Friendly staff and delicious food at an amazing price. Sushi and lo mein are fabulous.

Today I made a carry out order. I called at 2 pm and asked if I could order lunch. The girl told me yes, she took my order and told me it would be ready in 20 minutes, which it was. When I picked it up I was charged dinner prices. When I told the girl I ordered lunch she said I didn't. I couldn't prove what I said so I had to pay the dinner price. Also I ordered General Tso chicken it was the WORST ever and I threw it away. BTW I ordered 2 of those and they both went into the trash. This place is normally my go to for Chinese - I hope this was just a blip - I'll probably give it another try. read more

This place has the best Chinese/Japanese in York! My favorite is the General Tsao dish. I've tried other restaurants but nothing comes close. The service is always good and I've never had a complaint. I eat here almost once a month because I start craving it. read more

We used to go here frequently when I lived in York until we read about the health department violations they had (in an article on inyork - the York papers' website). It seemed strange that they left the bowls with the crispy wonton things and duck sauce just sitting out on the tables - it's on the table when you arrive. And the bathrooms were often filthy. Do your homework before you go here - there are better sushi places in York and MUCH BETTER places to eat in general nearby. read more

My favorite chinese in town (and other towns). Huge portions for a very good price. I am a lo mein/fried rice guy so can't really tell yo uabout the sushi but the wonton soup and my 2 main dishes above are always great with plenty of meat. I like those chip things on the table too. Found this place using Yelp. I had the sushi dinner that was very fresh, my family had an assortment of Chinese dishes which all tasted like they'd been made to order with fresh ingredients. Ginmiya used to be my favorite place in York for both Americanized Chinese grub and sushi. I would say that remains true with the Chinese fare. But I've been horribly disappointed in the sushi during my last few visits. I went here twice when I visited home over the holidays, once with my mom and a friend for Chinese food and once with my special dude for a sushi date. As usual, the Chinese food was great: hot, fresh, with perfectly crisp veggies. The brown sauce they use in their dishes also deserves its own special accolade: in addition to being fantastically delicious, it doesn't make me want to take a five year nap after I scarf my food down. The sushi date, however, was a major disappointment. We ordered the Crazy Mushroom roll and the Hidden Dragon rolls to share, because I'd had both years ago and remembered them being amazing. Additionally, we both ordered a lunch special, which came with 2 or 3 rolls and a side of miso soup. I ordered an avocado roll and sweet potato tempura roll; the dude ordered a cucumber roll, spicy tuna roll, and a roll with conch that I forget the actual name of. The miso soup the specials came with was tasty, but it was largely a bowl of broth with only trace amounts of seaweed and a few tiny diced up bits of tofu. The rolls were the real disappointment, though: sloppily assembled and cut, uneven, with bits of filling poking out. The two special rolls also didn't seem to have heterogeneous fillings: somehow things seemed to have gotten mixed together/muddied in the process of creating the rolls? It was very strange. To top it off, I noticed a few minutes later that my Hidden Dragon roll wasn't a Hidden Dragon roll: it was supposed to have eel, mango, avocado, etc., and what I got had none of these things. I ate it anyway, because whatever they'd given had ingredients we both liked and for all I knew I had accidentally ticked the wrong box when I was ordering. The more simple rolls were better, but still sloppy. Taste-wise, I'd say everything was just ok, if not bland and blah. To put it another way, nothing stood out as being unusually good, but it wasn't completely abysmal, either. I recalled to my dude that I'd been to Ginmiya earlier in the year and made the same observation, thinking that visit had been on an off day. Evidently not. Service has been more consistent over the years than the food, apparently; I've always found the staff to be friendly and attentive. No complaints there. Although when our waitress boxed out leftover sushi, she just kind of randomly piled it in one of those white foam boxes, in layers. I've never seen sushi layered before, and sure enough, when we dug into it later that evening, the rolls had all stuck together and fell apart when we tried to separate them. Next time I'm in York with a Chinese craving, I will definitely still swing by Ginmiya. But I'll be looking elsewhere for sushi. read more

This place has nice sushi, there is no question to that but compared to other sushi places in the area its pricy in comparison. Nice layout and clean little venue tucked in the back of a shopping center. The fish is FRESH but even though the rolls sound interesting they have been known to fall apart on a few occasions. Some people love this place but I tend to head to Masa Japanese to save a few bucks and order nicer rolls. read more

