Harthan since 2019, I suffer from Sjögren's Syndrome and required transplant of the cornea on both eyes and prevented me from seeing, she recommended the use of scleral lenses took her time to explain my problem and condition of my vision and the way the scleral lens would benefit my vision, I was depending on my family members to guide me places but after Dr. Harthan provided the scleral lens I can move on my own and go places without the help of any oner by my side. Another top notch exam and great service by Doc, interns and Marylin who are all friendly, assertive and know their stuff. Had a huge misunderstanding and took it up with BCBS and will be cancelling that shitty insurance as they're contracting as well as with a few other insurance companies that look good on the surface. Not naming names. Doc is the best, he had a sidekick intern as well as office staff there just after COVID. Everyone was super friendly and the new office staff girl was super laid back - the intern explained everything then Doc came in and did his thing. Think of a sporting event - he's there and on the spot. He comes in, does his thing - explains it all and lets the intern go from there. Due to the discrepancy with BCBS I footed the bill myself. He'd also take your old favorite lenses and replace them but remember if the frames are too old (just send pics in and go from there) then you're outta luck. He said about two (2) weeks as they're super busy, sending orders out to labs then other places to get the tints, etc.. Got a call today, end of the day before the holiday. Came in, popped the frames on and everything was perfect. Not sure why people are complaining on here. Doc is one of the top 5 if not top 3 eye docs on the North Shore; and he educates and teaches as well as covers sporting events and all sorts of interesting avenues. Talk about experience, there ya go. In the end I called BCBS today and laid into them. When I'd call to complain initially, they took the insurance complaint against the Doc when it was against BCBS. Called them today and told them to clean up their act, stop the lies and bullshit and drop this so-called claim and listen to the call as everything was documented wrong. BCBS IS horrible. read more

Oh my goodness- wish had read these reviews years ago! I thought I was being overly critical. Love Dr H- love the techs in the back office- and this is the main reason we keep going back but have continually had horrible experiences with the front desk staff. Similar issues as to what others on here are saying with them telling me I gave them the wrong phone number- not issuing a credit on my cc for weeks for sun glasses that didn't work- and all around rudeness from the man who handles glasses orders to the front check in staff. It's almost like their customers are a bother! I am switching ASAP! Ps they told me today they don't do cc credits- only write refund checks twice a month. They have now had my money for over a month. read more

Incompetent staff from the receptionist to the doctor himself. I had an appointment here and was told all was fine, but then started experiencing strange symptoms several days later and they told me they could not see me. OK... I then went to a nearby optometrist who made time for me that same day. He told me that not only was my script for eyeglasses way off, but there was something seen during my dilation that caused that doctor some concern and he referred me to a specialist. Why didn't Glenview Vision catch this when they dilated my eyes?? They also billed my insurance incorrectly even though I repeated it twice on the phone while making my appointment and then again in the office. It is obvious that this establishment is poorly managed and they are scheduling too many patients in an effort to bill more instead of provide quality care. I will not be back here, especially after hearing from my new optometrist that they have dealt with this problem before from the same doctor and it is an ongoing occurrence. Judging by their passive aggressive remarks to yet another negative review, I'd venture to guess they know of their obvious problems and just don't care enough to resolve it. read more

Scleral lens, long post! My husband lost his eye sight due to Sjögren's syndrome about 9 months ago. He was diagnosed with autoimmune bilateral meltdown. He had two partial cornea transplants at Loyola (by Ophthalmologist Dr. Bouchard). Since January we were trying to get him fitted for the scleral lenses. Due to cataract surgery in March we had to postpone the scleral lens fitting. In May he saw one doctor and he was very rough and had no experience with the scleral lens. My husband was very discouraged by the doctor's attitude. I scheduled an appointment with another doctor and it was a six week waiting period before we could get In to see her. Every doctor we called had the same waiting time and none were near. We live in the northwest suburbs and the doctors we were calling were in Oakbrook or Oaklawn. A very kind doctor we went to see in Arlington Hts referred us to Dr. Harthan. Words are not enough to express our gratitude and how pleased we are with her. She took us in right away, she is conveniently located, we didn't have to travel 45 minutes to an hour to see her as we've been doing since we began this journey. But what's most important is that Dr. Harthan is a brilliant doctor, she is knowledgeable, experienced and compassionate. Dr. Harthan cares and is passionate about what she does. Her mission is to do all that is in her power to help my husband see again. She is working hard and is going above and beyond the call of duty. If you are looking for a scleral lens specialist, look no more cause you just found her!! The office staff are awesome, they are friendly, cordial and helpful. Totally agreed with Jennifer above!!! I went in there originally for my two boys' vision test. They convinced me to take the exam even though I didn't need it because of they can get insurance $$. They were completely unprofessional and told me I had abnormal eye pressure and I could have glaucoma. At the same test, they made me take the vision field test and charged me a significant amount. Told me my vision field has been damaged. Told me to follow up in a couple months with them to continue testing my field vision!!! This was completely unprofessional and they are providing diagnosis while they are not qualified to do so. I kept calling back asking for more clarifications and they would not help me at all. I was so freaked out that I joined the glaucoma support group and finally scheduled an appointment with the real doctor, opthmalogist. The doc did a detailed exam and said nothing was wrong with me... Optometrist is NOT medical doctor and they should refer me immediately to the real doctor rather continue to do procedures on me to get my insurance $$$. I will never ever go back to them ever again! read more

