myself, and when my guests have exaggerated wait times for food, I am the first one to go to my manager and demand we comp food. No prompting needed. It's customer service 101. We were one of five tables in the restaurant, and youre telling me you didn't notice how long we waited or consider that this sucks? Not buying it. That's straight up negligence. Cherry on top was we basically had to beg for items to be removed from the bill as a small consolation for dampening an evening intended to celebrate a friend. Before agreeing to comp items, the owner actually suggested cutting the automatic gratuity -- so basically, let's fuck over the waiter who lives off tips rather than take the financial hit for your own mistakes. It's laughable. Then she removed two of the cheapest things were ordered, as if that was any consolation for how frustrating our experience was, or the fact that we dined for nearly THREE HOURS. The owner gave us a real awkward and hard time about comping items, having us repeatedly explain what made us unhappy as if it wasn't obvious. Owner also used a slur to describe little people at the start of our meal, very randomly, and it was super off putting. Dressed very unprofessionally as well. Paying prices like Gnocchi's, you expect a certain level of service and professionalism....not existent here anymore. There are multiple other reviews from guests reflecting similar concerns under the new ownership. Sad to see an institution like Gnocchi turn into this. I will not be returning. read more

We were a table of 10. Long time customers. We had no idea they changed hands. Greeting and table were great. Unfortunately, 7 out of 10 main courses were incorrect. They served everyone who ordered gnocchi ala vodka, fra diablo instead. They insisted it was ala vodka. They then replaced them with Alfredo. What upsets me is the fact that they tried to tell us the fra diablo was, in fact, ala vodka. After all of us being more than patient, they refused to own their mistakes and couldn't be accommodating in any way. Come on people now! Bring back the chef table and Mossimo! The service and food were absolutely excellent from start to finish. We tried the penne vodka, gnocchi shrimp scampi, shrimp fra diavolo, penne marinara, and the portobello mushroom appetizer--which was especially amazing. worth 5 Michelin stars....I'm a winemaker (Villa Milagro Vineyards) so I "got" tastebuds! And they have NEVER been more indulged than last night at Gnocchi. Everything about this small gem of a restaurant screams FANTASTIC! We were greeted like family by staff sitting outside in the heat of this 4th of July weekend. Invited in, we ordered a simple house salad to start. Nothing about it was simple except that it was simply THE best house salad we ever had. The usual mixed green - but laced with cucumbers thinly sliced and rolled to look like garnish; tiny croutons (really about 1/8inch squares) that gave great crunch without overpowering the salad, shaved carrots and bite size yellow tomatoes sweet like candy. Then the dressing! Light, perfectly balanced with no one element overpowering any other. Next, we had mussels for which we requested the hottest sauce. Not one was overcooked or rubbery. Each was so delicate and fresh that it melted in your mouth. And the marinara!!!!! We were grateful for the perfectly toasted pieces of Italian bread to soak it up as we wiped down the bowl to get the last drops. For our mains, I had the Boursin gnocchi in an alfredo sauce. To begin, I love Boursin - its delicate blend of spices combined to create its own flavor profile. Covered in Gnocchi's velvety alfredo, it was an exquisite explosion of subtleness that left you wanting more as you wondered how could something so simple make you crave more. My daughter's salmon was served with roasted brussels sprouts in a corn reduction. Her comment - I have never had salmon cooked to such perfection that the texture melts in your mouth. And that corn reduction? A kind of "down-home" goodness of the best southern creamed corn you have ever tasted. Every dish we had at Gnocchi had layer upon layer of flavor melded like a fine aged red wine. And best of all was our chance to chat with owners Maria and Ryan. Maria is one of the MOST welcoming people ever created. She oozes love and hospitality. And Chef Ryan! This guy would make any Iron Chef tremble - both from fear of losing to him and anticipation to taste his creations. You want a 4 star experience in a laid back, homey atmosphere......go to Gnocchi. Since this restaurant does not want to take ownership for the mistakes they made, I will also make a post about my experience. 10 of us dined there on Saturday evening, and we were welcomed in right away and promptly greeted by the server, and our bottles of wine were opened, all fantastic. We discovered they are changing the menu, and no longer offer the tasting menu, disappointing but we moved on. We ordered several apps which were good, but that's where the ball dropped. 