Wanted to give an update on this review -- I am still a regular at this nail salon and Monday is still my nail tech 3yrs later! The staff is always nice. I still don't have a long wait for my appointment times and I can probably count how many times I've actually had to wait awhile for the previous person to finish. However, it's a beauty service & waiting is expected to happen sometimes, so it's understandable & not a big issue for me. He's always apologized if I've had to wait longer than expected. Quality is perfection, I often like a lot of designs & I appreciate how he allows me to show several ideas & then educates me on what's going to look best & why. Fully trust his artwork & creativity. The atmosphere is typically quiet with some talking going on, good music is usually playing. read more

I got my nails done by Linda, the inspo pic is shown (very last image). I told her I wanted the same exact shape, length, color, and design. After cutting my nails to the same length of the image, she started filing wayyy too much to where they weren't even medium/long anymore. Some nails were crooked, some were shorter than the rest, they were very wide/thick/lumpy, overall it was giving stiletto and not almond. I asked her to round it out and fix the crooked nail, but clearly she wasn't able to. I ended up paying 100 and tipped 10, just to be nice. Me and my friend requested the same design, so after paying and looking at our nails we realized mine is completely off and I was very disappointed. I went back in to at least try and get a refund or redo the nails completely. I talked to Tabitha, and she said I wasn't able to get the length that I originally wanted because apparently there was a "miscommunication" about me wanting the length shorter than the photo: WHICH I DID NOT. Tabitha did end up fixing my nails, which I'm glad about. But I am still very disappointed that I paid 100 for what is basically short nails. I don't think I would ever come back. read more

While highway 280 isn't my favorite place to be, the drive to Gloss Nail Star was a fair trade for the experience. The salon is really cute with a neon sign that says treat yourself. There's plenty of colors to choose from and the shop is known for their creative nail art. I saw this design on Pinterest and after a quick color hunt, we got started. I got sns dip since I like how strong it is and the process was really smooth. It's best to schedule an appointment because customers were rolling in consistently. They have sodas, water, and wine if you'd like a drink. Definitely a nice place to unwind! read more

i had the best experience there!!!! kelly did my nails and she was amazing!!! she was so sweet and talked to me almost the whole time and seemed to genuinely care about me and my nails and kept asking if she was hurting me and was being super gentle. she followed my inspo picture perfectly and gave me exactly what i asked for. it was such a cute nail place as well, there was music playing and movies on the TVs. i was super happy with my nails and i will definitely be back. read more

Rating: 1 star if I could give 0 I would. My experience at Gloss Nails was unacceptable. I came in with a clear example of what I wanted and was promised they could do it. Despite the nail tech visibly struggling, I asked several times for her to get help, and no one assisted her. I paid $206 for a full set and pedicure, and within two days the nails started lifting, smudging, and chipping. By day three, they were completely falling apart. As I left, I saw another Black woman dealing with the same issue on her big toes -- clearly this is a recurring problem here. When I asked for a refund, the staff argued with me instead of taking responsibility. On top of that, I was isolated from the rest of the customers. Despite multiple open chairs, they put me in the last chair in the back and left me there. No one checked on me, and every customer who came in after was seated comfortably at the front. I am autistic and have ADHD, which makes these kinds of situations extremely overwhelming. I communicated my needs and asked for help multiple times, and was completely ignored. Now, I have to spend even more money to have someone else fix what Gloss Nails messed up -- all because they refused to take accountability and provide the service they guaranteed. I do not feel safe, respected, or comfortable returning, and I will be attaching photos to show the poor quality of their work. read more

