I have been to Golden Girl Chicago for the awesome tans a few times, but I primarily go to get my hair done by Amie Miller. She is fabulous and I've been going to see her for cuts and color for over a year now (previously at Emmet Rode Salon). It's obvious that Amie is very knowledgeable about hair - from the products she uses to understanding the texture, shape and thickness of your hair. I really can't compliment her enough. This past September, Amie styled my girls and I for my wedding and everyone looked beautiful and received so many compliments. She manages her time well and accounts for people like me, who have enough hair for three people, into her scheduling - so I never feel like my hair hasn't been given her full attention and on the wedding day, she tackled six of us splendidly. She's also really flexible with her scheduling and responds quickly to email, texts or phone calls. The salon itself is so warm and chic (thanks to Amie and Jenn's creativity), making it a lovely, calming environment. Both the space and the girls make you excited to come back for your next appointment. Just had my very first spray tan ever by the amazing Jen. She is so gentle and sweet, she took away all my nerves. I choose the express tan because I had an event that night. Worked like a charm! I was glowing by 7 pm (went in at 11:30). Everyone kept complimenting me, and I think I converted a few gals right then and there. My tan was even and really natural looking. If you've never done it, I'd definitely recommend trying it out, you'll be hooked. It was an instant confidence booster. I felt immediately sexier. I've been much sun exposure for a number of years now because of all he damage done earlier on in my life (I'm 28), so I've been missing the post suntan bronze look, G.G. brought it right back! I've gotten a spray tan here at least four times. Maybe five? I'm very pale and being very pale, I have trust issues when it comes to spray tan. I obviously don't want to look orange. Every tan I've gotten here has turned out great and each girl that's tanned me has done such a good job. I recently got spray tanned for my wedding. They're so friendly and put you at ease which is helpful when you're standing naked in front of them on a platform.. This place might be on the pricier side but it's worth it because I come away totally satisfied. I've done the express tan most times and prefer it because then I can shower same time. They also save my shower time information in my account which is pretty great - I'm glad they keep that level of detail for their customers. We learned that 1 hr 50 min is the magic number for me :) I also love that their new location on Milwaukee has free parking. I drive in from the western suburbs because I trust this place so much and the location is pretty convenient. It's also amazingly decorated. On Saturday I went to Glowout, to do a braid "trial" before choosing the salon I want for my wedding in June. My whole experience at Glowout was phenomenal! The salon is super cute with a cool feng shui. My sister came with and she was able to sit right by me while I got my hair braided. I had Katie. Katie braided my hair with the extensions I brought in and she did an outstanding job. I showed her a few pictures and explained what I was thinking, and Katie did exactly what I asked for. I definitely want to book Glowout for my wedding day. I felt like Katie did a great job keeping me comfortable the entire appointment and she was really easy to talk to. Impeccable customer service and great blowouts. Jenn the owner is fantastic. Always ready with champagne in hand. She offered to walk down and put our names in at Bar Siena while we were getting our blowouts. Devin did my blowout and she did a great job. I've been there 3 times now, and each time I've walked away happy. The space is beautiful, clean and relaxing and they do a great job on hair (haven't used for other services). Jenn was super nice and attentive and you do not feel uncomfortable almost naked in front of her lol! I decided against the trial before my wedding (yes I know, very risky) but it all worked out great! I am VERY fair skinned, pink tones and basically never have been tan from the sun in my life. I was concerned I'd be orange or too brown that I looked unnatural but that wasn't the case! I looked great and extremely even! All over no streaks or splotches. I got the express so I could shower in two hours (however I was running errands so it was more like 4 hours ) I bought a little thing of body wash and lotion to help maintain the tan -together was maybe $12 additional dollars. Not bad! Definitely kept my skin from drying and kept the tan about a week/5-6 days. I thought maybe the tan would last longer on my honeymoon but I'd say it really only lasts a week. And once I swam in the ocean and in chlorine the tan faded (of course) but not streaky which is nice to know too! read more

