My wife and I were in Durant on Sunday April 26th and decided to have lunch at Villegas and that was a great decision. The food is amazing! My wife tried the cheese and chicken enchiladas and I had the sour cream chicken enchiladas and they were great. The sour cream sauce was so good! The place is very popular yet they are able to handle the demand and turn the tables fairly quickly. Also, It is a BYOB type of place so if want a cerveza you will need to bring it yourself. We were traveling to visit my sister in Dallas. My lady found Villegas on the internet and decided to make a small detour for dinner. If you're looking for an upscale restaurant with amazing décor... this is not the place for you. If you're looking for a restaurant with good food, great service, and large portions... look no further. Based on reviews we decided to get an order of Fajita's and split them. This was a good decision. We ended up getting the single chicken Aloha Fajitas. The portion size is huge. Even splitting an order, we had left overs. We ended up taking them with to my sisters and eating the rest as left overs with her the next day. We verified we did not get a double. The Fajitas were deliciously amazing. The vegetables were firm, but still soft. The chicken was cooked perfect. It was juicy with a nice char to it. The flavor combination combining the sweetness of the pineapple with the spice of the jalapenos and saltiness of the bacon mixed perfectly with the onions, green peppers and chicken. If, like me, you are not a huge fan of pineapple, don't worry, the flavor is not overpowering, it adds a sweetness with just a hint. It's not overpowering, and it's easy to avoid the chunks of pineapple if you don't want to eat it on it's own. Our only issue was the bathrooms, they were dirty and didn't appear to be well maintained. The partitioned off area they were in was being used for storage making it hard to maneuver. Overall, we had a great experience as Villegas. Our service was fantastic, and the meal was memorable. Just remember that when ordering, keep the portion size in mind. The food is very tasty! However, they could use a little less salt in preparation of the chili con carne, & refried beans. We almost always order the cheese enchiladas with beans and rice however tonight, I added a chicken enchilada with sour cream sauce. All was very good. My husband ordered the Juan's Fajitas, steak, bacon & shrimp. All was very delicious. The server was adequate. He checked on us and he was pleasant. The atmosphere was authentic Mexican complete with Latino music. The seating reminds me of a little mexican restaurant in Mexico with the proper amount of happy people eating and enjoying each other's company. It was good, don't get me wrong, but it was extremely busy and the layout of the place is rough when it's busy. Oh my God if you find yourself in Durant, do not skip a beat and go straight to this Mexican restaurant. The portions are huge and the salsa is authentic as much as the staff. Do you know that a single portion of fajitas fed three people. Only negative thing to say is that they do not serve beer but they have a sister restaurant called jalapeños that does. Amazing food. That deserves 5 stars all around. The service was good, food was ready very fast, and everything was tasty. The tortilla chips however were not my favorite as they aren't made in house and were just so-so. The reason for the 3-star rating is for their runoff coming from their kitchen. They really need to clean the sludge coming out of their kitchen that is overflowing into the parking area...it is really gross! My friend and I were really careful and still got sludge all over our shoes. It took a long time to get the grease and lard-ish sludge out of all the nooks and crannies after we got into the car. They need to take care of this problem because it makes me not want to go back there just thinking about how filthy everything was leaving there. read more