4 of us ordered gnocchi Ala vodka, 2 with meatballs, 2 with shrimp, 1 person fra divalo, 1 linguini Alfredo, 1 veal Parmesan, 2 gnocchi Alfredo, and 1 gnocchi scampi. It started out with our food all coming out at different times, I am talking large gaps of 5 minutes with 2 dishes at a time coming out at time, which is unfortunate because we would've liked to all have eaten at the same time but we were patient and understood things happen. I was one of the patrons who most certainly ordered gnocchi Ala vodka NOT gnocchi fra diavlo, It was so spicy I could not eat it. My husband also ordered gnocchi Ala vodka, which was also spicy and his gnocchi was much softer than mine. The 3rd who ordered didn't even get gnocchi was given penne Ala vodka which was not what she ordered. The 4th person to order gnocchi Ala vodka her sauce looked COMPLETELY different from my dish, we ordered the same thing. We were told twice that her dish was correct, turns out it was not. As the 4 of us all discovered how spicy the dish was we asked if it could be replaced with a different sauce which the manager obliged to. However the dishes we ordered were supposed to have shrimp and they did not, which at that point we just wanted to eat a hot meal so we ate. 2 of the dishes were salty, and the other 2 were very garlicky which was better than salty. Two of the dishes gnocchi were soft and pillowy as you would expect gnocchi to be the other 2 and the gnocchi scampi were not and very chewy. My one friend had something RED floating in her soda, last time I checked ice is not red, but who am I ? At this point we just wanted to pay for our meal and leave. We asked for the check and server brought it to us and we were overcharged. We were charged for 2 bruschetta when we only ordered 1, and we were charged for 2 orders of shrimp additions when we never received them. Also, the sauces are different prices as well but we didn't bother disputing that. After we told the server we were over charged she said she wasn't sure what the manager had done with our meals and realized the check was probably not right, she also said she forgot to add the sodas. So after 4 of the 10 meals being wrong, inconsistent taste/food, inconsistent timing of dishes coming out, things floating in someone's drink, being charged a corking fee that was not disclosed, and being overcharged, all brought to the managers attention, the restaurant still wanted more. The corking fee we were charged was not supposed to go into effect until 6/10/2026 according to their new menu they showed us an example of. The corking fee has never been in existence before this and was NOT on the menu we used for Saturday. I have never been so flabbergasted by an experience in my life. We were accommodated in the sense of our dishes being replaced with missing protein still and inconsistent flavor and textures, and that's about it. When a friend tried to leave a honest review of our experience the restaurant shot her entire review down and pretty much said our stories don't match to her staffs and their POS receipt, why not just call her a liar flat out and move on? The POS receipt does not match because we had to ask to have changed to the correct amount, something we shouldn't have had to do. Unfortunately this has completely ruined our experience and we will not patron again of Gnocchi and we will be sure to share our experience with others so they do not experience the same disappointing outcome. The new management/owner may have took over the name Gnocchi but they most certainly did not take over the same wonderful experience it USED to be. They will not be in business long continuing to do things this way. Save your money and go elsewhere! read more

This spot is such a treasure! While traveling with my family, this place was close to our Air B&B. The service was great, and the owner was kind and personable. We ordered Bruschetta, Burrata, and mussels. All the apps came out great. It was after that we ran into some issues. A bunch of us ordered gnocchi ala vodka and it tasted like they dumped an entire bottle of red pepper flakes in it. So we switched our order to gnocchi Alfredo. Which was good but each one of our dishes tasted different even though it was the same dish. Originally I was given the wrong dish and was told no it was correct. Eventually it was figured out they made my finances dish twice and tried to give me one. The waitress came back and said sorry thought I was right. My one friend ordered gnocchi Ala Vodka and she got a completely wrong pasta. A bunch of us did not get the protein we asked for with our pasta. My friend had things floating in her soda. We were charged for an extra app we did not order. We were also charged for the proteins we did not receive. I was highly disappointed with the overall service and food of this restaurant. CASH ONLY RESTAURANT. Take note, y'all, because I did not. I'm pretty sure all of their pasta and such is made in-house, so you really can't beat that. It's a wood-y vibe that makes it feel cozy, and it says "gnocchi" in very large letters on the wall (my sisters and I had a great time trying to figure out of the 'g' in 'gnocchi' was a very fancy capitalized G or a very large in size lowercase g). The stars for us were the meatball appetizer and the mushroom ravioli. The meatballs