It wasn't bad, but the technician wasn't very talkative and seemed like she preferred not to engage--which, to be fair, some people might appreciate. I love Escape Day Spa when I want a little pampering. I have enjoyed several facials here, and my skin is glowing after each one. Briana is so skilled and has so much knowledge about everything facial! Sarah is kind and skilled as well. I booked a deep tissue massage and didn't realize how badly I needed one until after I finished with Blake. He got all the knots out that I didn't even know I had. The waiting area is peaceful and quiet and smells so good.The people at the front desk are always friendly and helpful. I love the fact this business supports other local small businesses and artists. They host a block party each year for these vendors plus display their items for purchase along with skincare items in their lobby. Pros: Every massage with Amanda is amazing. She worked wonders when I was pregnant and I went to her for prenatal massages. She has also been amazing at deep tissue massage now that I'm not pregnant. Highly recommend her! Cons: Basically everything else is a huge con. While sometimes you can get lucky with a courteous front desk person, the front desk staff are overall SO rude and unprofessional. I waited for 45 minutes for a pedicure and manicure, only to have the person give me the wrong service -- a typical manicure that literally rubbed off ONE DAY LATER but I was charged for a gel manicure. After going around and around with the front desk people, I had to eat the cost. I've literally never had a worse manicure experience. Just recently, I had my massage canceled last minute due to the masseuse no longer being available. I understand that things happen, but again the front desk people were very difficult to work with when trying to find an alternative solution. Overall, I would recommend Amanda as an individual but I would absolutely not recommend Escape Day Spa itself. I would never purchase a loved one a gift card for this spa and really wish they would address their lack of professionalism, their last minute cancellation issues, and their truly deplorable manicure service. read more

I've had facials and massages and I can say without a shadow of a doubt the massage is where to go , in particular with the masseuse Ms . NITA . I can barely configure the words to type at how blissfully blessed she is and through her hands I can tell she loves what she does ! Although a small woman ,she has mighty healing hands . Every single session I'm left in complete relaxation , bliss and feeling lighter than ever . She starts the service by inquiring of any allergies and or points of body that need extra attention ,followed by inhaling an aromatic essential oil. She focuses on each quadrant with enough time to really get all the kinks and knots out . You think the hands are amazing then she uses hot towels and stones to each tension . I could legitimately write a body ,hypothesis and statement and how amazing she is at what she does but this should suffice! What a blessing to have such an amazing masseuse in town ! It's been a while since either of us have had a massage, so I wanted to find us a new place to try and see if we liked it. I booked the appointment online. Escape is located near Bartaco, Saws BBQ, and New York Pizza in the Homewood area. Parking can be a pain, as anyone who has been to this area can testify. We were greeted when we came in. We signed our paperwork, and waited for our appointment to begin. The staff were friendly and professional. They did a great job on our couples massage. I actually would have liked a little less pressure at points throughout! I think we'll be back. The ease of booking different services online, and choosing your masseuse, is great. Reasonable prices. I had a massage with Evelyn last week! Parking is an issue here, but once you find a space, you'll have a great experience. The ambiance was very calming and warm. I was taken back with my therapist on time for my appointment, and had a great massage. Afterward, the staff was very kind and welcoming. I'd call this is a no-frills massage compared to other places around town like Ross Bridge or Woodhaus- however, it's easier to find an appointment here and their basic is about $10 cheaper. After sitting in the waiting are for ten minutes past my appointment time I went to the front desk to check in about the status of my appointment. She right away went to talk to the nail tech then brought me into the nail room. The nail tech came to take care of my nails but did not even say three words to me during my service time. She also did not file, buff, etc. my nails before applying polish. All she did was polish my nails and then left me sitting. One day later and my polish is already pretty chipped. I managed a high end spa for many years so this experience was next level disappointing. I have been experiencing for the past year and a half lower L3 L4 issues and he not only worked deep tissue massage but worked on correcting my whole body allinment. This is a wonderful spa! Very relaxing and cozy (they have the cutest space in Homewood). I had a massage here and while booking my appointment online (always a plus), I really liked that you could specify if you wanted a male or female masseuse. I wound up with a female and she explained the entire process to me, asked if I had any problem areas or concerns and really took the time to get to know me. Everyone I encountered was extremely professional and the massage was FANTASTIC. I, like so many others, sit at a desk for 8 hours a day and it can really destroy your back. Ciara did my nails and they look perfect. First time i can actually say say I'm truly satisfied with my nails after getting them done. She pays attention to every little detail. Was very excited to go here today. I booked a service online and the website