Stopped here thanks to a blue information sign on I-95 that had it listed for "Food" at Exit 110. A quick look at my Yelp app showed this place had some promise. When I pulled up and saw it appears they are adding on to the building, I figured they must be doing something right. Well, it wasn't the most fantastic pasta (shrimp fra diavolo) I've ever had, but it was quite good and definitely a thousand percent better than stopping at some chain restaurant. Sadly, second trip was not as good as the first. I asked about the seafood ravioli and was told it was never on the menu. The menu did not appear to have been changed. I said fine, do not worry about it. Then the waitress asked about fried ravioli, they were the same. Um, no, seafood ravioli and friend ravioli are so not the same. I said no, no appetizers, do not want it. I asked her several times not to put it on the order, take it off. We got it... :P I ordered stuffed shells and they were bad. The sauce was canned - it had a very tinny taste to it. The shells were frozen and bland. They were just like the ones I get from the local supermarket. The cheese on top was slices mozzarella and it was barely melted though the dish was hot. Hate to say, tasted very much like it had been rewarmed in the microwave and then a slice of cheese tossed on top. This was not home cooking. Heck even with sauce from a jar you can jazz it up. But this was just metallic tasting, bland, worse than the stuffed shells at the elementary school's cafeteria (which I have eaten many times). And I only pay $3.60 for the school lunch! The pizza was undercooked. It also came out well after my dinner. Three people did not get their food at the same time. This was unacceptable. And it was not just a few minutes late. The waitress seemed distracted and it was NOT busy at all. She was inattentive, I do not think she listened to orders. She was unable to answer questions and had no idea about the menu. She was not new either, I remember seeing her first visit. She did not ask about drink refills until eye contact was made. She seemed to be off talking to people more than paying attention to her tables. Next time we are headed home from that area, we will be trying Timbers across the parking lot. read more

Giuseppe's, more like giusuckey's. Service was good, but the food was sub-par. It was also cold. I got the Italian sub and from what I read off the menu it seemed like it would be okay, maybe a little bland. I decided to change it to possibly make it taste better, so I did. Even though I made those changes to make it better, it still was pretty horrible. If you are going to eat there I would say eat the pizza (I didn't have it but you can't really go wrong with pizza). Though it's one of the only dining options in Ladysmith, that's not why we keep going back! The food is great and reasonably priced. The service is always fairly quick and has that warm "local feel" to it. The food deserves a paragraph of its own. Their calzones are HUGE and delicious, the chicken parm. is fabulous, but my favorite will always be the shrimp alfredo pasta - it's amazing! Also the spicy toasted ravioli is an awesome appetizer. This is decent Italian food, but I am extremely biased because I'm from NY and nothing compares to NY pizza. But considering this is the closest place for pizza near us, I'm glad that it is pretty good. I especially like the Giuseppe's Special pizza and the garlic knots. The stromboli was terrible - it was soupy and we couldn't even eat it, but the calzones are pretty good. I'm not as happy with the entrees - they are okay, but nothing to write home about. The atmosphere in the restaurant is nice and I'm thankful that they voluntarily went smoke free. Overall, I'd recommend it for pizza and as a decent family restaurant. read more

Great service here. Everyone is so friendly and I really enjoy the dining in experience. The portions are nice size. Crab stuffed flounder is delicious. 4 stars because I have had some dishes that are under seasoned and were very plain. Seems a little pricey for a bowel of plain spaghetti. read more