were just made of good meat, were tender, and the sauce added the best flavor to them. The mushroom ravioli came highly recommended by our water and for good reason. The mushroom flavor was strong, and the raviolis were FRESH. I got the pacheri, and though it was good, I didn't think it was amazing. It felt like a dish with a lot of elements that were just thrown together rather than something cohesive. And since this place is called gnocchi, we HAD to try it. It was mostly good, but the texture of the gnocchi were inconsistent. Some were the perfect bite, but some were much harder than they should have been. The service is the type of service where they treat you like family in that borderline uncomfortable way because even though they treat you like family they're not actually family. So for example, one waiter took my dad's phone to take a photo and he was like "Oh no, your girlfriend's calling!" when my mom was sitting right there. Love that it was open late though! This is an incredible little cash only, BYOB place. Soft lighting, intimate tables they aren't too close together. We had excellent service from the whole staff on a night without a reservation. My party got two special entrees and the chicken parm. The portion of pasta was huge and they gave him a hunk of chicken! The sauce was super good and you could tell it was made there. I thought the portion of ravioli was small as a meal but it was so good. Sage and lobster! The other entree we shared was the clam linguini in a white wine sauce. Lots of pasta and delicious clams. This is my fourth time at Gnocchi Philly. And I live in Miami! But it's now become a thing -every time I fly up to see my partner, we drop into this most charmingly authentic and relaxed eatery on Passyunk. That's probably enough review for most. But, if you're unsatisfied, please, be my guest... We originally stumbled into it by accident one night as we strolled down South Street. We mapped Italian into the iPhone and decided to walk up to check it out. I don't hate to admit this, but aside from reading reviews, I tend to judge a book by its cover, and rightfully so. We were immediately taken by its laid back, informal vibe and pseudo shabby chic atmosphere that felt like a mom and pop dining house off the beaten path in Salerno. They took us without a reservation and advised us of their cash only and bring your own bottle policy. Their menu was relatively small, something we could both appreciate as this is usually a sign of a restaurant that knows who they are and what they do best. And the prices were on the more than reasonable side of reasonable. Our dining experience was so unexpectedly pleasant that we vowed to return to see if perhaps it had been just a one night love affair. I'm delighted to report that It was not. To this day, we've not sampled anything on the menu that could pass for average, except perhaps the bread basket (more on this in a minute). Although I crave change, I am also a creature of habit. And so, my first three visits found me ordering the lobster ravioli. Clearly, this is an item I recommend. The meatball appetizer and the creamy burrata appetizer with its salty prosciutto and sweet tomatoes are also fantastic. The mushroom appetizer is another winner. And just when you think it couldn't get any deliciouser (because I just made that a word), boom! Out comes a limoncello cake that you'd swear was baked in Amalfi and floated right into the Gnocchi kitchen. If you don't enjoy this light but luscious dessert, please seek immediate medical assistance - your taste buds are suffering from a terminal case of riggermortis. This last time, we decided to have a "little get together" with a few friends from South Florida who also flew up and a couple from the Jersey Shore who drove down. This time, I broke the mold - I finally ordered a dish I'd had my eye on, the Flounder Franchaise. Wow! I kick myself for not having dived into different waters of the menu earlier. My appetizer this time was the steamed mussels in the red spicy sauce. Again, so on point! However, my Jersey buddy had the mussels in the white sauce. Remember the one solitary "average" item, the bread basket I mentioned? You try dunking that bread in that white sauce just once and tell me if you don't walk away from the evening with an I-just-got-orally-laid grin and a referral to the Betty Ford clinic for a briny yeast addiction. The place can lean towards the boisterous side, particularly when larger groups, like ours, are seated. So if that's not your scene, you may want to think twice, but I would still come out at least once for the food. The staff is terrific - attentive and accommodating, but can be fun and spicy if you're in that kind of vibe. As I mentioned, they are BYOB, so feel free to bring your favorite bottle of wine, whiskey or six pack of Old Milwaukee. My starter kit recommendation: Burrata Appetizer Lobster Ravioli Limoncello Cake Or just play pin the tail on the donkey with the menu - after all, It's bound to kick ass. read more

