Besides the basic sashimi and rolls (which were also well-executed) my group got pumpkin fried rice and tea-smoked pork belly to share. The pumpkin fried rice made everyone happy! was everyone's favorite! (and the sashimi..) It came out all adorably packed into a kabocha squash with a little kabocha cap. The fried rice is simple - glutinous rice (aka sticky rice) with green onions, pumpkin cubes, and porky bits (like asian bacon bits). The whole dish was quite filling because after eating up the rice, you can also eat the squash! But there ARE a few parties of 2 came and seated with reservation???? People who know the owner and the staff got seated over people 1st available on the waiting list and with reservation??? My girl tells me that we're going out to a Japanese restaurant on Saturday for my birthday dinner. Well, we don't visit downtown Bellevue very much and so it took us a couple extra turns, but we found GINZA!! As we pull into the parking lot, I noticed a few familiar cars and I'm wondering why my friends are here, it turned out to be my surprise birthday party dinner! HAHA! Great!! Friends + new restaurant, it was surely gonna be a good time. We get in and I didn't see anyone I knew, okay.. that's puzzling. It turns out they have a sectioned off room for small parties! DOPE!! But you gotta remove your shoes to hop in here, they even have a small shelf to put your shoes. You step in and can pull the sliding door for privacy, but it can get a bit hot in there. LOL It was nice that they could accommodate our party of 20 people and put us all on desperate bills. It worked out well. The had added a 15% tip for gratuity, but no one seemed to claim about it. I had a lot of food, but I had to share... but it's okay, I was still pretty full afterwards. We ordered the deep fried oysters, burning bomb roll, ginza roll, a vegetarian roll and a tuna roll along with the pumpkin fried rice. What stood out? I came here for dinner on Saturday night around 7 PM and the place was half empty. The restaurant has a small parking lot in the back. Upon entering, we were readily seated. The menu items include typical choices of sushi, sashimi, and various noodles and pan fried dishes. The items range from $9 to $18, and are of mediocre quality. For example, the beef tongue we ordered consisted of four small slices that cost $9 and tasted more like rubber than meat. Since it's still winter, every time the door opens, a huge cold draft propagates throughout the restaurant. The main entrees took about 30 minutes to come out. Finally, I noticed that the table next to us left one plate of sushi untouched for whatever reason as they paid the bill and left. I overheard the manager quietly whisper to the waiter to bring it to the back, either to feed it to the staff or to serve it again later to other customers. I stopped for lunch at Ginza, my first visit of many! At this time the restaurant is under construction, but I could hardly notice it, except for some plastic barrier. I had the special of the day, which was a very hard choice, considering all the great things on the menu. This place is huge! It's a sushi/Japanese BBQ hybrid establishment, and the back is presumably for parties that aren't BBQing, while the tables at the front of the restaurant have grills. My boyfriend and I were only there for sushi, but they took us to the front of the house without asking. Not too big of a deal, but the grill was kind of getting in the way of our plates, especially since we were sharing everything. The sushi was good, some of the fish could be fresher, but overall it was quite good. We got the kanihama roll, which had imitation crab, hamachi, and avocado ($7.25) and two pieces of toro nigiri ($13). The toro was okay, but it was cheaper than toro we normally get so expectations weren't that high. We also ordered the sushi deluxe ($26) that came with 4 pieces of some mystery charred fish, not the best tasting but it was interesting, eight pieces of tuna (two kinds), four pieces of salmon, two pieces of hamachi, two pieces of albacore, and two pieces of octopus. I would have preferred some other type of fish other than the charred/smoked fish, but I guess the sushi deluxe gives the chef some flexibility, omakase-style, even though we were told by the waiter the omakase had less but cost more. Our server spoke quickly and very softly, so it was hard to understand him, and he was not attentive at all. He only took our order and never came back to check up on us. It was an awkward exchange. In fact, the service here was very unorganized. As I mentioned before, it would have been nice to sit at a regular table, rather than a table with a grill in the middle, and we had our order taken twice. After our initial order, another waitress came to ask what we wanted and we told her that we got the omakase but wanted to add a roll, and she made a completely new ticket until our original waiter finally came