I am from California and I'm a total nail snob, for certain. I do not play any games when it comes to my nails. I need the cuticles, the color, the shape, and the designs just right. That said, as a business owner and presenter, I need to stay looking fresh and well manicured at all times. I had been in Alabama for about two weeks out of my three week stay, so my California fill was starting not to look as fresh as I'd normally like. I begin to look for a nail salon and stumbled upon Gloss Nail Art. Although leery and missing my nail tech in Cali, I gave them a call to make an appointment. I was able to get an appointment for later that day, so I headed over. Feeling reluctant, I still managed to see it through and make it happen. Upon arrival, I was seated with a woman named Lily. I wasn't sure about how she did nails, so I was taking a big chance. I was desperate, so you have to do what you have to do. As Lily began to do my nails, I became pleasantly surprised. She was fabulous! Not only was she good, she was pleasant and kind natured. Her design technique was amazing, and I felt so happy that I found her. I'm often in Birmingham for work, so I'll definitely see her when I'm in town. I can literally say that I have two phenomenal nail techs. They also both complimented each others work. Loved that too! Today was my third visit to Gloss Nails!!! On my first visit I had Kelly do GelX tips for the first time for me. I normally have natural nails but I grew them too long and one broke down too low so I cut them all off but hated them. Kelly did an amazing job and they looked so natural, she also filled them 3 weeks later. Today I returned and had Lynn 'gently' remove them; they lasted 7 weeks with not a single tip lifting. Lynn was very gentle and my natural nails underneath were perfect and strong! Son did a my pedicure and was great too!!!! I would highly recommend this Salon. Pros: they were able to schedule a mani/pedi appointment very quickly and were accommodating. The mail tech doing my manicure double checked that the length of my nails was good, and was super kind when I changed the color before we started Pedi leg massage was good, and overall pedicure was good Cons: none of the polish dried, and within minutes of leaving the salon it was already chipping and denting. I'm not a nail novice so I know it takes a while to dry, and I avoided being hard on my hands or digging around in my purse for literally hours after the appt. I even used a uv light at home in hopes that the polish would eventually dry up. But by the end of the night half of my finger nails and a few toes were missing polish or severely smudged. Im so disappointed, I was really hoping for a good experience. Im sure you'll have better luck if you're into acrylics or SNS read more

I didn't really engage in conversation with my nail tech, hell I didn't even get her name. Today was my first visit and while they did a good job on my nails, there were some major issues. The gentleman that did my pedicure complimented my watch but then proceeded to ask me the brand and how much I paid for it twice. He then asked me if I was rich, multiple times. This made me very uncomfortable. He then noticed my engagement ring and commented on the diamond and how large it was. He then again kept loudly saying that I was rich in front of other employees and patrons. David, the gentleman who did my nails was sitting next to the pedicure guy and hearing all of this conversation. When it came time to pay, David charged me $30 for a nail design that at most should've cost $15. It makes me wonder if all the previous comments about me "being rich" affected what I was charged. Also the total I paid still didn't't add up. I had a regular pedicure (36) + acrylic refill with gel (45) + design (30) = 111. The total they charged me was $121. I have no idea what the extra $10 was for. Also I was still gracious enough to leave a tip. Also, my husband just called the place and was told that none of this conversation happened, basically calling me a liar. They did not even apologize or offer any type of solution. Instead they blamed me by saying that I "didn't speak up" about it. read more

I got my nails done here several days before Easter 2021 and they still look as good as the day I walked out of the salon. I got my nails dipped and ready for the holiday. I think these nails will last at least another week or two. They cost just a little more than I was used to paying but they wearing well much longer. I will go back for the quality work. Yesterday was my second time at Gloss Nail Stars. I had a great experience my first time and a lackluster experience my second time, with a different staff member. The first time, Alex and a young woman did my gel mani pedi and did a decent job. I really appreciated that she was thorough and polished my finger three times. It only lasted 1.5 weeks before chipping although I didn't do anything out of the ordinary. The second time, a guy did my gel mani and was on his phone multiple times while with me, which I thought was unprofessional. He polished twice vs the previous staff and I feel like much of my nails remain unpolished and my cuticles look awful. So I guess whether you'll have good service is highly dependent on who you get, reflecting the lack of consistency there. Also if you're expecting to find the Paulette to your Elle Woods here that won't happen. The staff does not speak English well and won't make conversation with you, although they are polite. read more

I haven't gotten my nails done since I moved to Alabama because I was scared to let just anybody do them but they turned out better than I could have imagined. I came in to Gloss Nail Stars today because I saw the good ratings on Yelp - WOW were they right. I didn't make an appointment and was able to walk right in! Everyone is extremely kind and helpful in Gloss Nail Stars. The last picture I attached is the picture I found on Pinterest and what I wanted done today. There was no hesitation when I asked if it could be done, and they did it fast and easy. I'm afraid I forgot his name, but the guy who did my nails was so friendly! He was around my age (in his 20s) and was so kind to me and my friend. He did not miss a single corner of my nails while also making them perfectly smooth. When he finished my nails, he sent me to Kelly to finish my design. After I realized the color pink I chose was a little darker than the picture I initially showed, Kelly helped me pick another color to make it more individualized / so it would look the best. My friend who came with me had a gel manicure done and it look immaculate as well. Plus, on top of being incredibly happy with my nails, the salon has a perfect 100 rating (but who's surprised, I had the best visit there today). I wish I could give more than 5 stars! The staff is very kind and does an amazing job on your nails. However, the excessive talking amongst each other does pose as a distraction and can potentially elongate the time of service. My suggestion is, limit the excessive talking and focus on servicing the client. read more
