Ordered delivery through eat24, a "fresh family platter" and a small margherita pizza with sausage added. Got a call from eat24 that the delivery driver's car had a break down and that they would start a fresh order to be delivered by the owner if I was ok with waiting. No big deal, problems happen and they weren't trying to bring me cold food.
The owner arrived, very apologetic, with a larger pizza, some sodas and extra stuff in the appetizer platter as an apology for the delay. I was grateful for all this because the customer service is the only reason they got more than 1 star.
Appetizer platter:
Chicken strips- these tasted like a small step up from something out of a Tyson's bag of frozen chicken bits.
Chicken wings- breaded, extra fatty. Were at least a decent size, but lacked flavor.
"Breaded onions"- I assumed from the pictures these were supposed to be onion rings or something similar. I never got to find out because they never made it into my order.
Mozzarella sticks and garlic bread sticks- Fine by themselves, but served sans the marinara the would have given them a little more to work with.
Margherita pizza w/ sausage:
My pizza was missing dough. This was impressive; I had a normal outer crust, but a good third of the pizza was missing dough in the middle, the cheese just stuck to the cardboard. Also missing was any sign of basil. The cheese was fine, a little rubbery, not noticeably salty or bland, just sort of there. The crust itself was fine, a little chew to it though again nothing memorable.
The sausage... oh my. This is billed by Giovanni's as "fresh Italian sausage" on their menu. This was easily the strangest sausage I've ever eaten. This was loose sausage, not cased and sliced or the evil nuggets you see on other pizzas which is an encouraging sign of being house made. However, what it tasted like was condensed chili meat. It tastes heavy on the chili powder, heavy on what I would assume was cayenne with none of the fennel or garlic flavors you expect in an italian sausage.
I wanted to like this place, but I can't see myself giving them another go. read more
