I like their late hours and the restaurant itself is big. Easy parking. I believe they have nice affordable lunch specials as well. The sushi itself was relatively affordable and not bad. Rice is done well but a bit more rice than I would like in the rolls. Could be more generous with the amount of filling and fish but the flavors were on point. Overall, liked the place but can't say it's super good sushi either. Miso soup was okay, but their hot tea was bad (it was super light in flavor and the hot water tasted a little off). One of my favorite sushi places in York. The service is quick, the food is delicious, and their veggie fried rice is amazing! It has a traditional sushi restaurant vibe inside but has a nice bar area as well. Bathrooms here are super clean which is a good bonus and I have never had a bad experience here and have been going for years. read more

For reasons unknown we never went to Masa before, even though it's directly across from where my in-laws lived for forever. On Saturday afternoon my husband and I were feeling like sushi and decided to give Masa a try. We feel so dumb. It was SO GOOD. It looks like an apartment building from the outside but inside it's beautifully but simply decorated in dark colors. It was spotlessly clean with no discernible scent. (If a sushi place smells like fish you should leave immediately!) We were seated at a table in the dining room at about 4 pm, so a little early for a Saturday. While we ate the room filled up. Our server was attentive with our beverages and taking care of us. We started with pork gyoza. Six came in the order and they were a little smaller than I've had in other places but moist, tasty and perfectly browned. My husband and I each ordered 2 specialty rolls. We had the Mountain Roll, the Hollywood Roll, Mr Crab Roll and the Sea King roll. They were all delicious and we really overate. So full. No regrets. One thing to mention, all of these rolls were large but the Mountain Roll especially so. It was just a little bit too much to put in my mouth all at once. I recommend Masa to anyone looking for sushi or Japanese food. It's a great location for a date. read more

Masa is always great and our go to for sushi and hibachi in the York area. This evening we ordered online for delivery and realized when the Door Dash driver left that our sushi was missing. I contacted Door Dash and did not get a response. When I called Masa they were very apologetic and willing to make it again and even offered to deliver. Instead, I picked it up and when I got home I realized they added an appetizer, seaweed salad, and a dessert, which was very kind. The sushi is large and very tasty. This is a family favorite. The place was closed except for takeout during the worst of the Covid pandemic, and this was our first visit back inside. We found the noodles and fried rice a bit on the bland side but filled with nice vegetables and even some fruit. I have no reservations in recommending this restaurant. read more

We wanted to go somewhere different tonight for sushi and remembered stopping here for soup a few years ago. I wish were came back sooner! We ordered a sashimi bento box. It came with a salad with ginger dressing, the salad was so cold, fresh and crisp , the dressing was perfect. My fish was so cold and tasted amazing! We also ordered some rolls 3/$30, came with salad. We had the Masa, coconut shrimp and Flim Flam rolls. All were amazing but the Flim Flam was my favorite. We have previously ordered via food delivery service and had been pleased but this was our first visit to dine in. We ordered 4 rolls to share. Upon pouring soy sauce in the dish, I noticed a foreign object. It was a dead fly. We told the waitress, who apologized and replaced the soy sauce bottle. The one roll had a friend tempura outside. I'm a REGULAR here and I live for their sushi. You won't find better sushi in the area for the price. The place is always clean, and there's pretty frequently a wait to get seated, but it's worth the time. The chef's specials are a bargain and will not disappoint. To with an appetite and waste your energy on the fried wontons they bring you as an appetizer - I promise you'll want to save room for their rolls. I frequently do fad diets (of course) and they can accommodate changes to the rolls, including being able to make them with brown rice (though they aren't as good) for a price. This place has a little bar area in the front and, though I never go for the drinks, they do a decent job with their cocktails and are reasonable in pricing. If you haven't already, you need to go here. It's in a weird location, but once you find it, you'll keep going back. read more