over after watching our exchange. Broiled pork belly skewer: DELICIOUS. Uni nigiri: AMAZING. Good price at $6.50. Need to try the Toro next time, also seems like a good price. Haven't been back for awhile so decided to invite another family to go for dinner. We ordered chicken kaarage, friend oysters, halibut collar, black cod, tempura shrimps, Yaki undo with beef and veggies, Nigiris and some sushi rolls. We weren't very please with much of our order made from the kitchen. The black cod was a huge disappointment, it's way too salty and we couldn't finish it. The yaki udon, I don't know what kind noodle they use but I'm sure it's not udon noodle because it's a lot thinner than the usual udon. I came here based on one dish and one dish alone. My wife is from WA, and based on her sources, the pumpkin fried rice is the dish to get here. Now let's rewind a bit and start from the beginning. The restaurant has two sides... an older side and a newer side. Apparently they bought out the building next to them and expanded so the front side of the restaurant is the "newer" side and is pretty nice. The parking lot is located in the back of the building by the older part of the restaurant. It's a nice sized parking lot but it was pretty packed when we got there. It's a nice clean place with a sushi bar and tv. The menu is pretty big and includes an assortment of rolls, sashimi, rice plates, and noodles. I ended up ordering the Unagi roll, Spicy tuna roll, Chicken katsu, Pumpkin Fried rice and a Sapparo. Honestly, aside from the Pumpkin fried rice, everything was mediocre at best. The rolls were tiny and not the best. The amount of wasabi provided was a joke. The chicken katsu was pretty small for the price. I'm sure because the restaurant is located in Bellevue, the prices are subject to the higher rate, but seriously $15 for a chicken katsu? I've gotten a lot more for a lot less $$. The sauce was a perfect balance of sweet and salty! I wish I had ordered ten! I took pictures of it and posted it to my facebook, I was so in heaven! The kabocha fried rice (pumpkin fried rice) was, as many reviewers have said, AMAZING. And, as another reviewer said, it did taste like my mom's...and you have no idea how amazing that is! I have NEVER found a place, even in Japan, that did fried rice as good as my mom's!! My girlfriend said the shoyu ramen was as good as any she had had in Japan (I am allergic to wheat, so I couldn't taste it), and the broth really was exquisite. so ginza's fried rice in a pumpkin is great for evoking rural asian feels, but there's a lot of things that are weird about this place. the actual restaurant is split into two parts, and every time we go there, we're led to the other part of the restaurant. one time i went there, we were seated and then reseated. it just seems sort of disorganized. the service is also not great. the first time we were there, the server seemed unsure and sort-of lost. the second time we were there, the server made weird jokes (that i guess were sort of funny, but funny in a "what is happening?" way). the third time we were there (for lunch this time), the servers would not come by our table for the life of me. we were waiting to pay for our food and get back to work quickly (we were on our lunch break), and out of the two servers, one was casually talking to a chef, and the other starting rolling silverware. the ramen was not great, and it was way too much. my boyfriend got the shio ramen i think, and he said it was the worst chasu he'd ever tasted. i tasted his broth, and it was the blandest ramen i've ever tasted besides, like, oriental top ramen. i had the ramen with the pickles, and it was certainly an authentic taste, which i appreciated, but it tasted like someone stir-fried some vegetables and then put them on top of ramen. it was also, again, wayyy too much food. so that was just a bad experience, bc we got there, waited extra long for our food bc nobody would serve us + the food took longer than any ramen place i've been to, and then the food was really not great, and i had to feel bad about leaving so much extra bc i couldn't finish it all, and you can't really take home ramen leftovers. we've also been to a couple japanese barbecue places in east side, and this one's not that great in terms of quality and portion, but it's more expensive?? not worth, save your money for gyu-kaku so i think the only time i'll come back here is if i want that fried rice in the pumpkin or if i'm stuck in bellevue and want japanese bbq but can't get a reservation at ishoni read more