It gets 4 stars based on the location and competition. It's some of the best sushi available, for this area. Don't expect too much variety (no toro, for example) - just the basics. But it's well-prepared. read more

My boyfriend and I come here about once a month, and it has always been one of our favorite sushi restaurants in the area. Tonight however, we had a bad experience. First of all, there were only 4 other families in the restaurant, so it wasn't overly crowded. It took us at least 45 minutes to get our order, and part of it was forgotten. While we waited, rap music that was uncensored played in the background. When our food arrived, I was surprised. The restaurants sushi rolls are usually relatively big, to the point where I have trouble eating two rolls myself, however tonight, they were half their normal size. There were only 4 workers seen in the whole restaurant, and they weren't very responsive to our needs. I was very disappointed with tonight's service and unsure if we will return. read more

Ordered take out. Heard this place was good! I ordered spicy chicken with cashews and lo mein. Their wontons were great but the entrees had no flavor and way over priced!!!! Delivery took more than an hour. I recommend trying another place. read more

Our favorite sushi place, tied with Kissho in York city. Ginmiya is closer and way better than any of the others around. I like nigiri white tuna, hubby gets a different role every time, and we split the app sampler. Always the best sushi around. read more

We love sushi and have ordered from pretty much every place in York, and this place is the best! I love their Tiger Rolls and my husband's favorite is the Oh My God Roll. Sushi is always fresh and presented nicely. If you ask for wontons and sauce, they'll give it to you, although they used to have it on every table without you having to ask. This place was great! It was my first time there and I only stopped by because it was on my way home from school. I tried the cheese crab wontons (crab Rangoon) and the shrimp w/ garlic sauce to sort of "benchmark" the food and I was very satisfied! The shrimp really were jumbo and the sauce was delicious! The crab Rangoon were good but I have had better. Cream cheese is better to have in them than the cheese they used (I think it was cheddar or something). Incredibly fast service consistent with asian restaurants. I ordered carryout but the dining room looked impressive and the sushi bar was visible from the comfortable seating area. The only real disappointment was purely bad luck: I got a burnt fortune cookie :( read more

This is my favorite sushi place in York. The service is very fast and friendly, there is never a line and if you go often enough, as I do, they occasionally make conversation while waiting for take out. The Chinese is great, the sushi is great, everything is fresh and reasonably priced. We sat at the bar a few times and had the sushi chefs give us free rolls to try! Best experience ever. The atmosphere is calm and relaxed and they never make you feel like you're asking too much of them. Generally just a very fun place for everyone. read more

GINMIYA SAVED US LAST NIGHT!!! The kids and I really wanted sushi! Last evening we started at Wild Ginger. We received sodas and waited and waited and waited when I asked Wild Ginger staff where our food was I received an attitude while I saw people who came well after us receive theirs. I finally went up to the front and told him it had been 45 minutes and we still did not have our sushi let alone our meals yet. He asked me if I wanted it to go. I said no thank you. He then acted like he may do something "customer service like" (maybe a coupon for next visit or a gift certificate) NO he proceeded to hand me a bill for $8.48 for our sodas!!! Really???!! We sat there with 3 kids for 45 minutes and you are charging me for our soda! They would not allow me to leave without paying for our sodas!!! They did not care I was upset or leaving!! If you are in the YORK area save your time and mood GO TO GINMIYA!! We were seated with food in front of us within 12-15 minutes! And they were busy!!! Thank you Ginmiya for saving our night!! Let me preface my poor rating by saying that we actually love their food on the whole, and rating them so poorly feels like a shame. However, their poor service has taken us to the brink of no more. It started off with a take out order where the rice was left out. Not only did we have to drive the whole way back, but they showed not an ounce of remorse and in fact they argued with us about it. Note taken. We will ALWAYS check our order before leaving. The next time we checked our order, but clearly not close enough [we didn't open all of the containers just counted them] as it was the wrong thing all together. Again, zero remorse or apology. Sure enough, nearly every time we've gotten take out there was a discrepancy, but we managed to fix it before leaving and we continued to purchase from them because we loved their food. Most recently we discovered their online ordering system and thought this would be the end to all of our issues. Our first time using it we arrived to no food. Apparently their stove wasn't working, but they didn't bother to notify us even though ordering online requires two forms of contact. We took it as a fluke. The second time there was no room to put our coupon code in. Instead we ordered it in person only to find out that the online prices are cheaper then in the restaurant. Even with a $3. off a $20 purchase, we came out spending more in house then if we had just ordered at home with no coupon. Not to mention, we ordered 2 egg rolls [$1.60 online and apparently $2.00 in house], which the receipt clearly stated, only to get 2 spring rolls instead. You would think that more then two years with constant messed orders that we would give up, but we decided on one last go. Ordering and paying online to get the lesser prices and clicking the pay cash option so we could still have the option of using our coupon. Once again, no remorse, no apology and even more eyebrow raising questions. This time our egg rolls were $1.60 each and actually correct according to the website prices, however our main dish was $1 more then what our e-recipt showed. THEY CAN JUST CHANGE LISTED PRICES TO WHATEVER THEY WANT WHENEVER THEY WANT??? No backing down, they refused to charge us at the prices clearly listed on our e-receipt and their website. Tired of having to check and triple check our orders. Tired of being over charged for their mistakes not ours. Tired of not only having to pay but work so hard to get our meal. Tired of not an ounce of apology or remorse for the mistakes. We have officially washed our hands of this establishment. read more