You know how on T.V. you see stylists asking clients about their hair, and how they want it to look? Or talking about what colors (warm vs. cool) are better for their skin tones? I have never had anyone ask me that, and I have been getting my hair colored for over 12 years! This is something that really impressed me about Amie, she knows hair, and she knows how to make you look great! I went in for highlights and a cut, and walked out with beautiful hair. Amie, made me feel comfortable and was really friendly and out going. I didn't feel awkward or that conversation was forced. The salon is gorgeous and really well taken care of. Amie did not try to sell the products, which I always appreciate. I actually ended up buying the hair spray she used because I loved it, but it was nice to make that choice on my own! The prices are super reasonable in my opinion, and absolutely worth it! I made a follow-up appointment and am excited to have found such a great hair salon in Chicago! I recently made a trip to Chicago to see some friends. My trip was last minute and did not have time to tan before I left Florida (go figure, ever Florida resident should be tan no matter what). When I arrived in Chicago my friend saw how sickly white I was and recommended Golden Girl. Jenn came to my hotel room. She set up her "tan tent" and went to work. My tan was even, I had NO streaking and NO creasing. Jenn made me feel very comfortable and was very sweet. The next time I travel to Chicago, I will have her spray me. Jenn was absolutely amazing. I cannot say enough how awesome she is. First of all, she did a fantastic job on my spray tan, looking to make sure that I didn't have any weird splotches. As we were almost finished with my tan, I started to feel faint and she had me sit down, brought me 3 glasses of water and crackers, and had me sit for a few minutes before finishing. She looked at places where I got a little sweaty and cleaned them off for me and sprayed them to make sure my tan didn't turn out strange from a sweat mark. I cannot recommend Glowout and, more specifically, Jenn enough. What a fantastic business and absolutely wonderful people! My only advice is that parking was pretty tough to find. I would recommend doing a SpotHero or showing up at least 20 minutes early to look for a place to park! I will definitely be back in the future! read more

If you are looking for the BEST airbrush tan in Chicago (or anywhere for that matter)- this is the place to go. I've been going to Golden Girl for about a year now (I've gotten 5-6 airbbrush tans) & I am always thrilled with how it looks. Jenn is extremely talented and passionate about what she does. She's also super accomodating & quick to respond to emails, which makes scheduling a tan a breeze. As other reviewers have said, Jenn takes great care to make sure your tan looks fantastic- from making sure your make up & deodorant is off to wiping your wrists & feet to avoid lines- she does it all. We used their nail and hair services for our December 2015 wedding. I would recommend this vendor. They were responsive, friendly, and provided an OK product for the price. The manicures were fine, but the no-chip did not last long. I was unhappy after my curls fell after the first hair trial. They let me do a second trial for free but that still didn't stay for more than a few hours. On the wedding day, the stylist, Brittany, used better product and I was happy with how well it held up. One of my bridesmaids was very happy and said she received the best updo she ever got for a wedding. read more

I came here based on the great reviews to get a spray tan before my wedding and had the Best experience! It turned out I knew the girl who sprayed me, Meggy, through my then-fiancé which could've made the process even More awkward than it already can be to bare it all, but it wasn't one bit! She was so sweet (complimenting my "wedding arms" -- the Best compliment a bride to be can ask for!) and professional. I also just trusted she knew what she was doing, and she did! The spray tan itself turned out great. I didn't have any orange or blotchy spots -- sometimes my feet and ankles hold too much color but didn't here!! The solution doesn't smell bad like many others, didn't stain (and I of course was decked out in white every chance I got for my wedding week ;)) and it's minor, but at the end they dusted some kind of fragrance powder on to help with that. I can't say enough great things about my experience at Glowout. My pasty white skin needed to be tanned (and fast) for my weekend trip to Vegas and Glowout definitely delivered. The salon itself is so beautiful. It's decorated so tastefully, feminine and modern. Just a fun atmosphere to be in. All the women there were so friendly and accommodating. I felt like I knew them for years. Megan did an amazing job on my spray tan and I could tell she paid so much attention to detail. And let's face it, being naked getting spray tanned in front of someone you just met is going to be awkward, but Megan made me feel like it was no big deal. That is a gift. Could not have asked for a better experience. Took my bestie here for bday manis and blowouts and the attention Jenn, Brittany, and Jacqui gave us was like no other from the second we walked in. They each listened to what we wanted but put their own spins on the styles and we left looking and feeling like movie stars. The ladies were also all very warm and we had a great time chatting and joking around with them, I find that hard to come by with a lot of stylists in Chicago. With the number of glowing reviews the salon has, I expected my spray tan to be perfect and I'm disappointed to say it wasn't. I carefully followed the guidelines on their website in preparing for my appointment and advised the technician about my retinol use. I've only gotten a spray tan one other time at another salon and though the tan itself was not great, it really seemed like that technician had a lot of experience and guided me through the process. At Glowout, this was not the experience I had. Overall, the tan is okay though it's definitely uneven in some parts, my face was incredibly splotchy the following day, my hands were orange, particularly in my knuckles and both of my elbows were streaky. I'm not sure if this was just an isolated situation or if the tech is relatively new but after this experience, I think I'd be better off using self tanner at home. She did follow up with me the day after to check in about my tan and provided a few options for correcting the issue, one being to purchase Nair or to rub gently on the areas in the shower. I used an exfoliating scrub multiple times in the shower, made a paste from baking soda and lemon juice, tried using a little Windex and also sat with the solution used to remove hair dye from skin - I don't think any of these actually helped to lighten my hands or even out the streaks on my elbows. Maybe the quality of your spray tan here is dependent on the technician and I would have had a better experience with someone else but overall, my first impression of this salon wasn't great and I don't think I'd go back. read more