I've been here 2-3 times now and thought it's time to finally leave a review. I visited here with a group of friends, about 7 people. I always enjoyed the pumpkin fried rice here so make sure to order that! I'd recommend at least 3-4 people share 1 order of the fried rice if everyone is also eating other dishes. I ordered a Salmon Don, and at first I was worried if it wasn't going to be enough food, but it is very filling while eating with the fried rice. The size of the salmon pieces were big and there were about 8 pieces I think on top of the sushi rice (loved it as well. Overall, I didn't have much to complain except when it came to payment. Oh my goodness...I swear it took almost an hour to figure out when splitting the cost. They can only take 4 cards and the rest have to pay cash, alright we'll do that. Then we tried to split the dish that we shared and for whatever the reason they couldn't do that. We insisted and made them try...about half an hour later they tell us they can't and another waiter takes over to figure out to split our cost. Not everyone in our group had the fried rice, so we didn't want to put that tab on them, but the waiter came back, gave up and just evenly split the cost amongst everyone....the other friends who didn't even eat the fried rice also gave up and just paid for it since we were all already fed up by then. Lesson learned: just have one person pay for all and venmo, give cash, PayPal, whatever works to pay your portion to the person who paid for all. I forget the exact occasion, but a good friend of mine took me out to dinner here about a year ago. In my search for tasty izakaya food in Seattle, Ginza probably came out highest, at a solid 3.5 stars. We ended up ordering the black cod (my baseline measurement for izakayas), pork belly, ground duck, and pumpkin fried rice. The black cod was nice and light, and certainly enjoyable, but lacked the flavor wow factor I usually look for in this dish. The pork belly was also pretty good, and would have been excellent if it actually had a bit more meat on it, as the extreme fat to meat ratio made it increasingly disgusting to eat with each bite - thinking back on this now, a bowl of rice would probably also have sufficed. The ground duck was just weird, and something I'd suggest passing on. The star of the bunch actually ended up being the pumpkin fried rice though, and this comes highly recommended. read more

I'm still a bit of a Sushi novice... but I've been spreading my wings and trying it out. My biggest fear is eating at a BAD sushi place... but that is what Yelp is for right?? So Ginza is rated pretty good on Yelp and a great friend of mine who is Japanese, actually from Japan, says this is her go to place to eat like she is in Japan. I didn't get too adventurous... I got a philly roll type thing, that had smoked salmon and cream cheese in it, a spicy tuna type roll and some other jalapeno tuna roll. We also started with the tempura. The tempura was the best I've ever had anywhere, and I try it a lot when I am out to teriyaki and the likes. It was very crisp, and not too oily. The tempura fish was excellent. I absolutely LOVED all the rolls, especially the philly one. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. Service was so friendly and quick. We went early, right when they opened on Friday night, and didn't have to wait. By the time we left they were packed. I haven't had great service like this in a long time! It was my first time here and we were taking awhile to choose what we wanted. Multiple waiters came to check in to see if we were ready to order. Our waiter answered all the questions we had and made recommendations. At the end when we asked for our bill, it took a bit longer than usual for him to get it to us, so he gave us complimentary fruits as dessert! And right before we left, he asked if we needed a re-fill for our water before we left. I left the restaurant very impressed with the service! The food tasted great as well. Took my family for Saturday night dinner. Having a reservation helped because it was busy! The service was good and the food good though not spectacular. I appreciated the diversity of the menu because we were able to find meals for even the pickiest of our crew. Definitely will go again soon read more

Service was so-so (granted we were in a private-ish room and they were busy). Fish was fresh but I've had better at various places in Seattle. Not authentic (had things on the menu such as Seattle rolls). Clean and brightly lit; decor reminiscent of a small teriyaki shop. I like Fish. I love well cut fish... and that's the secret for me, for a great sushi; it's a well cut piece of fish. This place knows how to cut a fish right. I have been here many of time, this was me looking for sashimi. I was looking for something that was just the flavor if the sea, as fresh as possible, and as amazing as possible. I think on my plate was just a beautiful selection, as I asked for a variety and I got it. From fresh Tuna, to Salmon, each piece was a melt in your mouth delicious. I think the real draw for me, is the delicious varieties of fish, from the basics of salmon sashimi, to the rolls immense flavor combinations, and the pumpkin fried rice during the holidays, I'm not going to lie, this place is pretty awesome.
