In support of our local restaurants we picked Orchid Thai which for tonight at least the story has a great ending. We were trying to support our closer haunt, Thai Villa Aurora but sadly they've closed their doors, hopefully just for the duration. Hope to see them back up and running. We ordered the Pad Thai, Red Curry Chicken, pineapple fried rice, sweet basil beef and the essential steamed white rice. The pickup was orchestrated via a pickup window. Not sure if it was there from a previous fast food joint but wow convenient and perfect for today's conditions! The food was delicious, good portion sizes, just enough shrimp for the 4 of us as each got one from a combination of the meals. In better times I'd hope they put at least 4 shrimp in a dish that had it as there would have been a fight at home if we ordered one dish that had shrimp (2) and fought over them. This restaurant is location in an unassuming plaza, and I probably would have passed by never noticing it if my coworker hadn't recommended it to me. Walking inside, you're met with a plethora of Thai style decor. We opted for the spicy rice noodles, pad thai, and emerald chicken curry with rice. The spicy rice noodles had just the right amount of spice without being overpowering, and the emerald chicken curry was light, creamy, and balanced with salty & sweet flavours. The pad Thai ran a bit on the sweet side (instead of tangy tamarind), but it was still delicious! We finally got to try this Thai place after many unsuccessful attempts since we eat late. Apparently the kitchen closes at 830 and we have shown up late many times (thought this was Markham). In the end, we got decent and authentic Thai food with modest portions in Aurora. The pad Thai was great but we found the coconut rice too soggy. This is my first opportunity to try real Thai cuisine. I dined there today with my buddy (his first time as well) and we were both pleasantly surprised. We went there for the lunch special and we were greeted by a very polite lady. Meals were ordered and spring rolls came out within minutes, all I can say is best I've ever eaten. Unfortunately this restaurant gave me a "Thai Express" experience. A little bit about their service during a pandemic - you can order online for pick up and they would call you to confirm your order. We had to switch up our appetizers because they were unavailable. There's a drive thru pickup window if you follow the right side of the building and around. The food was still hot by the time we got home. Notes about our order: - The curries didn't come with rice. Their menu online didn't indicate this nor does it have a section that would provide options for sides with your main. - The pad Thai tasted like sweet ketchup noodles. We wished we inquired about spice levels. - Lemon prawn soup comes with 3 pieces and bunch of mushrooms. Would have preferred some veggies in the soup. - Thai spring rolls - wasn't anything special. I liked this place! I would say for Aurora it's a solid Thai option, it's not really on par with Pai downtown which for me is the best Thai I've had outside of Thailand, but for the suburbs, it's really good! We ordered a variety of items for 4 people, two orders of pad thai, the red curry, basil chicken, shrimp roll appetizer and some white rice. The price came out to around $85, which is moderate and we had a bunch of leftovers. Our favorites were the pad Thai and red curry. The pad Thai was mildly spiced, was chocked full of shrimps and chicken, and weighed about 2lbs. It's a good dish to share. The curry was a smaller portion but the flavour was great. The basil chicken was just ok, it was just a stir fried chicken with a bunch of veggies, I'd probably skip it and the shrimp rolls, while delicious, were a smaller portion for $10 and basically a shrimp wrapped in wonton paper and fried. Overall though it was tasty and satisfied our Thai food cravings. I didn't dine in but ordering the food was a breeze, the person taking my order was super friendly and was able to answer any questions I had. They have a takeout window for pickup which is amazing for covid times so we were really happy about that for convenience and safety's sake. This is not an update; this is a response to the owner's comment on my original review. The claims made in the owner's comment are false and misleading. I have never been associated with any of Orchid Thai's competitors at any point in time (except perhaps as a customer) and have never emailed the business. In fact, I received a message via Yelp from the owner on July 3rd, 2017, offering me a free dinner of my choice to potentially change my mind. He also requested my address to send me a gift card. I would never release my address to anyone online; and most importantly, I refuse to accept a free meal/bribe in exchange for a good review. I did not respond to that message. I intend to protect my rights to post truthful and valid reviews of my particular experience with this and other businesses on Yelp, and I will not be removing my review. I dropped by at 2:30 in the afternoon on a Tuesday and nobody was in there. I got the vegetable curry and my mom got the shrimp and vegetable curry. Each meal came with 2 appetizers (1 vegetable spring roll with REALLY sour sauce and 1 REALLY sour soup). Neither my mom nor I liked appetizers. First time trying this place after seeing some nice reviews. I hesitate in trying many Thai places unless a friend recommends