She is the master of blonde, a wizard at color and cuts, and just a downright amazing person who makes sitting in a chair for a few hours immensely enjoyable. The rest of the staff are amazing too- I can't speak to quality of service personally for anyone besides Katie W (though one of these days I need to try out a facial), but the constant traffic of people coming in for other services every time I'm there should speak to the rest of the kick ass professionals there. I have only been here twice, but I love Spa Social already! I've had an eyebrow wax and a haircut so far. Gia and Anna Marie are the nicest people ever! I recently moved into the area, so I've been looking for new salons to go to. I came for an eyebrow wax back in September. I started talking to Gia about how often I should be waxing my eyebrows, and she said it really depends on the person. I feel like at a lot of waxing places, they always recommend 3 weeks so that you continue to go for their services, so I appreciate that she said to come when I felt like I needed a wax. They also do free trims. I got my haircut last week. First of all, I'd like to say, this was the first time I've ever had a stylist point out where my part is and stick to cutting my hair with my part the way I like it. Anna Marie is awesome! There have been countless times in which a stylist has asked me how I like to part my hair, and completely disregard what I said and proceed to give me a middle part. Trust me, if I could rock the middle part, I would. In stark contrast to a certain salon near by, I love that Spa Social isn't pushy with products or services. I got my very first facial with Gia and am now a true believer. I have problem skin and have avoided getting facials for years because I was nervous about how my skin would react, but after reading reviews from others with similar issues who said their skin looked great afterward, I decided to take the plunge. Gia asked appropriate questions to evaluate my skin and was very gentle and thorough. She gave a nice neck/shoulder/hand massage. At the end, my skin didn't look too red or irritated at all (I went in a store on the way home, and didn't feel self-conscious or like I had to rush home and hide!), and the next day it looked much healthier than it had before the facial. (I followed her recommendation of not putting any makeup or product on after the facial.) This is going to become a regular part of my skincare routine; I'm already thinking about when to schedule my next appointment. Given her incredible level of service and attention I received when I made my appointment earlier in the week, I was not totally surprised by this. Not only is the location perfectly convenient for me, but the space is warm and inviting, and it has been beautifully rehabbed. Gia greeted me when I walked in, and after a quick form and discussion of my skin concerns, she showed me to the cozy room for the facial. The entire process was very relaxing, and I loved all of the Dermalogica products that were used. I had my first facial ever with Gia. Admittedly, I've probably needed a facial for 5 years but was always too intimidated to do it until friends started asking me if I was always tired. Boo... I went in to Spa Social for a facial and it 100% turned my skin around. I was super nervous walking in for the appointment and, by the time, I left, I was glowing putty. Something about Gia's manner, and the vibe of the place, made me feel comfortable and like I was among friends. I'm one of those lucky gals with mild acne AND some wrinkles (which is completely unfair). Whatever Gia used (Dermalogica products) plumped-up my skin, took off some the rough dry spots, and evened-out the oily spots. I was expecting to break-out after the treatment but I didn't. It's been a good month since the facial and my skin still looks so much better than before I went. Gia gave me a hand and arm massage while product soaked in and there wasn't pan-flute music. Went here because of a GROUPON today and got a brazilian by Katie. She did a fantastic job on my hooha. I arrived a bit early and she available and took me right in. She asked questions up front, made me feel comfortable, and went right to work. It was a clean up job and this is the first time in the 5 years I've been getting Brazilians that I got wax, I usually only do sugaring. She was sooo fast, clean, and quick with everything. Found this place through Groupon. Parking was a nightmare, so it took me 20mins to find a spot (coming from someone who has been parking in Chicago for many years). Luckily, Katie was super awesome about me running late. Once I arrived, she took me straight back and asked about my waxing history. Katie was friendly, comforting and efficient. It only took about 10mins and she kept the conversation going to distract me. My previous esthetician would always put her hand on the area after waxing, which alleviates the pain, but Katie didn't do that so it hurt a bit more. I started trying to get ahold of this business in June to set up a party of 6 in September knowing they would book up. Emailed first like their website stated and received no response. Called and left a message and Gia called me back and asked for more info. We emailed back a couple times, each response from her took multiple attempts on my part, but she stated she could accommodate us. Last email came in middle of July. Followed up the first week of September since my last email again went unanswered only to find out Gia missed my last email and gave our appointments away. Now a mistake on her part leaves me scrambling. Terrible way to run a business! I went to Katie White to get my hair done and had an awful experience. First I went to get a haircut only which was fine. During this she complimented my color and I explained to her I finally found someone to a balayage my hair after someone told me they couldn't. She said it was really weird that someone wouldn't be able to balayage my hair. So then I went back for a balayage and when I get there she asked why I don't do highlights instead...Um hello because of the grow out. She then recommends to do some highlights, some balayage, with a shadow root. I tell her I trust her. SHE ENDED UP CHARGING ME FOR A HIGHLIGHT AND A BALAYAGE. I have never paid so much in my life (and I've been getting my hair done for 15 years in a lot of different major cities) and I didn't even get my hair cut. The kicker- it doesn't even look good. It's super gold in random parts which has never happened to my hair before. Disappointed to say the least. read more
