A Lesson For Today - Today my mini's & I were turned away from two nail salons. Both stated walk ins were welcome, neither had a wait. They made us wait, asked what we wanted done & after hearing that we wanted mani pedis they brought up staffing or stated we needed an appointment to be served! I have to be completely honest & say that it really didn't sit right with me. As a business owner myself, I can understand staffing & scheduling issues. What I refuse to support is people who are in the people business that don't have a heart for them. If you don't like dealing with the public don't choose a job that requires you to deal with them day in & out. This has reinforced a lesson I've taught each of my kids. Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work. A customer is the most important visitor on your premises, he is not dependent on you. You are dependent on him. He is not an interruption in your work. He is the purpose of it. He is not an outsider in your business. He is part of it. You are not doing him a favor by serving him. While I enjoy complimentary wine while getting a pedicure, this place isn't worth it. I always get gel polish to save on time and I decided to book an appointment for a detox pedicure. After reading reviews, the service I was provided was not a detox pedicure. I asked the lady (Michelle) who did my nails because something seemed off and she blatantly lied. I had a good first experience at Glow Nail Bar! It was clean, and bright! I really like the way they are set up, and their decor. The lights hanging from their ceiling add a nice touch. I went in without an appointment for a pedicure and a dip manicure (around 10/10:30am on a Friday). I was seated at a pedicure station within about 5 minutes. Alexis, my nail tech, was nice and is good at what she does. She did a really great job at making my feet softer (they were pretty rough looking, and feeling, when I walked in). She took her time and my feet look and feel so much better! Alexis also did my dip manicure, and it looks beautiful! The other nail techs that I interacted with at Glow were great as well. I have been going to this nail salon for 3 years. The upkeep of the salon has been going downhill since it's gotten new management. The hand washing area is dirty, the brushes are old and dirty and the last two times I've come for my regularly scheduled services, there have not been clean towels to dry your hands. I've seen bugs in the salon, which was unheard of in the past. The massager on the chair I was sitting in for my service last week was not working. A few weeks ago there were not enough jets available so I did not have that as part of my service. Since new management, there's also a one drink minimum policy, which was unheard of. If I'm in the salon for 2 or more hours, spending over $100, i take insult with this policy. Do not penny pinch and decline in the quality of the service. That's the whole reason I've been coming to this salon since i moved here, the quality of services and the cleanliness. Also, the prices have increased but the services have declined. That is absurd! The only reason I come to this salon is because I have a great nail tech who takes great care of me! Kudos to Katt and Wilmary for their great service and welcoming and kind spirits. I advise the new management to do better with keeping the salon in great shape because I'm going to be searching for a new place soon if there are not changes. read more

All in all: 1--Alicia knew that there would not be two technicians to work on us both but still accepted us and lied about another person coming for Luna's toes 2--Alicia did not wear gloves while working on my toes 3--Alicia used the same buffer, file, cuticle snipper and toe nail trimmer on both my friend and I without sanitizing it after each use 4--Alicia charged my friend Luna with a "quick pedicure" when all she asked for was a simple polish change (if that's not on the menu she should have told us and we would have declined the quick pedi) 5--most importantly, Alicia did a poor job. On Wednesday evening around 5:55, my best friend and I decided to stop by Glow Nail Bar to get two pedicures, because of the "raving" reviews online. We called in and spoke to Alicia who told us that we had to arrive prior to 6:15. We were worried about traffic being an issue so we asked if we drove the 30 minutes to get there, would we still receive service. At first she told us we had to make an appointment the following day. We told Alicia we couldn't make it tomorrow could we still come in, and she replied thats fine. We arrived around 6:20 (earlier than expected) and Alicia greeted us as we walked in. As we both got seated, Alicia asked "who wanted to go first?" and so she started on me. Alicia then told my friend Luna that someone was coming in to work on Luna's toes. Alicia said that the other technician was doing a supply errand run and should be back shortly. We said okay and we waited. While Alicia was working on my toes I noticed she wasn't wearing any gloves. If Alicia didn't like wearing gloves that's fine; she doesn't care about germs and contaminating herself, but she should have thought about how I felt having her long acrylic nails digging into my skin as she "massaged" me for 2 minutes. I let that go. The pedicure lasted a few minutes longer. The pedicure process was not worth the price and the paint job was sloppy. She filed my nails so crooked that when I got home my boyfriend noticed. (MEN NEVER NOTICE ANYTHING) As my pedicure was coming to an end Luna asked if someone was still coming to do her toes. It had been at least 