Update: After seeing another vision care provider in the same area for another mandatory kindergarten exam, I'm coming back to upgrade my review for Glenview Vision Care from four stars to five stars. My family doesn't have a great vision care plan and we were charged more than double at another location down the street for a simple kindergarten screening. Glenview Vision Care was always very upfront with their charges - the other location was not! Shop around because prices DO vary for something as simple as a mandatory kindergarten eye exam. After being burned, Glenview Vision Care's pricing does seem more reasonable. read more

I've been here twice now, and both visits have been great. I saw Dr Beckerman the first time I came, and due to the fact that I have keratoconus, he recommended that I see Dr Harthan the next time because she specializes in that area. Both doctors were very friendly and helpful, almost perfectly corrected my vision (which has been hard to do lately) and gave great advice for things that I should consider in the future and what my options are. The office staff has also been wonderful in ordering my specialty lenses and managing my insurance. They even made sure I got a company rebate for my first set of lenses there. The office hours are great, although Dr Harthan only has hours here on Saturdays, but I have always been able to schedule appointments quickly and easily. He is friendly and clearly has ready knowledge of optometry, including the rarer cases like mine who wear one hard (gas permeable) lens; as well as my vision insurance provider, and its coverage and limitations. I would not go back to this place to have my eyes checked. The staff was unprofessional. I felt like they were talking about me while I was there! I was a little needy, and had some demands, but I felt like they were not appropriate in dealing with me. They made a mistake and I complained. Doctors are very nice, professional, and informative. However, receptionists are horrible and not professional. One man in particular was very rude, defensive, and full of attitude on the phone. Very misleading when I wanted to order new contacts. The other receptionist was nice on the phone but was not knowledgeable about my eye care and what charges I was receiving. Overall, not at all impressed with customer service from reception staff. Would be better talking straight with a doctor. Trying to switch eye doctors based on this experience. read more

Worst experience ever. They kept sending us Bills for contact lenses we never brought. Very rude staff. All they want is your money. They keep harrassing you for money. The managers there are worst specially Jesus he kept asking my daughter for her credit card information for contacts lenses she never purchased. Horrible. I made an appointment over the phone after finding this clinic on my company provider list. The receptionist took both my vision insurance providers and made my appointment. So I show up to the appointment and the receptionist tells me they don't take either of my insurances and asked if I wanted to pay cash. I was beyond angry after taking time off work but I simply Saint no and left. What a sham business - not sure if they were trying to fleece me or if the receptionist is too lazy or dumb to do her job. Either way do not use this optometry service at all costs. read more

I went to see Dr. Beckerman because of all the good yelp reviews but my experience was anything but - IF I COULD GIVE MINUS STARS I WOULD. I called & said I thought I was getting allergic to my contacts because it felt like I had cat litter in my left eye & needed to get glasses because I don't have a backup pair. During the eye exam the doctor was in a hurry, multitasking, the assistant came in several times asking questions about other patients, and he was impatient if I didn't answer his questions quickly enough. He said glasses wouldn't be a good idea for me because my eyes have such different Rxs, to try a different brand of contacts. I said what happens if I'm allergic to these contacts too & he said he's never had anyone be allergic to them. Within 2 days it felt like I had gravel in my eye so I called the office & asked if I could try a brand I've used in the past. They don't have them in the office & had to order a trial & were expecting them to come in a few days - so I cancelled the follow up appointment because I'm waiting on these. In the meantime it's getting worse - now both my eyes are hurting and feel like they are on fire by the end of the day. I call the office back again asking if the trial lenses are in - only the left eye is in. I tell them my eyes are getting worse & need something, can they give me a sample of some other brand in the meantime - they say they don't have anything. I'm taking my contacts out at work and only using them to drive to & from work. I call back again and tell them that my eyes feel horrible & I'm desperate & need something ASAP. I asked them can I get some glasses but I'm not sure the prescription is right for the glasses & need to talk to the dr. By now the receptionist Carolynn is not even trying to hide her contempt for me & repeatedly tells me that I cancelled my appointment & they don't have anything until next week. Really? Can't squeeze me in? It's been a week and a half since the initial appointment & I have ZERO solutions to my problems & am scared I'm going to do damage to my eyes. So I called another place, they took me in ASAP and the doctor 1. Listened to me uninterrupted 2. Looked under my eyelid (Dr. Beckerman did not) and said I have Giant Papillary Conjunctivitis 3. Wrote me an Rx for eye drops & said the GPC needs to clear up before I can wear contacts again & said to get glasses in the meantime. OMG a solution to my problem - who knew? Not Dr. Beckerman - thanks for nothing! UPDATE: Got a call that the trial contacts came in & I haven't picked them up for obvious reasons. It's been 12 days and there has been no follow up calls from the office wondering how I'm doing, come in for a follow up. I could have corneal ulcers by now and they could care less. read more