I am so so happy to have found Masa Bistro! It looks very inconspicuous, I drove passed it twice! They have so many sushi rolls to choose from. Literally every sushi roll I got was amazing. Masa...what can I say? - This is a solid Sushi place. York can be a difficult place for food diversity - but that is changing. First off, this is York Pa - not New York - or Philadelphia. The food offered here is good for York - not what you would come to expect in a major metropolitan area. The menu is large - too large, it is cumbersome and hard to understand, menu items are all over the place. If you are fussy or uncertain of items, it may take a visit or two before you can grasp everything on the menu - it might be helpful to look it over in advance, you can find it on their Facebook page. There is a bar - they make decent drinks, not awesome drinks - but decent cocktails. They have a decent selection of Sake as well - bottled beer only. I am hard pressed to think of nary a single sushi bar in the entire Harrisburg metro area that serves alcohol; York has 2 within a mile of each other - go figure. Masa has a huge assortment of cooked and raw rolls and sushi of every shape and form. They have teriyaki, hibachi, soba, ramen - udon, bento and more! Me - I typically enjoy sushi nigari...and preferably sashimi. Just the fish. The quality here seems very good - the fish portions are very large...very large, I can barely fit one piece of sashimi in my mouth they are so huge - the sushi nigari is equally as large! I take my girlfriend and her kids here and they are really new to the experience - they seem to like it, we keep coming back. You will find rolls with a lot of asparagus, cucumber, mango, avocado with lots of other interesting ingredients - mostly the sushi rolls here are Americanized though. Personally, I would like to see something more spicy with new and special rolls and creations that they innovate and change periodically - but that's just me. My wife and I chose to go to Masa for our Valentine's day meal-we had been here before and had an enjoyable time with friends. The place was not crowded and we were seated immediately. the ambience is relaxed and fits the part of your local sushi place. The menu was pretty varied and we ordered an appetizer of Pork Gyoza which was great with a tangy dipping sauce. We ordered 5 rolls - The tropical eel, White satin, cheesy salmon, shaky dog and spider roll. the rolls looked great when they were served and didn't fail to impress with the flavor either. I think we cleaned that plate off faster than any other sushi meal. I think Masa isn't flashy and the service is good without being obtrusive so you don't notice it as much, but I would go back anytime- very reasonable and good variety especially if you order from the 'Funky Chef' page. read more

Normally I would give this place 3 stars but today they earned 1. I went with a friend that is gluten free and she got her meal gf. They messed up and gave me mine gf too. When I said this isn't right, rather than them remake the food, the waitress gave me the 3 missing pieces and said here you go. Which is like serving someone a chocolate cake sectioned out by ingredient..eggs, milk, flour and chocolate. We were looking for Asian cuisine to celebrate Lunar New Year today (I'm Korean, but I spent the past week sick, so I didn't get around to preparing the huge feast I wanted to prepare). Masa Bistro did not disappoint. We loved that there was a kids' menu with a mixture of tried and true items that kids love (i.e. chicken nuggets) along with gyoza and rice. My husband ordered the vegetable tempura and chicken katsu, and I ordered the shrimp tempura dinner, and everything was so good. Everything was clean; the tables and the chairs weren't sticky, which seems to be common in this area for some reason. We will definitely be coming back! read more

Masa is a great palce to go for delicious Japanese food. They are moderately priced with huge portions. I recommend the TNT Roll and a bowl of Spicy Vegetable Soup. The staff is very friendly and the establishment appears very clean. Masa allows patrons to BYOB which is very nice. This is definitely a small restaurant that is popular, so there may not always be seating but it is worth the wait. read more

I wanted to drive to my favorite place in a snowstorm to discover a sign on the door saying they are closed. i called before I went with no answer and figured they were busy. they could have at least had a voice message saying that they were closed before i risked my life to go. they also live upstairs so it's not like they had to drive. the rice is very good though. read more

