I write this review due to a repeated experience in scheduling for my appts. It's happened at least 3,4 times now when scheduling they have called a day or 2 prior to cancel the appt, or try to get me earlier, and if I can't come earlier they cancel regardless. They've mentioned multiple times it's been a scheduling issue and mistake made repeatedly. But it's caused me to have to look elsewhere for a salon due to reliability. I have been coming to The Collective for years, and I have never thought about switching to any other place. Walking in, the salon is very vibrant, clean, and organized. The front desk staff have always been so kind and helpful whenever I check both in and out. They also offer drinks such as sodas, wine, coffee, beer, and water. I have been seeing Destiny for about 4 years now and she has been amazing. She took me from black to a beautiful ash blonde. There have been a few times where I've had to see other stylist just because my schedule didn't line up with her, and they have all been amazing as well. There really isn't anyone I wouldn't trust seeing at the Collective. Every stylist I've seen has always been so attentive to the details and informative when I come in with the most vague idea of what u want to do with my hair. The first haircut I received from the Collective was great. If I just had that experience, I would give it 5 stars. However, the second time I went to have my hair cut was an entirely different experience. I have medium to long, straight, fine hair that easily tangles. I would normally expect for my hair to be washed and detangled thoroughly before being cut. The stylist, Hannah, sat me down and immediately began cutting my knotted and dirty hair, only combing through the sections she was cutting with a fine tooth comb first (ouch). She then proceeded to wash and style my hair. For the price paid, I would expect a blowout style, but she only blew it dry straight. Overall, the haircut doesn't look bad, so I am giving it 3 stars, but I would expect a different experience from a place that charges so much. read more

While my stylist was clearly very knowledgeable about hair and curls in general, I don't feel like she took into account the specific needs of my unique curls. I mentioned to her about negative experiences at other salons in the past (not using enough product, not toning the color enough), and unfortunately I feel like the same thing happened. I left with a nice shape to the cut (however it was much more than the 3 inches I ask for), but my curls were not styled well at all. My stylist was much too rough while scrunching and diffusing my hair (my curls are very sensitive), and I left with my hair looking like I was on day 4 or 5. I also felt rushed at the end (my stylist did not diffuse me until dry- my shirt was wet when I got home from how wet the underneath still was). It was so frizzy that I had to put it in a ponytail when I got home. If I'm going to pay over $350, my curls should last at least a few days. Moving to a new city, choosing a new salon is always risky. This time, the risk was not worth the reward for me. read more

I've damaged my hair a lot in the past and she's been really helpful in getting my hair where I want it without going overboard with coloring and possibly damaging it. The collective is attentive and wonderful! I was able to check in with a very friendly receptionist and a nice glass of champagne. My stylist picked up and was fantastic! (I'm sad to say I can't remember her name, however she is one of OG of the collective!) she shampooed me and it was so relaxing and soothing. Next she blew out my curly hair into this luscious mane. I can't get over how fantastic the service was, my superior stylist and made me feel fantastic when I walked away! Tried out The Collective for the first time today and LOVED it! I have dark, thick wavy hair and I'm super picky about getting it colored. My stylist of 8 years moved to Huntsville so I did some research and came across Taylor at The Collective. I went in for a cut, and balayage. She was so sweet, knowledgeable and gave me exactly what I asked for. I felt like I was talking to a girlfriend the whole time. My hair feels healthy, and looks beautiful! This stylist's name was Jamie. Jamie went above and beyond to make sure I was happy with my hair cut. She provided me with styling tips and took her time, making the corrections from the original haircut. Despite the negative initial visit, I would highly recommend The Collective because of the immediate response from the owner and the other stylist to correct the original experience. My former salon's owner, sadly, was jailed a few years back for tax evasion and other sordid crimes. This broke my heart because he was really quite talented, and I had grown to appreciate not only his skill with my hair, but the general feel of the salon. So for several years, I floated around - I'd find a stylist who would do a great job with my hair the first time, but subsequent cuts just didn't stack up. Finally, I asked a friend where she got her hair cut - she had grown it out over some months and it looked healthy and swing-y and great. She directed me to Lindsie Moseley at the Collective at Click. SO I told Lindsie how I loved my friend's grown-out hair - and she said that I could do that too, and she'd help ... that was a year ago, and she is SO right!! My hair looks GREAT - it's grown out but has great shape, it's healthy and shiny and I love it. And LIndsie is the best - she really respects my time, she doesn't overbook, she's never distracted - always fully focused on cutting my hair and doing a fantastic job. The whole salon is friendly - but reserved - which is so nice for an introvert like me. And they carry Oribe products - OMG, so expensive, but they smell fantastic and make your hair look great. I will occasionally splurge and treat myself :) So like other reviewers, I have nothing but awesome things to say for Lindsie - she doesn't mind that I still get Brazilian blowouts elsewhere, she even has said that it seems to help my crazy fine, curly, frizzy hair. If I could give this place 0 stars, especially the stylist Micaela, I would. This salon has no concept of customer service. I had an appointment booked for an overall color and I had previously booked with her multiple times. Due to an emergency, I was running late. I didn't have access to my phone but I borrowed someone's to leave the salon a message because I was worried that poor Micaela would think I'd no-called no-showed. Yes I said leave a message because their answering machine said that until 2:30pm they wouldn't have anyone available. I wasn't even late yet just running behind! As soon as I was able to (at this point only 2 minutes late) I rushed there. While I was one block away from the salon, I received a phone call from the receptionist who told me that while I would not be charged a fee, they would be canceling the appointment because Micaela was too closely booked. Clearly not my problem. I told her how close by I was and that I would be less than 10 minutes late. She told me that didn't matter. Really? Less than 10 minutes late due to an emergency with sufficient notice and that's worth canceling an entire booking and losing over $100? My my how nice it must be to be a "small business" like The Collective. I booked the appointment because I have an important event this weekend and wanted to look nice. I told the receptionist this, as well as that I would not be available to rebook and that if this booking was cancelled I would not be rebooking with them again. She put me on hold to confer with Micaela and when she came back said that they would still be canceling the appointment. As I said, I've been to see Micaela multiple times before and we had discussed this hair color at my last appointment. I stressed this to the receptionist but apparently when she relayed my message to Micaela, it fell on deaf ears. At this point, I was down the street and would have been at the appointment in another minute. I should also mention that I tip at least 20% every time. This kind of ungrateful, dismissive attitude towards a polite, repeat customer, especially coming from a stylist who is mediocre at best, reflects poorly on The Collective as a whole. Their apathy shows that they have no respect for their clients. In my previous appointments with Micaela she was just okay. She is moody and doesn't make conversation. I've left her good reviews to the salon in the past because I felt bad for her as a young, awkward stylist who doesn't appear to fit in with the rest of the staff. But clearly this was a waste of time and I should have put that in a public review, as I'm doing now. read more

