The food was excellent, everything was quality in flavour and presentation. We got for appetizers the Shrimp Tacos and Tuna Tartare, the flavour was excellent in both, the only thing is with the taco it was a little hard to eat as a bite would crumble it haha. For mains we got Beef Bourginon with a side of rice, and two Spaghetti ai Frutti di Mare. The beef was so tender and flavourful with no foul odour or tastes, and it still had the integrity of the meat itself. The seafood spaghetti was wonderfully spicy but not too much, it's got our inner chef's trying to figure out the secret to the delicious sauce. It had an abundance of seafood taste permeating the dish as well as the individual seafoods involved. The ambiance on a friday afternoon/evening was surprisingly quiet. Though I'm aware at prime hot times, it can be very difficult to get a table without a reservation. We were lucky to be able to dine here with no reservation today. Finally, the service was immaculate. With my parents, they had trouble understanding and deciphering the menu and the two girls available locked the hell in and swapped to cantonese when addressing my parents. Tucked in a quieter area of Markham, Glad's menu is inspired from all corners of the world with Asian, European, American, and Middle Eastern. FOOD (2.5/5) 1/5 - Truffle Fries are absolutely not worth it. We got this as a shareable and the fries are not really seasoned and the only flavour comes from the truffle and horseradish aioli dip. 3.5/5 - Spaghetti ai Frutti di Mare is nicely seasoned and lightly spicy pasta dish with big pieces of seafood. Mussels, prawn, and squid cooked well and came together nicely. 2.5/5 - Thai Style Fried Chicken is more of a shareable. It is super crispy with a bed of radish and thai chili-fish sauce. It gets a bit monotonous after multiple consecutive bites. Needs a starch to balance out. 3.5/5 - Taiwanese Braised Pork rice bowl was textbook with braised pork belly that was good balance of sweet and savoury. Served with tofu, hardboiled tea egg, and radish. Would've preferred more pork instead of the tofu. 3/5 - Tuscan Salmon was decent but nothing special. The sauce was like a rose sauce which was nice and tangy. There definitely should've been a starch like roast potatoes or garlic bread to eat with the salmon. Dish felt incomplete. 4/5 - Beef Bourguinon. It was a massive portion of stewed beef, carrots and potatoes. Really flavorful and rich. Consistent theme is it could have benefitted from a starch like rice or bread to enjoy with the stew. SERVICE (4/5) Staff were really friendly and helped guide us through the menu. They frequently helped top off our waters as well. VALUE (2/5) Though the ingredients felt fresh, the pricepoints for the dishes didn't feel warranted since most left something to be desired whether it be another flavour, starch, or ingredient. LOCATION (2.5/5) Located not in a very typical plaza area of Markham, it can be a bit difficult to spot as it blends in with the surrounding residential area. Free parking available around the area. AMBIENCE (4/5) Nice and cozy interior furnished with mid-century and modern wood fixtures. Really cute vibes for a brunch on a sunny day. OVERALL (2/5) I really wanted to enjoy this restaurant to the point we visited for a celebration brunch, and sadly our party walked away feeling a bit disappointed. My rating would be a 3.5/5, but there are no 0.5 ratings. This restaurant recently opened and the interior feels new and clean. There are about six or seven tables in the restaurant. We were greeted and sat immediately during a Saturday evening. We asked for hot water as it was a chilly night and the servers steamed some water for us and were attentive to when our glasses were only half full. We did not have to ask for a water refill as they always offered. As I mentioned, it was a chilly February night so whenever the door opened, we felt a cold breeze at our table so some of us chose to keep our jackets on. The menu is cat-themed and very cute. I ordered the Thai Style Fried Chicken and my friends ordered the Confit de Canard, Taiwanese Braised Pork, and Duck Fat Fries with Truffle Sauce. I thought that the Thai Style Fried Chicken was quite good. They had some garlic and chilis laid on top of the fried chicken with some savory, mildly spicy sauce, and some salad on the side. Although it tasted good, I personally think that $24 for fried chicken is somewhat steep. I understand that this is a sit down restaurant, but I've had similar take out Taiwanese style fried chicken for a third of the price. I don't believe that the sauce and additional cabbage elevated the dish to their selling price. This dish was the best of the four items that we got off the menu. The mashed potato from the Confit de Canard was smooth and felt like it had a whipped texture. I was intrigued by the temperature of the mashed potato, or lack thereof, as it was cold. I didn't have much of an opinion of the duck leg as I only tried a small piece. For $40, I felt like it should have something more exciting on the plate. I didn't particularly enjoy or dislike the Taiwanese Braised Pork ($17). The Duck Fat Fries with Truffle Sauce was alright, but once again, the portion size was small. The truffle sauce was somewhat unique, but there really weren't enough fries in the basket. They have a wide variety of offerings on their menu, but it would probably be best if they offered a couple signature items to make their restaurant stand out. I probably wouldn't consider this restaurant to be Thai food. I'm not sure if I'd visit Glad