As is true with most sushi restaurants, only a portion of my family was excited to eat at Ginza, as my son just isn't a sushi fan. But after careful consideration and time studying the menu, I was able to convince him that there would be plenty of items for him as well, and so we ventured out. He reluctantly agreed afterwards that it was a good choice. Ginza is a BIG restaurant - featuring both menu items or the all you can eat option, which of course we chose. I'm a picky sushi eater, and was worried that some rolls wouldn't cater to my special level of 'picky eater' but they were happy to modify upon request. In addition to the variety of sushi rolls, sashimi, hand rolls, etc. they also had numerous non-sushi items including soups, teriyaki combos, fried rice dishes, Chinese dishes, and more. Plenty of options, and luckily the portion sizes were small enough to allow room to try many things but not so small that they felt like a Tapas restaurant. Quality was terrific for an AYCE and the service was surprisingly quick. Sometimes the delays in ordering can be a problem, but at Ginza they were prompt to return for the next choices and food arrived quickly. Great spot! We were seated immediately and the person who took care of our table was so attentive throughout our meal. You can do AYCE for about $28 for an adult and $19 for a kid, and you can choose from AYCE appetizers, entrees (these are both mostly Chinese style), hibachi, sushi, sashimi, kid-friendly food for picky kids, teriyaki meats, and desserts. The avocado in the sushi was not fresh and sushi as well as sashimi was very fishy, also not fresh at all. The chicken in the hibachi was not cooked in the middle. We have recommended and gone to Ginza for years. Today they lost our business. Going to DARUMA across the street from now on. We called in to place 4 orders of sushi rolls. I asked for a side of spicy mayo, she said it was included. So then I said "ok so only 1 is included for 4 orders of sushi?" She said "yeah" I was like okay, well then we will just do 1 order. We used to come here all the time, but as of the past few months, the place has really really gone downhill. Even the place used to be packed, but now it's quite sparse. Here's the problem: their stingy-ness They pack the sushi with excessive portions of rice and tiny pieces of fish. And the fish is no longer fresh. We had to strip off extra amounts of rice from the sushi rolls because we felt like we were only eating rice. The most disappointing thing was the service of this one particular waiter. In our initial order, he commented rudely about us having too many rolls. In our opinion, it was our normal order amount, but we crossed one roll out and submitted the order. When we received our order, there was hardly any actual fish in the rolls. It was so obvious with the large amounts of rice and the micro portions of fish that I had to point it out to the waiter. With all the rice and hardly any fish, we were still hungry after the meal, so we ordered an additional Alaskan roll. He brought out another roll, again with tiny amounts of salmon. When we asked for yet another roll (still hungry), he brought another one out, but with old fish that made our stomachs hurt after. We ended up having to leave still feeling hungry and also a bit sick to the stomach. To be fair, up until a few months ago, this place used to have fresh and decent tasting portions, generous portions, good service (especially the woman with brown hair), and was packed every day or lunch. I VERY seldom give one star reviews, but this was one of the worst places I've ever eaten at IN MY LIFE!!! If you're thinking about eating here, just don't. Trust me, you'll thank me later! Brief Summary: Ginza is a Japanese restaurant that's most well known for their all you can eat sushi deal. Like anywhere, you either get quality, quantity, or something in between. At Ginza, you get quantity, and sadly, nothing more. Would I Recommend This Restaurant? No The Food: I've dined at Ginza twice now. Once to see if it was any good, and a second time with some friends that insisted on eating here. The first time I had the all you can eat sushi, and it was borderline inedible. The fish was not fresh at all, and the "Eel sauce" was nothing like any other eel sauce I've ever had, and not in a good way. The sushi was 70% rice, 20% vegetables, and 10% whatever meat is supposed to be in it. To add insult to injury, you get charged a fee, by the piece, if you leave any rice behind. I understand not wanting to waste food, but when you're being served a sushi roll that's made almost entirely out of rice, you really can't blame people for digging out the meat and leaving the rest behind. I tried a variety of rolls and I didn't find a single one that I liked. It just isn't quality sushi. There are other things included with the all you can eat sushi deal, but sadly, most everything else was disappointing as well. The highlight of the meal, was the fried dumplings I had. They were decent, but paying $28 for all you can eat dumpling certainly isn't worth it. My second visit I opted for the salmon bento box lunch special having known how bad the sushi quality is following my first visit. The piece of salmon I was served was absolutely appalling! That's a word I've never used in a review before. It was about the thickness of an Apple TV remote, and no, I'm not exaggerating. It was so dry that I couldn't even cut it with a knife. At restaurants, food quality is always extremely important. Sadly though, Ginza misses the quality mark by a long shot. Service and Staff: Staffing is something I always grade with a grain of salt. Given these difficult times to find workers, there isn't always much restaurants can do to be properly staffed. With that said, Ginza still disappoints with their service. I had to ask the waitress to speak up a few times due to not being able to hear her, and as a result, she was very clearly irritated the entire time. It was very apparent that she did not want to be there. After being served my horrifying piece of salmon, I had to go to the back area to find her to send it back because she never came back to check on us. No apology was given for the mess up in the order either, which is just common courtesy. When dining, service is always a key part of the experience. While sometimes there are excusable blunders in service, I found the poor service here to be inexcusable. Location and Interior: This restaurant is located in a VERY busy plaza. If you go at a busy time, you will have to park all the way in the back. Not a bad thing if you're doing the all you can eat though as it gives you a chance to burn some of it off. The restaurant is pretty spacious, so you're not on top of other people. The interior looks and feels cheap, and it was quite loud in there as well. So loud that I had issues hearing my friends at the end of my table. While Ginza doesn't have the best location or interior, it's certainly not the worst either. Sadly, it's the best thing this restaurant has going for it. Final Thoughts: I want to preface my final thoughts by saying, I'm always willing to give a restaurant another shot at redemption. A bad review should be a learning experience, not a death sentence. With that said, these are my final thoughts. While an all you can eat sushi place can be enticing, I urge you to strongly consider if you'd rather leave with a belly ache from over eating, or with a satisfied feeling from having a quality meal. If you want the latter of the two, Ginza is not for you. If you're looking for all you can eat rice and dumplings though, Ginza should do fine :p P.S. My apologies for not getting a picture of the piece of salmon. I think I was just in such shock with what was in front of me, that I didn't even think to snap a picture! 4 stars for amazing sushi, great service and wide variety! We actually came here after finding our usual all you can eat sushi place was closed because of covid. I wasn't looking forward to eating here because both my sister and I both have very sensitive stomachs. Upon arriving we were told there would be a 30 minute wait. We started to think of other places to go but eventually decided to stay. The wait ended up being longer than we anticipated but it was all worth it! We were a group of 6 and 5 of us had the all you can eat sushi and one just ordered a hibachi plate. The sushi was so good. It tasted very fresh and we ordered and ate way more than we should have. Our waiter was amazing and tried her best considering the place was packed! Everything was fantastic and afterwards nobody complained from stomach pain. The only problem with this place was the hibachi. My husband got chicken and beef hibachi with a side of fried rice. The rice was stale and old and had no flavor, no vegetables and no eggs. The chicken was inedible and went untouched. The only reason I wouldn't come here again is because my husband wouldn't be able to eat here. Update after taking to the restaurant they didn't care and said they pass their health inspections it looks like handling and preparing meat was an issue at their last inspection.