read you would choose what you wanted when you made an appointment. However the website automatically chose and service and I understood it to read that you would pick your service when you arrived. However when I arrived that was not the case. I can accept if I read it wrong but then the woman proceeded to tell me that I should've just called to book because it is easier. I said I had been very sick all week and had not been able to call which is why I did it online. She told me that she wished they would change it to where new customers could not book online and made me feel like an idiot. I will not be booking here again. Update- One of the owners called me directly to apologize for the receptionist's behavior and has worked with me to come back and get a massage. I am very impressed by how she handled this and how quickly she wanted to make sure we got what we wanted. I will update again after we go. Final update- The owner definitely took care of us! Listen, I'm a picky girl. ESPECIALLY with spa treatments. I get massages frequently (normally at the Asian places but also some at higher end places), and a friend and I got the 1 hour BFF facial and 30 min massage right after and wowwwwww it was so amazing. I had Rachel and she is literally an incredible masseuse. I told her afterwards I'd be back to see her! Lol. Normally a 30 min massage is not worth it, but this one absolutely was. You could tell they understood the money that was being paid for a short amount of time and they actually wanted to give you your moneys worth- I always notice and appreciate that. The hour facial was amaaaaazing also!! Let it be noted that this was more of a relaxation facial than a "dermatologist" type facial, but that's what we wanted. Ive been trying to find a place in Bham that does just basic relaxing facials with the nice arm massages etc. and they did it wonderfully!! Loved this place. Recently moved to Birmingham and was looking for a new spa. Had the basic facial and a deep tissue massage. Loved the ambiance of the place- nice music and atmosphere. Staff was very friendly. The waiting area is nice, but you don't wear a robe and check your stuff into a locker (which I kind of would have preferred). My facial was great, very relaxing, and my skin looked bright and luminous after. The massage was great too- the pressure was excellent and my masseuse was very responsive. I had to ask a few people their opinion of my recent experience at Escape Day Spa. I wanted to know their opinion and then decide if I should leave a review. My husband and I use Yelp and Google reviews often; so I felt it was somewhat my duty. Several years ago I came to Escape to have Eye Lash Extensions. Alisha the owner did an amazing job on several occasions. After a couple of years I stopped getting my lashes done. Fast forward to last month when I decided to resume getting Lash Extensions and immediately thought of Escape Day Spa. I booked an appointment with Melissa as Aleisha was not available. Melissa did a GREAT job on the first full set and the first refill. She listened to what I wanted and took her time making them perfect. As I was checking out there were two woman behind a counter; one of whom was checking me out. I would like to think I am a very friendly (Midwestern Transplant) person. So, the first time she 'grumpingly' mumbled something I was polite and asked her again. She continued to not make eye contact and mumbled the same thing (I think) a couple more times. Then she mumbled something to the other woman sitting about 18inches away. I said I did not understand as I was trying to see where I pay, insert a card, etc. The counter was rather high and narrow and the two woman were sitting kind of low on the other side. So I was fumbling with my card in my hand and with no eye contact and not knowing what she was saying I looked kind of stupid I guess. Then came a sarcastic YIP. A very very clear YIP. It was at that moment that I was dealing with someone who did NOT belong behind a SPA desk greeting or checking out a client. I became silent and hurried toward the door. As I was pulling the door open to walk out I heard in the MOST sarcastic, weirdly evil and condescending tone. Have a nice day! I am not kidding, it sounded like it was from a scary movie! So, to be honest I received a great spa service but my experience was spoiled by this woman. I hope the owner of this shops does not take this negative comment to heart but instead thinks about who is making a first and last impression on their clients. UPDATE: I must say Escape Day Spa is on their game and very professional. I received two phone calls within an hour of leaving this Yelp review. The first from Amanda assuring me the person who was mentioned as unprofessional in my above review was no longer working at the Spa. The second from one of the owners who could not have been more concerned and apologetic. They informed me that the person in question was new (2 week old hire) and who no longer worked at Escape. They assured me her departure was prior to my review. They graciously offered services at no charge which I declined. I am considering revisiting the salon for two reasons; my lash extensions were done PERFECTLY and have lasted one week beyond my 2 week refill AND because I feel one new hire should not DEFINE the work and customer service ethic of an entire staff. My mom and I went to this day spa for a massage and facial 'girls day out.' My massage was excellent, I will give them props for that. When done, my therapist told me to put on a robe, any robe that was hanging on the back of the door. Which do I pick...the short pink one, the long white one or maybe the gray scruffy looking one. I did not want to put any of them on, the whole vibe was creepy. Met my Mom back in the water room. She had on this ridiculous black velvet robe. Almost burst out laughing, but hey we are