Been going here for many years (since moving to the area in 2001), and have always enjoyed this restaurant. They offer traditional Chinese entrees, along with some Japanese options, and of course, a full array of Sushi. It works well for us, as I am a Sushi fan, but my wife is not, so she has many other options for choices. We've had pretty much everything on their menu, and have not been disappointed. The food has usually been very good, and pretty consistent. The service has usually been very good, taking care of us and refilling glasses, etc... Food seems to be prepared well, and in a reasonable time. Never a long, unexpected wait for the meal to come out. It seems like a clean establishment, with basic decorating that works fine. This is a good restaurant with very good food, which I'll come back for many times over. I am noticing some other recent reviews that claim there are new owners. Hopefully, if that is the case, the new owners will be interested in keeping the customers happy with good food, well prepared, at a reasonable price, which has been Ginmiya's successful strategy for many years. read more

We've eaten here several times and the sushi rolls are always fresh and flavorful. I recently called in for a pick up order of sushi and was promptly given one of their English speaking employees. Upon picking up the order, we were pleasantly surprised by the nice arrangement of the rolls and sashimi we had ordered and they made sure to include plenty of soy sauce, wasabi and ginger. So, this place is a safe bet for both eat in and take out, at least as far as their sushi goes. read more

But the experience went bad when I was brought food that wasn't mine made them aware of it and then was told I had to pay for it by the girl who hardly spoke English an all she could say was you pay your fault smh. Every time we order, it gets worse and worse. The service in the dining room is lacking, the people who take orders are not clear, online ordering is a joke, and the food is now marginal. Even with online ordering, they forget things or completely mess up the order. I called to change the time of pickup to a half hour earlier than the form said. The directions clearly stated that I could call to modify or change the order, so I did. The person on the phone took my name and said she would take care of it. They didn't even get my order until a half hour before the originally scheduled pickup time so we ended up waiting for 30 minutes anyway. I asked why the person on the phone did not tell me that changing the time of pick up would not be possible. She said because they really don't know the system. Unacceptable to me especially when they are no longer the only game in town. read more

I have been to Ginmiya three times in the past two months and each time I've been rushed out of there the moment we eat our last piece of sushi. Each time, the waitresses clear our plate before we can say anything and hand us the check. Today, it was the most rushed to date. Thirty seconds after we were handed the check, we were asked if they can take it. I said "no we are talking" and she walked away. Another thirty seconds later, she asked again. Feeling rushed and frustrated, I paid. Because of feeling rushed, I forgot to order the to go sushi I had planned on. They were not busy so that wasn't the reason for the rush, I'm assuming they think it's good customer service. The food is ok but I will not go back there anymore because of this. There are plenty more places to choose from in the area. I expressed politely I wasn't ready but apparently they're not listening. Hopefully they read this and make adjustments. read more