20 minutes and clearly we came together and I was almost already done. That's when Alicia told us that the person that was supposed to be coming for Luna may or may not show up because today is her day off. ???? This was very fishy. Obviously there was no one coming and Alicia wanted to cover that up from the beginning by saying someone WAS coming. This is when Luna realized that Alicia would be doing her pedicure too. She decided to decline the pedicure and asked for a SIMPLE POLISH CHANGE. Alicia said "yeah sure, don't worry, I can do that." So Alicia took Luna's feet out of the water and started removing the polish...WITHOUT EVEN WASHING HER HANDS FIRST. Alicia had been working on MY TOES and then just slid her chair over to Luna's station and started working on her! Alicia is lucky that we're best friends cause that is just disgusting. But it just kept getting worse. Alicia then grabbed the tools that were on my pedicure station that she had used on me AND STARTED USING THEM ON LUNA. She didn't even pretend to go to the back of the salon and grab another set of tools. She outright did it in front of us while maintaining a smile. IT WAS DISGUSTING. Surely that can't be up to State Board sanitary standards. About 7 minutes into Luna's polish change we looked at each other and started to realize that Alicia was putting in too much work. She was trimming cuticles and that's usually not included in a polish change in any salon we've ever been in. Luna and I knew that she would probably charge at least $20 for this quick polish change. And we were right. In the end, both Luna's toes and my toes were crooked with botched paint jobs. And Alicia charged us $30 for my full pedicure and $20 for Luna's polish change which ended up being a "quick pedicure." I suppose the price was correct for the work that she had put into Luna's toes trimming cuticles and such, but that's not what Luna asked for. Alicia should have confirmed the price and procedure with the client (Luna) before working on her and blindly charging us for another service. We left the salon more than disappointed with our bad pedicures and seriously annoyed that we had to pay for someone to swindle us with their lack of professionalism and unsanitary use of tools. Just because we're two young ladies does not mean we don't know when service is bad and methods are unsanitary! We didn't say anything but we're also nail technicians ourselves so we could spot a shotty job. I cannot speak for the whole salon because we were only served by Alicia. But I would think twice before giving Glow Nail Bar a second chance. I really hope the owner contacts me because this was disgusting. read more

This is a follow up to a previous review I gave for Glow Nail Bar. It was only after the owner read my 'not so glowing' comments, that she contacted me. I agreed to go back in and have her take a look at my nails. She explained the reason for the very thick gel polish, and she said she did it thick so that my nails wouldn't break. I wished she had asked me, because I didn't like how bulbous and thick my nails looked. So, when I returned two days ago, I decided to just have the gel polish taken off this time, and had her put a coat of regular, clear polish on them. When I went to the sink to wash my hands before polishing, I noticed one nail on my right hand that looked like I'd developed fungus. When I returned to my chair, I mentioned this to the nail tech (the 8owner, Michelle). She immediately stated, "That's not fungus, because fungus is green." I looked at it a bit more, and decided not to argue with her, despite my better judgment (I was 99% sure it WAS fungus). She didn't charge me when I left, and I thanked her and left a tip. That was Monday. Today is Wednesday, and I've had time to look more closely at the condition of my nails, and I actually have fungus under three nails, two of which have caused the nail to lift and separate from the nail bed. There is also obvious layers of gel polish remaining on some of my nails, so the surfaces are rough and uneven. My nails are wrecked. I called the spa this a.m. and told Michelle. She was immediately defensive, quick to tell me I was wrong, that what I'm seeing is NOT fungus, as she seems to think that fungus doesn't grow under the nail, instead, it grows on top of it. I'm shocked, as I'm certain that nail techs go to school and are licensed, so they should have a very good understanding of these things. I explained to her that because she did such a thick application of the gel polish, my nails couldn't breathe and were starved of light, so that's why I got fungus. She went silent, as I could tell she didn't wasn't going to be receptive to my concerns. I was a cosmetologist years ago, and I also wore acrylic nails for years, so I know what causes fungus, what it looks like, and where it grows. I ended the call because I felt like she had her mind set. I leave this follow up review because this nail bar owner has caused an issue with my nails that I want to tell others about. A mistake or ignorance is cool, as we are all human, but it's clear to me that this woman's ego and lack of knowledge is hurting her business. I will not be returning to Glow Nail Bar, and advise others to beware. I gave her two chances, but my nails are a mess now. read more