Such a great experience! This was my first time actually having someone professionally spray me, and since it was initially for a trial for my wedding day, I was a bit concerned. But after meeting Megan I felt incredibly comfortable and at ease that she was going to make me look great - and she did! Meg is soo awesome at what she does! I asked for just a base that would give me some color since we were having a winter wedding and I didn't want to look too dark, and she gave me just the right amount of glow! The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars was because of parking - which is only street parking. I've never posted a review of anywhere before but I've also never disliked a spray tan before. I've been getting spray tans for ten years and I've never experienced being unable to have an input in the color used on your own body. I had absolutely no say in the color that was used (despite asking several times and even stopping her) and I'm currently a red shade that is so far from what i wanted (I typically prefer a sun-kissed olive shade not whatever the hell this is). I was told to shower exactly 4 hours after my appointment and was given a time card as a reminder. I followed the instructions even though this, again, is not something i've ever had other salons tell me. My legs are now as white as they were before the appointment while the rest of me looks pink and slightly burned, and the eczema patches on my arm have retained a 3rd degree burned look which is really not cute. I was really disappointed in this experience. the ambiance was cute but my experience was the weirdest and worst I've ever had. I asked lots of questions because I was so confused and was met with a bit of attitude and no reassurance. Definitely will not be returning. I didn't think it was possible not to like a spray tan. read more

Golden Girl Chicago was just what I was looking for! I've been going to an expensive over-priced salon and I was sick of spending so much money and for hair that I didn't love. I was referred to Amie Miller at Golden Girl Chicago by a colleague of mine who has gorgeous movie star hair and she told me to go see Amie. Such a cute place and they make you feel so welcome, it's like you're going to their home. I am so glad I called Amie because she is an amazing colorist and stylist with lots of experience. I had about 2 inches of grow out and a cut that was so hard to style that I desperately needed a good cut. Amie asked me my hair routine to figure out what would work best for me and my lifestyle. Since I will only spend 5 to 10 minutes a day on my hair she gave me the cutest shag bob that is extremely flattering and so easy to style in the mornings. I also have natural hair color that I call "Dirty Dishwater Blonde Hair" and she gave me a beautiful Champagne, Rosy Blonde Highlights that she actually matched to my eye color. My skin color looks warmer and it really brightened up by eyes and face and I need that in the winter! I will be back there in 7 to 8 weeks for my next cut & color and will try the Spray Tan with Jenn next. Can't wait, thanks Amie! :) read more

I love this place. I've been here twice now, once for a spray tan and once for a blowout (I ended up getting an incredible bun instead). Both times, I had an excellent experience! The atmosphere is really well styled to be comfortable and fun. I've only been here solo but this would be an excellent location for a bachelorette or wedding pre-party for ladies who want their hair styled / nails done together. Jen gave me the spray tan and she did a fantastic job. She makes you feel totally comfortable and provides expert spray tan coverage. The color turns out great. Jen's instructions for how to maintain the tan were also really helpful. I only get the occasional spray tan so I have only been once for this service, but this is where I will go for the next one. Brittany styled my hair for a wedding I was attending. I made an appointment for a blowout but changed my mind at the last minute to a bun/updo since it was a really hot day. She did an amazing job! She made my hair look even better than the photo that I brought in and the style lasted all night. I received so many compliments all night! I recently moved from Miami to Chicago and was having a hard time finding the right place to take my tresses, this place not only accommodated me when I was 40 minutes late but I left looking and feeling amazing!!!
