Years ago, I brought my mother to him for her skin issues, and he worked wonders, as mentioned in my previous review. A couple of months ago, I faced a serious predicament when Huntington Hospital misdiagnosed me with the worst type of cancer. For months, I was unable to sleep, running from one doctor to another in search of answers. Dr. Mehrabi came to mind, and I quickly arranged an appointment with him. The front desk was incredibly accommodating and provided me with the earliest appointment available. Upon my visit, he performed a biopsy, and just one week later, the results confirmed that I was all clear. But Dr. Mehrabi didn't stop there. Alongside his dedicated front desk staff and trusted pathologist, he worked in perfect harmony to ensure clarity regarding my diagnosis. They coordinated with the hospital to review both the old and new biopsy results. After much effort and back-and-forth communication, Huntington Hospital had no choice but to reevaluate the initial biopsy. They discovered that my sample had been contaminated with another patient's sample. Absolute lack of professionalism. Avoid this place! I highly do not recommend this place. It is poorly managed, the staff is rude, and they use completely untransparent, predatory billing practices. Here is exactly what happened: They scheduled my appointment during a time the clinic was closed. I ended up waiting in the hallway for an hour until the office finally opened after lunch. The woman at the front desk was extremely rude and unprofessional. The doctor literally refused to come out and see me. Predatory paperwork: I was handed paperwork to sign and told I wouldn't be seen without a signature. The document basically stated that I must agree to pay whatever amount they decide to charge, without providing any upfront estimates. Withholding basic information: They refused to tell me what services would be performed, denied providing a price list, and refused to confirm whether they take my insurance or how much of it would be covered. This is completely unprofessional, unethical, and unacceptable. If you don't want to waste your time, stress out, and risk getting hit with massive surprise bills, stay far away from this office. The main dr there is not helpful at all. It seems like he only cares for cosmetic dermatology. He wasn't interested in trying to help me and kept telling me, "it's nothing. It's nothing. I'm glad I'm doing better too. And it has been over five years now. That's how traumatic the experience was. I'm updating the review to let you know that your lack of empathy has had such a profound effect on me. So maybe you can learn to do better in the future. And what was racist was that after getting the biopsy results, what I was told was that this is something your staff sees all the time in African women. And that unfortunately, because I'm African, what was a POSSIBLE diagnosis based on the biopsy MUST be the case. And it was not the case at all. Due to their unwillingness to look past racial prejudice, your team was unable to help me. And I was mocked, looked down on, and even portrayed as aggressive, while my pain was dismissed. Repeatedly. And my voice as a patient was heard as unintelligent. Anyone who has experienced dismissal by healthcare providers due to their race can relate to what I'm saying here. You're supposed to be doctors. And treat patients with care. You failed me at every turn. Of course you think that because someone is of color, they can't be racist towards someone who is of color, but is a different ethnicity. This is why I'm coming back to update the review. This is the lack of empathy and understanding that has caused me so much pain over the years. If I cancel an appointment, they're gonna charge me money so I'm paying for something that I'm not getting. Secondly they want my credit card information on file. 5 stars for this place in general but 1 star for Elana. I wish I could get a do over. The amazing person I used to see left and I got matched with Elana. I am dealing with female hair loss. I don't think I need to tell you how traumatic that is. I was using a topical medicine that was driving me insane and she switched me to the oral medicine, which was great, but she didn't explain that I WOULD SHED SO MUCH HAIR THAT MY BATHROOM FLOOR TURNED GREY within minutes. It was like a Stephen king movie and NO WARNING. this happened to me while I was traveling for work and sent me into an absolute panic. I had to find my answers on Google and Reddit - and a lot of that is just people panicking so it didn't make me feel better. Am I on the right dose? Is there a path to later increase the dose? Is this normal and ok? I called and asked this question and the wording she sent back was "you don't have to take this medicine if you don't want to". WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? Are you telling me it's not working? Are you telling me it's working and I just need to get throughthis stage? NO. ANSWERS. I switched from the Encino location to the Glendale location and noticed too late to cancel that she is there too and they ARGH put me back with her so I just went to a second appointment with her thinking OK give her a second chance she was worse. She did my yearly skin exam and I've never had a more half a$$ed exam in my life. She didn't really