Alright, I was torn between 4 and 5, so here is my reasoning. I have always made an appointment when visiting Glow. Their online system is a mess sometimes, so it's safer to just call. I promise they are friendly. That being said, I have always had to wait when I come here. Is it a big deal - no - but if you are pressed for time, be aware that they often are busy and run behind since they take their time. They offer tons of services, from pedicures to funky manicures (I most recently did the cat eye in a gorgeous fall plum and it was perfect!). They don't have a receptionist, but they have always made a point to come say hi and let me know where they are with the appointment ahead of mine so I have a good idea of a wait time. My manicures and pedicures have been flawless. Most recently, I was getting a gel and halfway through it got a strange fiber on/in it - Crystal (I hope that is her name!) saw it and immediately began fixing it, leaving my new manicure pristine. They also have a loyalty card that you can use each visit to work towards a free manicure! On a side note, no one handles my cuticles as well as Glow does. The polish selection is definitely where they shine for me - they have regular polish, gels, cat eyes, foils, and powder dips. I love having so many options! Aside from the wait time, I love everything about Glow! The staff are incredibly friendly and easy to chat with while you have your service done. Their pricing is on par with other salons I visit and I've never been disappointed by the quality of their work, which is worth the wait time for me. read more

I wish there were negative stars. My daughter flew in town to celebrate my birthday. I made appointments for us several days in advance. Michelle the person in charge even helped make the appointments. We arrived and had to wait over an hour to get service started. Due to walk ins being taken first. Michelle then told me my appointments we not put in computer right by someone and i had to explain she did it. I heard sorry non Stop and nothing was done to correct the situation. One employee just stood there in store complaining about clients rather loudly. One lady had to have her nails redone cause they were wrong. Finally after finishing the pedicure we were told we were going to have to wait for nails. We had the entire day planned and tickets for a show that night. Again Michelle apologized and then did two more walk ins. I requested my nail tech just do my manicure while we were in the pedicure chairs. My daughter was not even able to do that because her nail tech went to do another appointment. I have a friend who made appointment and waited over 2 hours the previous week and i thought maybe it was just a fluke. However it seems to be standard. I will never return. Just moved to charleston and was looking to for an affordable nail salon. This had good reviews, I was able to get an early morning appointment, was seated as soon as I got there. The place is clean and pretty inside. They use a new set of nail care supplies with each client which I found to be a plus!! The quality of the nail paint and job done is great! Place is clean and cute inside. I want to like it since it's close to my house but after 3 trips with different techs I've never been satisfied. This last time was the worst- nearly $60 for a soak off and dip- not only did it look like I had a week of grow out, on some nails the dip didn't even reach the side. I made an appointment online for 10:45 with Wilmary for a pedicure. I was not seated till 11:00 to soak my feet and I was not serviced by Wilmary either. This was my first time going to Glow Nail Bar. I only chose Wilmary because I saw the review about her here on yelp and they were good. Just beware this place is busy and when you make an appointment you might not get who you requested online. However after I was finally seated I was serviced by Alexis. Alexis was great! Went back in July 19th to get my gel polish on my nails soaked off and changed and a pedicure. Got clear glitter polish on all my nails and stepped out the shop feeling sparkly. Until today. The acrylic and gel polish are starting to lift as usual after almost having them on for 4 weeks. Been noticing my left thumb nail looked darker than the rest but I assumed because there was more polish on this nail than all the others. I pop it off and what do you know, my nail is black! Was really hoping this was going to be my new place to go to since its so close. Where to begin.......... I found this nail salon on Yelp of course. The reviews are true! This is a wonderful find! Clean salon, friendly AND talented nail techs! This by itself gives them 5+ stars...but wait, there is more, so much more! I had a base fill for acrylic nails and gel nail color, and the price.... well wow!!! Is this at all possible? YES! My nails have NEVER looked this good (at least in Charleston). Next time I'll try out the pedicures! The chairs look comfy and everything is new and clean. The decor is just perfect. Super good prices, friendly service, great finished product (nails) incredible selection of high quality designer nail polishes, beverages and all with a SMILE! Love that I understand everything they are saying....lol....no....REALLY!! If you get your nails done elsewhere you probably know what I mean. So happy with this salon. Highly, highly recommend! This nail salon is very stylish and has the cutest decor. They seem to have all of the most current tools and equipment...from the pedicure chairs to the desk lighting at the manicure tables. I was very impressed with how light and clean the nail salon was. I was greeted immediately upon entering. While I was picking out my nail color, my nail tech came up to me and introduced herself and offered me a beverage. They had a selection of bottled water, soda, wine, and they can make mimosas. The young lady (Alicia) was so polite and friendly. She was very thorough and took her