Found this place sort of by accident but will absolutely be coming back!!! It's so beautiful and clean. The decor is very spa like and there are plenty of staff. I saw about 8-10 on the Saturday that I came. I only got a pedi and Rosa is the tech I got. She was wonderful! She made enough conversation to be friendly but also allowed me to relax and just enjoy the treat of the massage. The price was a bit higher than I'm used to paying but it may be that prices are higher in Alabama in general, as opposed to NC, where I just moved from. Either way, I'd much rather pay more for a great experience in a gorgeous salon! Very happy with the service I got today and will definitely be back for my next pedi! read more

I went in as a walk in. They were pretty busy but my wait wasn't long. My nail tech was Eric. He was efficient and often asked about my feedback on my nails. I don't normally leave reviews, but I would like to for this nail salon because I had a really great experience. First and foremost, they didn't rush me or try to talk me out of what I wanted. They wanted to make sure they were giving me what I wanted with my, full set acrylics and my pedicure. They took the time to clean my cuticles properly on both my fingernails and my toenails. They service and quality of my manicure and pedicure was definitely worth what I paid although I wasn't expecting it to be that much. I wasn't mad about it because I was happy with what I got and I haven't gotten that in a long time at salon. read more

Tried this place 1.5 years ago when I gave it 2 stars for likely the worst pedicure ever. I vowed to give it a second chance and so today, I did that (my guy at my other place is on vacation). This time, I made an appointment, hoping for a different technician. I was woefully disappointed to see the same guy come to the station!!! Other technicians were lounging in pedicure chairs jibber jabbering away against super zen spa-like music. The pedicure was better this time (3.5 stars instead of 2). By the time I left, two others were getting pedicures and seemed to be regulars. Maybe I just need to request someone else. This place is super clean, but still the same issue noted with sterilized instruments. read more

Have tried multiple nail salons in Birmingham and this one will forever be my favorite! Samantha is so personable and does my nails better than anyone ever has. Nailtique has a great environment and really friendly staff! My schedule is unpredictable, so I always walk-in. They keep busy, but I've never had to wait more than a few minutes to be served. There is always a steady stream of regulars coming in for appointments who are greeted by name. I love that because it shows how great their service is! I've been about five times and normally get a gel manicure or polish change. I have always been really pleased with the results! They pay close attention to the shaping of my nails, the evenness of the color and the prices are reasonable. Also, they always play HGTV if that is your vibe! read more

My experience was pretty awful. I wanted a French tip pedicure and manicure with acrylics on the manicure. They shaped my toes terribly the French tip was AWFUL. It looked like caterpillars on the tips. No shaping or artistic looks what do ever. I had to keep explaining what I wanted and showing pictures and they still couldn't get it right so if you want a French tip don't go here. The woman who was doing my toes was very young and seemingly new, she had to call for help several times and eventually got frustrated and just got another worker to do my nails altogether. This was my first visit and I don't think I'll be back. The workers were sweet besides the lady who did my feet, but I LOVE my French tips and I can't continue to come somewhere that can't do a simple French tip. read more

We're really lucky to have a great nail place in Cahaba Heights that doesn't completely break the bank (looking at you, Summit). $40 for a deluxe pedicure isn't that bad. They're very friendly here, too. Nancy was great. The chairs and furniture are a little run down, but the overall atmosphere is good. It's a pretty small shop. A 15 minute wait at 2 o' clock on a Saturday is not bad. Will be back. read more

I've now almost had the polish on for two weeks and it's in pretty good shape. I've never had a regular manicure last this long. I will be going back for sure!! read more

I stopped by on a Friday without an appointment for an SNS manicure. I expected to wait if needed since I didn't have an appointment but the lady (who I believe was the owner) told me to choose a color and sit down. She started on my nails as if it were some sort of race to see how quickly she could finish. One of the steps of applying clear polish was a joke- she "brushed" it on as if it was a two year old with their eyes closed. Clear polish all over the sides of my fingers. I was in and out of the chair in 25 minutes- which for an SNS MANICURE is absurd. My only thought is she wanted to turn customers over as quickly as possible to get more $$ but it came at the expense of quality. After ONE WEEK, my nails are cracking, chipping and need to be redone. One week. SNS should last at least 2 and usually three weeks. When she finished and I mentioned that I had glue/clear polish all over and my nails were stuck to my skin, she told me that was normal and that it would wash off when I washed my hands. Umm...what? Quick turnover, shotty work, ZERO attention to detail. With a nail salon on almost every corner, I'll happily take my business to a place that emphasizes quality. read more

Samantha and Danny run the best nail salon I've ever been to. The product is awesome. My nails last three weeks! They are attentive and incredibly customer service oriented. I've lived here in BHM almost 9 years and it took me 8 of those 9 to find this wonderful salon. Waxing, pedicures, and more services offered. They have 100 % rating from State Board of. So far I have only had 1 pedicure here and it was excellent. I splurged for the added hot-stone treatment that was $40 with the basic being $30. The lady massaged my legs with oil and it felt so wonderful y'all! She could have asked me for almost ANYTHING at that moment. Then came the hot-stones and I was in la la land. It felt so good that I caught myself looking at her like "where have you been all my life". I will definitely be back! Ok then came the steaming towels and that was relaxing. Super busy salon on a Tuesday morning outing with my Mom. We both got mani pedi service and they were very gentle and sweet with her. My nail salon pet peeves are beverage service and massage so I have to mention that - while they offered the lady next to us water none was offered to us. I'm well hydrated today but this is a deal breaker overall. I'm going to try other Birmingham salons next time in an effort to find decent service. The massage part of the service was lengthy but rather limp wristed for most of it. They just don't seem to care and are just going thru the motions. I like how quiet this spa is and that the TVs are tuned to HGTV but the volume is down and while the staff patter is fairly constant they try to keep voices soft. The overall feel of the place is calm and I appreciate that. Polish color selection is average (about 300 shades of Opi, Essie and Color Club etc) but I always bring my own. They offer Opi infinite shine for $3 upcharge. The upselling to gel services was also minimal here. I'm not sure why this place is so incredibly popular but even for price it's not a 5 star in my book. read more