look at my scalp and completely ignored my feet and I had to point out a mole on my foot to ask her specifically and walk her through. Is this one OK? Is this one OK? She gives me the news that my hair is growing back, but it's "probably not going to get back to baseline" and then does everything she can jet out of the room. I tried to get more answers out of her, but the answers I got were minimal. I have so many unanswered questions. Am I on the right dose of the medicine? Reddit tells me there are two other medicines that you can be prescribed for this. Would they work better? Am I a lost cause? Did the hair follicles die? My last provider said I was in great shape did something change? Can I look at a hair transplants if not? Is that a viable option for me? Who would do that? Do I need to worry about menopause or get a hormonal test? I asked her some of these questions and she blew me off. So I'm looking for a new place that specializes in female hair loss to get a second opinion - I need to understand what my options are and I don't care that Elana says something is invasive or costly - it's my decision to pay for it. Not hers. But I need to be properly informed by someone who isn't named Google. read more

This review is solely based off the partnership this office has with their "Specialty Pharmacy" they use to assist with filling patient prescriptions. I came to this office as a first time patient on Tuesday, April 9th. As of today, I still haven't been able to have one of my prescriptions filled. Due to the prescription that was prescribed, my insurance plan requires a prior authorization for approval. I was informed that the pharmacy in Beverly Hills- "Beverly Hills Apothecary" would be calling me the patient to ensure they received the prescription and would then begin the process of submitting the authorization to my plan. I never received a call from the pharmacy and then had to follow up with the office to then find out that the script hadn't even been faxed until a day or two later. I was then told by the pharmacy that my plan said it would take 72 hours, after 72 hours had passed, I called the pharmacy to follow up and again was told it would take another 72 hours. As someone who works with payers for a living, I know for a fact that it doesn't take this long to have an auth either approved or denied. At most the turnaround time is 48 hours. To confirm that this pharmacy was lying, I called the plan myself and they confirmed that there was no authorization on file for this medication. Once I received confirmation, I called the Dermatologist and let them know of my frustration and the issue I have been having with this incompetent pharmacy. I asked if the PA who sent my prescription could please submit the authorization directly to the plan to avoid any further delay. I even obtained the form for them from my plan and was willing to fax it over to the office. I was told that wasn't an option unless I wanted to pay an additional fee. This level of patient care is unacceptable. I am still now out of the prescription I was prescribed two weeks ago. Is this how all the patients are cared for, more importantly ones who are suffering from serious skin conditions. read more

All the doctors I've seen here are great, they take their time with you and kindly answer all my questions. It's pretty easy to get an appointment. The downsides are that there is often a wait to be seen (which is challenging when taking time off work for a doctor's appointment), and nearly every time I call the office to get test results, make or change an appointment etc, I am put on hold for 10-20 minutes. To get my test results when I called this week, calling back after receiving a voicemail, it took 37 minutes to get the person on the phone who could share my results (which is quite stressful, on many levels.) To me, this shows a sign of understaffing or poor management systems in place. I understand a 5-10 minute wait when it's busy, but nearly 40 minutes is just unacceptable. I hope management looks into adding additional staff or updating the system for getting test results, to resolve this issue. read more

THEIR PRE-BILLING PRACTICES ARE AWFUL ================================= I have good insurance and they are an in network contracted provider, yet the minute I arrive for my appointment they ask me for money up front. Normally, I'd receive the EOB (Explanation of Benefits) a couple weeks later and sure enough they've overcharged me. Then I have to waste time e-mailing their billing person because she doesn't take calls. To add to the whole annoying situation is having to wait weeks for a refund. When your other clients wake-up and smell the coffee they won't be back either. Hopefully they'll read my review before making an appointment. read more

