I don't know why I have never been to Ginmiya before. Maybe because I am usually a little skeptical of pan-Asian restaurants? So, we looked up the menu online and were astounded to see "Human Dumplings: on the menu. I know it was a typo but it was damn funny. We ordered them. They were yummy little pork filled dumplings with some kind of brown sauce on top. I also had the scallion pancake, which I absolutely love. It was with the entrees where we ran into trouble, I ordered the Shrimp Tempura dinner. I get this meal frequently in other places. It's pretty standard. I asked our server, because I wanted to know and she responded, "Shrimp." Usually, yes, when you get it as an appetizer, it's just shrimp. As an entree, it's usually a few shrimp and tempura veggies as well. She seemed confused. Lately, I've been getting the same shrimp tempura every where I go. They come frozen, pre-coated. It's a little disappointing. Especially when compared to the veggies, that were clearly just dipped in a batter and fried. Here, I got a couple chopped asparagus, a few pieces of onion, cut into big squares, some sweet potatoes, and three huge chunks of broccoli, which is my least favorite. Ordered take out from here after not having been here in well over 10yrs and it was so good. I got there early and they were so kind and tried to hurry my order even though I didn't ask or expect it. It was a decent sized order and they gave us some extras on the house just because I guess? I've noticed this seems to be a trend with some smaller Asian restaurants in our area they are always giving stuff on the house and it's a nice touch. Let me just start by saying this sushi is 10/10. But I decided to try regular food since I love the sushi so much. I was sadly disappointed I got the House Special General Tso. One first glance I could tell there wasn't enough sauce. Even with the little bit of sauce they have the chicken was soggy. There was also no spice. I do like the place, but almost feel like one star was for the service! :o) so we go in, and the place looks snazzy enough, and they even have really clean (decorative) fish tanks. (that's amazing in and of itself) But the place is a little too empty for me. but the little shopping center, tucked behind Outback steakhouse is kind of... well, empty also. But the place is nice, very clean, nicely decorated. the menu sticks to everything, but doesnt seem to be sticky or dirty. they have those nice clothe disposable napkins... no chopsticks or soy sauce unless you ask. they have those free fried wontons just waiting before you arrive. (I'm always suspicious of those and never partake in them.) the house (japanese) salad was YUMMY! but it left about 1inch of liquid in the salad bowl. that always sucks. but i find that to be the case in many places. Still very yummy! miso soup was awesome! the chicken teriyaki comes w/miso soup... but no steamed rice. two chicken breasts of chicken on a bed of mixed steamed veggies. (thumbs up for the chicken from my companion). I liked the gyoza better at tokyo dinner. and the potstickers werent my favorite... but they werent bad. I did really like the shrimp & broccoli. I dont personally like that they used chicken breast strips in the fried rice, or the use of white onions... but it seems to be a trend in this area. over all i really liked the food, but probably wouldnt come back due to the distance from my house, and I dont like the quiet shopping center feel. the waitress was funny. she had the little accent and didnt understand why we ordered shrimp and broccoli but then asked for no shrimp in the house fried rice (incase my dinner companion wanted some). And she constantly asked if things were okay, and offered soda refills several times. once she asked if we wanted a refill but we said we were good. we asked her to take our plate instead. she said we were okay and took our soda (instead of our plate) and refilled it anyway saying we need more soda. ;o) she was so cute! read more

Chinese food is 3 or 4 stars, Sushi is 2 or 3 at best. They were out if ikura, had frozen (as in still frozen, complete with crunchy ice crystals in it) tamago and pre-packaged frozen spring rolls. Hey, it's in York. A culinary waste land, so was I expecting Nobu? Heck no. That said my 13 year old ate her not-so-spicy tuna and salmon rolls, which were mutually indistinguishable and I had beef (tender and delicious but not much of it) and green beans. Thank goodness I had the instinct to ask for "light on the sauce", which is my standard mantra for Chinese. All that said, lunch for 3 was less than $40 with tax and tip. Order carefully. Skip the spring rolls, General Tso's or anything fried. Do not expect sublime. Edible? Yes. Sublime? No. read more

We stopped in for the lunch special 3 sushi rolls for 10 bucks - not a bad deal, we got soup with it and the fried wontons were enough to fill u up. I like the way the place is set up with a big aquarium with a least a dozen fish -koi and suckers in the entry. They have a bar to sit and watch the rolls being made in the back left corner by the kitchen and have large tables for bigger parties with turntables for family style dining. The prices are good and the rolls are fresh with plenty of wasabi and ginger with the plate. The place has been in business for more than 12 years for a reason. We got tri-colored fortune cookies which had some head scratching fortunes, but so be it. I like the fact you can have either Chinese or Japanese and the B.Y.O.B is a plus too. I mean, I admit it, I'm spoiled. I lived in San Francisco for the last three years, and before that I lived in Los Angeles. The best Asian food in the country, I'd argue. So by local standards, I'd say three-stars about captures it. The setting is fine, the place gets busy. Service is very hit-or-miss depending upon who you get. Today I made a carry out order. After spending $36.00 for a meal, I was shocked to see a charge of $1.00 for ten packs of duck sauce. It is just greed that a restaurant would do such a thing. I guess this is the beginning of a way to try making up for revenue lost during Covid-19. I guess that if I want Chinese food next time I will have to eat at the restaurant. Ginmiya is my go-to sushi spot in York. We often order takeout Wednesday's which offers 30% off Japanese food (Wednesday only.) They also offer 20% off Chinese I on Tuesdays. My only tip for that- especially ordering on a Wednesday is to call in about half an hour before you want to pick up the order. Sometimes it gets super busy, understandably, so it's wise to plan around that. read more