Great place, very big and beautiful interior design. Got a pedicure with a sprained ankle and the technician was so wonderful and gentle. Then I got the dip powder on my nails and I love it!! It's my first time doing this as opposed to gel or acrylics and I love this so much better. She said it would help grow my nails because the acrylics had ruined them. It was maybe 10-15 bucks more that I would've priced it all at but worth it I guess! read more

When I went in for the head spa-mini facial-neck/shoulder massage it was wonderful. It took 75 minutes and Tina did an amazing job. It was extremely relaxing and a fantastic experience.

This is the 3rd time I've been there. My technician was Diem, very professional. Last time my gel manicure lasted 6 weeks so I'm sure it will last as long this time. Clean shop, clean stations, will definitely return. read more

Every time my pedicure (regular) has been meticulous, they ask about potential issues with my feet and even how ticklish I am, and the foot/leg massage is second to none. I have never gone back to the "cheap" place that's closer. Believe me, it's worth the extra $5 to get great service and people who can talk to you rather than ignoring you or talking in another language on their ohone the whole time.

They take such special care of my feet every time I'm there- no matter how long it takes. They're the BEST! Their manicures are also top tier. Just wonderful people all around, all of whom know their craft! Icing on the cake- they are the most reasonably priced nail spa I've found locally. Since it's Christmas time I was given a gift of house made nail scrub. This was very much appreciated and a sweet gesture. I liked their point and checkin system. If you get over a certain amount of points, you get a discount. Like most nail places, it was filled with regulars. I didn't want to go to my regular place today because it was cold and rainy and this is next to Publix where I was doing groceries. Glad I came here and tried them out. Only thing I didn't like is I wanted a hot pink color and the color on my nails had shimmer glitter and I'm not a fan of shimmer glitter. I wish I communicated that better. I'll see how long the polish lasts and update if I need to. Other than that this was a nice environment to get your nails done. Prices are comparable to those in Hoover.

After 3 weeks the gel on my toes is cracking. Not sure if it was just the polish or what but for $95 ($50 builder gel & $45 for gel polish change on toes) I would prefer my nails to not chip so quickly or crack.

However, during my most recent visit, I witnessed something that solidified my appreciation for this team even more. A disgruntled customer came in (happens to be the review directly before this one), loudly demeaning and condescending to the nail artists, demanding a full refund despite the salon's clear no-refund policy (a standard in nearly all salons). The team remained calm, professional, and respectful throughout her tirade, doing everything they could to resolve the situation. When I made a quiet comment to my tech about how someone's gotta pay the rent after multiple times demanding a refund, she chose to lash out at me as well, culminating in some truly inappropriate and over-the-top remarks that left everyone shocked. Despite her behavior, my nail tech went above and beyond, breaking policy to give her cash to leave and protect both the staff and other customers. Thank god he did because she continued to say to me (which I'm sure she felt incredibly righteous in doing so) that she hopes I "wake up with cracked and bloody nails." She was gently forced from the salon afterwards. I can't praise the Basecoat on 5th team enough for their patience, professionalism, and dedication to ensuring their employees and customers feel safe and valued, even in the face of such absurd behavior. As someone who works in the service industry myself, I know how challenging these situations can be, and they handled it with grace and compassion. Every manicure I've received here has been top-notch, and this experience only reinforced why I'll continue to come back. Thank you for always going above and beyond! P.S. The only reason she got a refund at all is because she became aggressive with me, telling me to shut up etc. They were more than happy to take ALL the product off, but she had decided to come in 30 minutes before an appointment (yes...I heard everything) so of course they could not since she was insistent she couldn't be late. That's a YOU problem! It sounds like she was pretty concerned about her health, so we can reasonably assume she's never had a hangnail. If you're that concerned, do it at home where you can't bully people. And don't lie in your reviews! Your indignancy and petulance will affect people's livelihood. Let's remember to have EMPATHY people!!! Love the Basecoat team!!!

I actually hold my cosmetology license in California and am very much aware about of the work necessary vs price point. But just felt they should've been up front of the little add ons. On top of it, they charged me sales tax and after looking up the rules and regulations in the state of Alabama I realized it's not legal. First off, I couldn't even explain to the lady what I wanted because she didn't know one word in English. The entire time she was basically using sign language to tell me to lift my leg when she was ready to put cream on it or she needed me to put my foot back in the water. It was just very difficult and not relaxing. I felt like when she was putting nail polish on she on purpose was not doing it far enough close to the cuticle because she wanted it to grow out quickly. Two days after my session, my nail polish is fading. It's not the crisp pink color I chose. You can also see areas where she did not put enough nail polish. My mom, who is sitting next to me, noticed hers didn't have enough nail polish, and when she asked the gentleman to put more, some lady nearby told her that's just "her nail". We looked at each other like do we look dumb to you? My mom's nails have no dark coloring or black streaks or anything of that sort to justify why you could see weird lines on her big toe. So the guy put more nail polish and what do you know, it solved the problem. These people are a ripoff, not skilled, can't communicate in English, and instead of trying to resolve an issue, they put blame on the person's nails. Definitely not coming back ever again and I don't recommend anyone to visit them either.
