I'm leaving three stars because I have no issue with the skill of the alterations. I have used this business one time before. They weren't friendly but not overtly rude either. They came highly recommended. I was calling to inquire about getting my daughter's bridesmaid dress altered, but when I asked the question, the woman said rudely, "I can't do anything unless you bring it in." with a little rude laugh. Like I was a child. Her tone was pretty condescending. I was so caught off guard I couldn't ask any more questions. She was chiding me that I had called first. Couldn't she have simply said, "Well just come on by and we will see what we can do." If I hadn't been so surprised I might have been able to make sure I explained myself clearly. I called first because I wanted to make sure they were open due to covid and to see how booked she was for alterations. I didn't want to waste a trip out to their shop, if they were too busy. I don't know if I will still use them or not. I've noticed there are a lot of negative reviews for several alterations places and I've called a couple and it seems to be a trend for seamstresses frequently. Another one I called was borderline rude. I'm not picky either. You just get the feeling you're inconveniencing them. Maybe because they are good at sewing but not people. I do want good work, I just feel rebellious and don't want to use someone who was rude to me for no reason. read more

Had a jacket that was far too big for my dwarvish stature, brought it in and was very detailed and picky with what I wanted. The jacket fits perfect now and they even reinforced it with double stitching. Only complaint is that it's a bit pricey, however if you need something hemmed right, they're your people. read more

Good, solid work. Only issue is on one of the items I took in for repair, an 8" portion of a seam had come open, at the neckline, clearly visible when it had been hung up, and they hadn't even noticed, which meant I needed take it back and pay an additional fee. read more

Very rude over the phone. Lady talked down to me and practically was scolding me for asking simple questions. I asked her how long the consultation should take because I work and go to school full time, so I need to make the proper arrangements when I need something done especially since they are not open weekends. Her answer was, " I could not possibly know how long it would take you to change your clothes, so how would I know?" and i said, "well, I mean an estimate maybe of the time you will need me there trying it on" and she goes, "how could I possibly know? *insert comments talking down to me*" Wow!! I get customer service sucks sometimes but this lady sounded older and seemed to think it was ok to talk down to me for some reason unknown to me. read more

I bought an antique trunk that had leather handles on either side which were old and falling apart. I restored the trunk, except for the handles. I removed them, made a new pattern to replace them in the old style. I tweeked the design so that the iron posts on the trunk did not need removal. (Proud of myself.) In a search online, I found Silver Threads. They did a perfect job, the craftsmanship impeccable! I wish I could attach a photo so other antique-trunk owners could see. I just bought another antique trunk and restored it. I'll be headed over to Silver Threads again soon! read more

This shop is very expensive for minor alterations on simple clothing. Tailor-Maid in Eureka is more economical for regular alterations. Just always make sure they give you an estimate in writing and bring the ticket with you when you return to prove what you were quoted. . read more

The two people who work there are very good at their craft. They did a fantastic job tailoring a frock coat to fit me and made a custom cravat to match and they did it on time as promised. Everything turned right the first time. Can't ask for better. read more

I love to shop local so I had a hard time giving these people an honest review cause its so bad, but then I realized I would not want any other woman to go through what I did. Very affordable prices, which is why I decided to take my 2 wedding dresses there .... big mistake. When my wedding dress made me completely flat chested, gave my hips dumbo ears and make my butt smile (not a good smile) I was told by the owners daughter, who did all my alterations, nothing can be done to make the dress look better because "that is just how your body looks!" Funny cause it didnt look like that before she altered it. She also told me she didnt like her wedding dress that much either and it was still a great wedding. I burst into tears when I came to pick up my dress a week before the wedding because it was so hideous on me, nothing was done right. She turned my $1300 dress into a hideous joke. I decided I would rather wear my regular clothes to get married in. The hem was too long and I had to hold my dress up the entire day because I kept stepping on it. With both hands holding my skirt up the whole day left me feeling disconnected from those I love because I couldn't dance/hug/drink/move. Luckily the store I bought it from came to my rescue when they heard I decided to wear regular clothes, but I could only afford to fix the chest and hips. They told me she did not let the seam out all the way (even though I asked her to do that multiple times because it was clearly too tight) and added the dumbo ears herself! It was a completely different dress when the 2nd people finished it and I looked amazing. I had a second dress for the 2nd day of my wedding. It was too big so she took it in. It was so tight after she was done with it I had to have help getting it on and off. And again I was completely flat chested. And of course she couldnt let it out once she made it that small. I could barely breath in it and could only wear it for an hour. She also shortened the hem and made it too short. Another gorgeous dress ruined. She also hemmed my husbands pants and did a nice job. Other than those horrors she was a delightful woman ... ok except when she was telling me my body was making the dress ugly, that was really messed up. But her mom was sooooo sweet. So much so that I feel bad writing this review but sorry it was just a nightmare. Probably should just stick to simple things if you go here. read more

I've had these ladies do two alterations, both of which were exceptional. The first job was hemming a kilt to make it more like a mini skirt, which was done *perfectly.* I really value the time the lady took with me to make sure it would be the proper length. I thought I wanted it shorter than I actually did because I didn't account for bending over and moving around, but she explained how she determined the proper length for a mini skirt and I let her run with her professional opinion, and it is exactly what I wanted. The second job was taking in the waistline of another skirt. It was actually a clean-up job as well, since I originally took the skirt to Tailor Maid and they completely mauled it. It was sticking out in weird places on the sides and the pleats were attached all wrong, in addition to the skirt still being too large. They cleaned it up in less than two weeks, and again, I picked up another skirt from them that was absolutely perfect for my body. I will probably never look for another tailor in this county. read more

I brought in a new suit, which I had purchased online, and they did a fantastic job. For under a $100, they did the hem, took in the waistline/chest on the jacket, added half size to the waist of the pants, and added a half inch to the sleeves, and now it fits perfect,. This is the first time I have had alterations done in Humboldt and Taylor Maid told me over the phone to bring in the suit and that they would have it ready in a week. When i brought it in, they told me to bring it back in a week because the person who does suits wouldn't be back until then.