I bought a large rice for 10 dollars and got a small generic Tupperware container that you usually get for a single order. An order of wings was about 8 dollars and although it says 6 it was really 3 wings split. 3 wings for 8 dollars? Madness $40 order for a tupper ware container of rice, 2 wing orders, and 1 order of pork dumplings that barely fed 3 kids. Never again take the extra 2 minute drive to memory lane or others. These guys have the best sushi for the fairly cheap price and have a very large selection of rolls. I can't say what their Chinese is like because I only get sushi/sashimi there. I was very impressed with our last visit to Ginmiya. We've been here many times and never really had a stand out experience good or bad, consistently good food is all I really need to continue frequenting a restaurant and I'd say Ginmiya hits that mark every time. Last night for my husbands birthday we decided on Sushi, off to Ginmiya we went. They have a special currently - any 4 Chef rolls for $42 (I believe it was $42 or around there)... we decided to go with the special and got the Fantastic Roll, The Little Dipper, the Oh My God Roll and the Spicy in Two Roll (regularly these four rolls would have been roughly $52 so we're saving $10 right there). A few minutes after we ordered a young lady brought out a bowl of Edamame, I mentioned to her that we hadn't ordered Edamame but if it wasn't for another table I would certainly eat it, she said that it must have been a misunderstanding and said they were on the house. Oddly enough, I had debated on getting the Edamame but didn't want to over stuff myself. Apparently the Edamame wanted me. :) So by now I'm pretty excited, fairly "cheap" sushi and free Edamame? Cool! Dinner itself was delicious, fresh, colorful, quick, and had great presentation. You MUST try The Big Dipper.... oh my gosh, so good! When the bill came, I included a $5 coupon I had from Clipper Magazine but said to the waitress that I understood if they couldn't use it because the sushi special was already quite a deal. To my surprise, they honored it! Score... another $5 off! Then, the cherry on top.... My husband and I were so stuffed and couldn't eat another bite so we had the remaining sushi packed to go... and of course we left it on the table. :( We got to the car, realized it and turned around to go back in and as we did the manager/owner came out and brought the sushi to us... I've NEVER had that happen before and unfortunately, I forget our leftovers often. It was the perfect touch of customer service to end the night on a high note. Wow! That's all I Casey about this fantastic restaurant. Their food here and perfect along with the service. I've had the Sea Dragon and Little Dipper (their most recent special rolls) here multiple times and I've got to give it to them... It's probably one of the best, if not the best sushi I've had in ages. If you're looking for a good place to settle down and eat a meal at, this is definitely a top tier choice in all of York. We frequent Ginmiya about twice a month. We enjoy the avocado salad & green onion pancake appetizers. Our favorite rolls are the Dragon Roll, the Sky Roll (which is wrapped in pink seaweed!) and the Sweetheart Roll. You can also create your own roll - there's a spot at the bottom of the sushi menu where you just write what you want in your roll! We take our sushi-eating friends here because the people are kind and always smiling and happy. They take good care of us at Ginmiya. Don't be afraid to ask them to modify your order to your liking. IE: no peas or carrots in the fried rice. The restaurant is situated in a strip mall and seems to be the most popular place there. Service is typically expedient. They deliver too! read more

I eat here at least once a week. I'm a veggie sushi kinda gal and the sweet potato roll is my favorite (no eel sauce)! Very surprised when I found out this restaurant was beyond satisfactory. Even the soda was heavenly. The coca cola that I ordered was sweet as if it was served immediately after manufactured. The crisp pork dumplings were unlike any other appetizer from any Asian restaurant i have frequented. The entree, a plentiful bounty of sweet sesame chicken, was delectable beyond my expectations. The service lived up to the scale of satisfactory of the food and drinks and the other food, which my guests ordered, matched in satisfaction as my food as well. These folks are fantastic, and their Sushi and Sashimi is to die for. You can also get a resonably priced Bento Box for lunch. Their BYOB policy is nice too - a bottle of wine, or (tacky - I'm sorry) a 6 pack is a nice way to compliment the food. NEVER AGAIN WILL I GO TO THIS RESTAURANT!!! First time ordering food to go since the new ownership. What a HUGE disappointment. My favorite dish, Crispy Honey Walnut Shrimp was horrible. First, they raised the price to $15.99 for 8 shrimp. Then, they replaced the broccoli with lettuce (I was counting on having the broccoli, so I didn't order another vegetable. The lemon-mayo sauce was disgusting--no flavor whatsoever. I was suppose to be light and tasty, not thick and taste like cornstarch. The shrimp were dry and over-cooked. I can't believe how they ruined a wonderful dish like that. Very, very disappointing. They really do need to send the girl at the front desk to take an ESL class. Her English was so bad, I had to ask to speak to someone else. And, she did not know enough English to understand what I was saying. read more

Ginmiya is a unique restaurant which offers both great Chinese and Japanese food. They take their Sushi seriously and the food is good. I enjoy going to Ginmiya for lunch on Saturday since their lunch priced menu is still available. This is the perfect place for my family. I get the Bento Box E (Miso Soup, Rice, Choice of Appetizer (Shumai Dumpling for me), choice of some Sushi options, and Choice of entree (I choose General Tsao's). Strange mix, but I love it. My wife and daughter are more traditional Chinese food eaters so they share Chicken & Brocolli and a Wonton soup. read more
