Giorgianas is the best. I live around the corner and stop here oh.... if not every day, then every other day. They have everything you could possibly need from a convenience store plus alcohol and fresh food. George is SO NICE. I don't know his wife (Ana) as well because I usually go in after work and she runs the morning shift. One night, my roommate and I had a party and we told everyone to buy whatever they needed there before coming over. George was so happy that he gave us a free bottle of champagne! I have been going to Giorgiana's since it opened and I too was very excited that we had a convenience store right up the street. But I was thoroughly disappointed this evening when the owner's husband who is behind the counter taking money most nights decided to give me such grief that I walked out and would never return. I went in to ask for 6 flour tortillas. The girls who make the sandwiches and work the grill said they didn't have them but could sell me some behind the counter. During this time, the owner was outside. When he saw that she had given me the tortillas he scolded her for selling them to me and tried to charge me $6.00 for 6 tortillas to which he exclaimed was a "reasonable" price. I said that I didn't think that was reasonable so he tried to charge me for the other items I had and I was just so shocked that I didn't want to buy anything. He told me that he would talk to his wife about the price and if $6 wasn't reasonable I could come back tomorrow for a refund. Talk about customer service and inconveniencing the customer. I was just eating a nice big Greek salad from here. It came with a stuffed grape leaf and everything. It also came with... A NASTY ASS BUG. Stuck to the underside of a piece of romaine. It's like, a centimeter long, with wings and legs and bugness. It doesn't seem Greek in origin, SO WHY IS IT IN MY SALAD? Not eating here again. Surprisingly plentiful supply of wine downstairs, with an assortment of freshly made deli foods & general convenience store goods on the street level part. Intimate, cozy, neighborhoody - they even have a cat roaming the store! Prime location right across from the Cyclorama/Mills Gallery. If i lived in the area, I'm sure I'd be a regular. read more

I miss living close to this place. The staff is friendly and they have a great variety of items in the deli case. They also have freshly prepared hot food items for those days when you really just do not want to cook dinner for yourself. The variety is also great here. You can get everything from the basics to more specialty items. They also keep everything so clean, which is not the most common trait in a lot of the smaller stores. Got lunch here the day after the Boxing Day Blizzard of 2010 (at least that's what I'm calling it). I ordered the lamb gyro sandwich and the chicken lemon soup. Total came to $12 and change. A skosh pricier than one would expect from a deli, but the food was worth it. They take their gyro seriously here. The lamb in the gyro were real slices of rosemary roasted lamb (as opposed to the seasoned industrial lamb one usually gets in a gyro). The vegetables in the gyro were fresh and crisp, and even the pita bread was grilled. The soup was full of meaty pieces of dark meat chicken and rice, and had a nice lemony zing. Service was speedy. Oh, they sell beer and wine downstairs and have a nice assortment of grocery items. read more

Truly the most delicious chicken pita I've ever had, and to top it off, they sell champagne sorbet. Yes, sorbet MADE OF CHAMPAGNE. Stopped in tonight to pick up a quick salad for take out. 10 quick minutes later i left with a Greek salad and it was amazing. Chock full of tomatoes, cucumbers, and lots of other fresh vegetables. A big generous portion of chicken too. The staff was super x10 courteous and the George (Owner i think) was expecially gratious. He shook my hand twice :). I attend school (BFIT) on the corner of Tremont & Berkeley. I religiously go to Giorgiana's. Ana, the owner, is always in the store. Her staff is amazing, nice, polite & the food is terrific. Everything is always fresh. I recomend the breakfast sandwiches and subs if you're on a budget. The portions are satisfying & you will not be disappointed. The mediterranean food -- grape leaves, tzaziki, mousaka, etc.-- authentic because it's made right there on from scratch! This place is a neighborhood treasure; take with a grain of salt all of the various reviews from out of towners walking in expecting a five star sit-down dining experience. They have fantastic sandwiches and hot ready-to-go meals and salads at a reasonable price. AWFUL!! Do not be swayed by the trendy look of this place! I have personally seen bread deliveries stacked up on the tenants stair case which adjoins the store. The building, this shop is located in, is infested with mice. The owners are rude and generally despise all locals in the area. The "wine cellar" is not handicap accessible. I would never go to this store again, nor would I suggest anyone live in the apartments located above. read more

There's a lot of great stuff at Giorgiana's, and I can accept the fact that most of it is overpriced. That's par for the course with this type of convenient-but-above-average urban market. What really turns me off is that so many items are not marked with prices, and the proprieters NEVER give you an itemized receipt unless you ask for one. So, if you charge your items, they give you a charge slip. If you pay cash, they give you nothing. Either way, you can't see how much you paid for your groceries unless you specifically request an itemized receipt, and they typically act offended when you do. Call me crazy, but if I'm going to pay double the price that Shaw's would charge me for a particular item, I at least want to know that I'm doing it! read more

The couple that own the place are really nice. They have a good, albeit, slightly expensive selection of beer/wine and liquor. Same goes for non perishables. It's great to have this place around. My only concerns are with the freshness of the food. Have had some bad experiences with some of the fresh food they serve. I know it is hard to throw away food as a business owner but there were a few times when i got some sketchy food. This includes the produce, but at least that is visible. I end up now just avoiding that type of food here. Otherwise market is A-OK read more

I have lived in the south end for many years, however, walked into Giorgiana's for the first time (and last time!). At my first glance, I thought "wow, wine downstairs, I"ll definitely come here again". Well, until the owner put a REAL bad taste in my mouth! Bad customer relations, spoiled my experience at this place. I bought a large water and asked him for couple of plastic cups so the kids could share the big bottle. The owner said that he has to charge me. I thought he was kidding at first. He tacks on .75 cents for couple of plastic cups and unprompted begins complaining to me about how he has to pay for supplies, it is not free, supplies cost him so much money and on and on he went. Dude if you are going to charge me for some plastic cups, just shut up and do it. Your customers don't need to feel all the negative energy you have to offer. He then asked me if I want a plastic bag. I told him "no thank you, I do not want to pay for a plastic bag". I will go out of my way to avoid this place, bad energy flowing around this place and real bad customer relations. read more