We had an excellent dining experience at Gnocchi! We had a 5 PM reservation since we have a toddler who can't hang with the later crowds. It started to fill up by the time we were leaving and it seems they are able to accommodate larger parties. The food was excellent and our server was attentive, helpful and kind. We started with the burrata with sweet tomatoes and red peppers, pickled green beans, olives and beef pepperoni - we loved every bite. Next came the entrees - ricotta gnocchi with a blush sauce (light, fluffy goodness), beef meatballs with linguini, and the fusilli with a lamb ragu. We over ordered with the intention of being able to bring food home, and were so glad we did! Don't skip out on the desserts - we had the limoncello cake (light and delicious) and tiramisu - also a hit. We learned the hard way that Philly is a city who loves reservations. So after having difficulty finding a spot the night before, we made reservations for here early. Charming and in a wonderful location, Gnocchi is warming and cordial. And the food resonates with such. I got to speak in Italian with our waiter which is always fun for me and a good sign that if an Italian will eat/work here, then you should pay attention to it. I ordered the linguine con vongole, but our table started with the burrata and also the basket of bread they put on our table. We had also brought our own wine. In addition, the restaurant is cash only. My linguine with clams was simply delicious, but what really made the night was the singer who quieted down the restaurant every so often with some beautiful opera. Now, that's amore. If I could give this place more than five stars I would! We had a great dinner planned with friends and we're able to make a reservation for a Saturday night. From the minute we walked in we felt welcome. We went with the chefs tasting which was $50 pp which included two salads, several sides, gnocci and an entree. Oh and of course...DESSERT! Our entire party was happy with their choices, and of course the meal was elevated by the fact that Gnocci is a BYOB, no corkage fee. We felt taken care of, not rushed, entertained, and well fed. A perfect hole in the wall old world Italian style property with amazing service. The interior design is phenomenal here and just too chic and cute to handle! I loved the servers and everyone coming around to make sure we were doing ok. I got the potato gnocchi with marinara and basil. It was so good. But I will say it lacked a little bit of flavor. My friend thought it was just perfect. It was a WONDERFUL meal. But I guess I wish there were more sauce options for the potato gnocchi. Plain marinara doesn't quite hit the spot for me. My boyfriend got the fusilli with lamb ragu. He said it did not meet expectations but was really good all in all. We just weren't totally blown away. But would definitely come back as the food was top quality and very good regardless. Definitely a must try for anyone looking for an adorable spot for some good Italian. read more

Locked up in quarantine writing a review for the last restaurant we went to before lock down. Had an awesome time with 5 others for a birthday celebration on March 13th. What a cool little restaurant. I made reservations for my daughter's 26th birthday. Our table was upgraded to larger one which was nice. There were 6 of us. Informed of specials and we ordered the string beans & a cheese dish. We had warm bread also. Our server was polite & friendly. Our entrees were awesome! Fresh gnocchi was the best. We came here with some friends on a Friday night at 9 PM -- it was our first time here but they're regulars. We were seated right away. A couple of things about this place that's good to know up front -- it's kind of small inside (we loved the vibe but just a heads up esp if you have a large party), it's CASH ONLY so make sure you plan ahead if you normally don't carry cash like me, and it's BYOB! Let me just say we had an AMAZING dinner here -- probably one of the best Italian restaurants I've ever been to in my life. We got some apps (burrata and an eggplant rolatini) and both were AMAZING. For entrees, we got 2 of the gnocchi specials (ricotta and mascarpone in a blush sauce that was absolutely superb), osso bucco, and a spinachi gnocchi. Everything was excellent!!! Finally, we got the tiramisu for dessert. It was phenomenal. Definitely be sure you get it. Even if you think you don't like tiramisu...it's that good. I should also mention that the service was amazing as well. Very warm and genuine; present but not hovering. Just fantastic overall. So long story short: would 100% recommend coming here. SCAM SCAM SCAM! Do not go eat at this restaurant. Owner is scamming the customers and does not tell you that this restaurant is cash only! What he is doing is totally fraud and a scam. He should get a visit from the IRS. I am happy to take them to dine at this place so they can see how they are trying to avoid paying taxes. But, yet, the owner charges you taxes and a 20% tip?!? Please don't go here!! They served us raw--yes raw chicken. Bright pink and could have sent one of us straight to the hospital. Chicken parm--sucked. Gnocchi--rock hard. Service--by far the worst I've ever been to. Best part about this restaurant was leaving! read more
