A few weeks ago, a big truck hauling rocks and gravel that did not have its load tied down, broke my windshield. After doing some research and reading a lot of reviews, I decided to have my windshield replaced by Glass Monkey, which is conveniently located near the Boise Costco. Never having had as much as a rock chip repair, I had all kinds of questions about the process. Nicole went above and beyond in answering them, as well as scheduling my service. Originally, I wanted OEM glass, but due to a cyber attack on June 19, the ability to order parts via dealerships with an ETA came to a standstill. Because the crack was significant and in my line of vision, I was not comfortable with the idea of waiting up to 6 months or longer to have my windshield replaced. So, I went with OEE. Nicole assured me that my new windshield would be every bit as good as the original. I took her at her word, but I was nervous because I had read online reviews about people getting windshield replacements at other businesses which were not up to par with the original. I also know visual distortions can put you at risk for accidents while driving. I'm Type A when it comes to my vision. That includes my ability to see clearly through my windshield. I drive around with a roll of paper towels and a full can of Sprayway Glass Cleaner in my trunk. If anyone can tell the difference between an OEM and an OEE windshield, it will be me. Glass Monkey has FREE mobile service, but I chose to drive to the shop because of its proximity to Costco. My windshield was replaced by Kevin, who has years of experience. Kevin did a great job! I was in and out quickly. Over the course of the past three weeks, I have done a combination of city and highway. Nicole was right!!! I can tell no difference between my OEM windshield and my new OEE windshield. I couldn't be happier with the service I received at Glass Monkey. Best price option. Best availability option. When looking for new auto glass, always include Glass Monkey in your group of estimates. You won't regret it. I used the Yelp request for estimate process to get a few estimates for replacing the windshield on the old swamp buggy. My car is a rock magnet. The stone and rock damage over 11 years was just too much to bear any more. Everytime the sun hit a certain way, I could barely make out the road. Glass Monkey responded at about the same speed as the others, but the difference was the price and the next available appointment. They run a mobile service and a garage service. I chose to go to their garage. They started on the car ahead of my appointment as I got there early. With a little bit of muscle, the old glass was out. They thoroughly cleaned and vaccumed the inside of my car since pulling a windshield can get messy. It was fast process once the old was out. Great folks, totally professional and fast. I would put the names of the other shops in the review, but I think it ignorant and classless to assert that all car windshields can be compared in that manner. A few years ago, a rock flew up on the windshield of my 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek while driving to SLC from Boise. It was an instant crack, but on the passenger side, so not a huge issue. Fast forward to a few days ago, I heard a noise while driving home from a local trailhead. Next thing you know, I'm watching this crack spread across my entire window, and I'm like that dog in the meme with the coffee and fire. This is okay. This is fine. Everything is just fine. Except it wasn't. Some panic seeped in, as I didn't want to drive my wife and child around town with that whole situation going on. When I got home, I hit up my insurance carrier and got a quote from that SFLT company that was suspiciously close to my deductible. I sent messages here on Yelp to a handful of local shops. They all beat that quote by cutting about 1/3 of the cost (SHOCKING, big corporation with large advertising budgets overcharges consumers), including Chris @ Glass Monkey. I called a little over a month ago to get a quote they said it would be 360-400 for my front glass. Waited a few weeks and called back this time they had one in stock and it would be 315 so I booked the appointment. The day before the install they left a voicemail saying they could not locate the glass and would need to reschedule when they had one in stock. I called to get a timeline and noted the price difference and if they could get to the quoted 315 I would do it. Glass monkey was prompt to answer my inquiry about fixing a windshield chip through yelp. I chose them due to the walk in nature of their shop. I showed up during lunch hour. I had to wait 5 minutes for them to finish up a job, then it was my turn to bring my car into the garage. They could tell it had been a previous chip that was already repaired and therefore wouldn't be completed invisible after repair, but repair would decrease the risk of a crack forming. I took the gamble when my windshield broke and went with the cheapest estimate, crossing my fingers. Several months after install, I've been really pleased! The guys came out to my house within 24 hours after I put in my request, installed my new windshield for the estimated cost with no weird extras for disposal, mobile service, or credit card processing, and gave a lifetime guarantee (in writing).