Please don't come to this office Liz and Dr. Maggio are extremely rude. Dr. Maggio doesn't have a pleasant bedside manner at all. The doctor came in and barely looked at my face. She suggested she could do steroid shots in my face and that it may cause indents or craters. As a licensed dermatologist I asked Liz was there anything she could do to ensure it doesn't cause craters. And Liz responded rudely and said don't get them then and walked out. Very rude take your business and hard earned money elsewhere, because they don't care. Acne is already hard to deal with and dealing with rude, insensitive doctors doesn't make it easier. Update: Dr. Mehrabi and Tracy called me back and they made the situation much better. Dr. Mehrabi has such a pleasant bedside manner, and he knew exactly what to do he extracted the pimples instead of doing an unnecessary injection that could potentially make the condition worse. She was SUPER patient as I asked her 78909780 questions about what could be the cause, how to diagnose & resolve. She was super informative and organized my next step which was to give blood and review/diagnose various environmental reasons. UPDATE 09/13: Dr. Mehrabi kindly reached out to me following my experience during my first appointment, which shows professionalism and initiative in addressing my less than ideal experience. I certainly understand that the pandemic has caused more staffing shortages and introduces logistical challenges we all have to deal with. I'm happy that I've been able to resolve those issues with BHSkin as I was motivated to establish care with their doctors and continue visiting their office. New patients should show up 15 minutes prior to their first appointment. If you are reading this considering establishing care with BHSkin Dermatology, I highly recommend doing so. I also suggest that when you call to set up your first appointment that you ask the staff members you speak with to take your email address and allow you to provide intake information and forms through their online patient portal. But that's something anyone should do with all of their healthcare providers when establishing care! I'm looking forward to my follow-up appointment in Encino and working with BHSkin for dermatological care in the future! ** If you are coming in for your first appointment, show up 15 minutes before your appointment time!! ** I was not seen until 45 minutes after my scheduled appointment time after waiting in the lobby for 45 minutes. When I arrived for my first appointment with BHSkin, I was presented with intake forms. This was expected, and the forms took roughly 2-3 minutes for me to fill out. What was not expected was sitting in the lobby for 45 minutes. After 45 minutes, I approached the front desk to inquire about why I was still waiting, and was told that the staff there was still putting the information from my forms into the system. They then mentioned that patients coming to their first appointment should show up 45 minutes early. At this point, it would have been advisable for me to walk out and I'm not sure why I didn't. Unfortunately, although BHSkin called me 3 times in advance of my appointment, not once did they inform me to come in 45 minutes early to my appointment. I would have had no problem coming 45 minutes early to my appointment to make sure the entire process went well, had I known. But due to this error, I missed two work meetings due to the appointment starting 45 minutes after my originally scheduled time. I'm relieved to see that the owner of BHSkin reads and replies to reviews. This review is not meant to shy people away from BHSkin, but to inform others to show up 15 minutes early to your first appointment in case you're not told otherwise. And maybe this review will lead to better pre-appointment communication and practices by BHSkin in the future. Very unorganized clinic. They have few people working at the front desk and yet they can't provide a good service and patient car I took my father to this clinic for his skin lesion that was on his face. The lesions was removed by Dr.Maggio which did a good job. Then we got a call regarding the pathology results but I was never able to get hold of anyone to get me the results. I called multiple times and I did not get any answers. They would say that someone would call back and the secretaries can not give out the results. So since we didn't not get any results after many attempts, I took my father back to the clinic for a follow up appointment. Again we waited for a long period of time to see the doctor. Overall very unorganized clinic and long wait time. I would not recommend this clinic to anyone for many reasons. The worst experience at a "Doctors" office. Front desk staff was rude, speaking another language and giggling in front of patients, could not verify my insurance for 30 minutes. When I finally got called in to be seen by the doctor they threw this bs PA at me that had no clue or never seen alopecia and couldn't recommend anything for me. I asked where Dr Mehrabi was because thats who I made my appointment with and im told hes busy in surgery. Why did I not get a call to be informed that I will not be seen by the doctor but by some PA. Had I known Dr was not available I would not have wasted my time coming down. They tell me I can wait a few minutes hes almost done and will see me. 45 minutes later no doctor and I get told did you wanna wait or see the PA. I walked off this appointment because at this point I've been at my appointment for 2 hours!!!!!! This place is a joke. If you're gonna bait and switch doctor to a PA at least tell the patient in advance. What a scam. Read the Google reviews on the rude staff. When I asked if they have any sanitizer which you find it even in regular stores, she said they don't have it in the office while she had one just next to herself.
