A local store in an upscale boutique in Old town Eureka. As soon as I walked in I admired the fresh and decluttered store. It felt clean and bright atmosphere. I saw a doggy in a corner on the shop laying in its bed. I had my mask on but I noticed the person at the front desk had a smile on her face. I asked if it was possible to make my meaningful dresses into a romper. The lady in the front desk just laughed and said it should be around 50-70$. I couldn't tell if she was being sarcastic or serious. So I asked "Are you laughing b/c it appears complicated or is it something else?" I had her explain why it would not work instead of being left in the dark. The person proceeds to say she would not be able to do it because she would have to take fabric apart and put it together. I told her I appreciated her honesty but also kinda bummed she could she did recommend me to others who might be able to do it. I appreciate her honesty but her intentions appeared to judge that I would not be able to pay the amount only b/c she had to take it apart so I decided to move on and look elsewhere. I wouldn't have mind paying the amount but I felt judge that it was a ridiculous idea to make it into a romper, this was seen in her laughter and with the price being the next thing she mentioned. I did appreciate her honesty because she didn't just shush me away but recommend I look for others who would be more experience in that area. And today I picked up a dress that I brought in to be hemmed. It was way too long so the friendly young woman helped me to shorten it. Got a sweatshirt zipper replaced here and was charged about $40 for it (?) .... Then the zipper melted in the dryer (which i never run with high heat) now the sweatshirt is completely ruined. It was a very sentimental item that I had trusted was in good hands. Didn't think a $40 zipper should be able to melt like that and be completely useless before i could even wear the item. Not sure if I'll even be able to get it fixed again. It's really too bad because I typically refer everyone I know to this place. I understand being a small business is tough, but they gave me a (expensive) faulty product and didn't offer to fix it and i also received a lot of attitude when i asked about it, being told that it was my dryers fault? No, it was your cheap repair that cost me way too much money. A follow up to this... this previously described instance happened when I was picking up a separate order that I had dropped off to be taken in. A pair if mother denim that retail for around $250. I trusted them to be able to take in a pair of pants about an inch and what I received back was also beyond disappointing. Not only is the seam !!!!unfinished and unraveling!!!!! before I ever even wore them, but the pockets are uneven! And the seam looks like a crooked railroad track. I went in to have two clothing items repaired because they had three holes in them. The shop is so lovely, clean and filled with light. The woman who helped me was gracious and I definitely got the sense of an organized business. She handed me a card with the time to remind me to pick up my clothes. When I returned the following week, my clothes were fully repaired and she only charged me $12 for the repairs. Well worth it. I went to this business twice. After the first time, simple patch was badly done. I brought 2 more items for the same. When I asked about the work the seamstress, Snapped at me and replied, " I really don't know what you want!" It was a simple question. I paid and left. When I got to my car. I looked at the repaired items. To my dismay, the work wasn't even ok. It was BAD. Just sew on a button and a patch. How can you get that wrong? In fairness to the business, it was not the owner. Ruined my expensive work pants because they don't know how to hem properly. Very rude older lady at the store, gave me a specific time and date for pick up and then couldn't do it in time-called me and rushed me to come get it....they have dogs running around in the store which is so tacky and unhealthy for some people who are ALLERGIC. Specifically told the lady do not make my pants shorter than what it was. Just a slight hem And idk what they did but I cannot wear the pants because they are way too short. So upset that I even wasted my time and my hard earned money on mediocre service. Also they charge $15 for every area which is so ridiculous. Never again. read more

The seamstress said she could let out my dress for a black tie affair. When I picked up the dress the woman could barely zip it. I was leaving 6am the next morning to Miami so even though the dress didn't fit, I took it. I got home that night and was shocked of the quality of the stitch work. I couldn't see anything in the dark dressing room at the store front. At this point I was so depressed I cancelled the trip to my best friend of 25 years, wedding party because I was too embarrassed to wear the dress. It was literally falling apart in the back, the shoulders were pinched and not even stitched the whole way. Then when the owner called me back she kept telling Me it was my fault that I brought a dress that didn't fit, that I left with the dress, and that I should have told her it didn't fit (she could barely zip it) and she would have worked till midnight. How was I supposed to know that??? Every time I spoke she spoke over me till I got so upset I was yelling "stop talking over me," then she had the nerve to say she didn't have to take that abuse!!! She blamed me, insulted me, took my money for a horrible job and than told me I was abusing her when she wouldn't listen to what I was saying. Truly a horrible business. I came to Buttons on the recommendation of a co-worker that the gals at Buttons were adept at the modern tailoring of men's suits. I brought in two suits that had been previously tailored elsewhere that I felt needed additional work to make them reflect a "proper" fit, and two new suits I had recently purchased. Margaret at Buttons understood what I was looking for and went to work immediately on all four. The results were stunning. The previously-tailored suits had lost their old "boxy" fit and when I put them on, looked proper and urbane for the first time (though I had, at that time, owned them for years). They went out of their way to rush an additional alteration on the suit after I later decided I wanted a more modern look. Very helpful and patient. While I was there a woman was trying on a wedding dress that was fitted for her and she was very pleased with the results. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!! Not only did Margaret put me completely at ease in getting my wedding dress altered within three days, she turned a dress that I wasn't crazy about into the most beautiful, perfect wedding dress in the whole world!! The biggest relief was being able to walk in and ask for help, and not be treated like a total idiot when I said I needed the dress back the same week. I know I procrastinated, and so many other places in town treated me like a criminal for waiting until the last minute. I did not feel that way at Buttons. Margaret was simultaneously professional, comforting, and excitedly inventive! She whipped up an adorable gold belt to add on to the dress, too! I am so happy with the work they did on everything I have brought in so far. I brought in an old leather Bolivian backpack that needed new lining and strap repair, a woven Guatemalan bag, and a few other items needing repair. I had ordered a bridesmaid dress for my sisters wedding and I did the measurements way too small when I custom ordered it. I decided to go to two different alterations stores and they both said they wouldn't have time to do it within a week or it was a challenge. I was overwhelmed so I called Buttons. She told me to come in the next day and that she's sure she could fix it within a week. When I came in she began working on it immediately and assured me it would be done on time. It turned out so much better than I could have expected! She really works wonders and I'll be definitely coming back if I need more alterations. She also had great prices. I had a replacement zipper put in by Buttons about a year and a half ago. It has failed, so I wandered over there - their shop is right across the street from my parking spot for work. Immediately upon taking my jacket the clerk started saying that they couldn't have done this work. I repeated that they had indeed replaced my zipper, and she again said that they could not have. She then said that if they had then it would mean that they would have to replace it, but it would cost me (?). I then said that I was very willing to pay because I need my jacket for riding my Vespa to work. I then proceeded to ask her if there would be a more heavy-duty zipper they could use and she said no - pretty emphatically! I then asked if it would be possible to replace it with a right hand pull version, as that was what it originally had. I almost took it back when I had them do this replacement, but just figured I would get used to it, even though just about all my zippers are right hand pull. I never really got used to it. Anyway, she stated pretty emphatically that there was no way to do that. Really?(I thought). I then got so fed up with her vehemently negative attitude that I told her that I didn't feel like she wanted to help me and that I would be taking the jacket to someone else for the replacement. She quickly thrust the coat at me. I left bewildered at what had just happened, as several local longtime residents here in Eureka have recommended this shop. I had ordered a bridesmaids dress for my sisters wedding last minute and the website she directed us to was an online made to order dress shop. Because it was made to order you were able to custom size your dress perfectly for your size. I had mistakenly did the measurements wrong around my hips (a 6 inch difference, oops!) and I wasn't even able to get the dress over my butt. Eek. I immediately called the online store and they informed me that there were no returns on custom sized dresses. I tried two alterations shops in Arcata. One informed me she didn't have time for it, while the other felt that it could be around 150 dollars to fix, not to mention if she could even fix it within a week. Feeling hopeless, I decided to call Buttons. The woman instantly calmed me down and told me to come in the next day and she would figure something out. When I arrived, she immediately began working on it to see if there was something she could do. We decided on what would work and the dress was eventually finished in 5 days. She did an incredible job. The dress before was too long for my petite frame and was just overall awkward. I was happy to say that I was finally comfortable in the dress! I searched all around Eureka/Arcata for a good place to have my wedding dress altered. I had spent some good money on the dress so I really wanted to find a good place to have it altered. I talked to a few people on the phone and after less than stellar customer service at other places I called, I found buttons and I am so glad I did! I spoke with Rosemary on the phone a few times before I brought my dress in and she was so kind, welcoming and was happy to answer any questions I had. When I brought the dress in, she was super comfortable getting right to it and doing whatever she needed to do to make it fit perfectly. You could tell she knew what she was doing!