time with both my pedicure and mani. We had great conversation and I had a good time. I'm on Folly - so it's roughly an hour drive and I don't think twice about doing it. Wilmary does amazing and I mean AMAZING nail art - none better in Charleston. Every time I leave I'm complimented on who did my nails. Every. Time! Depending on what I have going on - they'll last 3-4 weeks. She paid great attention to detail and didn't miss a spot. The staff was incredibly hospitable during my time there and even offered me wine at 9 AM which I got a great laugh out of. DO NOT patronize this place! Beware...I am so disappointed with the service I received! Went here because it was close to my job and I needed a fill-in! Got a full set done from another place and had no issues for 3.5 weeks. Went to this place and they ruined my new set of tips by filing too much acrylic off and making them thin and they started popping off! I didn't want to return but no one would fix because of the way they looked So I called and was told they were busy and could not service me! I asked for management and was told to come in. After hanging up, I reached in my purse for my keys and another broke off! Once inside, the creator of the mess who's feelings I was trying to protect because clearly she wasn't experienced, did not even greet me! The manager Michelle kept saying that the nails weren't thin and that the issue was from when I got my full set. She did not want to hear that too much acrylic was filed off even with me showing her from the one that was broken and hanging off that there was hardly any acrylic left on the nails. My nails are lumpy and the polish has marks like it wasn't dry. Some are crooked, some are square and some are rounded. I was in a hurry for work when they were done and was going to reshape myself agin to not hurt the young girls feelings but losing nails was a no after paying 47 bucks! I asked to redo my fill and she wanted to charge me another 50 bucks when clearly the two nails she did today made the others look like they were two weeks old and it's only been 3 days! There was only two people working both days and now I know why and I also think their is acrylic is watered down because in all the years of getting my nails done, I never experienced having to sit and wait for the acrylic to dry from one hand to the other nor have my nail beds has ever burned while in the gel polish dryer! My nail bed burned so bad that I snatched my hand out of the machine before it could finish and she didn't even file that finger! I had grown my nails out to have the coffin shape and they looked so bad, I stopped at dollar general to get a file to file them down to the short look on my way home. I discovered Glow months ago through Instagram and Facebook. I couldn't stay away for long because the designs they posted were so cute and after reading reviews on Facebook, it seemed like a great place to try. So I did, and I had great experiences there. I stopped going regularly around June because I had my baby. I was excited to go back and get my eyebrows done. Usually Shannon had done them for me and she always did a great job. Recently, I have gone there twice and had issues with an aesthetician. The first time I went to her she was new to me as I hadn't seen her before, maybe she works during the days and not evenings (which was when I used to always come). But I trusted Glow overall, so I extended that trust to her. I could feel that the wax wasn't being applied to the whole length of my brow. Just certain places and spots. I shrugged it off and told myself to wait until she was done. When she finished, there were still stray hairs around my brow. Laying down still, my eyebrows seemed alright and I tipped her and went home. Got home and my husband pointed out how one brow was thicker than the other. I looked in the mirror and he was right. It was bad enough that I wanted to get it fixed so I called the salon and explained what happened. I came right in and Ashley fixed them by hand with a tweezer and did a outstanding job. About a week or so ago, same situation. Except this time I wasn't going to leave with uneven brows. She began to get really upset at me saying she "doesn't shape brows" and that she "only cleans up the stray hairs". Usually wherever I go to get brows done, they are not only cleaned up from obvious new hair growth, but they are shaped as well. I don't mean eyebrow darkening or applying makeup to shape them. I mean basic eyebrow shaping that usually happens when you get your brows waxed/threaded/tweezed. She kept pressuring me to allow her to take off the excess hair in an effort to even them out. I told her no twice and asked to speak to whoever was in charge so I can try to work this out. After more back and forth, she finally let me talk to the tech in charge at the moment. There wasn't going to be another aesthetician in for 30 mins. So I waited and Tatiana fixed my eyebrows. I was told that the other aesthetician doesn't really do shaping at all and to request others that are more familiar with shaping. But my issue is, I should be able to trust any aesthetician to shape my brows at Glow. Or if a staff member isn't good at it, she should let it be known up front and let a customer know what she is good at. Not after my brows are very much obviously uneven, and getting upset at me because I refuse to leave with uneven brows. As a mom, this was my place to unwind and relax. To do something for me even if it is just an eyebrow wax. Being a military family our schedule isn't reliable so making an appointment for my eyebrows isn't optimal because I may not be able to make it every time. So walk in is my best option. As a walk in I don't mind waiting. That comes with the territory. But the aesthetician who messed up my brows both times made me feel like I was in the wrong for wanting even and clean eyebrows. $12 is a lot for someone who "doesn't shape," and sadly because I've had this experience twice I don't want to risk going back and running into her every time making my visit awkward and stressful. If you're her for a mani, pedi, full set, or a gel mani then I highly recommend Glow. If you're here for an eyebrow wax, I wouldn't really recommend it unless you know you're choosing someone who knows how to wax eyebrows. read more

