I went to Glowout recently for a spray tan prior to a Vegas trip & wedding. I arrived to my appointment early and they were able to get me in right away, which was a nice surprise. My technician was really friendly and made me feel comfortable. She asked what kind of look I was going for and which type of spray tan I wanted (regular or express). I chose the express so I could shower sooner, rather than having to wait 8 hours. I explained that I wanted it to look like a noticeable natural bronze, but not extremely shockingly tan. Based on my response, she told me to shower off in 2 hours. I'm not sure if my skin just didn't react properly to the tan or if I needed to leave it on longer, but it turned out more faint than I had hoped for. Although the color wasn't exactly what I wanted it to be, I will go back and try again when I have an occasion. Maybe next time I'll be better off with the traditional style of spray tan. read more

I found Golden Girl Chicago through my wedding planner Lindsay Stein Cohen of Designer Event Chicago and thank God I did!! I got married on a Friday night in October, so naturally my tan had faded from the summer. With all things wedding on my mind - I didn't have much time to run to go tanning every day, nor did I want to. Jenn at Golden Girl Chicago took care of me the Wednesday before my wedding and I have to say, it was the perfect Airbrush tan I have ever had. I have fairly sensitive skin and usually break out from any type of spray tan. However, Jenn's organic formula does not irritate my skin and better yet - looks natural! She is master of her craft! Now on to Amie! Amie did my hair for my wedding and I cannot tell you how awesome she is. When I walked into my initial trial for hair, I showed Amie a collection of pictures that I liked. She successfully put all of those pictures together on the FIRST try and VIOLA! We had my wedding hair. I had such a wonderful experience at Golden Girl last week. I went for a last minute spray tan before attending a wedding and loved the results. It looked natural and wasn't too dark/orange/etc. Jenn did a wonderful job explaining the process and making me feel very comfortable. She was also great about helping me figure out which tan option was the best one for my timing that day. I happened to be there the day they were doing a "bun and braid bar" for Lollapalooza, and they were so sweet to style my hair on the house for the rehearsal dinner event I was attending that night. Also, definitely one of the best lattes I've ever had! Overall, the vibe of this salon is wonderful. The atmosphere is very comfortable and relaxed and the staff is so friendly. I got the Original Tan, and Jen was fantastic. It was my first time, and she was great about walking me through the steps and letting me know what to expect. The instructions for how to prep on the site are incredibly helpful and I recommend following them as Jen made sure to ask if I had when I got there. She was also incredibly sweet and easy to talk to and made the entire experience really comfortable. My tan turned out great as well, and I was even given some Stay Golden lotion to take home for free. My tan looks completely natural the morning after (with a shower). Jen was even accommodating when I realized I had forgotten my credit card at home and was able to give her the numbers. She really is a gem. Additionally, the space is fantastic. It's a huge loft with exposed brick and fantastic furniture. Jen's cute and incredibly friendly dog was even there to greet me. Overall a great experience. I've tried an embarrassingly large number of blow out bars in Chicago and New York. I LOVED my experience at Glowout. The blowout and manicure were pretty much on par with every other place I've been to, but I can't say enough good things about the staff. I love this place. I have been here 3x now. The first time I went I was so nervous I almost turned around and said forget it before I even got there. The thought of being naked in front of a stranger freaked me out. And I was so scared I would be orange when leaving. So the first time I went I was going on a vaca to meet my now husbands family. I am a ghostly white and wanted some color so I could wear summer dresses. Jenn met me at the desk and asked me when my trip was. I lined up the appointment 4 days before because if I did turn orange then I could have some time to scrub it off. When I told Jen this she laughed and said to come back a day closer to my trip and assured me I would not be orange. Well I came back and Jen was amazing. As awkward as I felt she made me feel comfortable during the whole process. I came back two more times to get color before vaca and each time it was great. I LOVE this place! I went there for the first time last week and it was GREAT! I recently moved back to the area and walked past the storefront a couple times and even from the outside I thought to myself "what a cute place". I desperately needed to get my eyebrows done and when my go to place didn't have any availability until Sunday afternoon I