Got eggplant parm- it was horrendous. Was definitely homemade but not sure when...the server took it back and I ordered Alfredo. Big improvement! I am very Alfredo picky and I loved it! Atmosphere is great! Prices were good. We were in a large group so I can't say much on the service other than the server was nice but a tad forgetful. Stopped off on our way back from Southern Shores. Food was a little better than average. Antipasto salad little more than iceberg lettuce and cold cuts, but the baked canaloni was fine. Garlic knots were well prepared, not to much butter and oil. The offerings for the kids were pretty standard, with very good fries and pizza slices that would fill an adult. Short version: Decent food, a lot of options, amazing desserts, skip the espresso. Also, one of the few places you'll find clam spaghetti in Virginia. Long version: The food here is akin to above-average home cooking. It's not Olive Garden, but it's tasty and satisfying. There are more options here than I've ever seen at an Italian place. However, if they cut down their options by just a quarter and improved what was left, it would be a lot better. The desserts are downright amazing. The gelato is delicious and refreshing, and the tiramisu-- made in-house-- is fluffy, creamy, and not at all soggy. Don't skip dessert! Their tomato sauce is good, but their white wine sauce needs some work. It's watery and lacks flavor. Their clams are also canned-- disappointing when their vegetables are fresh-- but my boyfriend still enjoyed his clam spaghetti. Their meat is well-seasoned, too. The espresso, unfortunately, borders on undrinkable. What really got me was that the people working there (the owner included, from what we were told) thought they were serving an authentic Italian experience. It may have come from Italian beans, but what we were given had the consistency of instant espresso: wincingly bitter, watery, and lacking that rich coffee flavor, the polar opposite of what espresso is supposed to be. Four stars for the food!! The pizza there is good and I would recommend it for a true New Yorker. This place is cramped!!!! I felt there was little elbow space in the booth and there is limited walking space. Perhaps they were having a busy evening but this place always seems to be packed and for good reason. We went on a Saturday evening, the restaurant was full, but service swift and the food was abundant and delicious! I spoke with owner, Nino Basile, the marinara recipe is his grandmother's and you can taste the love. Pizza 2 stars. Alfredo 4 stars. Maybe if I ate this pizza all my life, and then I went to Brooklyn and had good pizza, I'd think the NY pizza was bad. As it stands, I've had good pizza, and this ain't it. The cheese was ok, the sauce was not very good, and the crust was poor. Alfredo is one of those things most places do badly. I asked and the girl at the counter assured me they have a good Alfredo sauce, so I tried the tortellini Alfredo. She was correct. The sauce was just about delightful. ...not as good as my Mother's, but still quite good. The tortellini were delicate and delicious, almost like homemade. Skip the pizza and have something else. Found this place while heading back home from a road trip. We just wanted to get a slice and a drink, but ended up leaving with an order of fried pickles and a small vegetable pizza. Friendly staff, totally incompetent cooks. My kids could make better eggplant Parmesan, blindfolded, even though they've never done it before. Pizza dough is not real pizza dough so cheese will not stay on. Italian dressing was 80% vinegar, 20% oil. When we saw the hair in the plate, we asked for the check and took off. I love this place. I've always had great service. I've tried many items on their menus and have yet to be disappointed. My favorites has to their steak and cheese sub, wings, and the fried mushrooms. Their wings are so delicious and has ruined me for wings from anyone else. The owner is super nice. If you have a problem, please talk to him, he'll definitely help anyway he can. Wow! Hubby and I stopped here last weekend for a quick lunch on the way to Williamsburg. We were seated quickly although the place was packed. Hubby had steak and cheese sandwich with fries and I had lasagna. Both meals were delicious and portions were generous. The fries tasted like they had just been cut and fried, very fresh. And the steak sandwich was full of lean beef, not dripping with grease like the steak sandwiches at many other restaurants. Garlic knots came with the lasagna and were also delicious (and totally worth breaking my low carb diet for!). Prices were extremely reasonable, especially considering the serving sizes. One of our favorite local take out places! We've tried many of the pasta dishes (chicken parm, eggplant parm, seafood ravioli) and all have been exceptional! We also often order the Stromboli and pizza which we both great. The only thing that could be improved is the dine-in experience and the garlic knots. Both are kind of meh. Giuseppe's used to be our go to because it was close to home and the food was decent for the price, but for some reason it has gone downhill. Today I ordered chicken piccata and I had to tell the staff to put the wine sauce on my noodles because if you don't, they'll give you the chicken in wine sauce and red sauce on your noodles (I realized they did this when I ordered chicken marsala in the past). This was my first time ordering the piccata from them and the sauce was super thin, the chicken looks like shriveled up nuggets, and they only give you 4 little pieces of chicken at that. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant if you're looking for good Italian food because you'll be disappointed for sure. read more

Stopped here for lunch when in the area for work. It definitely did not disappoint. I asked the server, Jose (who was great by the way), for his recommendation as to the best traditional Italian item on the lunch special menu. He suggested the lasagna. I found it delightful and very old world in flavor. It reminded me of all my favorite Italian restaurants in St. Louis, New York and Philadelphia. The price was more than right at $7.50. The only negative was the garlic rolls. They aren't very flavorful (I like them SWIMMING in garlic so it might be a personal thing) but them ago, I didn't come for the rolls. Overall very positive.
