My husband got food poisoning after eating here during our first trip to Italy; he was in bed for a full day after dinner at this place. His Negroni was way over-bitter and pasta dish he ordered smelled fishy (but was not a fish dish). Fun beautiful place for a change of pace in Rome. I had bacon and eggs for only the 2nd time in Europe over 16 days and this was the best! Super thin bacon cooked into sunny side up eggs that were light and crispy. Pancakes, cappuccinos and a smoothie were all hits with our group. Nice friendly service too. Outside the restaurant was very plain but inside it was beautiful, cool and relaxing. We each had a fruit smoothie, we shared a salad which was very large and had the hamburger and the roast pork sandwich. It was all delicious!! Lovely market cafe-style restaurant from Turin, showing a modern take on Italian cuisine. The salads are enormous and big enough for two to share - definitely pay the extra one euro to top with freshly sliced prosciutto or bresaola. Tap water is complimentary and includes both still and sparkling. The sandwiches are also quite good, all made with baguettes. Servers are dressed in pork pie hats and aprons to complement the atmosphere, but are a bit more removed. Had to flag down for more water and to take the order a few times. We were referred to Ginger by a local. The food was really, really great - locally sourced, reasonably priced, and AMAZING! They also have great drinks and smoothies. Such a great break from all of the pasta, pasta, and more pasta you find in Rome, and a little off the beaten path so it isn't quite so "touristy." But my girlfriend ordered a salad with cold cut beef which was, by any measure, dry gristle - like they'd accidentally served slices of Ghandi's sandal on a bed of autumn leaves. She couldn't even eat half of it. Half an hour passed before our waitress came to clear our plates, but she agreed that the remaining salad looked bad and she herself wouldn't pay 13 euros for it. We asked if they'd mind taking it off our bill. Then the manager appeared. He explained that this cut of desert shoe had been cooked for 8 hours, and it wasn't inedible, that's how it is supposed be. And that'll be 13 euros. We tried again. Perhaps the dehydrated flip flop is normally delicious and this time we'd just been given an unusually stringy bit, like the shoelaces. But all they offered were insulting descriptions of how long it had been cooked for and how wrong we were, as they held the card machine over us. At one point our waitress appeared again, having had a complete change of heart, to say that it didn't look that bad and we had finished most of it, which we hadn't. So now we were being called liars, too. After 5 minutes of arguing, we'd had enough and so had the manager. He offered us a free dessert, and we reluctantly paid 13 euros for a tasteless salad that my girlfriend couldn't even chew. 10-15 minutes later the free dessert still hadn't materialised, so we left with a very bad taste in our mouths. My wife and I are on our honeymoon and decided to try something a little different for our final night in Rome. Choosing Ginger turned out to be a painful choice. First of all, service was a bit slow. We waited longer than 5 minutes to be asked for our orders. This is fine as the Friday night crowd was humming. That said, we never got water that we ordered, and a steady stream of waiters passed by without eye contact. Now the food. My wife and I ordered the tuna tartare, carbonara and rigatone with bacon, etc. The tartare was below average with overpowering mint and salt. I understand that the pasta dishes are going to skew salty but I felt like we consumed a salt mine with some pasta and bacon added. Normally I dont skewer restaurants on Yelp because I try to be very understanding. But, although our service was pleasant, we watched several tables of tourists get served much later and less frequently than those populated by Italian speaking locals. Consider carefully when spending your hard earned vacation euros, dollars and pesos at Ginger. On the plus side, it is pretty inside. read more

My sandwich (cooked ham with avocado spread) was good, but my wife's salad (mixed greens and chicken but mainly mixed greens) was a big yawn. My friend and I went to this restaurant looking for a fresh, light, and refreshing meal. It took forever before one of the waitstaff finally came to take our order. Then it took forever for them to bring the food we ordered. Then it took forever to bring my drink. I actually had to get up from the table to go find someone to ask again for my drink, and then they took even longer to bring it to me (I was almost finished eating by the time it arrived). When we finished we asked for the bill, waited and waited, and asked again, and waited and waited, and they never brought us the bill. So we finally went to the cashier to pay but we didn't have a bill to pay her from. We were paying separately and I went first. I told her what I had ordered, and she got very snippy because I didn't have a bill. When my friend went to pay, the cashier was actually more than snippy, actually scolding my friend for not having the bill to pay her from. This would not have surprised us so much in France (the French waitstaff was SO much nicer when we were in France). So, the food at this place seemed fresh, and there was a lot of it, and it tasted okay (not great though), and the place was cute, but the service was terrible! Would I ever go back? This place is truly disappointing. Came here in hopes of some good Italian food, left with an empty stomach and disgusted face. As a start, I was happy to see some vegetarian and vegan options. I continued to see multiple "organic" options, and several, several menu items. What got me really appalled was the "organic walnuts", something that clearly doesn't exist, but tea. The several menu items also left me appalled as it is well known that a restaurant with "great quality" food does not have 30+ menu items. Onto the food, we ordered two pasta dishes. The "pesto" ravioli was made with dried pesto, which clearly isn't fresh. Further, it was DRENCHED in that fake pesto sauce to hide the fact that it was lukewarm, store bought ravioli. The other pasta dish tasted like Kraft mac and cheese. The service was very slow yet they were still quick to take our money. Clearly not authentic, and when in Rome, I would advise to eat at the hundreds of other actually authentic restaurants nearby. read more