supposed to be in relaxed bliss by now. Mom reported back her massage was awful. More a rub down than a massage. We paid for a deep tissue massage and her therapist told her she was getting the soft tissue massage. Bad on her for assuming my Mom could not handle a deep tissue massage. News flash, my Mom is tough! Next up, facials. Got situated and waited for the typical consult, you know, let's take a look at your face; dry, oily, large pores? What's the plan; cleansing first, then toner, maybe a masque? Nope, let's just start slathering on lotion. Then toner. Slather on another lotion, toner and wait for it, more lotion. Her touch was so light it made me feel sick. And the smell of the lotions, my god, I really was almost ill. I have no idea what she put on my face, but I walked out of there feeling like my pores had been gummed up and I will need to exfoliate for the next month to scrape it all off. I am not one to be silent when a service is so bad. I voiced my discontent and they did not charge me for the facial. They did, however, tack on an additional gratuity for who knows. Maybe the lotion girl... Weird grandma robes walking around and subpar services all at a hefty price tag. Note to Management; invest in some white robes, embroider them with your company name and be done with it. The grandma robes are a killer. This place is a fail. Period. Great massage. Typical pricing. We arrived early and were escorted to a waiting room with cucumber water, water and couches to relax pre-massage. Soothing music was playing to get you in a relaxation state of mind. The massage was good. There were times I wanted more pressure but didn't ask. They used oil, hot stone, and hot towels to clean up. We even got a dark chocolate candy at the end. I had a great experience until we found out the pricing had gone up per person and there is an extra charge to do a couples massage. I received a gift card for this spa prior to Covid. I was worried that like many businesses, this place would go out business before I got a chance to use my gift card, so I decided to go ahead and book. I was pleased to see the safety measures they are practicing. When you get there you have to text and they will let you know when to walk in. It's on a very cute street with lots of restaurants and stores, so walking around while you wait is very nice. You also have to sign a waiver prior to your appointment online. Upon entry, you are made to wash your hands and are required to wear a mask. I got a pedicure and they do their appointments so that you are the only one getting one (unless it's a couples service). It came out nice and I felt totally comfortable with the service. Not sure if I'd brave a massage, but I'll definitely come back for another pedicure. read more

My husband gifted me a massage and mani pedi here for mothers day. Overall my experience was not too bad. The masseuse was very nice, polite, and professional. I did feel like the massage ended a little earlier than my 60 minutes. About 7 minutes to be exact, so that I wasn't too pleased with. Then our mani/pedis didn't start on time. So we were sitting in the sitting area for about 30 minutes waiting on our appointment. The young lady that did my mani/pedi was also very nice and professional. She did a good job on my hands and feet. However, my polish began chipping just a couple days after leaving. So overall, not horrible, but not sure I'll be back. read more

I love this place! Manicures, pedicures and spray tans are a must for me for big events. My family has had many of them lately with even more to come. Escape uses Dazzle Dry polish that stays put on my natural nails. The spray tan service is awesome, as well. It is great to have a full service spa conveniently located with on-line scheduling available 24/7. When a spa day is needed for relaxation, the massage therapists are wonderful, too. Easily the best massage I have ever had! Jessica worked miracles in only 30 minutes. I have had 90 minute massages that did not provide as much relief. I would give it six stars if I could. Shamika gave me the best massage I have ever received, as I have had quite a few. My boyfriend got me the Valentine's massage package. Everyone was very sweet, welcoming and made me feel right at home. The atmosphere was perfectly set from smells all of the way to the decor. Shamika asked if I had any specific spots I wanted her to concentrate on and was very accommodating. I literally felt as if I was transported to another planet. I did not feel relaxed at all after. The font desk people could care less about the customers. Rushed out and not greeted properly. I was really hoping for a great experience after seeing all the great reviews on Yelp, but it just fell flat. Don't get me wrong... it is a nice, relaxing atmosphere, but my massage was less than mediocre. It seemed like I went to a random person without any training for a massage. What was worse, I did not feel like my muscles were relaxed afterwards. The massage was so poorly done, that my sciatic nerve acted up afterward and it was impossible to sit for any duration of time. I received a gift certificate for a pedicure from Escape. Absolutely don't recommend. Selection of color is small. One type of off brand nail color. There was no cuticle oil used, cuticles not pushed back, the instruments were not from an autoclaved pack, all the "clean" nail files were were sitting beside the water- would be very easy to be splashed by every person who sits there getting a pedicure, no liner in the tub part of the chair. Not only was I wondering if I will end up with a fungus, but the pedicure itself was poorly done. Jagged great toe nail, poorly cleaned edges- looked like they had been smeared. And to top it off Monique gave out attitude if I asked normal questions about where things were or if they had a certain brand polish. Not acceptable in my book.
