    Chocolate cup for Ginjinha Shot
    Adina S.

It was my last day in Lisbon and I was on a mission to try one of their famous ginjinha shots. I didn't have any cash left and was looking for a place that would take card (it was pretty hard to find a place that didn't have a credit card minimum). Finally I stumbled upon this spot. The woman working there was super friendly. She even took a picture of me drinking my shot! The drink was pretty strong, but I must say the dark chocolate cup was a nice compliment to the cherry flavor. Once I downed my shot, the employee poured me another one. Worthwhile for the experience, but not sure I would want to drink too many of those because I'm generally not a huge cherry fan.

Stopped by for a shot of ginginha. Great place to come for a shot. Small whole in the wall conveniently located in Lisboa.

Back in my home country sour cherry liqueur is special treat the elderly ladies keep in their cabinets and offer to guests on special occasions. For my surprise the ginjinha turned out to be something incorporated in the life style of Lisbon. The ginjinha bars were targeted immediately while researching the city as something we must try. We had the famous ginja for the first time at the little stand of Ginjinha do Carmo at the Commercial Square. They don't offer the liqueur with the sour cherry fruit in it, instead you can have the ginja in tiny chocolate cups, two pours of ginja and you can eat your chocolate. Later we visited the tiny bar for more of the yummy sour cherry treat. I needed a second wind this day and had their espresso that was quite good too. The liqueur of Ginjinha do Carmo is definitely one of the most delicious ones we tried in Lisbon and surroundings

Quick fun pit stop for a cherry shot. Very strong! But the chocolate shot was dank. Line moves pretty fast if there are people outside.

My only wish is that these is more of a way to help navigate the canned selection. I know a lot about beer but it's hard to decide on these because there isn't much in the way of write ups, just suggestions from whomever is there working or drinking. I normally stick with the tap, in general. I suggest taking the drinks out by the park on nice days. I really like this little area.

This place has quite a nice selection of beer, for a small store. Mostly European, and I was excited to see all the BrewDog from Scotland and Mikkeller from Denmark. Also surprised to see many Rogue Ale's beers, even on draft as well. There is a shelf for Portuguese craft, some from Lisbon. The girl working there, Ann Marie, is the best. She's really knowledgeable about the beer. When I asked her about a label, she'd tell me - their best beer is XXX, which I don't have right now, but of the two I have, this one is better. She is honest about her opinion - they waited six month to get this beer, she was really excited to try it but felt rather let down. She also enjoys giving trivia - the label Electric Nurse from Denmark comes from the occupations of the founders - one is an electrician and the other a nurse. She lets me sample the draft before deciding which one I want. Last but not least, she is diligent with regular sampling of the beer to ensure quality. ; ) The place has a relaxed vibe, with some games and books for entertainment. We just sat at the bar and chatted with locals, about beer, food, and everything. A really lovely way to spend an afternoon of our vacation, rather than hurrying around like crazy tourists. If you prefer, Praça Das Flores is just across the street, a park where you can totally enjoy a little corner of nature. Beers are not cheap here. The bottles costs over €3 each, and drafts mostly €4-6. Whereas a Sagres usually costs me €2 or so. However, if you don't feel it's worth paying extra to support craft and quality beer, then by all means stay with your Super Bock.

The shops are set all the way in behind the tables and umbrellas, so unless you really walk up to it, you may pass by this place many times and not find it. I'm thrilled that with each visit to Portugal the local beer scene is getting more vibrant. While there are more micro-breweries, it's hard for a traveler to visit, as it's a challenge to find out accurate info about their opening hours - if they are open to public - and then trying to fit the visits into your schedule. You also need to pray that they open as scheduled. Now, there is Beer Station, which specializes in local crafts, is right smack in the middle of the tourist area, is open for long hours, and has very affordable prices. So you tourists can just sit back, relax, and have a jolly good time. Bottles are around €4, and for draft, you can get 20cl for €3 or 40cl for €5. A flight of three is only €5, very affordable (wish I have $5 flights back home!!) and a great way to go for trying different beers. And don't forget to go inside and check out their bottles selection in the fridge, and get some for souvenirs. The staff will be more than happy to help with your selection and tell you more about the Portuguese craft beer scene!

I have Celiac disease and so navigating food when traveling is always an experience for me and I immediately tagged this place as one we would return to. Sadly, when we went and I said I needed to be gluten-free and asked if they had a separate menu when I only saw three items the server said "We really don't have a lot." ...then why is it advertised in huge letters on the sign outside? Felt strange. The service was exceptional of course - none of this at all is a condemnation of the employees - they were all great and attentive and helpful... I just think the advertising of the menu and branding needs... some rework? The check arrived with major sticker shock for fries, wings, and sangria (that was way way too sweet). We spend a good amount of our disposable income on dining out, with intent, and the value ratio for this one was... off. Environment? Very chill neighborhood "burger bar" type place. There are some couches and lots of art on the walls for purchase and pretty extensive beer list - larger than I had seen at any other restaurant in Alfama and beyond.

Service was quick and friendly and we ordered a couple of local draft beers and the Piri Piri wings and a prawn sandwich. Prawn sandwich was ok, not a lot of flavor but came with some sweet potato chips and a nice arugula salad. Wings were fantastic, fell off the bone, grilled perfectly with just a bit of heat. Came with a sweet chili sauce for dipping. Beers were decent. Probably would have given it 5 stars but it was so loud and cold that we had a hard time enjoying the atmosphere and good food.

So, the *vibe* of this place, I'd call... packed and frenetic. Inside, it's cramped, load and chaotic, which I personally liked less (outside seemed calmer, other than the fact that it kept raining off and on.) It wasn't immediately clear how to get a seat (answer: you can just take one if you see one that's free). It was unclear initially, too, how you were supposed to order (a waiter will see you eventually, maybe, but you can also just give your order to the bar). Was also unclear initially how I was supposed to pay when I was done (see above.) But at least there *were* seats and an inside, unlike at As Bifanas the day before, where it was also raining... For all of that, though, I'd 100% come back here again if I were in Lisbon, assuming the quality hadn't gone down or the prices way up, of course. As of now about 3 months ago, it was a great sandwich (I thought a little better than the other bifana I had the day earlier, though they were both great.) Great bread, great meat, great cheese, and also great condiments, which, like at As Bifanas, were self-serve, so you could put a whole bunch on if you wanted, which you do. I also had a bowl of an extremely good vegetable soup with it, and paired it with another local drink I finally got the chance to try here, a weird combo that works surprisingly well, beer mixed with vermouth. All for 7.50 euros. Just wish I'd been hungrier! I still wouldn't wait in line for an hour, though. Very things I would do that for. Good thing I only had to wait like 5 minutes. :p