usually but was very impressed. Considering I'm born in that side of Asia as well I'm very happy we found a great Thai restaurant. The drive through window is great during Covid. Food is fresh and flavorful. Will try other dishes to fully confirm if more of their dishes are authentic. The spring rolls were just normal vegetable spring rolls but still tasty. There are many Thai option in Newmarket and Aurora and this is one of my favourites. The family that runs this shop is very attentive and sweet. I always opt for the lunch menu $11.99 and it comes with an entree, a spring roll and a hot and sour soup. I had the pad thai - which I believe is authentic. It is the perfect balance of sweet and sour. You can really taste the authentic-ness from the wok fried pad thai. Hands down they have some of the best spring rolls as well :) I sometimes also get the red curry with chicken and rice which is flavourful as well. This is a popular restaurant in Aurora. The food is delicious, well presented and fresh. Doesn't taste heavy. I had the spicy vegetable with tofu. And my partner had a coconut curry with shrimp. Both dishes were excellent. We started off with vegetarian spring rolls. They were ok, nothing special. The service is efficient and friendly. Decor has a heavy Thai theme. Pricing is creeping up. This restaurant sets a standard for how I rate all Thai restaurants. It is by far one of my favourites. Clean bathrooms. Friendly knowledgable staff. Healthy food. Pleasant establishment, with lots of artistic work done inside. Beautiful dishes and cutlery. Prompt service. I had the basil pork tonight. Normally this would be basil chicken or beef, but they have made this special for me. I also had the coconut soup. It was delicious and spiced well. Lots of vegetables, and attention to freshness. Had this place in my bookmarks for quite a while, and quite glad I had a chance to finally try it. ATMOSPHERE: One might think the opulent decor a bit off the top, but the owners really did a great job of furnishing this place. The vibe came across as authentic, and welcoming, with lots of cultural items and decorations to peruse while waiting for the food. There is a nice little bar area in the back, alongside a seating space to take photographs. Even the hallway to the back washrooms was nicely decorated! FOOD: The food here was really impressive. Ok, it is pretty difficult to mess up stir fry mixed greens, but they still did this well, and with a good portion size. The Crispy Fish was tender, and of course crispy, even with the batter coated in tamarind sauce. The star of the show for us though was the Crab Fried rice. Pretty sure it was not actual crab given the price point, and the massive size of the chunks of meat, but wow was it convincing. The dish as a whole was so flavourful and fulfilling. The Thai Iced Tea also hit the spot. SERVICE: Our young server was helpful and honest with her suggestions, and admitting what she did not know. She attended to whatever we needed, and the food came very quickly. They have a take-out window on the side of the restaurant too - not sure if I have ever seen something like that in a sit-down restaurant. VERDICT: Will definitely be back! read more

I've been eating at Orchid Thai here and there for the last 15 years or so. Not much has changed in those 15 years, and in my opinion that's a good thing. For many of my past visits I've had one of their lunch specials, or been with a group for dinner that has shared a number of dishes. I'd say this is probably the best way to eat Thai food; where you can get a little bit of a number of dishes. The last time I visited though, I was in a rice mood, and so I just ordered the chicken fried rice all to myself. The good: the staff is friendly, accommodating (they will gladly modify a dish to suit if you have dietary restrictions), and the food is tasty. I love their spring rolls, the cashew chicken is delicious, as are dishes like basil beef, fish curry, pad Thai, and the fried rice. The not so good: prices really seem to be on the rise here, and the size of some of the dishes seems to be getting smaller. That being said, I still think this is a good place to eat, and I'll certainly be back many more times. read more

I had to provide lunch for some clients in the area, so I figured, why not give it a try. They asked me how many people that we wanted to feed, so I told them and they made recommendations from the menu. When the food arrived for the event, the portions were gigantic. I guess they wanted the exposure, because it fed the entire group, plus the people in the shop. From a catering point of view, they were spot on. My wife is allergic to shellfish and waiter was very thorough in verifying what foods may contain any shellfish in the sauce etc. My son and daughter each had a shrimp dish (green curry and sweet & sour) -both were very tasty. My wife and I shared two chicken dishes. The Green Curry chicken was excellent. The cashew chicken was decent but not anywhere as good as the green curry chicken. Ambiance was nice. Adorned with lots of decor/photos from Thailand inside, like a 'museum's as the shop owner described it. Lunch menu meant for weekdays was still offered on the weekend, many choices for $10.95 and comes with soup and spring rolls. Portion sizes are good and food tastes good. We got the green curry chicken, tamirand curry beef, pad thai, and chicken skewers app. My fav was the green curry chicken!
