Service was great. Very friendly. At the recommendation of the server, I ordered the Chile Verde pork, instead of the carnitas, which was my first choice. The Chile Verde was excellent, tender, and perfectly spiced with just a little bit of heat. The portion was huge and I needed help from our dinner companion to finish it. My wife split an order of beef fajitas with our companion and the single order was large enough to do that. The chips were kind of terrible, but I saw a review that said their queso was good, so I ordered that and it helped immensely. The menu was large so there was lots of choose from. I couldn't decide, so I just went with nachos as a safe bet. They nachos were not anything special. Not super flavorful or anything like that. But maybe I should have ordered something different. Great margaritas but really disappointing food. I ordered a small bowl of tortilla soup. What I got was a bowl of extremely hot water with some tiny bits of chopped tomatoes, about 3 slivers of tortilla and cilantro with about three tiny bits of avocado. Well, I think I've finally found a great Mexican food spot- which checks all the boxes. Good food. Friendly service. Cleanliness . I don't know why this was my first time, but it won't be my last. I've mentioned in other reviews that it's been difficult to find a good, solid Mexican/Tex-Mex restaurant, which seems very strange up here. We aren't THAT far from the Dallas area. However, Girasoles, even though the location seems a bit questionable in its cleanliness, really due to its age, is consistently good. I've been 3 times and have enjoyed the basics. Good chips, salsa, queso, enchiladas, etc. The particular strong aspect of Girasoles is the good service. The folks who work there are just nice and attentive. Unless better options for Mexican/Tex-Mex come about (which I don't anticipate), Girasoles will be in my regular rotation. read more

Love Love love This place! My wife and I moved here about a year ago and have had ample opportunity to sample the diverse local cuisine available in the Denison area. We have concluded without a shadow of doubt that this place offers the BEST FAJITAS in town; bar none! Don't even get Me started on the white Queso; it's ridiculously good. The only complaint I had was it was so hot in the restaurant. It is summertime in Texas, the last thing I want to do is go into a restaurant and sweat. First time here to this hidden gem. A four star rating from me is a good rating as my wife says I'm a bit of a foodie. It looks like a restaurant from the 50's outside and was clean but nothing fancy inside. I had the Mary Tierra which is carne asada and shrimp. I got the shrimp prepared crema diabla style and the sauce was amazing: mildly spicy blended well with the crema. The beef was a little chewy but with good flavor. Salsa was pretty good with a definite kick! My wife got chicken fajitas and it was a lot of food, also well flavored and served steaming hot. She liked her margarita but nothing spectacular. If the management is reading this, you have to know that you were recommended by a waitress at Fulbelli's in Sherman. That recommendation was spot on! My wife and I decided to try it first and kicked it off with a Margarita......POW!! Now that's a Margarita!!!!! The service was exceptional and the food was fantabulous. We kept harping about how good the food and drinks were so our friends asked us to go there with us. Same experience.....started it off with a Margarita (POW!!!!) and then I ordered some concoction with hot sauce in a bowl and its was laced with beef and chicken fajita meat with a skewer of shrimp across the bowl. I forget what it was called but YES....order it if you go. I highly recommend this place to anyone. Great service and great food. read more

What a great place for $1 tacos and $2 margaritas. While all the tacos are delicious, my wife and I strongly disagree on the very best. This is where we take family and friends when they come to visit! The food is amazing! When my husband took his parents there, they were informed that the salsa was fresh because "Grandma had just made it this morning." Doesn't get much more home-made than that! It's great food, and yes the margarita flavors are awesome! Be careful, though, one maybe two will do the trick! There are only a few desert options, but they are really good. Came here for lunch one day with a big group of people. I split the beef fajita plate with a friend and it came with a lot of food! The tortilla soup was warm and hardy - chunks of avocado, tomato, tortilla strips all swimming in a nice warm and spicy broth. The flour tortillas came nice and hot and the beef was well seasoned. We asked for more tortillas to share between the two of us and they kindly obliged. Their guacamole looked like it had been sitting out for a little while, but it tasted fresh.
