I love love LOVE this dermatology center! I have been going here for maybe about two years now and all I can say it's been the BEST decision I've made for my skin! I saw 2 dermatologists before seeing Tammy. They both told me I needed to go on Acutane - but after seeing some friends/family members on it I truly felt like my skin didn't need a solution as intense as that. I decided to try one more location/derm to get a 3rd opinion. Without Acutane (or any intense or invasive procedures) Tammy and Shakeh have TRANSFORMED my skin!!! Perks: - they are very flexible with appointments - Tammy is extremely kind, thoughtful and knowledgeable. I appreciated her kind words and guidance while I was dealing with my acne. She truly listened to my concerns and has been extremely supportive during my entire journey. - Shakeh is just as amazing! I see her for facials every month and she does miracles! The facials I receive are the ones where she just really gets the "gunk" out - which is exactly what I want. My skin has never felt so smooth. All of that to say, it's not a very "relaxing" facial (which I'm sure she can do) but for me I want to leave with really smooth my skin and that's exactly what she does. No other esthetician has done work like her!!! - parking is always available (and it's FREE) - they have taken my multiple insurance plans - front desk/receptionists are always kind whenever I'm running late or need to reschedule. Shakeh is AMAZING. She takes her time to talk to you about your skin concerns and really get to know your skin, catering to all your needs. She has excellent customer service and is always making me laugh. The products she has recommended (cleanser, toner, moisturizer, and sunscreen) have worked great on my skin (better than any other products). I started coming to the Glendale South Skin & Beauty center in mid-December of last year, and WOW has it changed my life in just a few months! Once I was off hormonal birth control, I started to develop horrible cystic acne all over my face-- as well as break outs on my back. Feeling so defeated, my parents sent me to PA, Tammy Chu where I was prescribed both topical and oral medication. Dr. Chu was so considerate of my needs, and really showed a sense of empathy towards my struggles. As a patient, I felt so heard and cared for while Tammy walked me through the next steps in treating my acne. She also referred me to the best aesthetician, Shakeh Hartonian, for regular facials or "acne surgery." Shakeh is so kind and fun to talk to! She also gives the best recommendations for products with her knowledge and love for being an aesthetician. After only a few months of treatment and 4 facials from Shakeh, I haven't had any cystic breakouts! I feel confident to go out without makeup every day, and slowly the scarring from previous breakouts is fading. This office over schedules their patients. They seem to be more interested in profits over providing quality patient care. I waited a whole hour past my appointment time with no apology from the staff, and it was very crowded in the waiting room. I paid out of pocket for my visit ($200 upfront) instead of going to my usual derm clinic with my insurance because I thought I would receive a higher standard of care, I thought wrong. I saw Dr Kang for some medical skin issues, not cosmetic. She was pleasant and didn't rush me BUT after the appointment, I saw a lot of things in the notes about my condition that we never discussed, said things like "patients was instructed to try__, advised to__" etc when I never was, with a list of things that weren't mentioned at all during my appointment. When I called asking for clarification (twice), they said "Patients are not usually interested in trying those things but you can discuss it with the doctor if you want" Um, well shouldn't the patient decide? What am I paying for then? It's just so lazy and makes me think they don't care as much about their medical patients as they do their cosmetic ones. The follow up was scheduled for 2 months and I felt it was too far out. The other thing that I find frustrating is, prescriptions are sent to a "specialty" pharmacy that is farther away and more expensive compared to just going to a local CVS. Dr Kang wanted me to try an expensive (Over 1k!) cream (which was not even guaranteed to help) so I asked for a cheaper alternative (only $70), which has now been "delayed" at this pharmacy for more than a week! This pharmacy also sent me a few marketing spam messages, including calls that have nothing to do with my prescription, and it was really bizarre. Overall I'm disappointed and will be following up with a different provider. read more

For those who have been following the saga of my internal abdominal cyst since April 30th - a cancer scare, a visit to Urgent care and ER twice and then to a horrible experience with the Skin & Beauty Center in Burbank - there is another update (and there will be more after this!). Just a refresher, my doctor didn't know whether to send me to a surgeon or dermatologist (obviously a surgeon, duh!) and had me see a dermatologist at the Skin & Beauty Center in Burbank. I was already displeased as I didn't like them to begin with (I've been there before and they are a cosmetic procedure type spot, mostly). Regardless, I made my appointment only to drive there needlessly because I was scheduled incorrectly with a doctor who wasn't in my insurance plan. They didn't apologize for my waste of time/gas and blamed the error on the call center; but did re-schedule me for two weeks out. Instead of apologizing they tried to complain to Yelp about my review (which Yelp kept up, take that!). I told my doctor I wasn't returning to them and I received a new referral... to Glendale Dermatology aka the Skin & Beauty Center, Glendale location. I was worried about staying with the same 'chain' but what can I do? I called to make my appointment and spoke to a young man named Lance and proceeded to tell him about the awful experience with the Burbank location and the alleged call center booking error. Lance was very kind, apologized on everyone's behalf and made the appointment for the Glendale location. I asked for confirmation FIVE times that all was well, this time. He replied in the positive. A couple days later I received a call from the Burbank location office manager (I thought I was going to be yelled at for the Yelp review) and she said she saw my Glendale appointment in the system but it once again was made with a doctor who doesn't cover me. WHAT THE HECK, LANCE?! She was gracious enough to go into the system and book me appropriately. What is wrong with their call center and making appointments falsely?!  To say the least, I had low expectations for this appointment but luckily, I was proven wrong. The Glendale location is located on Chevy Chase Drive in a medical building not far from the Glenoaks intersection. I was warned ahead of time that parking is tricky (street parking) but luckily found a spot right in front. I was instantly impressed with the building's interior which is modern, shiny with spotless gleam, airy and frankly: very nice. The same can be said of the actual office lobby which is on the smaller side but clean and comfortable enough. Check in was easy and the front desk girls actually knew about my experience so guess I've been the talk of the town with Skin & Beauty Centers! The wait was rather quick and I was led into a room which was spacious with windows opening to gorgeous elevated views of Glendale and filled with natural sun light. I'm telling you this place is niicccee! I met with a nurse who listened to my entire story and looked at all my records before meeting with Dr. David Navi. Dr. Navi instantly had great bedside manner - he just has a great vibe both friendly and intelligent/professional. Dr. Navi also patiently listened to everything I had to say about the cyst journey and explained all of his own thoughts/reactions. He also was on the ball with asking for a female to step into the room (as required in medical settings when the area of examination is a sensitive spot). My only complaint with the examination was that I had to change into a gown and the windows didn't have shades. Although the room is on a high floor and no one can see inside that far; I was still nervous about de-clothing. As I said from the BEGINNING; I need a surgeon for the removal of this cyst and not a dermatologist, as confirmed by Dr. Navi. Dr. Navi assured me that he would let my doctor know so that she can request an authorization referral for a surgeon. Staff did complete this task rather quickly as I called my doctor to check and it was in a few days later (my appointment was on Thursday July 3rd so it was at my doctor's office after the holiday weekend). The Glendale location of Skin & Beauty Center (Glendale Dermatology) is night and day from the Burbank location: the building/office is beautiful, staff is great, Dr. Navi is wonderful and they do their jobs correctly. If you are able to choose locations, go with Glendale. The call center clearly needs to get their butts into gear, though, as I was scheduled incorrectly, twice. Sheesh. I'm still not sure I'm fan of Skin & Beauty Center, overall, but the Glendale location definitely shines with a gold star. read more