again anytime in the near future. The ambiance is very relaxing because this restaurant was a cafe before, the quiet music where you can actually have a nice conversation. The restaurant is small but can accommodate around 18-20 people. We had the shrimp as the appetizer. It was piping hot with garlic flavour. The Confit de Canard was so tasty and flavourful. The crispy skin aroma goes right up to your nose and you want to eat it right away! The Thai style fried chicken definitely opens up your appetite. The Beef Bourguignon ($35.99) had good flavor, but it didn't come with rice, something you'd usually expect with a dish like that, so we had to order it separately for an extra $3.50, which felt a bit off. The portion also wasn't very large for the price. The Thai Style Fried Chicken ($23.99) was better - crispy, flavorful, and well-seasoned. We also tried the Brazilian lemonade, which was refreshing and balanced - tart, sweet, and creamy. A nice touch. Overall, the food was fine, but the value didn't quite match the pricing. Went here for Christmas Dinner. On open table they had reservations for 8:00pm so we booked it for 8:00. I should've checked their closing hours but personally if you're closing at 9pm don't have reservations available for 8:00 and 8:15. We got there a bit early and was seated right away (there were empty tables). Ordered quite a few dishes for everyone to try. The iced latte my dad said was great and I had the lime soda/mint drink. Ordered the Truffle Fries, Shrimp Tacos, Thai Style Fried Chicken, Lemongrass Pork Jowl, Spaghetti Funghi, and beef bourguignon. Everything kind of just tasted average ... I would say the best fish was the Spaghetti Funghi. Nothing really wowed me. Service was kinda meh... I feel like the staff didn't want to be there. I get it's Christmas Day but if you've decided to open your doors for customers I would expect better service.. anyways by 8:30 they said it was last call. Started offering to put our food in takeout containers and even asked us to settle the bill... I feel like they could've said hey sorry but we are closing could you please settle the bill would've been a better way. I didn't feel like the staff handled closing properly... if anything my family felt like we were being kicked out. Plus food was honestly mediocre at best minus the fact their beverages were surprisingly tasty. Overall I'm not sure if I'd be back but food wasn't bad at all... it just wasn't mind blowing or anything.. prices were ok. We had a table of 5 the bill came up to be $275 which personally I found decent for the amount of food/drinks that were ordered. Came here on a Saturday date night as I heard some buzz about this place on social media! I called in to make a reservation (as it is their soft opening period). It is located in a new plaza at Kennedy and 16th - one that never crosses my mind to be honest but there is parking available. When we got there it wasn't very busy and we were seated quickly. The space is quite small, but cozy - lots of ambient lighting; the seats were spacious and had an intimate feel. My only complaint is the door doesn't close very well so there is occasionally a blast of cold air. Everything in the restaurant is cat-themed, from the menu to the uniforms (they even have merch on display) - we did ask the staff what the backstory of the cat theme was... turns it is simply because the owner of the restaurant has two cats that they love quite dearly. Fair enough reason! We got the following items off the menu: - Brazilian Lemonade: We honestly did not know what Brazilian Lemonade is (but I've heard it's very good from my Brazilian coworker). It's more of a limeade with condensed milk. A very pleasant surprise and kind of reminds me of a Yakult. 10/10 - Shrimp Tacos: This is more of a tostada because it is an open-faced chip. The flavour was very nice and the mango and coleslaw were great additions to some large shrimp. Unfortunately, it was lacking some structural integrity so it was quite difficult to eat with your hands (they gave us gloves in Glad packaging, very cute) but I ended up resorting to using a fork and knife. 7/10 - Boeuf Bourguignon: Huge portion and does not come with rice (you can order it on the side if you like). It is more of a stew with large pieces of potatoes and carrots, and many pieces of beef. The meat was very tender and the flavour was perfect. Despite no rice, it is very filling (I'd argue this is a portion for 2 people)... but I still would've liked to see it served with baguette toast to soak up the remaining sauce at the end. 9/10 - Spaghetti with Bacon and Mushroom in Creamy Sauce: No notes, this was delicious. They provide extra pepper and parmesan topping. 8/10 Overall the service was great and they were very attentive. My water was refilled many times and they were very open to receiving feedback. The prices are a little bit of a premium compared to similar restaurants (when looking at the menu at face-value), however the service, portion-size, and flavour make it all worth it. Glad is a new restaurant that is quite small. Parking is available, and although limited, it is enough since there aren't many shops in this tiny strip plaza. I think the restaurant can comfortably seat around 20 people and I highly recommend that you call in for reservations. I made reservations and we were offered a table at the farthest back, and they had wooden hard seats with a round flat pillow which was a nice touch, even if not essential. Service was wonderful and extremely attentive. However, every time the door opened, a noticeable