I am so happy to have found this place. Living in the west end of York, finding a really good place to eat (read: NOT a chain restaurant) is like finding the next headliner for the Met on Star Search. But thanks to the wonderful chefs at Masa, I no longer feel like I am living in a gastronomic wasteland. George and I decided to treat ourselves to a meal out, but we had to be in close proximity to the gym, since that was our next stop. Another important consideration, since we were shortly going to be voluntarily engaged in masochistic exercises (otherwise known as "working out"), was the type and volume of food we would consume. If you know anything about the "cuisine" of York County, you know it's anything but light and delicate. So what to do? Go Asian! Masa is located in an unprepossessing brick building, sharing space with a mortgage company. (Lucky them, right next door!) Upon entering, the glare of the sun and noise of Route 30 are erased; the ambiance is cool, calming, and the perfect prelude to an artful repast. My only complaint, atmosphere-wise, is their choice of music - some generic, Kenny G-type "music" grated on me throughout our meal. I would have appreciated either some soft classical music or something even more appropriate, like Japanese music! This accounts for the 4 starts instead of 5. Strictly rating the food, I give Masa 5 stars. Their menu is more extensive and creative than the other sushi restaurants in the area. I started out with a shredded seaweed and crab salad with creamy wasabi dressing, which thankfully, was drizzled and delicate. One thing I can't stand is salad that's drowning in dressing. George had the house salad, which had a generous helping of ginger in the dressing. We then split an appetizer of shrimp shumai. These dumplings were encased in perfectly pleated pillows of a delicate dough, and were moist, succulent and, how do I put this... just plain damn good. We each then got a roll. I can't remember the name of what George got but I had something called "Tropical Inferno" (see previous comment about "creative"). Eight pieces of jade green rolls were topped with the most dazzlingly red, tiny roe and were sitting on a lacy design of spicy mayonaisse to make an aesthetically beautiful palette on the plate. Ah, heaven. The delicacy of the salmon! The smooth seduction of avocado! The delicate pop of ruby roe! Each mouthful brought me to another plane of culinary ecstasy. Unhappily, our obligation to continue on to the gym returned me - reluctantly - to reality. (Not to mention that I couldn't indulge in an order of ginger ice cream.) The waiter brought us the bill, which only came to $35. Cheap, for a little slice of paradise. Went with someone from York on Yelp recommendations mainly because she writes great reviews and glad I did. Excellent place. Disappointed that they don't serve booze, but they allow BYOB. So bring a nice Pinot Noir or favorite Sake and have at it. I had the biggest helping of seaweed salad that anyplace ever served, followed by a kimchi based spicy vegetable soup. Not overly spicy, and very flavorful with good amounts of tofu, mushrooms, cabbage, and other veggies. Their sashimi/sushi combo is great. Each raw piece of fish had it's own texture and flavor profile and seemed very fresh. For the non-raw fish/fearful of sushi eaters out there, fear not, they have plenty of great looking bento type boxes and noodle and rice dishes. Something for everyone. i like this place. it's kind of tucked away in an odd, inconspicious location. matter of fact, it looks like it was quickly converted (based on the outside) from a bank! it has a nice little interior that makes the place feel cozy. a few oversized booths give for an extra feeling of privacy. the place is a little on the pricey side. the food was very delicious, fresh and flavorful. the tempura was was crispy with a hint of sweetness. the shrimp was very prominent... didnt skimp at all. the gyoza was nice and delicate in texture with a great flavor! a little too much garlic for me in the dipping sauce, but such a minor point. and the dessert... it looked amazing and was just a wonderful end to the meal. i think this is a great place to retreat from the big crowds. could definitely see myself dining here if i had to go it alone. overall i think it's a nice hidden gem. probably doesnt get as much action because of its location, but good food. a nice dining establishment. read more

From a Sushi Addict that lives in the holy grail sushi of SoCal...I love Masa. Great selection and fresh fish,,,, the sashimi tuna was very solid. The oolong tea drink was a refreshing change and the presentation was very great. Every time i come to York, PA I get my sushi fix at Masa. Masa is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in York. The renovations are beautiful, and the new alcohol menu was a great addition! Masa has awesome sushi for a great price. I usually order the three roll special with seaweed salad and miso soup. You can't go wrong for only $12!! The menu is lengthy and offers many different, fun rolls and a la carte items to try. The wait staff is always friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. They make you feel at home. My friends and I love to come for lunch or dinner and often find ourselves spending an hour or two trying different dishes and just enjoying our time together.