I'm new to the area. They asked me to leave a review so here it is. The only thing good about this place is the lady have good conversations at times. But overall this place isn't it. They rush doing your nails. I have to beg for cuticle oil. No base coat. Burning. No soap when time to wash your hands. Pink mold and mildew in the foot tub. I had such a terrible experience here! My entire family and I traveled to Charleston for my sisters wedding and we booked gel mani's and regular pedi's for myself and the bride and a full set for another sister 3 weeks in advance online. We planned for spray tans afterwards factoring in extra time the nail location would need. this was a Wednesday morning around 9:45 am. I apologize I can't remember the two women's names because I'm not even sure they introduced themselves. Upon arriving to the nail salon at our scheduled times, there was 1.5 people working there for 3 of us! the manager mumbled something about one girl just not showing up to work, but never addressed the lack of staff for the appointments scheduled well in advance. The bride and I "soaked" our feet in the pedicure water for a full hour while one girl started on the full set. (hello girl number 2, what are you doing??) After soaking for about an hour and a half, the other girl started on the bride's toes. I waited for her entire pedicure to be done (now at 1.5 hours past my appointment time with no service to me) and then the girl started on me while the bride sat there, no one there to even address her nails since the full set was still being done. After 2 hours, they finally offered us a drink. At this point 2 hours in and just pedicures done, the last thing I could think about was a drink because I was too busy calling our spray tan location and moving our appointments for that because they were making us so late! Once the full set was done, the only other employee there (instead of starting on the bride's nails) literally sat down on her phone "because she had another appointment" who walked in 20 minutes later. I think the gel mani would have been almost done by then?? So finally the girl "assisting" us (possibly owner/manager) started on our nails and didn't even soak our nails and still charged us full price for a gel manicure. she rushed through both of our nails, one after the other, and did a terrible job. She then had the nerve to charge us an extra 8 dollars to our pedicures because we asked for a French on them! How about you offer to take some service off? after 3.5 hours in the salon, miserable service and making us have to miss and move our spray tan appointments, I expected a little more than a womping 78 dollar bill for the service that was poorly provided in an unsatisfactory amount of time. When your entire family is traveling for a wedding, who wants to spend that long in a nail salon for basic services? While not from the area, I will never come here again if given the opportunity and neither will my sister who lives right around the corner from the salon. there are plenty of salons in the area who would absolutely do a much better job. I would suggest hiring reliable staff as well. What a disappointment! read more

Update... visited three times. Second time the owner did my nails and they were good. By the third time she was out and someone else did my nails, by the second day the gel manicure was chipping. Before one week was up my nails looked a mess. Back to the drawing board. read more

If you would have talked to me when I left I would have given it a 3-4 star. However within 4-5 days later my nails (I had a gel manicure) were peeling off and chipping. I had a special event to go to and no time to get them re done so you can imagine my disappointment. I got a pedicure and a gel manicure. I paid $75.00 including tip and am extremely unsatisfied. I reached out to them multiple times in email form and through their website, and no one has had the curtesy to get back with me. I am always in search of "my favorite" nail salon. I visited Glow over a month ago. I made an appointment for mani and pedi. The atmosphere was super cool and different setup. BUT there was a client who walked in off the street (with a waiting room full of clients) and they took her right in. She was talking LOUDLY on her cell phone for at least 40 minutes. I personally almost asked her to terminate the phone call as it was personal and obnoxious. The pedi was ok, just mediocre not what you expect from a $50+ pedicure. Barely any massaging nor was there much callus scrub. The mani was even worse there were jagged edges after filing, cuticle trim was minimal, and there was dried polish all on my fingertips. I had to ask that all these issues be addressed after each stage was completed. In the end it still looked awful. I got an email from the salon asking for feedback and responded similarly as above but received no response. Disappointed is an understatement read more
