These two stores are everything a sports store wants to be but these guys deliver. I can't say enough about their selections, the value, and the service. Their bike shop is fully stocked. We bought cycling shoes and they changed out the cleats for us, and I found a funky pair of shoes for myself. They also gave us lots of different road bikes routes to try. You probably don't know how good you have it. Lived in Arcata and this was my bike shop. I did try to "share the love" a bit and support other bike shops--but, these guys were where I went when I really needed something. Long story short, I moved away about 7 years ago. Currently live in Sacramento area. Have a problem with my bike (missing chain ring bolts) that are special SRAM parts. Visited two bike shops who have been helpful in the past--Nope, don't have em. Called three other shops--Nope, don't have em. One shop told me they wouldn't be available to order until June. The other said they could "probably have them for me in July!" Called Adventure"s Edge--"oh yeah, we have those, but can't ship them until Monday. Hmm, I guess I'll have to wait two days then. . .Thanks AE! Did I mention I moved away SEVEN YEARS AGO? And I had to spend an extra two minutes on the phone to get my address updated in their system. My advice? Go here first! read more

We are new to Eureka. When we first got here, I needed a new helmet. Adventure's Edge had a great selection, and Chris was very helpful. A few days later, we had our 3 bikes stolen from the RV park we are staying in. We went back to Adventure's Edge to replace the 2 mountain bikes. Again, they had a great selection, and my wife and I each found a great replacement. While ringing us up, Chris gave us a very nice discount. He didn't have to do it, but it sure made replacing our stolen bike a little less painful. Today, while driving down 4th st., I saw a guy riding one of my stolen mountain bikes. I was able to get it back but had no way to transport it home. I called Adventure's Edge, and Chris drove out to me and transported my bike back to his shop. Awesome bike shop. Everybody was super friendly and the mechanic was very knowledgeable and professional. I walked into another local bike shop and it seemed like I was bugging them. I'm not from here and took my bike out for a ride and got caught in the rain. I walked in and they were immediately welcoming even though I was wet, and their mechanic even cleaned my bike regardless of the weather conditions and lubed my chain. I bought all my bikes from Santiago Cycling in Tustin because they're the best, but out here in Eureka these guys take that spot. read more

The WORST customer service I have EVER experienced!!! I walked in planning to buy quite a few things, but the second I walked in the sales associates were rude, unfriendly and followed me around like I was goimg to steal something. I tried asking questions about a few items and they were short with me and rude. I was looking at a product next to the counter and all the employees could talk about was personal issues instead of helping me. Returning to Eureka after fifteen years was a trip. Gone is quaint, accommodating Eureka, now a mass of strip malls and bumper to bumper traffic. Somewhere hidden is HSU and I couldn't even find the Coop - one of the classic pit stops in the history of hip California. Nonetheless, there are traces which remain. On the dark side, the disgraceful train of logging trailers, bedecked with the corpses of more worthy elders, and, on the other hand, Adventure's Edge - the best camping and cycling store in Northern California. Don't let the square footage fool you, unlike huge box stores and their derivatives - THEY HAVE WHAT YOU NEED - at high quality and terrific value - and offer a wide price range where it counts. Best of all, truly friendly, superlative, knowledgeable customer service. You really can't do better than Adventure's Edge for your survival needs. read more

Touring down the coast with my dad and wanted to get the crunchy gears checked out on my Trek 720. Because of the short notice repair, I was really excited about giving these folks a good review. They ended up taking apart the wheel and rebuilding the Heliochromatic hub using inappropriately matched cones and bearings. In passing it off between mechanics and not taking the time to make sure it actually worked, we got about 50 miles out of Eureka to find bearings popping out and the wheel wobbling so badly it hit the brakes going up our first big hill. Waaaay worse off then if we wouldn't have gone!! ***Touring Folks Going South***: Eureka is THE LAST town with bike repair shops until Fort Bragg. Hitchhiking back into town and losing a day because of crappy repair jobs is not what you want. Aloof sales people made our business seem like an inconvenience and incompetent repair service solidified that the feeling is mutual. Go the extra couple blocks to Henderson Center Bicycles to get excellent service! read more

I have been shopping adventures edge since the late 1980s. I have spent thousands of dollars on merchandise and products. However, I recently purchased defective and poor quality equipment from Adventure's Edge in Eureka. When I attempted to return these items, I was told that they would not give me a refund. They told me I had to deal with the manufacturer directly. The manager and front desk cashier were unwilling to help me with my returns. I have always tried to shop locally and to give them my business. After this experience I will never return to adventures edge Arcata or Eureka! From now on I will shop at Amazon or I will shop directly with the manufacturer. Without good customer service, I would recommend that everyone shop elsewhere! Sorry adventure's edge, you had the opportunity to keep my business but you have failed. I will actively tell friends, coworkers, and other professionals that they should not shop at your store. read more

Staff were extremely helpful and ended up tuning up my gear for me out of the kindness of their hearts, when they easily could have stuck to their "no tune-ups" policy and sold me a new stove.