breeze would come through and last for a while. Since it is winter, the chill was felt, and we had to bundle back up even though we are the farthest table from the door. I can only imagine how tables closer to the door felt. This is really only an issue during winter but since winter takes up many months during the year, and they only opened in February, I hope they think about how to accommodate for this in the future. The menu is charming and dainty. It took slightly over 25 minutes for all the dishes to come out. I had a hard time choosing between two dishes, and I ended up going with the Duck Confit because the Boeuf Bourguignon didn't come with rice. For example, the Beef brisket with potatoes and carrots is about $36, and paying an extra $3.50 for rice felt a bit off especially when similar dishes elsewhere include rice at typically half the cost. Maybe if rice were a standard part of the dish, it would offer better value and a more satisfying meal. The Duck Confit was ~$38, and there were a couple of things that could've made it better and more worthy of this price. It came with cold, whipped mashed potatoes and a really small (imagine grabbing a pinch) mixed greens with balsamic vinaigrette. If the mashed potatoes were served warm and the salad had a bigger portion, I think that would have made the dish more enjoyable. I was really looking forward to the Duck Confit, but unfortunately, the duck was overcooked and dry, and the flavors from all three components didn't really come together the way I expected. I would not order this dish again. The Thai style fried chicken was very juicy and deep-fried with a great crust. They recommend eating it with the sauce on top, but it might be even better if the sauce were available on the side so you could adjust it to your taste or if they use something else besides a flat plate. I would also pass on the Taiwanese Braised Pork with Rice, as it was not flavorful; the pork was not as juicy as I've typically experienced, and the tofu and egg also seemed overdone. For ~$15, the Duck Fat fries with Truffle was disappointing for the portion size. The fries were fried perfectly and the sauce did have a pleasant truffle flavor, but the small basket felt so light for the cost. I live nearby and had high hopes, so I'm definitely up for giving it another try. I'm really hoping my next visit will be even better! read more

However, it was quite a different experience once we were in. It was first sunday of the new year and we thought with lunch crowd it might be busy. It was very empty when we arrived despite booking reservation online and arriving 1 hr after open. The seating was organized and not too tight together. There was nice radio music playing pop and R&B. Smallest table sat 2, largest table can seat 4 to 6. Even though the whole restaurant is empty, they placed us, a group of 4, at a table where table width was smaller than chairs lined up which was odd since outer seaters will have arms outside of table edge. We ordered a few dishes to try and did notice that it does not come combo style (eg no soup, no bread, no salad option) and some don't come with rice either which is a $3.50 add-on on the side. After we ordered, the waitress mentioned that there's a special of the day. It was a bit odd to mention then after we had already ordered and it was more mumbled out then said. Their Taste of Europe dishes were ok. They do table side fresh cracked pepper and parmesan grating. Taste was ok but not spectacular. Their Taste of Asia dishes tasted well seasoned and good size portion. They did run out of Basil Chicken when we ordered so had to opt for Teriyaki chicken which was quite large, moist and tasty. The rice was dry though. Their Taiwanese pork rice was tasty until getting to bottom of dish which felt very heavy and oily. Would be good to have some vegetables not just braised tofu and 3 thin slices of daikon. We also tried their coffees which was also oddly served. We asked for cream and sugar on the side but given we ordered 1 coffee (hot and cold) for each person at the table, they gave 1 small cup of cream and liquid sugar which was very inadequate for everyone to use. When we asked for extra, the waitress seemed really reluctant but eventually gave quite quickly. For the value of the food, drinks and service, I probably would not come again at least not for another few months or year as staff seemed very inexperienced and business feels too new launch. If this was soft launch, it would be understandable. The online menu doesn't match printed menu. Small details are not clear on menus either such as pricing of hot vs cold drinks if it would be same price or different. Second time coming. This time for lunch, first was for dinner. Both times I found the food delicious and cooked perfectly. Noticed their lunch and dinner menus are the same, which is fine - just wished there was more variety on the menu. That said, the smaller menu is probably what allows them to put the care into each dish. Plating is as good as it tastes! Some items, such as the pork jowl, takes longer to prepare. Keep in mind that it is on the pricier side considering other restaurants of similar offerings. However, the employees are all super friendly and being a smaller space allows them to take care of everyone. Despite being smaller, there's large tables for groups or small tables for pairs. Both times I walked in but would recommend a reservation if you're a bigger group. If it were more affordable, I'd give it 5 stars. That said, I would still return to get their pork jowl again. read more