I was in search of a new optometrist since I had moved out of my neighborhood and ended up trying GVC. The ladies at the front desk were very attentive and helped me with all my questions and needs. The doctors made me feel comfortable and welcome. I was very thankful for all the patience when I was selecting out glasses as well as I find this the hardest part of the visit. I have been going to Glenview vision for at least the last 20 years. I have referred people to them on many occasions until recently. I received what appeared to be an invoice 2 years ago asking for charges for my daughter who was 14 at the time. She is now 21 years old. I called and questioned the invoice because it was not on any Glenview Vision stationary and appeared to be generated off of Word document. The support staff could not explain or advise me what the charges were for so I simply told them I wasn't going to pay it until I receive a legitimate invoice and explanation of service. I have not heard anything in the last 2 years until recently when I received the phone call from there support staff demanding payment be made over the phone or in person. I believe the original charge was somewhere in the neighborhood of $74 and has now accumulated too close to $400 in accrued interest. I have never agreed to finance anything through Glenview vision and they are obviously in violation of the fair debt collection Act. I actually after much resistance ask for the doctor Steven Beckerman to return my call so that I could express my displeasure with his staff. He was just as aggressive and uncooperative as his incompetent staff. I asked him if he remembered who I was and asked how long I had been going to his office and how long he had been my eye doctor and his reply was" forever". After I explained the situation to him he was totally unaffected nor sympathetic or apologetic on threatening my 14 year old daughter with sending her account to a collection agency and ruining her credit. Dr. Stever Beckerman didn't care after I informed them I would file a complaint. He simply said you have to do what you have to do. I also mention to him he was in violation of charging interest on the account without authorization or an agreement. I informed him if that was his position I would no longer patronize his establishment. His reply was that I was free to go to any eye doctor that I felt I wanted to go to and he basically had no interest in keeping me as a patient after 20+years. So what I have done is I have found a better qualified eye doctor and will take four of his patients with me. If you go to Glenview vision good luck and you'll get what you pay for or not pay for in the form of disrespect especially a patient like myself who is been going to him for over 20 years. I guess it's all about the $74 and no longer about patient care. read more

Dr. Beckerman and his staff are always welcoming and courteous. I have rarely had to wait more than 10 minutes with an appointment and when the Dr. is with you, he takes the time to answer your questions. As I have problems with my eyes that go beyond the usual annual eye exam I also like the fact that this Dr. still appears to take the time to study all of the latest innovations and surgical procedures. If I could give him zero I would..... my first appointment was fine with the exam but his assistant was clueless on things. while checking out to pay his front desk person was bitching about a client. not professional. my second visit was delayed 2 days because they didn't have my correct phone number. they said I gave them the wrong number. I'm not an idiot I know my phone number from the past 20 years. I went in but they didn't have my glasses, but had my trial contact. first time for me to try contacts out. the assistant couldn't really explain to me how to put it in. 2 days later I went back because my vision was horrible. my glasses still weren't done yet. dr b ordered me another pair of trial contacts. the next day I picked up my glasses that ended up being like a bottle glass lens. I couldn't see a thing. I made an appointment for the following Monday. Went in and the reception was saying to the assistant I was back yet again with a complaint about my glasses and then was looking at me and laughing at me. I walked up to them to say that they were extremely rude and not professional and I haven't had a good experience yet in this office. Dr B walked up to me and very rudely said "good bye" you should leave. I've never had such a horrible experience in my life!! I come from retail and sales and have been very patient in this 2 week time frame just waiting for glasses for me to be able to see things out of. I would never step foot in this place again!!
