On a trip this weekend, far from home, the spline on my Harley's shifter shaft ground down…read morecompletely. Barely any teeth left! This was very late in the day on Saturday and my shifter arm went sloppy riding Hwy 36 to the coast. I was clearly going to lose it. I made it to the motel and took the shifter arm off to try to create a shim to keep the shaft spline and the shifter arm engaged, but no such luck. I thought I was screwed and was scrambling trying to figure out how to get my bike back to the Bay Area. Incredibly, Mark of North Coast Cycle answered my call at 7am on a Sunday! And, despite his shop being closed on Sundays and Mondays, he agreed to meet me there to get a temporary fix in place to get me home safely. He had me up and running in a matter of minutes. This is a good shop, run by a good human. And he'll work on just about anything. In his words, Mark works "On anything that's street legal." Sure enough, looking around his shop, I saw Harleys, ADVs, some Japanese sport bikes, and European brands.

We've got an electric tricycle for one and a lighter bike for the other. *We want to get back earlier to make it to our next destination. No problem! We can turn around and return whenever you want. I highly recommend Wild Trail Tours for a first time experience riding an electric bicycle.

He gets everything arranged, gets you fitted with the right bike, and sends you out with a guide to get you through the forest on bikes. The guide we had today was Josh and he was very good! ( after biking he added his sweet dog, Annie, to the group for the rafting section!) along our biking he told us some fun facts about the Redwood Trees and some exotic plants! Our biking section of the day was GREAT! It is actually a perfect ride you start on pavement and then you end up on a gravel road with some uphills and some downhill but nothing super steep allowing you to take in the scenery. Can the forest be any more beautiful!! The trees are enormous!! Some have been burned, some struck by lighting, some both!! But they are still standing! After biking we drove to the Smith river where they laid out a great lunch! After lunch we geared up for river rafting down the Smith River, the only un-dammed river in California! It is spectacularly clear! Since we were here in June, the river was not super deep, but we did have some fun rapids and some really nice open spaces that were very mellow, allowing you to take in the scenery! For those more daring there is a stop where you can jump off rocks into the water. The rafting portion lasted about 2 to 3 hours. Our entire day started at 9:30 and we were done around 4 PM. I thought it was a fantastic way to spend the day! I highly recommend them.

We had…read moreone squeaky bike, but it soon became an inside joke because we could always hear where that person was along the road. Our bikes were dropped off at The Wooden Covered Bridge and we rode to the Grove of Titans. There are a few other hikes along the way. The road is mostly unpaved, but no big deal. You do have to yield to cars, but it also wasn't a problem. The company was easy to work with and super nice. This was the way to see this beauty area!