decided to check out Glowout's website for prices. I called to see if they could fit me in and the girl who answered the phone was suuuuper friendly and asked if I had been there before, how I had heard about them etc. I explained to her that I had walked by a couple times and always thought the boutique was so cute from the outside and that it immediately sparked my interest because of the spray tan services (I'm very fair and like to get spray tans here and there) but I really just needed my brows done and would love to come back for a spray tan another time because I couldn't afford both at the time. Instead of leaving it at that, the girl on the phone told me about a great deal they have right now because they were training a new employee on spray tans. Since she was in training if I got my spray done by the new employee it would only be $20! For a service that usually costs $50-$60 I was SOLD! I thought it was so awesome that, that was even a thing! Most places would still charge well over $20 even from a trainee. So I booked my appointment and was able to get in within 2 hours of my initial call on a Saturday nonetheless. When I walked in I immediately loved the whole vibe. Aesthetically the salon was so trendy, welcoming, and just like the outside impression I first had SO cute. And on top of that everyone who worked there smiled at me when I walked in. All the girls were very friendly and professional. I got my eyebrows done first and then my spray... and both by the same girl which I liked for tipping purposes, it's just easier to tip one person in my opinion. Jamie the trainee spent a good 10-15 minutes on my brows which I appreciated because they turned out amazing and even told me she was going to leave a couple spots so certain areas of my brows could grow out for a fuller look that I wanted. Then we went on to do the spray tan which she spent like 20-30 mins on I think... another employee joined us in the room because Jamie was still training and she asked if I was comfortable with that before, which was nice because most places would just tell you instead of asking first. Since I've had many spray tans before I didn't care at all and said no problem. The two together made me feel like I was hanging out wit a couple of friends and it wasn't awkward at all. I was very impressed by the time and precision they took applying my tan. The place I used to go to which I also loved only took about 12-15 minutes including dry time. It was then I realized how good my tan was going to turn out. It's been almost a week since I got the spray tan and it STILL looks great! My brows too! I will most definitely be a returning customer, and I have already told all my friends how great my experience here was!! read more

I've been to Glowout two times now, both for the spray tan (I call it a spray tan, but I think, technically, it's an airbrush tan), and have been very happy with the results! Like a lot of people have said, Glowout is a little hard to find. It's right behind Au Cheval, and you ring the doorbell, they buzz you up, and you go up two flights of stairs before entering. The whole space is really cute, and both times I came in, I was greeted with a friendly hello. I had my spray tan done by Katie the first time. She was super friendly and made me feel very comfortable, which is so important when you're being sprayed by someone, and only wearing a tiny string thong. Haha. Katie was very vocal about important things to do, in order to make the spray tan develop perfectly (showering exactly when instructed, not washing my hands before showering, etc). I had the tan done two days before a wedding, and it turned out great. While the spray tans are a little pricey (I paid $70 for the express), you get a quality color that looks natural, lasts about 10 days, and fades evenly. That was my experience at least. If you want a spray tan done for a special occasion, the peace-of-mind that comes with knowing that they're going to give you a quality tan that looks even and natural, makes it worth the price. The second time I got a spray tan at Glowout, was when there was a $10 spray tan deal going on, for the girls that were training. I wanted to take advantage of the great deal, and I didn't have an event coming up, so I figured that if it didn't turn out perfectly because the person doing it was still learning, that would be okay. Brittany did my spray tan the second time, and it turned out just as perfectly as when Katie did it the first time!! I can tell that the owner, Jenn, really takes the employee spray tan training seriously. Brittany was also very sweet and made me feel comfortable. It was an overall great experience both times. Lastly, there have been a few times when I've had questions and sent an email directly to Jenn. Each time, she's responded promptly, and I really appreciated that. I had the worst time finding someone who could fix my hair, and maintain it. Pretty much whenever I researched a place and made an appointment, brought in a picture etc.. I always walked out not totally happy. I