The Collective: A group of miracle workers who will labor for 5 and a half hours to help your hair dreams come true. I had pitched my idea of going from dark brown to blonde to Diana a few months back. A less caring stylist would have said either, "You're crazy!" or "Easy peasy!" with no reservations. Diana said she would do the best she could for me, but that it may take two processings to avoid burning my hair off. I really appreciate that she wanted to protect my hair while helping me achieve my goals versus just taking my money or dismissing me. Diana is ambitious but also very careful with your hair. She understands that achieving the "right" shade at the expense of your hair's health is not always worth it. Notwithstanding, in the words of another Collective stylist, she "took [me] from a shade 2 or 3 to a shade 9 in one day, which is almost unheard of," and my hair still felt like hair afterwards! It wasn't crunchy. I would be remiss if I did not mention wonderful stylists Jamie (who did up to half of the labor), and Jhane (who also chipped in). This was a seriously LABOR-INTENSIVE project, as well as risky, but The Collective hit it out of the park! read more

I was hesitate to write this review because I am not a fan of negative reviews but after my negative experience and continual dissatisfaction with my hair I had to share I went to the salon twice for see Jhane. The first time I went for a haircut, very basic and overall she did a nice job, but I did noticed a section on the hair that was obviously longer. When the girl was done I was happy with the hair, mention the long strand and she happily cut it. My second visit was for a balayage. I showed her pictures of what I wanted. The end results was vastly different than what I showed her. But the worst part of it all was that after she blow dried my hair and I get up to leave I noticed a large portion of hair in the back that is ORANGE!( the rest of my hair is dark brown/black with platinum blonde streaks, so the orange is vastly different) I was honestly shock that a hairstylist, one I paid over $200 dollars was ok with that hair dying job and was going to let me go home like that. I then asked her what happened, as she quickly said you can come back on Tuesday. I asked what she thought of it? she then said it isn't noticeable, no one is going to see it back there. wow??!!! I would of greatly appreciated if she would of just told me about the mismatch area instead of hoping I wasn't going to notice, really? I came back on Tuesday and she worked on it and it still looked orange. I was very unhappy that the stylish kept saying everything looked great. Everyone makes mistakes but please be upfront with your mistakes and don't make your client feel terrible for what is only fair. She would benefit from more training. read more

I felt like this definitely needed to be shared. The Collective was a salon I used to really like, but I have had a horrible experience here recently, and a less than acceptable response to my request. I am including photos of my experience. I had my hair dyed a fashion color in February and it wasn't even remotely close to the reference photo I sent. There was also a lot of patchiness/brassy blonde still peaking through the color. It was also a very expensive service ($700) for me to have been this unhappy with how my hair turned out. I am including the reference photo, what I walked out of the salon with, and what my hair looked like after one wash. There was a "correction" of the blonde spots by putting more color on but it didn't actually do much as I believe the issue was with those spots needing to be further lightened before color was applied initially. I am also including a picture of the dye job I did myself, which I believe turned out much better than the $700 service I paid for. I also was not given an estimate of how much the service would be, just that it would be more expensive. Given that my usual services cost between $200-$250, I thought more expensive meant $450 tops. I should also mention the fashion color dye that was used on me is a semi-permanent dye called pulp riot which sells for about $10-15. read more

I went to The Collective for the first time today with some color that needed to be fixed and refreshed, and I came out with gorgeous highlights/lowlights and a great cut. I was nervous that my hair couldn't be fixed, but I was wrong. Jamie is super sweet, talented, and easy to talk to. She listened to what I wanted and cared about my hair's health. This place is my go to for my haircuts. The staff is always extremely nice when you walk in, book appointments, and so on. With complimentary beverages it makes it more relaxing in my opinion. I usually book appointments with Stephanie and she does an EXCELLENT job. I love how she remembers so many personal details and is able to carry on a conversation giving it that personal, salon feel.