have A LOT of hair... the kind you never ever attempt to dye yourself because it will take $500+ to fix! (from experience) Needless to say I was worried when I found Golden Girl since every salon says they can do it better. Amie was NOT like that at all. She is not pretentious, the atmosphere is laidback and friendly, you feel comfortable immediately. I wanted an ombre (I know old fad) but a subtle one, I'm in medical sales so have to look professional, but also doing a degree in Biology.. so BUSY. I had to go in every 4-6 weeks to get a touch up, the ombre seemed like a good compromise. But I went to 7 places and no one really knew what an ombre was, or have good reviews. Amie is a color genius! We talked about what my goals were, what I liked and didn't like, and went to work. She got most of the "orange" tone out of my hair (everyone says I need to be beige but never get even close) I couldn't believe how much better my hair looked. This is a FIRST for me, walking in and walking out happy! You may say I'm a good hair virgin! She also cut my bangs and trimmed up the sides so they don't look heavy. There have been 2 people who actually cut my bangs correctly and Amie is one of them! I no longer have stringy, heavy bangs that I can't control without major brush and hairspray work. The price? Pretty much in same area as my local salons, maybe a bit more.. but worth it so you get what you want! BTW I was so impressed when my sister came to Chicago from Scotland and saw my hair.. she loved it and wanted to see Amie. My sister is probably the pickiest person, and didn't have a touch up for 6 months because she couldn't find anyone she trusted. Amie did a partial BUT this isn't your old school "partial" it's a mix of foil, ombre and balayage. Plus she got the perfect cut, since everyone always layers her hair. Even Though I don't have to go back for a long time due to the ombre, I really, really want to! P.S. Park in the parking lot down the block in the afternoon, it's $5 and street parking is tow zone during rush hour! I had a nice big sticker on my car, and possibly a finger or two for blocking traffic when I went the first time... read more

I bought a Gilt City deal for a blow out, and because of that started to look at the salon online. I needed a spray tan for a wedding and decided to book here and check the place out. The décor is very modern and beautiful. It would be such a fun place to come have your hair done with friends. Megan did my spray tan and was very nice and fun to talk to. I was brought back to a private booth and they had everything I needed, including disposable underwear and a cap to protect my hair. Megan did a great job of applying the tan, and afterwards she used the air from the tanning gun to lightly spray a nice smelling powder all over to keep me from feeling too sticky afterwards. I cannot tell you how EXCITED I am whenever I book a spray tan appointment with Jenn or Amie!! They are both the sweetest dolls ever. Golden Girl Chicago is very professional (so they've seen it ALL) and really make your visit, whether your 1st or 21st, comfortable. I always feel a bit awkward when the spray begins since its a bit chilly, NOTICEABLY chilly. But again, they've seen it ALL so I KNOW I'm not the only one nippin' out. The girls truly make you feel like you've been friends forever. I've never seen a better glow than what comes out of Golden Girl Chicago. You can really tell the difference between a tanning bed tan and being outside in the sun. Golden Girl's tans make you look sun-kissed and NATURAL. I needed a last minute spray tan as I was flying into Chicago two days before my wedding and didn't want to book anything too far in advance. I called glowout after reading on yelp and I am so thankful I did. This was by far the best spray tanning experience I have ever had. From the girls working, to my artist spraying me, to the cute puppy on the couch, everyone was so sweet, nice, and made me feel so comfortable. They gave me tanning tips for before the spray and exact instructions for after. I was still hesitant when i got back to the hotel, but after showering 2 hours later and letting it develop until the next day, it went from pretty to incredible. I have been to glowout once before in the summer, I loved the color and the application, so for NYE I decided to treat myself to another premium spray tan. Everyone is so nice and the spray application was awesome! Unfortunately, I went with the express tan and followed their instructions but the color came in very light. Very disappointed in my experience here. The salon is in a very weird location, with a pretty dirty entrance. The products used are cheaper in brand then many other blow out salons I've been to. The hair "washing station" was a very uncomfortable sink, the hair dryer & brush quality were not up to standards to other blew out bars in the area & the actual blowout was very subpar- with my hair looking not much different than after I dry it myself, without a "blowout." I would not recommend this salon. read more
